Cupressus forests (Acero-Cupression; Habitat code 9290): A New EU Habitat in Italy?
Full text linkIn the European Union, the habitat type 9290 “Cupressus forests (Acero-Cupression)” is reported in more than 20 Natura 2000 sites of Greece and Cyprus. Scientific literature on the habitat 9290 is quite limited and the knowledge on its distribution needs more in-depth analyses and detailed studies. The Nature Reserve “Bosco di S. Agnese” (Siena, central Italy) hosts a large Cupressus sempervirens old-established forest (271 ha) originating from an ancient plantation (dated back to the Etruscan-ancient Roman times). Cupressus sempervirens seems to have found a precise ecological niche thus forming communities where the species is dominant. The aim of this study is to assess whether Cupressus sempervirens forest of Sant’Agnese can be considered as the first example of habitat 9290 in Italy. We compared it with the Cupressus sempervirens forests of the eastern Mediterranean area attributed to the habitat 9290. In June 2022, we collected original vegetation data in our study area. Moreover, additional data from the literature were retrieved for the eastern Mediterranean. A dataset of 217 vegetation relevés from Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus was obtained. Multivariate analyses (modified TWINSPAN and NMDS ordination) highlighted how the Cupressus sempervirens forest in S. Agnese has remarkable floristic affinities with the ones from Crete and other Aegean islands. Italian and Greek Cupressus sempervirens forests were distinguished in species composition from those in Turkey and Cyprus due to the presence of several species with a western Mediterranean distribution, such as Arbutus unedo, Pistacia lentiscus, and Quercus ilex, and to the absence (in Italy) or poorness (in Crete) of many eastern species, e.g., Acer sempervirens. These preliminary results, as well as the naturalness of the understorey and the potential distribution of habitat 9290 that includes the western Mediterranean basin, support the hypothesis that the EU habitat 9290 is also present in Sant’Agnese Nature Reserve and in Italy. Our study also showed that more extensive and in-depth studies on the typical species and on the distribution of the habitat 9290 in Europe are needed
Aktivitas Antibakteri Ekstrak Etanol Buah Adas (Foeniculum vulgare Mill) Terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis, Shigella sonnei ATCC 9290, Dan Citrobacter diversus
Full text linkTanaman adas merupakan salah satu tanaman yang dapat digunakan sebagai obat. Buah adas dapat digunakan sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol buah adas (Foeniculum
vulgare Mill.) yang telah disimpan selama 1 tahun terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis, Shigella sonnei ATCC 9290, dan Citrobacter diversus. Uji aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi Kirby Bauer. Ekstrak etanol buah adas diujikan pada bakteri dengan seri konsentrasi ekstrak 0,5 mg, 1 mg, 2 mg, dan 3 mg per disc untuk bakteri Citrobacter diversus. Sedangkan uji aktivitas antibakteri terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis dan Shigella
sonnei ATCC 9290 menggunakan seri konsentrasi ekstrak 5 mg, 6 mg, 7 mg, dan 8 mg per disc. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol buah adas mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Citrobacter diversus dengan zona hambat paling besar pada konsentrasi ekstrak 1 mg per disc dengan diameter zona hambat ratarata sebesar 16 mm. Ekstrak etanol buah adas tidak mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis dan Shigella sonnei ATCC 9290
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Para compreender o comportamento mecânico do tecido e as dificuldades associadas, realizou-se um conjunto de ensaios experimentais, onde quatro destes ensaios são apresentados e seus resultados discutidos. Do ponto de vista numérico, estudou-se um modelo de comportamento mecânico deduzido a partir de hipóteses sobre leis da termodinâmica, que fornece uma relação constitutiva baseada em uma estrutura variacional com variáveis internas. Este modelo é apresentado em detalhes com exemplos numéricos que demonstram sua capacidade de representação mecânica. Por fim, os dados experimentais foram então utilizados para um procedimento de identificação de parâmetros do modelo estudado, onde este apresentou uma excelente correlação com os dados experimentais obtidos.Abstract : The study of the mechanical behaviour of tendons presents several numerica land experimental difficulties. To better understand the mechanical behaviour of the tissue and its associated difficulties, a set of experimental tests was executed, Four of these tests are presented and its results discussed.From the numerical point of view, a mechanical behaviour model deduced from hypothesis about thermodynamics laws was studied, it gives a constitutive relationship based on a variational structure with internal variables. This model is presented in detail with numerical examples that show its mechanical representation capacity. Finally, the experimental data were the nused in a parameter identification procedure using the studied model which showed excellent correlation with the experimental data
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Full text linkWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
