    The effect of solution-focused approach on the internet, social media addiction and self efficacy levels of nursing students

    Araştırma Çözüm Odaklı Yaklaşım'ın hemşirelik öğrencilerinin internet, sosyal medya bağımlılığı ve öz yeterlilik düzeylerine etkisini incelemek amacıyla yapıldı. Bu araştırma randomize kontrollü deneysel tipte bir çalışmadır. Araştırmanın evrenini Sivas Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Hemşirelik Bölümü ve Suşehri Sağlık Yüksekokulu Hemşirelik Bölümüne kayıtlı ve aktif olarak eğitime devam eden, 1. 2. ve 3. sınıflarda öğrenim gören 1057 hemşirelik öğrencisi oluşturdu. Dâhil edilme ve dışlanma kriterleri doğrultusunda 326 hemşirelik öğrencisi belirlendi. Araştırma 28 deney ve 28 kontrol grubu olmak üzere toplam 56 hemşirelik öğrencisi ile yürütüldü. Veriler Kişisel Bilgi Formu, İnternet Bağımlılık Ölçeği, Sosyal Medya Bağımlılığı Ölçeği ve Öz Etkililik-Yeterlik Ölçeği kullanılarak uygulama öncesi ve sonrası olmak üzere iki kez toplandı. Müdahale grubu ile Çözüm Odaklı Yaklaşım'a dayalı toplam sekiz oturumdan oluşan görüntülü konuşmalar gerçekleştirildi. Veriler IBM SPSS V23 programı ile analiz edildi. Verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı istatistiksel yöntemlerin (sayı, yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma, ortanca) yanı sıra Bağımsız Örnekler t testi, Mann Whitney U testi, Eşli Örnekler T testi, Wilcoxon testi, Pearson Ki-Kare testi, Fisher Exact testi, Monte Carlo Düzeltmeli Fisher Exact testi kullanıldı. Sayısal değişkenler arasındaki ilişkilerin analizinde Pearson Korelasyon katsayısı, Spearman's rho Korelasyon katsayısı kullanıldı. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin internet, sosyal medya bağımlılığı puan ortalamaları ile öz yeterlilik düzeyleri arasında negatif yönde orta düzey ilişki saptandı. Uygulama sonrası müdahale grubundaki hemşirelik öğrencilerinin İnternet Bağımlılık Ölçeği ve Sosyal Medya Bağımlılığı Ölçeği puan ortalamaları kontrol grubuna göre daha düşük bulunurken, Öz Etkililik-Yeterlik Ölçeği puan ortalamaları ise kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksek bulundu ve bu farkların istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olduğu saptandı (p<0,001). Araştırma sonuçları Çözüm Odaklı Yaklaşım'a dayalı sekiz oturumluk girişimin hemşirelik öğrencilerinin internet, sosyal medya bağımlılığı ve öz yeterlilik düzeyleri üzerinde olumlu bir etkiye sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda Çözüm Odaklı Yaklaşım, bu konuda eğitim almış birinci basamak sağlık hizmeti ekibi üyesi olan halk sağlığı hemşireleri tarafından, geç adölesan dönemdeki üniversite öğrencilerinin internet ve sosyal medya bağımlılığını önlemek ve onların öz yeterlilik düzeylerini artırmak amacıyla kullanılabilir. Farklı riskli gruplarda internet, sosyal medya bağımlılığını önlemeye yönelik Çözüm Odaklı Yaklaşım'a dayalı müdahale çalışmalarının sayısının artırılması ve elde edilen sonuçlar doğrultusunda halk sağlığı hemşirelerinin koruyucu sağlık hizmetinin geliştirilmesi önerilmektedir.The study was conducted to examine the impact of the Solution Focused Approach on internet and social media addiction, as well as self-efficacy levels, among nursing students. This research is a randomised controlled experimental type study. The study population comprised 1,057 nursing students enrolled in Sivas Cumhuriyet University's Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, and the Suşehri School of Health's Department of Nursing. These students are currently enrolled in their first, second, or third academic year. In accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 326 nursing students were determined. The study was conducted with 56 nursing students, 28 of whom were assigned to the experimental group and 28 to the control group. Data was collected twice, before and after the intervention, using the Personal Information Form, Internet Addiction Scale, Social Media Addiction Scale, and Self-Efficacy Scale. Online interviews based on the Solution Focused Approach were made with the intervention group. The data were analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics software, version 23. In addition to descriptive statistical methods (number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, median), a range of inferential statistical techniques were employed in the data analysis, including the Independent Samples t-test, Mann Whitney U-test, Paired Samples t-test, Wilcoxon test, Pearson Chi-Square test, Fisher Exact test, and Fisher Exact test with Monte Carlo Correction. The relationships between numerical variables were analysed using the Pearson correlation coefficient and Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient. A moderate negative correlation was identified between nursing students' scores on the Internet Addiction Scale and the Social Media Addiction Scale and their self efficacy levels. Following the intervention, the median scores for the Internet Addiction Scale and the Social Media Addiction Scale for the nursing students in the intervention group were lower than those in the control group. In contrast, the median scores for the Self Efficacy Scale were higher for the intervention group than for the control group, and these differences were statistically significant (p < 0.001). The findings of the study indicated that the eight-session intervention based on the Solution Focused Approach had a favourable impact on nursing students' internet and social media addiction and self-efficacy levels. In line with these results, the Solution Focused Approach can be used by public health nurses, who are members of the primary health care team trained in this field, to prevent internet and social media addiction in late adolescent university students and to increase their self-efficacy levels. It is further recommended that the number of intervention studies based on the Solution Focused Approach be increased to prevent internet and social media addiction in different risk groups. In addition, it is recommended to improve the preventive health services of public health nurses in line with the results obtained

