Cost Management, Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness of Strategic Priorities for Small and Medium Enterprises
AbstractIn this paper, we examine the relationship between cost management practices and competitiveness of strategic priorities of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia. Based on resource based view, we argue that cost management is an important resource to develop competitiveness of strategic priorities. The results show cost management practices are positively associated with SME's competitiveness of strategic priorities. Further analysis demonstrates the relationship between cost management practices and SMEs’ competitiveness of strategic priorities is mediated by entrepreneurship capabilities. This study contributes to the understanding of the effect of cost management practices and entrepreneurship on SME's competitiveness of strategic priorities
The Effect of National Park Mobile Apps on National Park Behavioral Intention: Taman Negara National Park
AbstractNational Park Mobile Apps (NPMA) is an interesting construct which might open new paradigm in tourism research in context of national parks. Although previous research investigated tourist behavioral intention in national parks, the effect of NPMA on National Park Behavioral Intention (NPBI) of tourists from developed countries in still lacking in literature. To address this gap, the current study developed a model which includes the effect of NPMA, as well as mediating effect of National Park Satisfaction (NPSat) on tourists’ NPBI. The research hypotheses where NPMA, and NPSat have a significant effect on NPBI was examined. A self-administrated questionnaire was distributed among 500 tourists from developed countries visiting Taman Negara National Park (TNNP). The data was examined through deployment of structural equation modelling. The findings revealed that NPMA does not affect NPBI directly, however, NPMA has significant indirect effect on tourists’ NPBI through mediation effect of NPSat. Furthermore, NPSat was a full mediator. Findings of this study had practical implication for sustainable NPBI in national parks
Investigating the Effect of National Park Sustainability on National Park Behavioral Intention: Kinabalu National Park
AbstractNational Park Sustainability (NPSus) is an important construct in the context of national parks which will lead tourism industry to move towards sustainable national parks. Although previous studies examined the tourist behavioral intention through deployment of sustainability principles or destination sustainability, there is a lack of research on the effect of NPSus on National Park Behavioral Intention (NPBI). To address this gap, this study developed a model which investigates the effect of NPSus as an independent variable, and National Park Satisfaction (NPSat) as mediator on tourist NPBI. The research hypotheses where NPSus and NPSat have a significant effect on NPBI was examined. A self-administrated questionnaire was distributed among 600 tourists from developed countries visiting Kinabalu National Park (KNP). The data was examined through deployment of structural equation modelling. The findings revealed that NPSus does not affect NPBI directly, however, NPSus has a significant indirect effect on tourist NPBI through mediation effect of NPSat. Furthermore, NPSat was a full mediator. Findings of this study had practical implication to enhance destination sustainability by better understanding the NPBI
Classification of Patient Satisfaction Level on Health Services Using the C4.5 Algorithm
Quality health services are related to patient satisfaction. Patient satisfaction can be used as a benchmark for improving the quality of health services. Problems often occur when implementing health techniques, such as service problems at the Restu Clinic. Patients and their families indicated that although the Restu Clinic was established with adequate facilities, it had not yet reached the maximum level of service. These indications include long waiting times for examinations, a lack of thoroughness by medical personnel, and services that are not timely. Service quality cannot be separated from the dimensions that are the core of quality services, which are expected to meet patient needs. Patient satisfaction is considered an important indicator of good quality. This research will only discuss four aspects of service quality, which are reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy, from health workers at the Restu Clinic. The C4.5 algorithm is known to be superior in producing decision trees that efficiently solve discrete and numerical variables and provide satisfactory accuracy. Therefore, the author conducted a study to assess service quality using the C4.5 algorithm. This research aims to determine the factors that influence the quality of health services and to know patient satisfaction with health services at the Restu Clinic. Knowing the intensity of patient satisfaction with services at the Restu Clinic can improve the quality of optimal services and gain patients' trust in government agencies
A strategic merchandise mix for Malaysian department stores
"Malaysian department stores under-performed', preliminary desk research says.
"Department stores need to monitor the consumers and use merchandising as a
competitive tool", practitioners and academicians advise. Within this parameter, the thesis examined the relationship between consumers, department stores and retail
merchandising.
First, the author explored the impact of the changing market on this `universal provider'
and underlined how the latter had coped (successfully/unsuccessfully) with these
changes through its merchandising activities. Second, she investigated on the
multifaceted dimensions of retail merchandising and established a framework for
strategic merchandise decisions. Third, she tested this framework in the Malaysian
market.
