The Impact of Impingement Surface Angle Variation and Channel Design on Heat Transfer Performance and Flow Characteristics for Twin Jet Impingement

    No full text
This study intends to give a detailed research of surface angles of impingement, and jet-plate distances to enhance heat transfer and improve the channel’s flow structure features for twin jet impingement. For this aim, numerical analysis of twin jet impingement was carried out for distinct impingement surface angles (α) of 30◦, 45◦, and 60◦ and the impinging jet-plate distances (H) of 3, 4.5, and 6. The numerical investigation was performed as a steady, two-dimensional, employing the k-ε turbulence model and the Ansys–Fluent program in the twin jet rectangular channel. While the isothermal flat plate impingement surface has 310 K (TH), the impinging air jet fluid temperature is 300 K (T). The obtained outcomes were compared with the numerical and experimental outcomes of the work in the literature and it was noticed that they are determined to be compatible. The results were presented as the local Nu number (NuL) variations for α = 30◦, 45◦ and 60◦ impingement surface angles along the flat plate impingement surface, and the variations of mean Nu numbers (Num) for different α and H values with the Re number ranges of 20000–50000. Besides, streamlines and temperature isotherms were evaluated for different α, H and Re number values by visualising them in detail. The results displayed that while the Num values are higher than the case without angle (α = 0◦) for all angles and H values, after the 30◦ angle, the Num values decrease slightly at 45◦ and 60◦. Accordingly, for H = 6, the Num value of 30◦ impingement surface angle is 3.09% higher than that in 60◦

The structural effects in the lightest stable nuclei were the first to be studied experimentally by focusing on isospin mixing, properties of isospin multiplets, and α clustering. Recently, the existing experimental data for the γ decay of the stable N = Z doubly-odd nuclei and the β decay of the corresponding isospin multiplets were reviewed [1]. With the advances in ab initio many-body theories, there is renewed interest in the structure of these nuclei. For the first time in 10B, the competing M1 and M3 transitions from the decay of the isobaric analog state have been observed in a γ spectroscopy experiment [2, 3, 4]. Understanding the radioactive-decay probability of the Hoyle state in 12C is still controversial, and it is strongly desired to solve this puzzle by precise determination of the radiative-decay probability of the Hoyle state [5]. Previous measurements yield controversial results [6-8], therefore we have performed a γ-particle spectroscopy experiment to cross-check the result of Ref. [6] which differs by 3σ from the charged-particle spectroscopy measurements [7, 8]. The measurement of the gamma-decay is an important tool to study the Iso-Vector Giant Dipole Resonance (IVGDR) built on excited states and also the low-energy tail of the GDR in stable and unstable nuclei, where structures, named Pygmy Dipole Resonance (PDR), are present at energies around the particle binding energy [9, 10]. The GDR, where the maximum E1 strength is concentrated, is an ideal probe for looking for small effects in the isospin symmetric states in 72Kr at low temperature through the γ decay of the GDR populated by fusion reactions [11]. To further understand the microscopic origin of the PDR and possible cancellation effects between isovector matrix elements, which appear to be strongly modeldependent, the neutron 1p-1h structure of the PDR via (d, pγ) reaction was studied at the N = 28, 50 neutron shells, as well as the Z = 28 proton shell nuclei. We have performed four experimental campaigns using, the Eli, IFin, And Tandem (ELIFANT) array, large-volume LaBr3: Ce, and CeBr3 placed in anti-Compton shields and having unprecedented efficiency and Compton suppression for high-energy γ rays [12]. It provided a unique opportunity to address all these open questions. In this talk, I will give an overview of the experiments performed with the ELIFANT array

A release is a type of contract in which the creditor and the debtor terminate the debt between them by compromise. Prior to the Turkish Code of Obligations No. 6098, there was no regulation in Turkish Law regarding the release agreement. With the entry into force of the Turkish Code of Obligations No. 6098 on 01.07.2012, the deficiencies regarding the release agreement in Turkish Law were tried to be eliminated. The release agreement eliminates the debt partially or completely. For this reason, there should not be a debt between the parties that leaves no room for doubt. In practice, it is seen that release agreements, which are generally regulated in order to eliminate the debt in debt relations, are frequently regulated in labor relations. Law No. 6098 has introduced a different regulation for release agreements to be issued in labor relations and subjected the validity or release agreements in labor contracts to different conditions. In the first part of the study, the release is analyzed within the scope of general provisions and the general conditions sought for the release agreement to be valid are included. In the second part of the study, the validity of the release agreements to be issued in the field of Labor Law is tried to be examined within the framework of the Turkish Code of Obligations, in line with the opinions of the doctrine and judicial decisions. In the third part of the study, release agreements are compared with similar institutions

