Synthesis of (2R,3S)-2-(3,4-Dihydroxy phenyl)chroman-3,5,7-triol Derivative Boron Compounds: Antioxidant, Enzyme, Antimicrobial, and Antibiofilm Activities
(2R,3S)-2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)chroman-3,5,7-triol compound corresponds to catechin, which is from the flavanol class of flavonoids and has many pharmacological effects such as anticarcinogenic, antioxidant, dermatological, antihypertensive, antiviral, antimutagenic, antidiabetic. The aim of this study is to investigate novel drug candidates for several human diseases composed of catechin and boronic acid derivatives. Catechin was modified by various types of boronic acid compounds. In the derivatization experiment, phenyl boronic acid, 6-methoxy naphthalene boronic acid, 1,4-phenyl diboronic acid, 3-formyl phenyl boronic acid, and 4-methoxy-3-formyl phenyl boronic acid, 4-methoxy phenyl boronic acid were firstly used to modify catechin. The newly obtained compounds were structurally elucidated by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR, and LC-MS spectral techniques. All novel derivatives were examined for antioxidant (with particular methods such as ABTS, DPPH, and CUPRAC), enzyme, and antibiofilm activities. Most compounds were determined to be more active or effective than those standard compounds. Among all derivatives, CB-2 showed the highest inhibition of enzymes and the highest antioxidant activities. Biological results revealed that the boronic-modified compounds could be designed as potential antioxidants, enzymes, antimicrobials, and antibiofilm agents
Adsorption of Bisphenol A onto β-Cyclodextrin-Based Nanosponges and Innovative Supercritical Green Regeneration of the Sustainable Adsorbent
Bisphenol A is a widely recognized endocrine disruptor that persists in ecosystems, harms aquatic organisms, and contributes to ecological degradation, raising global environmental concerns. Numerous studies have explored beta-cyclodextrin-based adsorbents for Bisphenol A removal; however, their regeneration remains a major challenge, often relying on energy-intensive processes and excessive use of organic solvents. In this study, Bisphenol A was selected as a model pollutant, and its adsorption onto beta-cyclodextrin nanosponges was investigated. After adsorption, Bisphenol A was efficiently recovered from the saturated beta-cyclodextrin nanosponges using an innovative and sustainable supercritical CO2-based green process, which simultaneously regenerated the adsorbent. The adsorption process achieved an efficiency of 95.51 +/- 0.82% under optimized conditions (C-0 = 150 mg/L, m(beta-CDNS) = 0.15 g, T = 25 degrees C, and N = 200 rpm), with a maximum adsorption capacity of 47.75 +/- 0.28 mg/g. The regeneration process achieved over 99% efficiency at 60 degrees C and 300 bar, with 10% (v/v) ethanol as a co-solvent, nearly fully restoring the adsorbent's performance. Unlike conventional regeneration techniques, this green approach eliminates the need for environmentally harmful organic solvents while preserving the adsorbent's structural integrity, making it a highly efficient and sustainable alternative. This study is the first to demonstrate the effective application of supercritical CO2-based regeneration for beta-cyclodextrin nanosponges in Bisphenol A removal, providing a scalable and environmentally sustainable solution for wastewater treatment. Furthermore, characterization analyses confirmed that the adsorbent retained its chemical and morphological stability after adsorption and regeneration
ANALYSIS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION MUSIC TEXTBOOKS IN TERMS OF VALUES EDUCATION
Eğitim materyallerinin değerleri şekillendirme konusundaki önemi günümüz eğitim yaklaşımlarında giderek daha fazla vurgulanmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmanın amacı, farklı eğitim kademelerindeki (İlkokul I. Kademe 1-4. sınıflar, Ortaokul II. The importance of educational materials in shaping values is increasingly emphasized in today's educational approaches. In this context, the purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of values education implemented in music classes for students with mild intellectual disabilities attending different educational levels (Primary School First Stage Grades 1-4, Middle School Second Stage Grades 5-8, High School Third Stage Grades 9-12) and in vocational special education high schools. In the study, it was analyzed how the root values of the lyrics in music textbooks were represented. The findings revealed that certain core values such as love, patriotism, and friendship are frequently addressed; however, significant values like honesty, respect, and altruism are almost entirely unrepresented. These results indicate that music lessons need to be restructured to provide a more comprehensive contribution to the moral and ethical development of students. It is suggested that education policymakers, educators, music teachers, and special education experts consider these findings to develop more effective and inclusive music education programs for students with mild intellectual disabilities
Polymeric organic Amberlite™ IRC-200 extract resin compound as a novel corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl acid: detail experimental, surface, molecular studies (DFT + MC/MD) and kinetic isotherm adsorption
