Synthesis of sustainable heterocyclic aryl sulfonamide derivatives: computational studies, molecular docking, and antibacterial assessment

    No full text
The treatment of infectious diseases is impacted by the emergence of multidrug-resistant microbiological infections. Due to the long-term usage of antibacterial clinical drugs, microbes develop resistance to clinical drugs. To take advantage of the potential of these families of chemicals, several derivatives of thiophene containing p-toluene sulfonamide (TPS) were prepared using an eco-friendly method with high yields. These synthetic derivatives had a wide range of structural diversity to demonstrate a structure-activity link. In multi-component reaction (MCR), the versatile reactants (1 mmol) react for up to 6-8 h at pH 7.2 +/- 0.2 and temperature 70 +/- 1 degrees C. The reaction involved the reusable organic catalyst l-Proline (1 mol%), and the mechanisms through a Knoevenagel condensation pathway, which has the advantage of effectively producing the described thiophene derivatives (TD). Then, further TD reacts with p-toluene sulfonamide (Tosyl-Cl) at 0 degrees C within 10-12 h to provide the final product TPS. The present investigation provides an inexpensive and eco-friendly method of TPS derivatives. A perusal of the tables indicates that TPS derivatives exhibited promising activity against S. typhimurium as compared to E. coli and S. aureus. The compounds having good activity contained electron-withdrawing as well as electron-donating substituent groups on the benzaldehyde benzene ring of the amino part of the amide.Graphical abstract Green sustainable development of multi component heterocyclic aryl sulfonamide reactionJazan University [RG24-M033]; Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Jazan University, Saudi ArabiaThe authors gratefully acknowledge the funding of the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Jazan University, Saudi Arabia, through project number: (RG24-M033)

Investigating the relationship between impulsive behaviors and Turkish pedestrians' attitudes based on sociodemographic factors

    No full text
Pedestrian attitude is an important issue in road safety. In order to understand pedestrian attitudes, it is necessary to study their sociodemographic and psychological characteristics. With respect to this, the aim of the study was to examine age and sex differences in impulsive behavior and the role of impulsive behavior on pedestrian attitudes in T & uuml;rkiye. A total of 347 Turkish pedestrians (145 male, 202 female) completed the Pedestrian Attitude Questionnaire (PAQ), the Urgency Premeditation Perseverance Sensation Seeking (UPPS) Impulsive Behavior Scale, and a Questionnaire Form. First, the psychometric structure of the PAQ was found to support the original structure, addressing attitudes towards other road users and attitudes towards traffic rules. With increasing age, negative attitudes towards traffic rules decreased. Female pedestrians also showed more negative attitudes towards other road users. The results of hierarchical regression analyses indicate that impulsive behavior is significantly associated with pedestrian attitudes depending on sociodemographic factors. The findings suggest that pedestrians' impulsive behavior may influence their attitudes in traffic, but this influence varies by age and sex. The outcomes have important implications for intervention studies and road safety.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Tuerkiye (TUEBIdot;TAK)Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Tuerkiye (TUEB & Idot;TAK). Inverse nodal problems has been studied for Sturm-Liouville equations with point δ coaction. First, the eigenvalues of the problem are obtained. Then, the solution of the inverse problem is given by obtaining potential function and the parameters in the boundary conditions with the help of a dense set of nodal points. Lastly, the uniqueness theorem is proven and a constructive procedure for solutions is provided.[No abstract available

Lutetian-Bartonian (Middle Eocene) micropalaeontology, biostratigraphy and palaeoecology of the Mengen Coal Basin, Northwest Turkiye (Turkey)