This study aimed to investigate the effect of sports experience on proprioceptive sense by investigating the relationship between proprioceptive sense and digit ratio (2D: 4D) in badminton athletes. The study included 60 badminton players (30 males, 30 females) with a mean age of 9.94±1.59 years and 2.62±1.08 years of sports experience. The deflection angle was measured at 90° shoulder flexion. The digit ratio (2D: 4D) was measured using digital calipers as an indicator of prenatal hormone exposure. The findings showed that proprioceptive sense improved with increasing sports experience. A significant negative correlation existed between sports age and deflection angle (r=-0.372; p=0.023). While significant sex differences were found in both right and left-hand 2D: 4D ratios (p=0.001; p=0.002), no significant sex difference was detected in the deflection angle (p=0.506). Furthermore, no significant relationship was found between 2D: 4D ratios (right or left hand) and proprioceptive sense (p=0.156 and p=0.717). These findings indicate that sports experience is critical in proprioceptive development, while sex and digit ratio (2D: 4D) show no significant effect. The study emphasizes the importance of incorporating proprioceptive training into young athletes' training programs. Future studies should examine these relationships with larger samples and in different sports disciplines. The study was produced from Karaoğlan (2024), Sivas Cumhuriyet University Health Sciences Institute master's thesis "Relationship between Proprioceptive Sense and 2D-4D Finger Length Ratio in Badminton Athletes

ObjectiveThe present study was conducted to test the validity and reliability of the Academic Life Satisfaction Scale (ALSS) on adolescents.DesignTwo different samples were recruited for data collection. The first sample consisted of a total of 423 high school students, 272 (64.3%) females and 151 (35.7%) males, with a mean age of 15.97 (SD = 1.16). The second sample also comprised 360 high school students, 225 (62.5%) females, and 135 (37.5%) males, with a mean age of 16.44 (SD = .76). The Personal Information Form, the Academic Procrastination Scale, and the ALSS - Adolescent Version (ALSS-AV) were utilised as data collection tools.ResultsConfirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) confirmed that the adolescent version has good structural validity. The factor analyses revealed that the scale had a two-factor structure and an acceptable fit to the data. The multiple-group CFA results regarding gender revealed that the structure of the scale had measurement invariance on both female and male students. Analyses also revealed that the scale had good convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. Furthermore, the internal consistency and split-half reliability of the scale were found to be adequate.ConclusionThe ALSS-AV has good evidence of validity and reliability in a sample of adolescents. It can be used to assess academic life satisfaction among this group

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) is an important public health problem due to its diverse clinical presentations, diagnostic complexities, and significant impact on patient outcomes and public health. Our study aimed to understand the sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory characteristics as well as diagnostic and treatment modalities of adult patients with EPTB. This is a multicentric retrospective study that covers patients with EPTB cases followed up from January 2015 to December 2022 among tuberculosis (TB) dispensaries and Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology clinics of 15 hospitals located in various regions of Turkey. The study included 64.6% women with a mean age of 44 years and a mortality rate of 3.5% within 1 year of diagnosis. Initial constitutional symptoms were predominantly fatigue (57%) and anorexia (53.7%). The most commonly affected sites were the lymph nodes (49.1%) and pleura (9.7%). The lumbar region was particularly involved in cases with spinal TB. Diagnostic findings included acid-fast bacilli positivity in 27.5% of cases, tuberculosis polymerase chain reaction positivity in 41%, elevated adenosine deaminase levels in 91.2% (especially in pleural and peritoneal fluids), and mycobacterial culture positivity in 40.9%. Pathology slides showed granulomatous inflammation in 97.7%. Increased C-reactive protein (CRP) levels correlated with the number of organs affected. Anti-TB treatment-related hepatotoxicity was detected in 8.9% of patients. In this study, it is important to note that the lumbar region is predominantly affected with involvement in spinal region. CRP level was consistent with the number of organ involvements and was one of the most critical results of this study

Embodied cognition and the placebo effect: Implications for temporomandibular disorder therapy

    No full text
Our cognitive state influences our emotional state, whereas negative emotions can lead to cognitive issues such as anxiety and depression and also impact our physical body. Conversely, bodily movements and postures can affect our consciousness, influencing how we believe—either improving or worsening our state. This bidirectional interaction between cognition and the body means that each can influence the other. Understanding this reciprocal relationship can be beneficial in the treatment of temporomandibular disorder (TMD). This article aims to raise awareness of the interplay among cognition, emotion, and the body and to provide orthodontists and patients with TMD with a novel perspective on the treatment of TMD. © 2024 American Association of Orthodontist
