The effect of read-writ-compare teaching method on academic success of students with deficiency meta analysis

Bu amaçla Oku-Yaz-Karşılaştır (CCC) öğretim yönteminin yetersizliği olan öğrencilerin akademik başarısı üzerindeki etkisini araştıran deneysel araştırma bulguları tek-denekli araştırmalardaki betimsel ve niteliksel analizleri yapılarak "kabul edilebilirlik" ölçütlerini karşılayan çalışmaların etki büyüklüğü hesaplamaları yapılmıştır. Meta-analiz yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada tek-denekli araştırma yöntemleriyle tasarlanmış olan yetersizliği olan bireylere Oku-Yaz-Karşılaştır (CCC) öğretim yöntemi ile yapılan akademik becerilerinin öğretimini hedefleyen konuyla ilgili 2012 – 2020 yılları arasında yayımlanmış çalışmalara ulaşmak için elektronik ortamda alan yazın taraması yapılmış 52 çalışmaya ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmalar dâhil etme ve dışlama ölçütleri açısından değerlendirilerek 23 çalışma analizlere dâhil edilmiştir. Bu çalışmalar, sırasıyla, örtüşmeyen veri yüzdesi ve Tau-U hesaplama teknikleri ile etki büyüklükleri hesaplanmış elde edilen bulgular ışığında akademik becerilerinin öğretiminde kullanılan öğretim yönteminin etkili olup olmadığına ilişkin değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Ayrıca, meta analiz yöntemiyle bu uygulamaların bilimsel dayanaklı uygulamalar olup olmadığı değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular, 9 çalışmanın "kabul edilebilirlik" ölçütünü karşıladığını ve bu çalışmaların etki büyüklükleri incelendiğinde ölçütleri karşılayan çalışmaların sırasıyla en fazla çok etkili daha sonra etkili çalışmaların geldiği yalnızca bir etkisiz çalışmanın olduğu sonucu elde edilmiştir. Çalışmada uygulamaya ve ileri ki araştırmalara yönelik çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.In this study, the effect of the Read-Write-Compare (CCC) teaching method on the academic achievement of students with disabilities was investigated. For this purpose, descriptive and qualitative analyzes of the experimental research findings investigating the effect of the Read-Write-Compare (CCC) teaching method on the academic achievement of students with disabilities were made and the effect size calculations of the studies meeting the "acceptability" criteria were made. It was analyzed using the meta-analysis method. In this study, 52 studies were conducted in the electronic environment in order to reach the studies published between 2012 and 2020 on the subject, which aims to teach the academic skills of individuals with disabilities, designed with single-subject research methods, with the Read-Write-Compare (CCC) teaching method. 23 studies were included in the analysis, evaluating the studies in terms of inclusion and exclusion criteria. In these studies, the percentage of non-overlapping data and effect sizes were calculated with Tau-U calculation techniques, respectively, and in the light of the findings obtained, evaluations were made on whether the teaching method used in the teaching of academic skills was effective or not. In addition, it has been evaluated whether these applications are scientifically based applications with the meta-analysis method. The findings revealed that 9 studies met the criterion of "acceptability" and when the effect sizes of these studies were examined, it was concluded that the studies that met the criteria were the most effective, followed by only one ineffective study, followed by effective studies. Retrospective evaluation of the association of impaired fasting glucose and hyperlipidemia in patients applying to the family medicine outpatient clinic
ÖZET Amaç: Diyabetin erken tanı ve takibi ile sonrasında gelişebilecek metabolik bozuklukların önlenmesinde aile hekimleri önemli bir yere sahiptir. Diyabetin erken dönemi olan bozulmuş açlık glukozu (BAG) ile lipid metabolizma bozukluğu birlikteliğini inceledik. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Retrospektif olan çalışmamıza aile hekimliği polikliniğine başvuran bilinen diyabeti, dislipidemisi, kardiyovasküler hastalığı olmayan 993 hasta dâhil edildi. Olguların demografik özellikleri, açlık kan glukozu (AKG), total kolesterol, trigliserid, yüksek yoğunluklu lipoprotein [high density lipoprotein (HDL)], düşük yoğunluklu lipoprotein [low density lipoprotein (LDL)] ve hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) parametreleri değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılanların %67,9’u kadındı ve %41,6’sında BAG vardı. Olguların %35,4’ünde (n=352) LDL; %33,6’sında (n=334) total kolesterol; %26,2’sinde (n=260) trigliserid değerleri yüksek; %51,1’inde (n=507) HDL düşük olarak saptandı. BAG görülenlerde yaş ortalamalarının ve trigliseridin yüksek olma oranının, AKG düzeyi normal olanlardan yüksek olduğu görüldü (p<0,001) (p<0,001). Erkeklerde BAG görülme oranı kadınlardan daha yüksekti (p<0,05). BAG olanların HbA1c düzeyleri, AKG düzeyi normal olanlardan yüksekti (p<0,001). LDL düzeyi, total kolesterol düzeyi ve trigliserid düzeyi yüksek olan olguların yaş ortalamaları, normal değerlere sahip olanlardan yüksek saptandı (p<0,001). Trigliserid düzeyleri yüksek olan olguların HbA1c yüzdesi düzeyleri, normal olan olgulardan yüksekti (p<0,05). Sonuç: BAG döneminde glukoz metabolizması ile birlikte lipid metabolizma bozukluğunun da başlayabileceğine dair veriler saptanmıştır. Koruyucu hekimlik uygulamalarında, erken dönemde risk altındaki hastaları belirleyerek, glukoz ve lipid metabolizması açısından takiplerinin yapılması klinik önem taşıyabilir.ABSTRACT Objective: Family physicians have an important place in early diagnosis and follow-up diabetes and prevention of metabolic disorders that may develop later. We examined the association of impaired fasting glucose (IFG) which is the early stage of diabetes, and lipid metabolism disorder. Material and Methods: Our retrospective study included 993 patients without known diabetes, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease who applied to Family medicine outpatient clinic. Demographic characteristics of the cases, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) parameters were evaluated. Result: Of the study participants, 67.9% were women and 41.6% had IFG. LDL in 35.4% (n=352) of cases; 33.6% (n=334) of total cholesterol; 26.2 % (n=260) had high triglyceride values; HDL was found to low in 51.1% (n=507). The rate of high triglyceride levels and mean age of patients with IFG were higher than those with normal FPG levels (p<0.001) (p<0.001). The incidence of IFG in men was higher than women (p<0.05). HbA1c levels of patients with IFG were higher than with normal FPG (p<0.001). The mean age of the patients with high LDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were found higher than patients with normal values (p<0.001). The HbA1c levels of the cases with abnormal triglyceride levels were higher than those with normal levels (p<0.05). Conclusion: We observed data indicating that lipid metabolism disorder may start together with glucose metabolism in IFG period. In preventive medicine practices, it may be clinically important to identify patients at risk in early period and follow them in terms of glucose and lipid metabolism
Comparison of local and systemic ibuprofen for relief of postoperative pain in symptomatic teeth with apical periodontitis
Background: One of the aims of endodontic treatment is to control preoperative and postoperative pain. The present study evaluated the effects of local and systemic ibuprofen on postoperative pain. It aimed to determine the most effective method for relieving postoperative pain due to chemomechanical preparation. Material/Methods: Ninety patients with symptomatic apical periodontitis were randomly assigned to local ibuprofen, systemic ibuprofen, and control groups (n=30 each). Chemomechanical preparations were performed using a ProTaper Universal Ni-Ti rotary file under 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid irrigation. After the root canals were dried with sterile paper points, while Odontocide paste was applied into the root canals of the patients in the local ibuprofen group, calcium hydroxide paste was applied into the root canals of the patients in the systemic ibuprofen and control groups. Following completion of the endodontic treatment procedure, 200 mg ibuprofen was prescribed to patients in the systemic ibuprofen group. Friedman and Wilcoxon tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: Posttreatment pain scores were recorded at 6, 12, 24, and 48 h using a visual analogue scale. Although there were no significant differences between the local ibuprofen group (Odontocide) and the control group (Ultracal) (P>0.05), pain scores in the systemic group (Ultracal+200 mg ibuprofen) were significantly lower than those in the other 2 groups (P<0.05). Conclusions: These results indicate that systemic administration of ibuprofen is effective for postoperative pain relief