The potential adsorbent for inhibitors of corrosion in HCl 1.0 M was investigated using experimental and modeling data on a novel cationic polymeric resin composite called Amberlite™ IRC-200. The resin has a significantly better ability to adsorb the Ni(II) ions. Molecular dynamics (MD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and DFT theory were among the methods used to examine the polymeric adsorbent resin. In this work, the adsorbent cationic polymeric resin is used to suppress corrosion in HCl 1.0 M. Experimental results demonstrated that ACQ and DAQ significantly increased MS corrosion resistance; results from Tafel polarization demonstrated that resin polymeric compounds exhibited disordered-type inhibitory properties with varying corrosion rates. Results from the highest best impedance experiments showed that at 100 ppm, ACQ inhibited performance to a 94.9% degree. Adsorption of the cationic adsorbent polymeric resin followed the most recent findings in the Langmuir model, and the most recent estimations of thermodynamic parameters indicated physisorption. Scanning transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the MS morphological investigation. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.Ibn Tofaïl University of KenitraUniversidad Autónoma Metropolitana, UAMKing Abdulaziz University, KAUNational Center for Scientific and Technical Research CNRS
The place of conceptual art in the secondary school visual arts curriculum applicability
The general purpose of this research is to investigate whether conceptual art is included in the Visual Arts Course Primary School Curriculum. In line with this purpose, the findings obtained were used to examine its applicability in the course. This research is within the scope of qualitative research and structured with a systematic literature review. The data obtained were evaluated by content and document analysis with a deductive approach. In the research, the presence of words determined with a random sample in the achievements was examined. The 2009 curriculum was renewed in 2013 and most of the 2018 GSDÖP achievements were created in 2013. There are words that can represent conceptual art in the 2013 and 2018 GSDÖP achievements. The existence of achievements that can be applied to conceptual art shows that conceptual art is compatible with the 2018 GSDÖP. Conceptual art develops children's cognitive, creative, emotional and social skills, makes them think and helps them see the world from different perspectives. Therefore, conceptual art is an important tool that allows children to have a healthy and balanced development process and should be clearly included in the visual arts course curriculum. As a result; conceptual art is not clearly stated when GSDÖP is examined, but since it is a part of contemporary art, it can be applied in the visual arts course of the second grade of primary school
The Mediating Role of Reflective Thinking between Preschool Teachers' Personality Traits and 21st-Century Skills
The radical changes in technology, education, and social life have resulted in changes in individuals' personality traits, thinking styles, and skills. Teachers have a primary role in adapting children to these changing conditions. The educational opportunities offered in the early years can ensure that children are equipped with the knowledge and skills required by the 21st century, shaping their personality traits in this direction and developing reflective thinking skills. Within this context, the importance of preschool teachers, whom the child encounters and takes as a model other than family members, comes to the fore. The present study examines the mediating effect of reflective thinking tendencies on the relationship between preschool teachers' personality traits and 21st-century skills. This research aimed to test the mediating role of reflective thinking between preschool teachers' personality traits and their 21st-century skills, revealing the relationships between these variables. Therefore, path analysis from structural equation models was preferred. According to the findings of the study, reflective thinking was found to be a full mediator between extraversion and 21st-century skills. Reflective thinking was found to be a partial mediator between personality types openness to development and self-control and neuroticism and 21st-century skills. There is a positive relationship between 21st-century skills and openness to experience and self-control
The effects of online pilates training on cognitive functions and dual task performance in people with multiple sclerosis: A randomized controlled study
Background: Cognitive impairments in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) are common and aggravate dualtask (DT) performance. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of online Pilates training on cognitive functions and the DT performance of balance, walking, and functional mobility in PwMS. Method: In this randomized controlled trial, forty-six PwMS were recruited and randomly allocated into two groups. The Online Pilates group (OPG) received Pilates training via videoconferences three days per week during six weeks at home. The control group (CG) was a waitlist with no Pilates treatment. Cognitive Functions were assessed with Montreal Cognitive Asssessment (MoCA), The Trail Making Test (TMT), and The Stroop Test (ST). DT performance was assessed with mental tracking and verbal fluency during postural stability (PS), walking, and functional mobility. Results: At the end of six weeks, the interaction effects (time x group) revealed significant differences for MoCA (p = 0.024), TMT-B (p = 0.012), ST (p <= 0.012), PS-with mental tracking (p = 0.004), PS-with verbal fluency (p = 0.003), cadence-with mental tracking (p = 0.048), and functional mobility-with mental tracking (p = 0.043) in favor of the OPG. Additionally, MoCA, TMT, ST, and DT performance during balance and functional mobility significantly improved in after six-week online Pilates training, but did not in CG. Conclusion: Pilates training via videoconference was effective in the improvement of cognitive functions and DT performance in PwMS. Online Pilates may be considered for improving cognitive impairments and DT performances in PwMS with barriers to accessing clinics. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT0646233

