Republic Act 9003: It\u27s Implementation Impact to the Community

    No full text
This study aimed to determine the impact of implementation to the community of Republic Act 9003. An experimental research design was utilized using the 24 barangay officials as subjects where the total population was taken. A researcher-made questionnaire was used in gathering the data needed. It was found out that the residents had a low level of practice of RA 9003 as to source reduction, to a high level as to segregation and to a moderate level as to processing before the conduct of the study.; after the conduct of the study, the residents had improved level of practice of RA 9003 whereas to source reduction and processing, were to high level and for segregation to a very high level; before the conduct of the study, the impact of the implementation of RA 9003 on processing was to a great extent; the impact of the implementation of RA 9003 on processing after the conduct of the study was to a very great extent; there is a significant difference in the level of practice of the residents in the barangay of RA 9003 on source reduction, segregation, and processing before and after the conduct of the study; and there is a significant difference in the extent of the implementation of RA 9003 on processing before and after the conduct of the study.

The thesis ―Barangay 681: A Partner in the Implementation of R.A. 9003‖ was written by Haidee C. Lee in partial compliance for the fulfillment of the MBA-JD program of DLSU-FEU Institute of Law. It determined the extent to which Republic Act 9003, specifically the provisions on waste segregation, recycling and composting, is being implemented by the households in Barangay 681. The study was focused on households within Barangay 681 only. A specially drafted survey form was used for this study. The researcher utilized the nonexperimental non-probability method through purposive sampling. The researcher was able to persuade 30 households to participate in the study. The researcher was able to determine that only 37% of the participating households practices waste segregation. This shows that there is low compliance rate in the barangay. The study was also able to determine the reasons why R.A. 9003 is not being implemented by the participating households, namely: non-enforcement by the proper barangay officials of the law, inconvenience and requires additional costs. The researcher submitted the following recommendations: Barangay Level Constitute the Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee Conduct intensive information campaigns Assign a solid waste manager for each block Conduct a solid waste characterization study Impose solid waste management fees Enact a barangay ordinance National Level Provide adequate and proper incentives to compliant LGUs Increase the penalties provided under RA 9003 Provide a higher penalty for local government officials as well as officials in government agencies charged with the implementation and enforcement of R.A. 9003

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Factors associated with the compliance to ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003) of inland resort establishments in the Province of Iloilo: Inputs to policy enhancement

Abstract onlyThis is a correlational study that determined the factors associated with the compliance to the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 200 (RA 9003) of the inland resort establishments in the province of Iloilo. The data was collected using survey questionnaire from 118 managers and employees in all 23 inland resorts operating in the province. Findings show that the inland resorts in the province of Iloilo are mostly micro enterprises with 1 to 9 employees and have in in business for an average of 2 years. Most of them are without DOT accreditation. Those with DOT accreditation, mostly are Class AA accreditation and few have Class AAA and have the availability of resources for solid waste management as mandated by local law. The managers and employees are fully are of RA 9003, almost always participate in public programs and activities related to the implementation of RA 9003. They said RA 9003 is totally enforced in their workplace and have always complied with RA 9003. Among the four predictors - level of awareness of RA 9003, extent of public participation, availability of resources, extent of enforcement of RA 9003, it is only the availability of resources found to be statistically significantly associated with inland resort extent of compliance to RA 9003, though it is weak (R = 0.281, p-value = 0.030). Further a 0.226 change in the extent of compliance is accounted for every unit change in the availability of resources.Includes bibliographical referencesDoctor of Management (Tourism and Hospitality Management

Level of Compliance of the Local Government Units (LGUs) in the Implementation and Enforcement of R.A. 9003 (known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000) in CALABARZON

Abstract - This study used the descriptive research method to determine the level of compliance, implementation, enforcement, and problems encountered in the implementation and enforcement of Republic Act No. 9003 in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon (CALABARZON). Purposive sampling technique was used to identify the 148 respondents from City Environment and Natural Resources Office/Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO/MENRO) and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in CALABARZON. The frequency, percentage, and mean were used to treat the data gathered. The study revealed that the Local Government Units (LGUs) fully comply to R.A. No. 9003 as they create a Solid Waste Management Board (SWMB) at provincial, city/municipal, and barangay; prepare; and submit a 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan (SMWP). The LGUs implement and enforce R.A. No. 9003 in CALABARZON. Uncooperative residents and strict implementation and enforcement of R.A. No. 9003 by LGUs are the serious problems encountered in the implementation and enforcement of R.A. No. 9003

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
