    Isaiah and Martha Lang papers

    No full text
This collection consists of the correspondence and business records of Isaiah S. and Martha Lang, New Hampshire farmers. It includes significant groupings of letters from Lang's uncle, David M. Sanborn, a Baltimore physician, and from relatives farming on the Minnesota frontier. The letters from Sanborn are especially interesting in light of their particular references to economic and social conditions in a "border state" immediately before and during the Civil War

Tydi-lang: a language for typed streaming hardware: A manual for future Tydi-lang compiler developers

    No full text
Transferring composite data structures with variable-length fields often requires designing non-trivial protocols that are not compatible between hardware designs. When each project designs its own data format and protocols the ability to collaborate between hardware developers is diminished, which is an issue especially in the open-source community. Because the high-level meaning of a protocol is often lost in translation to low-level languages when a custom protocol needs to be designed, extra documentation is required, the interpretation of which introduces new opportunities for errors. The Tydi specification (Tydi-spec) was proposed to address the above issues by codifying the composite and variable-length data structures in a type and providing a standard protocol to transfer typed data among hardware components. The Tydi intermediate representation (Tydi-IR) extends the Tydi-spec by defining typed interfaces, typed components, and connections among typed components. In this paper, we propose Tydi-lang, a high-level hardware description language (HDL) for streaming designs. The language incorporates Tydi-spec to describe typed streams and provides templates to describe abstract reusable components. We also implement an open-source compiler from Tydi-lang to Tydi-IR. We leverage a Tydi-IR to VHDL compiler, and also present a simulator blueprint to identify streaming bottlenecks. We show several Tydi-lang examples to translate high-level SQL to VHDL to demonstrate that Tydi-lang can efficiently raise the level of abstraction and reduce design effort.https://github.com/twoentartian/tydi-lang Source code for the thesis project.Computer Scienc

Helen Bradley Lang graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1935 and later worked as a registrar and instructor of economics at the Maryland State Teachers College. The Papers of Helen Bradley Lang consists of five scrapbooks and one trophy. The collection spans the years 1931 to 1984. The scrapbooks document events at the Univeristy of Maryland during Lang's years as a student. The majority of clippings in this collection can also be found in campus publications such as the Diamondback, a student newspaper, Reville, the yearbook, and also in local newspapers. The scrapbooks primairily document the University's men's sports teams. Only a handful of articles contain personal information about Lang. Topics covered include men's athletics, campus events, "M" Club banquets, the Women's Rifle Team, women's honorary and socical societies, the debate team, and graduation

Luisa Owen-Lang was born in 1935 in a small village in Yugoslavia and immigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen in 1951. In this interview, she discusses her childhood during the expulsion and subsequent ethnic cleansing of ethnic Germans. She also recounts her experiences as she was separated from her family and forced to endure harsh conditions in multiple concentration camps at the age of nine and her life after she moved to the United States. Owen-Lang also wrote a book about her experiences called Casualty of War: A Childhood Remembered, published by Texas A&M University Press