    Novel antimicrobial defensin peptides from different coleopteran insects (Coleoptera: Insecta): identification, characterisation and antimicrobial properties

    Antimicrobial peptides are crucial components of the immune systems of both vertebrates and invertebrates. Here, defensins, the most studied class of antimicrobial molecules in arthropods were investigated in four coleopteran insect species: Harpalus rufipes (DeGeer, 1774), Mylabris quadripunctata (Linnaeus, 1767), Sphaeridium marginatum (Linnaeus, 1758), and Ocypus mus (Brull & eacute;, 1832). The peptides synthesized with over 95% purity and their antimicrobial activities were evaluated by MIC test method. As a result, it was determined that Mylabris quadripunctata defensin (MqDef) showed high antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA, whereas Sphaeridium marginatum (SmDef) and Harpalus rufipes (HrDef) defensins against Candida tropicalis.Sivas Cumhuriyet University [CUBAP-F-555]This study was financially supported by a grant from Sivas Cumhuriyet University (CUBAP-F-555).     A new approach in the treatment of ultrasound-guided synovial hypertrophy

    Background/aim: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) causes pain and limited movement, negatively impacting daily life in older adults. Hypertrophy and changes in the synovial tissue significantly contribute to the pain. While intraarticular injections are common in OA treatment, specific therapies for hypertrophic tissue are rarely mentioned. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of local anesthetic and steroid injections in the knee's intraarticular space and hypertrophic synovial tissue. Materials and methods: Our retrospective study included patients with grade 3 or 4 knee OA diagnosed with ultrasound-guided suprapatellar effusion and synovial hypertrophy. Pain was assessed using a numerical rating pain scale (NRS) and functional capacity was evaluated with the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) Index. Effusion was first drained from the suprapatellar region using a 22-gauge spinal needle under ultrasound guidance, followed by lavage with 40 mL of 0.9% NaCl solution. A mixture of 10 mL (2 mL triamcinolone hexacetonide, 7 mL of prilocaine, and 1 mL of 0.9% NaCl) was injected intraarticularly, and 6 mL was injected into the hypertrophic synovial tissue. Patients were followed before the injection and at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after the injection. Results: Analysis of the WOMAC scores and NRS values at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after the injection revealed statistically significant reductions (p 0.05). Ultrasound evaluation indicated regression of the synovial hypertrophy tissue. Conclusion: This injection method, practiced in the treatment of synovial hypertrophy as one of the causes of pain in knee OA, reduced pain and significantly increased functional capacity

