All'ombra dei buchi neri. Roberto Bolaño e la verità in letteratura
This article explores the literary and philosophical dimensions of Roberto Bolaño’s work, with a particular focus on 2666, his monumental posthumous novel. Bolaño’s narrative is here analyzed as a unique interplay between rigorous formal precision and the inherent fragmentation of language, offering a profound meditation on the nature of truth, evil, and human existence. The metaphor of black holes is here employed by the author to conceptualize Bolaño’s depiction of inaccessible truths, shedding light on the dark recesses of experience through fragmented glimpses. By juxtaposing literary analysis with philosophical inquiry, the article examines how Bolaño dismantles traditional paradigms of detective fiction and academic narration, replacing them with a poetics of uncertainty and marginality. Ultimately, Bolaño’s oeuvre is presented as an existential investigation that resists closure, transforming literature into a space where the search for meaning is both an end itself and an act of resistance against definitive explanations
Hablar por la diferencia. Il corpo della loca di Pedro Lemebel
The body as an instrument, subject and object of resistance against Pinochet's dictatorship, but also against a democracy partly conditioned by the US model, is the fulcrum of Pedro Lemebel's work, who, first through his performances, then with his reflections on the radio and finally with his literary production he gave voice to those on the margins of Chilean society. Through the image of la loca, Lemebel traces the fate of those who are doubly marginalized within the system: the metamorphic, transvestite body, sick with AIDS and carnivalesque becomes the fulcrum of the author's reflection. The contribution aims to analyze the theme of the body in Lemebel to highlight how through it the author imposes the voice of not only political but also sexual subalternity, to undermine the pre-established order, the heterocratic society and the exclusionary hierarchies that have always condemned some subjects to a «precarious life» according to Judith Butler's definition
Los ecos de la educación musical en la naciente producción poética de federico garcía lorca
This article aims to examine how Lorca’s juvenile poetry shows a connection to music in different ways: by using words that refer to exquisitely musical forms as a title or subtitle of poems; through the use of technical music terms to express feelings and that is not only sign of the perception of music as a self-expression of feelings, but also source of metaphors and analogies in order to express them with words; with explicit referencies to composers or pieces of music; with allusions to musical elements in the descriptions; finally, by writing two music-themed poems and focusing on the importance of the auditory perception during life and creative process. The use of terms closely connected to music will gradually disappear during the creative experience analysed in this work. As Lorca mastered the new medium of expression, the poetry, he no longer needed music to express himself. However, inevitably, that same music will still play behind many of his words
Strategic Arab-Kurdish Alliance: Syria's Support of Kurdish Organisations during the Cold War
All major Kurdish political movements interacted with foreign states in search of resources and support. Besides superpowers, it was the Arab nationalist regime of Syria that cooperated with foreign Kurdish radical groups in the most stable way as well as instrumentalised them. The paper fills the gap in scholarship by focusing on Damascus' relations with the Iraqi Kurdish groups in the 1950s – 1990s and noting their significance for Syria's alliance with Kurdish militants from Turkey. What drove them, how the dynamics of these relations changed, what role did this cooperation play in Kurdish politics and which consequences it had? The most active phase of these relations included the 1970s and the 1980s. The Assad regime's Kurdish policies were closely related to Syria's rise as a regional power enabled by its tapping into external resources. These were provided by a number of states driven by Cold War developments. The paper focuses on the question of Kurdish own agency in such interactions: how the Kurdish groups succeeded or failed in avoiding dependency on the Syrian regime. The research relies on Iraqi, Iranian, Turkish and Soviet media reports and political documents of the time, archival records, memoirs
Democratic Confederalism and the Theory of History: Historical Ontologies of Political Alternative in Bookchin, Öcalan, and Graeber
This paper aims to discuss the "historical ontology of political alternative" emerging from the work of Abdullah Öcalan by comparing it to the ones of two other authors: Murray Bookchin, who has notoriously influenced his thought, and David Graeber, whose interest for the Kurdish movement and the thought of Öcalan has been significantly overlooked so far. The analysis delves into how the three authors frame the conditions of possibility for the historical emergence of radical political alternatives. Special attention is given to the contrasts between Bookchin and Öcalan in this respect, with special attention to the couple continuity/discontinuity and archaic/modern, to their distinctive views of dialectics and of the articulation between the dialectical poles, and to the roles of consciousness and knowledge in their political and historical reflections. Additionally, it investigates the theoretical and political convergence between Öcalan and Graeber, focusing on the notions, respectively, of democratic civilisation and baseline communism
U.S.-Taliban negotiations and the Doha Agreement (2001-2020)
The article analyzes the negotiation process and the final agreement that ended the U.S. war in Afghanistan. While general attention was dedicated to the dramatic withdrawal and the Taliban takeover, less focus was directed towards the negotiations and the agreement between the U.S. and the insurgent group, signed in Doha on the 29th of February 2020. The paper underscores two pivotal observations. Firstly, despite the agreement's emphasis on peace, its primary objective is a strategic advantage for both parties. Secondly, the events of August 2021 were not unforeseen but were rooted in the negotiation process and the specific provisions outlined in the finalized agreement. Methodologically, the chronological proximity of these events necessitated the use of debates within the U.S. Congress, reports, and existing literature
45 Years of Law 194 in Italy. How Does Regional Politics Impact on the Right to Access Abortion?
Law 194 introduced the right to abortion in Italy in 1978. Since then, the literature reports a persistent ineffectiveness of the right to abortion throughout the country. This research addresses the relevance that regional political actors attach to this issue and the position they take, investigating a sample of eight Italian regions over 10 years, from 2013 to 2023. The analysis is based on an original data collection, including legislative and oversight activities on the issue of abortion in the selected regions. The results show that the issue is of little relevance to Italian parties, although there are some exceptions, and that, in terms of orientation, the center-left and the Five Star Movement generally adopt a pro-abortion stance, while the center-right parties tend to support anti-abortion positions. Analyzing the narrative behind these positions, the results also highlight the variety of arguments used by anti-abortionists to support their position