    No full text
This study focuses on the upper Lutetian-lower Bartonian Tokmaklar Formation in the Mengen Basin of Northwest Turkiye (Turkey), examining various aspects such as biostratigraphy, palaeoecology, and isotope data (S18O and S13C), providing insights into the geological history and environmental conditions during this interval. Moreover, the study incorporates coal petrography on four samples to explore a potential correlation between the coalification process and the preservation of palynomorphs. The formation is informally divided into two distinct categories: a coal-bearing sequence positioned at the base of the formation and a coal-free sequence above it. However due to dense vegetation and soil cover in the area, the availability of suitable outcrops for measured sections and obtaining samples is severely limited. Therefore, we relied on drilling data from Turkish Coal Enterprises (TCE) for the purpose of coal exploration, as well as two partial sections (Ender and C,orak) from underground mining. Microapalaeontological evidences involving benthic foraminiferans, ostracods, and palynomorphs, along with isotope data (S18O and S13C), suggest that the Tokmaklar Formation was deposited as a result of a local transgressive process during the late Lutetian-early Bartonian. Furthermore, palynological data, particularly the existence of mangroves such as Nypa, lepidocaryoid palm and Acrostichum aureum, coupled with quantitative palaeoclimate analysis, the negative S18O values, and the lower S13C values indicate a warm, probably tropical climate under high rainfall. No full text
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have multiple biological functions in the vascular system including in endothelial cells (ECs). Hepatocellular carcinoma associated transcript 1 (HULC) is a lncRNA and highly up-regulated in liver cancer. Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) is a remarkable risk factor for various disease. We investigated and compared HULC expression in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) treated with two different concentration of ox-LDL. We used quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) method to detect HULC expression level in HUVECs. HULC expression was found to be statistic significantly up-regulated in HUVECs treated with higher concentration of ox-LDL (PLong non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have multiple biological functions in the vascular system including in endothelial cells (ECs). No full text
Objective: Specialty theses in the field of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology (IDCM) play an important role in shaping medical knowledge, yet their publication in scientific journals remains a critical concern. We reviewed the theses of the IDCM specialty program, analyzed the publication rates in scientific journals, and made some recommendations for the future. Materials and Methods: We analyzed the registered IDCM theses in the electronic database of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK, Ankara) between 1984 and 2021. Specialty theses from other medical fields, PhD and master theses, were excluded from the study. Results: Out of 1265 theses, 1061 were included after exclusion criteria were applied. The study revealed that 647 (61%) of residents were female. Of 1061 authors, 117 (11%) received financial support during the preparation of the thesis. The most common thesis topics were viral hepatitis, healthcare-associated infections, antibiotic susceptibility, zoonotic diseases, febrile neutropenia, and sepsis. The predominant type of study design was observational (88%). Notably, 27 (3%) were randomized controlled trials. The overall rate of publication in a peer-reviewed journal was 25%. Nonetheless, 117 (11%) theses were published in the journals indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI) or the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E). The median time from the presentation of theses to publication was four years. Conclusion: The publication rate of specialty theses in scientific journals in the field of IDCM was found to be low. Publication of the thesis as a scientific manuscript should be a part of the residency program and the completion process of the thesis. All the residents or young specialists should be encouraged to submit their theses for publication. © 2025, DOC Design and Informatics Co. Ltd.. All rights reserved

TÜBİTAK 1002C Doğal Afetler Odaklı Saha Çalışması Acil Destek Programı ve TÜBİTAK 121Y410The Eastern Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ) is a significant neotectonic feature in Anatolia, characterized as an active intra-continental left-lateral strike-slip fault. The EAFZ comprises two distinct parts: the southern branch, referred to as the main branch, and the northern branch. This study examines the surface rupture near Çelikhan (Adıyaman) on the Erkenek Segment, which developed during the February 6, 2023 Pazarcık earthquake (Mw 7.7), occurring along the southern branch of the EAFZ. The primary emphasis of this study centers on preliminary findings derived from thorough geological investigations conducted on the surface fault rupture. Additionally, novel insights into seismic activity associated with the Erkenek Segment were revealed for the first time through meticulous field studies. In the studies, the maximum left-lateral displacement measured in the Çelikhan section of the surface fracture was 3.25 meters, accompanied by a vertical slip of 50 centimeters. The magnitude of left-lateral displacement decreased and attenuated moving northeastward from Çelikhan. Based on kinematic analysis of slip data obtained from fault planes along the Erkenek segment, the deformation aligned with the segment's geometry and occurred within a strike-slip tectonic regime influenced by compressional stress predominantly oriented in NE-SW and NNW-SSE directions.

The significance of taurine for patients with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever and COVID-19 diseases: a cross-sectional study

    No full text
Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the change in taurine levels in two diseases [Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) and novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19)], which have a significant impact on public health as they frequently cause mortality and morbidity. Methods: This observational, cross-sectional study was conducted between September 15, 2023, and November 30, 2023, at the Emergency Department, Sivas Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine. There were three groups in our study. These groups were 35 COVID-19 patients with confirmed diagnosis, 35 CCHF patients, and a control group consisting of 35 healthy volunteers who were similar to these patient groups in terms of age and gender. Plasma amino acid levels of taurine, beta-alanine, arginine, carnosine, cystine, histidine, lysine, and methionine were measured and compared in these three groups. Results: In the pairwise comparison of the groups, the increase in taurine plasma levels in CCHF (p<0.001) and COVID-19 (p=0.002) patients compared to the control group was statistically significant, whereas the difference between CCHF and COVID-19 patient groups was not significant (p=0.303). Multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that taurine, beta-alanine, arginine, and lysine levels were significant predictors in differentiating patients with CCHF and COVID-19 from healthy individuals. Conclusions: We concluded that it may be important to determine taurine levels during the treatment and observation processes of these two diseases, which seriously affect public health. This study will contribute to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of the CCHF and COVID-19 diseases