Given that the key to effective merchandising depends heavily on defining and
understanding the target clients, to test the above construct, a consumer survey was
undertaken. Likewise, since fashionable items made up the bulk of department stores'
merchandise, the research instrument was constructed towards uncovering the shoppers'
attitudes towards fashion.
The gathered responses were then subjected to factor and cluster analysis. The former
technique was used to identify the fashion lifestyle orientations. On the other hand, the latter method was used to classify the `cases'. Through these techniques, five fashion lifestyles orientation were uncovered and seven types of customers with fashion lifestyle orientations ranging from as few as two to as many as five factors were
underlined. Further analysis established that local department stores should concentrate on three clusters, which made up 77 per cent of the total market.
A broad overview shows that although they are department store shoppers, they
shopped in other store types as well and engaged in extensive cross shopping.
Moreover, when making purchases, their main trade-off was `quality' and `price'.
Although they generally did not seek the cheapest price, there were on several occasions that quality was compromised for a `better' price. This behaviour was mostly evidenced in the cluster that made up of many Chinese. Another significant discovery was, wide assortment, an attribute most notable in department store retailing, was not distinctively important to these target markets.
At the end of the investigation, a strategic merchandise mix - set of merchandise that
meet the needs and expectations of these three clusters, was offered. It is only through this attainment (a strategic merchandise mix) that local department stores can realise their true potential
ANALISIS KESALAHAN EJAAN BAHASA INDONESIA PADA ABSTRAK SKRIPSI MAHASISWA PROGRAM STUDI PENDIDIKAN GURU SEKOLAH DASAR
This research article aims to examine Indonesian spelling errors in student thesis abstracts where writing errors are found. Student mistakes in writing thesis abstracts sometimes do not use the correct Indonesian spelling. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method and data collection procedures in the form of observation. Based on the results of the research, the samples taken were 10 thesis abstracts of IKIP Siliwangi Elementary School Teacher Education Studies program. In writing an abstract, there is a language spelling that is not correct according to the Enhanced Indonesian Spelling Guidelines (EYD), namely the use of prepositions, the use of capital letters, writing full stops, the use of italics and errors in writing words. There are 16 spelling errors in the abstract of Elementary School Teacher Education students. Based on the results of the discussion above, it can be concluded that there was an inaccuracy of the author in using language spelling in italics, capital letters, prepositions, writing periods and errors in writing words
Dimensions of the Malayness Construct: Scale Development and Empirical Analysis
The main purpose of this paper is to develop a scale -- the Malayness Scale -- to measure ethnic orientation among Malays in Malaysia. Measurement of ethnic subculture must be rooted in a construct that could capture the multi-dimensionality of ethnic orientation since past research points to the weaknesses in using a dichotomous measure of ethnic identity. The dimensions that capture Malayness included in developing the scale are values that are specific to the Malay culture, language, social interactions, and self-identification. Data were collected from adult respondents in Peninsular Malaysia. A stratified quota sampling method was used to ensure a diverse sample of Malays in respect to socio-economic background, gender, and age. This study follows the standard procedures for scale development. Each dimension included in this study for measuring the Malayness construct was tested for its psychometric properties and found to be valid and reliable measures. Implications of the study, limitations and directions for future research are discussed and suggested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR
A review of cloud computing implementation in ASEAN countries
Cloud Computing is a technology that allows services of the communication, file transfer, infrastructure and platform usage to the user through the internet. In the era of globalisation, each of the countries raced to growth cloud technology as the main part of their industrial development. Similarly, with ASEAN countries, they start using cloud technology as a core part of the industrial revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) to increase their economy and raise productivity. ASEAN already started using cloud computing, but some country has slow progress due to several challenges such as the broadband quality, lack of cloud knowledge and security issues. They require some strategies to address this problem in order to prove the ASEAN can be competitive in the use of technology as it can open up better industrial opportunities. This article reviews the published literature on the implementation of cloud computing in ASEAN. The author systematically analysed a total of 37 selected articles. There were 22 of the articles selected through restrictive search criteria while the other 15 were selected based on unrestrictive search criteria. The review shows the cloud implementation, expose the benefit and challenge to grow a cloud computing in general, and focusing the challenge of ASEAN in cloud computing development. This paper concludes with some recommended future works to construct the theory and perform empirical research