    New hydrazone derivatives: synthesis, characterization, carbonic anhydrase I-II enzyme inhibition, anticancer activity and in silico studies

    A new series of hydrazone derivatives (1a-1l) were prepared from a condensation reaction between different hydrazide derivatives and 3-formylbenzoic acid. Through the use of several spectral techniques, such as 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and elemental analysis, the structures of the compounds were clarified. The crystal structure of compound 1d was obtained by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. They were found to have inhibitory effects on the anticancer potentials and human carbonic anhydrase isoforms I and II. Compound 1d was found to be the strongest inhibitor, with IC50 values of 0.133 mu M against hCA I. Also, compound 1l showed the highest inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 3.244 mu M against hCA II. Moreover, their cytotoxic effects on rat glioma cell and colon adeno carcinoma cell lines were evaluated. According to the cytotoxicity results, compounds 1j and 1l exhibited the highest cytotoxicity on the HT29 cell, while compounds 1e, 1g, and 1l showed the strongest cytotoxic effect on C6 cell line. Compound 1l, which carries the methoxy substituent at the 3rd position on the phenyl ring, was effective against both cancer cells and showed the highest inhibitory effect on hCA II.     Simultaneous determination of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs by HPLC after solid phase extraction

    Bu çalışmada kimyasal birlikte çöktürme yöntemiyle yeni bir manyetik nanokompozit (M-BCKÇK) sentezlenmiştir. Manyetik nanokompozit için kullanılan biyokömür sentezinde kabak çekirdeği kabukları kullanılmıştır. Sentezlenen M-BCKÇK'nın karakterizasyonu taramalı elektron mikroskobu - enerji dispersif spektrometre (SEM-EDS), X-ışını kırınımı (XRD), titreşimli örnek manyetometresi (VSM) ve Brunauer - Emmett-Teller (BET) yüzey analizi ile yapılmıştır. BET analiz sonuçlarına göre, M-BCKÇK'nin yüzey alanı 177 m2/g, VSM sonuçlarına göre manyetik doygunluk değeri 50,3 emu/g olarak bulunmuştur. Debye-Scherrer formülü kullanılarak M-BCKÇK'nın parçacık boyutu 13,7±1,2 nm olarak hesaplanmıştır. Sentezlenen M-BCKÇK, manyetik katı faz ekstraksiyon yönteminde (MSPE) naproksen, diklofenak ve ibuprofenin eş zamanlı tayininde kullanılmıştır. Yöntemin optimum koşulları pH 6, adsorban miktarı 50 mg, adsorpsiyon süresi 10 dk, elüsyon süresi 15 dk, elüent hacmi 2,0 mL, elüent cinsi % 5 (h/h) NH3-Asetonitril(ACN) olarak belirlenmiştir. MSPE yönteminden sonra naproksen, diklofenak ve ibuprofen miktarı HPLC-DAD ile belirlenmiştir. Optimum koşullarda naproksen, diklofenak ve ibuprofen için geliştirilen MSPE-HPLC-DAD yönteminin gözlenebilme sınırı sırasıyla 8,7 µg/L, 16.6 µg/L, 14.8 µg/L, gün içi tekrarlanabilirlik için % bağıl standart sapma değerleri ≤ % 4,8 ve günler arası tekrarlanabilirlik için ≤ %7,4 olarak bulunmuştur. Geliştirilen yöntem göl suyu ve çeşme suyu örnekleri üzerinde uygulanmış geri kazanım % 96-106 aralığında bulunmuştur.In this study, a new magnetic nanocomposite (M-BCSC) was synthesized by chemical co-precipitation method. Pumpkin seed shells were used in the biochar used for magnetic nanocomposite. The characterization of the synthesized M-BCSC was carried out by scanning electron microscope - energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM-EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface analysis. According to the BET analysis results, the surface area of M-BCSC was found to be 177 m2/g, and the magnetic saturation value was found to be 50.3 emu/g according to the VSM results. The particle size of M-BCSC was calculated as 13.7±1.2 nm using the Debye-Scherrer formula. The synthesized M-BCSC was used in the simultaneous determination of naproxen, diclofenac and ibuprofen in the magnetic solid phase extraction method (MSPE). The optimum conditions of the method were determined as pH 6, adsorbent amount as 50 mg, adsorption time as 10 min, elution time as 15 min, eluent volume as 2,0 mL, and eluent type as 5% (h/h) NH3-Acetonitrile. After the MSPE method, the amounts of naproxen, diclofenac and ibuprofen were determined by HPLC-DAD. Under optimum conditions, the detection limit of the developed MSPE-HPLC-DAD method for naproxen, diclofenac and ibuprofen was found to be 8.7 µg/L, 16.6 µg/L, 14.8 µg/L, respectively, % relative standard deviation values for within-day reproducibility were found to be ≤ 4.8% and for between-day reproducibility, ≤ 7.4%. The developed method was applied on lake water and tap water samples and the recovery was found to be in the range of 96-106%