Dirofilaria immitis, also known as canine heartworm, is an important filarial nematode transmitted by mosquitoes, and causes infection in many different mammalian hosts, including humans. D. immitis is reported in different parts of the world and is endemic in countries in the Mediterranean basin, including Türkiye. While there is epidemiological data on the prevalence and distribution of D. immitis in dogs around the world and in Türkiye, there is a lack of information on the situation in cats. The aim of this master's thesis study is: i) to investigate D. immitis in cats and dogs in Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir, the three largest cities in Türkiye in terms of human population, ii) to determine the genetic diversity of the nematode according to the study areas and animal species by DNA sequence analysis of the positive samples, iii) to develop a Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method that can be used in the diagnosis of D. immitis in hosts. For these purposes, 600 samples (300 cats and 300 dogs) will be collected from Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir provinces, and these samples will be examined by PCR in terms of D. immitis. During the project, the phylogenetic analysis of D. immitis circulating in the study area using bidirectional DNA sequence analysis of the positive samples. Finally, a LAMP method will be developed that can be used to detect D. immitis in different hosts. The developed method will be optimized and made available for use in studies. As a result of the project; up-to-date molecular data on D. immitis, the vector-borne zoonotic nematode of cats and dogs in Türkiye will be obtained. Phylogenetic analysis of D. immitis found in cats and dogs in three provinces of the country with different geographical characteristics will be carried out, and the genetic diversity of the nematode will be investigated according to regions and animal species. With the project, a molecular method that can be used in the diagnosis of D. immitis will be developed. After the optimization of the method is completed, it will be used both in the project and in the field. Considering that the presented project is a master's thesis project, at the end of the project, a student who knows the process of diagnosing parasitic pathogens and investigating their genetic diversity will be trained
The Significance of SARC-F Scores in One-Year Mortality of Adults with High Nutritional Risk with Cancer
Sarcopenia, being prevalent in up to 70% of cancer patients, is associated with adverse clinical outcomes. The use of the Simple Questionnaire for Rapidly Diagnose of Sarcopenia (SARC-F), a questionnaire developed to screen for sarcopenia, remains to be investigated in cancer patients. The aim in this study was to assess the prognostic value of SARC-F on one-year mortality in cancer patients at high nutritional risk. This retrospective cohort study included patients at high nutritional risk undergoing cancer treatment and who were screened with the SARC-F questionnaire. The primary outcome was one-year all-cause mortality. A total of 185 patients were included with a median age of 68 years, with 58.6% male. The main cancer sites were digestive system (36.2%), and respiratory system (27.6%). The prevalence of sarcopenia risk was 59.5% and was more common in patients with older age, greater comorbidities and frailty. There was an association between sarcopenia risk and one-year mortality in all cancer patients (p = 0.002) and non-metastatic cancer patients (p = 0.005). There was no association between the risk of sarcopenia and one-year mortality in patients with metastatic cancer. The SARC-F score might be applicable to identify prognosis for cancer patients
The Effect of the Covid 19 Pandemic on the Antibiotic Resistance Levels of Staphylococcus aureus Strains
Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a significant human pathogen that can cause a diverse range of diseases, from mild skin and soft tissue infections sepsis. The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare the antibiotic resistance status of S. aureus strains and the change in the prevalence of met-hicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) before, during and after the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in our hospital. Materials and Methods: The present study was designed to encompass three cross-sectional phases before COVID-19 pandemic (1 January 2018 to 31 December 2019, two years), the pandemic period (11 March 2020 to 10 March 2022, two years), and the post-pandemic phase (5 May 2023 to 31 De-cember 2023, seven months). In the study, the incidence and antibiotic resistance status of S. aureus strains cultured and identified from various clinical samples were retrospectively analyzed using data from the hospital laboratory information system. Results: As a result of the study, when the antibiotic resistance status of S. aureus strains was exami-ned, it was determined that gentamicin resistance had a resistance rate of 4% in the pre-pandemic period and 6.9% in the pandemic period. A downward trend was observed in MRSA rates during the pandemic. A higher MRSA prevalence was observed before the pandemic compared to the following two periods (p=0.093). In addition, a higher MRSA prevalence was observed in the intensive care unit in the pre-pandemic period compared to other wards (p=0.075). Conclusions: The decrease in MRSA prevalence during the pandemic period may be due to a number of factors, such as the implementation of quarantine measures, improved hand hygiene practices and meticulous attention to contact precautions. The increase in gentamicin resistance rates observed during the pandemic period may be due to excessive intensive use of antibiotics
