Scope of Electricity Efficiency Improvement in Switzerland until 2035

This study uses Markowitz mean-variance portfolio theory with forecasted data for the years 2005 to 2035 to determine efficient electricity generating technology mixes for Switzerland. The SURE procedure has been applied to filter out the systematic components of the covariance matrix. Results indicate that risk-averse electricity users in 2035 gain in terms of higher expected return, less risk, more security of supply and a higher return-to-risk ratio compared to 2000 by adopting a feasible minimum variance (MV) technology mix containing 28 percent Gas, 20 percent Run of river, 13 percent Storage hydro, 9 percent Nuclear, and 5 percent each of Solar, Smallhydro, Wind, Biomass, Incineration, and Biogas respectively. However, this mix comes at the cost of higher CO2 emissions.Efficiency Frontier, Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HH), Power Generation, Mean-Variance Portfolio Theory, Seemingly Unrelated Regression Estimations (SURE), Shannon-Wiener Index (SW)

Beira Urban Water Master Plan 2035

The city of Beira in Mozambique can expect an average to strong population growth until 2035. The current drinking water treatment works are located 100 km from the city, due to salt intrusion in the Pungue river. It has been shown that it is more favorable to change the main transport pipeline and expand the treatment works, instead of placing a reverse osmosis (RO) plant closer to the city at the mouth of the river. Furthemore, investments are required to rehebilitate the sewer network and to contstruct "condominial sewer systems". Capital investments of over \u80250 million until 2035 should ensure that the needs pertaining to the population growth scenarios will be met.Sanitary EngineeringWater ManagementCivil Engineering and Geoscience

    Sun corridor 2035

abstract: Arizona is one of the nation’s most urban states, and now it includes one of 20 “megapolitan” areas in the U.S. People have predicted for 50 years that Phoenix and Tucson would grow together into a giant desert conglomerate. That possibility has been seen as exciting, intriguing, and distressing. While a solid city along Interstate 10 is unlikely given the diverse land ownership in central and southern Arizona, the two metro economies are already merging. Megapolitan: Arizona’s Sun Corridor, one of the first reports on a single megapolitan area, recognizes a more sophisticated technique for analyzing urban growth—that shared economic and quality of life interests are more important than physically growing together. Scholars at Virginia Tech defined the megapolitans based on economic and growth patterns. The Sun Corridor, which cuts across six counties from the border with Mexico to the center of Yavapai County, is the home of eight out of 10 Arizonans. In the next several decades, two out of three Americans will live in a megapolitan accounting for 60% of the population on only 10% of U.S. land. Megapolitan offers a bold new picture of Arizona’s geography and its future opportunities and “megaton” challenges. This report presents a scenario for 2035 based on current trends. It analyzes the Sun Corridor and provides insights into the region’s global potential, water, governance, sustainability, and “trillion dollar questions.” It discusses the “tragedy of the sunshine” and asks the indispensable question: In 2035, do you want to live in the Sun Corridor?Includes bibliographical references (p. 51).Copyright by the Arizona Board of Regents for and on behalf of Arizona State University and its Morrison Institute for Public Polic

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