    This study investigated the relationships between the navicular drop test (NDT), hallux valgus angle (HVA), and subtalar angle with balance, knee muscle strength, and single-leg hop in university students. The study design was a cross-sectional correlational study and 215 volunteers between the ages of 18-36 were included in the study. Both feet were tested using the NDT, HVA, and SA measurements. Balance was assessed with Y balance test, knee muscle strength with hand dynamometer, and jumping with single-leg hop. Left-side NDT only showed a positive weak correlation with right-side flexor knee muscle strength (r:0.136, p:0.046). Right-side HVA showed a negative weak correlation with all knee muscle strength results (r:0.179-(-0.132),p:0.07-0.022). Left-side HVA showed a weak negative correlation with both sides’ extensor knee muscle strength (right;r:-0.141,p:0.039, left;r:-0.179,p:0.009). SA did not significantly correlate with balance, knee muscle strength, and single-leg hop (p>0.05). There was no significant correlation between NDT and SA with balance, knee muscle strength, and single-leg hop in university students. There was no significant correlation between HVA and balance and single-leg hop, but it significantly negatively correlated with knee muscle strength. This study showed increased hallux valgus angle may be associated with decreased knee muscle strength in young adults. © 2025, Inonu University. All rights reserved

    Direct arylation of heteroarenes catalyzed by palladium complexes based on N-isopropyl-substituted N-heterocyclic carbenes

    A series of seven 1-isopropyl-5,6-dimethylbenzimidazolium chlorides with a range of benzyl substituents on their N3 position (1a-g) were synthesized and used as NHC ligand precursors to prepare the corresponding [PdCl2(NHC)(Py)] complexes (2a-g). The structural analyses of all novel compounds were done by 1H and 13C {1H} Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, and elemental analysis was also performed to evaluate the purity of the complexes. Also, the solid state structures of complexes 2d and 2g have been determined by the X-ray crystallography technique. Under optimized reaction conditions, the catalytic activity of the palladium complexes was tested by direct arylation of 2-n-propylthiazole, 2-n-propylfuran, and 2-n-propylthiophene with various aryl halides at 120 degrees C for 1 h and 3 h. It was observed that palladium complexes gave high yields and were selective at the C5-position of heteroaryl derivatives. Complex 2g, with an NHC N3-substituted by a 2,3,4,5,6-pentamethylbenzyl group showed the highest conversion probably due to the flexibility, the electronic and mostly the steric effects of this group

    Experimental, density functional theory and molecular docking studies about the interaction between 6-MP and DNA: A biosensor study

