Abstract
This study analyzes the role of symbolic objects in the protests of Last Generation (Ultima Genera-zione) movement, highlighting their communicative and mobilizing impact. Using a visual sociology approach, it examines images and documentation to identify three key functions of these objects: as targets, instruments of protest, and emotional stimuli. The research demonstrates that these objects are not mere accessories but narrative devices that shape public debate and redefine forms of mobilization. The analysis suggests that studying symbolic objects is essential to find understanding the communicative strategies of contemporary social movements
EnA significant feature of the agricultural landscape of Salento is the alternation of flat areas, characterized by fertile land with gardens and vegetable gardens, and areas dominated by outcropping rock, which predominantly mark the hills that define the Salento "Serre". Notable examples of these landscapes include: the Arneo area, located between Nardò and Manduria; the Cupa area, which extends south of Lecce; the Galatina basin, and the Taviano valley. In these areas, the historical dynamics and settlement patternes have ancient origins. From the centuriation traces in the Roman era to the settlement of farmhouses in the Middle Ages, up to thespread of the farmhouse settlement and subsequently of mansions, country houses an dholiday cottages. The result is an overlapping of layers that define the typical cultural landscape. The transitin from these areas, primarily devoted to agricolture, to those dominated by rocky terreain suitable only for pastoralism and subsistence farming, determines diverse landscape features. These are accentuated not only by the geomorphological factors but also by the vegetation's colors and the spread of small plots enclosed by dry stone walls, characterized by a myriad of trulliform structures. A landscape that expresses itself with all its characteristics on the Serre hills.
Feminicide and the Necropolitics of Latin American Migration in the United States
This article focuses on the dialectic between the ordinary invisibility of feminicide crimes in the United States and the exceptional visibility of select others. Using analytic perspectives from feminist and anthropological perspectives, it highlights feminicide cases from the rural Midwestern United States and places them in the broader context of the on-going crisis of murdered women in the Americas. It argues that the violent murders of young white college-educated women are used instrumentally to deepen and advance immigration policy against racialized Latin American populations while continuing to render all women vulnerable to lethal intimate partner violence through public erasure and institutional impunity
Iranians' Unauthorized Mobility Projects to Europe: A Digital Ethnography of Smuggling and Solidarity
In the last decades, Iran has witnessed an increasing development of the culture of migration due to several political, social, and economic causes. This has led to the widening and specialization of the corresponding migration industry, with the role of the so-called digital infrastructure evolving in creative and innovative ways. Relying on several months of digital ethnography on virtual platforms used by Persian-speaker individuals to share information about border crossing, this paper aims to shed light on some under-represented strategies and practices of self-determination of Iranian citizens who plan to irregularly reach Europe as their final or intermediate destination. By doing so, it intends to problematize some perspectives that have long informed contemporary migration studies, such as the figure of the smuggler and the multifaced concept of solidarity informing these virtual networks. The data partially challenges the categorization of smugglers as 'evil villains' through an exploration of the moral economy of smuggling. Often depicted as pure victims, Iranians illegally moving never cease to have aspirations and remain subjects who make more or less calculated tactical choices about how to reconfigure their lives and advance their projects. The decision to move is interpreted in light of the migration autonomy approach, which focuses on the generative, exceeding, and multiple dimensions of migration movements