    In the paper presents a new DNA biosensor including 6-Mercaptopurine (6-MP), a well-known anticancer drug. Interactions with single-stranded and double-stranded calf thymus DNA (ct ds DNA and ct ss DNA) of the mentioned drugs were checked via experimental and theoretical tools. The experimental part of the article includes the voltammetric analyses made to see the interaction between 6-MP and DNA. Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were performed to evaluate changes in charge transfer resistance (Rct) due to interactions on the PGE surface. The limit of detection (LOD) was determined as 2.43 mu g/mL and 1.13 mu g/mL for ct-dsDNA and ct-ssDNA interaction, respectively. In the experiments, a low-cost electrode frequently used in electrochemical analysis, was preferred the pencil graphite electrode (PGE) was preferred. In the theoretical section, the chemical reactivity of 6-MP was highlighted in the light of Conceptual Density Functional Theory (CDFT) based reactivity descriptors and electronic structure principles. The nature of DNA-drug interaction was highlighted through Molecular Docking analysis and obtained docking results supported the experimental observations. Our study shows the interaction of 6-MP with DNA biosensors. It is an original study as it is being studied for the first time. Therefore, the results obtained will guide researchers in future studies on biosensors

    Analysis of Turkish Religious Affairs Foundation Publications 4-6 age story books in terms of values education

    Araştırmanın temel problemini "TDV Yayınlarının 4-6 Yaş Değerli Masallar Serisi ilgili yaş düzeyinin değerler eğitiminde kullanılabilecek nitelikte midir?" sorusu oluşturmaktadır. Değerler eğitimi son yıllarda bilimsel çalışmalara sıkça konu edilen bir alan olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Okul öncesi dönem, eğitimde ne kadar önemliyse değerleri kazandırmada da o kadar kritik bir dönem olarak kabul edilmektedir. İşte bu kritik döneme denk gelen 4-6 yaş grubuna yönelik yayımlanmış olan TDV Yayınları 4-6 Yaş Değerli Masallar Serisi adlı kitaplar bu çalışmada incelenerek alanyazına katkı sunmak amaçlanmıştır. Bizi bu çalışmayı yapmaya yönlendiren en önemli neden Türkiye Diyanet Vakfı (TDV) Yayınlarının bu yaş aralığına yönelik kitaplarıyla ilgili daha önce alanda böyle bir çalışma yapılmamış olmasıdır. Çalışmada evreni oluşturan 15 adet masal kitabı incelenerek ve nitel araştırma yöntemleri kullanılarak standart bir ölçek doğrultusunda bu kitaplarla ilgili içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler ışığında her kitap tek tek değerlendirilerek bulgularla birlikte bir sonuca varılmıştır. Buna göre kitapların belli ölçütlerde standardı karşıladığı sonucuna ulaşılmaktadır. Sayısı az olsa da bazı kitaplarda da bazı ölçütlerin göz ardı edildiği görülmektedir. Bununla birlikte kitap serisinin 4-6 Yaş Grubu Kur'an Kursu Öğretim programıyla yer verilen değerler açısından bire bir örtüşmediği sonucu da ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu değerlendirmeler doğrultusunda bir takım önerilere de çalışmanın sonunda yer verilmiştir.The main problem of the research is "Is TDV Publications' Valuable Fairy Tales Series for 4-6 Year Olds qualified to be used in the values education of the relevant age level?" It constitutes the question. Values education has emerged as an area frequently subject to scientific studies in recent years. Preschool period is considered as a critical period in acquiring values as much as it is important in education. The aim of this study is to contribute to the literature by examining the books titled TDV Publications 4-6 Age Precious Fairy Tales Series, which were published for the 4-6 age group during this critical period. The most important reason that led us to conduct this study is that no such study has been conducted in the field before regarding the books of the Turkish Religious Foundation (TDV) Publications for this age range. In the study, 15 fairy tale books that make up the universe were examined and a content analysis was conducted on these books in line with a standard scale using qualitative research methods. In the light of the data obtained, each book was evaluated one by one and a conclusion was reached with the findings. Accordingly, it is concluded that the books meet the standard in certain criteria. Although the number is small, it is seen that some criteria are ignored in some books. However, it has also been revealed that the book series does not exactly match the 4-6 Age Group Quran Course Curriculum in terms of the values included. In line with these evaluations, some suggestions are included at the end of the study