Cytological diagnosis of genital ureaplasma urealyticum and its importance in cervical inflammation
Abstract OBJECTIVE: Cervical smear cytology, which is a gynecological cervical cancer screening test, can provide information about the presence of pathogenic microorganisms or the inflammation they cause. Among them, Ureaplasma urealyticum (Uu), which is a subspecies of Mycoplasma was held responsible for high-grade cervical intraepithelial lesions and malignancy due to long-lasting complicated vulvovaginitis clinic. We aimed at investigating the role of Uu in the inflammatory process of the cervix and to describe the cytological features that enable it to be recognized microscopically in cervical smear test. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Cervical smear and mycoplasma culture data of 123 women with complicated vulvovaginitis findings were evaluated. According to the Uu culture results, women were divided into two groups: the Uu-positive (n=59) and the Uu-negative group (n=64). The groups were compared in terms of cervical smear results, macroscopic view of the cervix, and secondary cytological evaluation results. RESULTS: The presence of inflammatory signs (83.1%) in the Uu-positive group was observed to be 83.1%, whereas 67.2% in the Uu-negative group, and the difference between the two groups was found to be significant (p=0.04). Besides, the difference in aggregated polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) between Uu-positive group (59.3%) and Uu-negative group (40.6%) was statistically significant (p=0.04). Similarly, nuclear atypia of epithelial cells in the Uu-positive group (33.9%) was observed to be higher than in the Uu-negative group (17.2%) (p=0.03). CONCLUSIONS: Uu causes inflammation of the cervix and cervical intraepithelial lesions. Aggregated PMNL observed in cervical smear cytology may be one of the findings that will give clues for Uu
CFD simulations and analyses of asymptomatic and symptomatic nasal airway obstructions
Abstract The numerical simulations of the flow in nasal airways were performed for two different clinical cases. The results comprised the distributions of scalars at five different sections and included contours of pressure, velocity magnitude, turbulent kinetic energy and vorticity magnitude. Simulations showed the air branching occurring at the inferior meatus is unaffected by the variations in the volumetric flow rate or the changes in the flow regime through the olfactory cleft. However, the contractions and the following rapid change in the cross-section of the nasopharynx preclude the upward penetration of the vacuum field set by the lungs during the inhalation process. As a result, considerably low velocities and significant cross-sectional nonuniformities are observed, which lead to the appearances of the secondary flow structures and strong unsteadiness. Increased interactions between the airflow and the walls of the nasal cavity resulted in an increase in the vorticity on the right middle meatus and upper inferior meatus. The vorticity was also very high in the nostrils, where the flow was not fully developed. © 2022 World Scientific Publishing Company
Stationary distribution and extinction of stochastic coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic model
The aim of this paper is to model corona-virus (COVID-19) taking into account random perturbations. The suggested model is composed of four different classes i.e. the susceptible population, the smart lockdown class, the infectious population, and the recovered population. We investigate the proposed problem for the derivation of at least one unique solution in the positive feasible region of nonlocal solution. For one stationary ergodic distribution, the necessary result of existence is developed by applying the Lyapunov function and the condition for the extinction of the disease is also established. The obtained results show that the effect of Brownian motion and noise terms on the transmission of the epidemic is very high. If the noise is large the infection may decrease or vanish. For validation of our obtained scheme, the results for all the classes of the problem have been simulated numerically
Paediatric stone management: Innovations and standards
PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The aim of this study was to discuss current trends and recent developments in the surgical management of paediatric urolithiasis. RECENT FINDINGS: Medical expulsive therapy (MET) is considered as an option for the treatment of children with ureter stones. Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) remains as a first option for majority of kidney stones and upper ureter stones. Advances in endourology have led to increased adoption of retrograde intrarenal surgeries (RIRS) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL/mini-PCNL/ultra-mini-PCNL/micro-PCNL). SUMMARY: Management of paediatric stone disease has developed significantly in the past decade. However, the evidence in the literature remains disproportional to these advances. Well designed multicentric studies are still needed to compare effectiveness and safety of these procedures
Impact of nonlinearity and wave dispersion parameters on the soliton pulses of the (2+1) - dimensional Kundu-Mukherjee-Naskar equation
Abstract In this study, we explain the impact of nonlinearity and wave dispersion parameters on the soliton pulses of the (2+1)-dimensional Kundu-Mukherjee-Naskar equation. In this regard, some new optical solitons are received via the unified method to the aforesaid equation to explain such impact on the soliton pulses. The presented optical solitons are expressed by the dark, bright, periodic, bell, kink, and singular soliton solutions. Considering both effects help stabilize the soliton pulses during their propagation by generating new dynamics depending upon the nonlinearity and the wave dispersion parameters of the studied equation. All the characteristics of the soliton pulses are exhibited graphically. It is found from the graphical outputs that the soliton profiles are decreasing and increasing with the increase of nonlinearity and dispersion parameters, respectively. The outcomes reveal that the soliton pulses are balanced due to the influences of nonlinearity and wave dispersion parameters of the aforementioned equation. It is mentioned that the impact of wave dispersion and nonlinearity parameters on the soliton pulses has not been discussed before. Therefore, the applied method permits the explanation of the various wave dynamics by analyzing the attained soliton solutions in nonlinear optical fibers systems, which can be used for further studies
The investigation of foot structure within children who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: A case controlled study
The impairments in motor performance could be related to the foot structure in children with attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) while considering the close relationship between foot structure and lower extremity alignment. This study aimed to investigate the foot structure and its relationships between disease severity, physical activity and psychiatric traits in children with ADHD. Children with ADHD (n = 50; mean age: 12.02 ± 1.83 years) and typically developing peers (n = 30; mean age: 12.86 ± 2.56 years) were included. The static footprint analysis was collected by using digital images. The ImageJ program was used to calculate Clarke’s angle, Staheli arch index (SAI) and Chippaux–Smirak index (CSI). The Turgay DSM-IV disruptive behavior disorders rating scale (T-DSM-IV-S), physical activity questionnaire for older children (PQ-C), children’s depression inventory and state-trait anxiety inventory for children were all used to assess symptoms of ADHD, physical activity, depression, stress and anxiety, respectively. Approximately 52–53% of children with ADHD had mild to severe flatfoot, while only 8–13% of typically developing peers had flatfoot based on SAI and CSI (P = 0.01). Significant correlation was found between Clarke’s angle and PQ-C (r = 0.21, P = 0.04). Besides, T-DSM-IV-S was significantly correlated with SAI (r = 0.24, P = 0.01) and CSI (r = 0.25, P = 0.01) in children with ADHD. Children with ADHD had a significantly greater tendency of flatfoot compared to typically developing peers. Besides, the deterioration of the foot structure of children with ADHD was associated with disease severity
Investigation of adequate closed form travelling wave solution to the space-time fractional non-linear evolution equations
This work aims to construct exact solutions for the space-time fractional (2 + 1)- dimensional dispersive longwave (DLW) equation and approximate long water wave equation (ALW) utilizing the two-variable (G′/G,1/G)-expansion method and the modified Riemann–Liouville fractional derivative. The recommended equations play a significant role to describe the travel of the shallow water wave. The fractional complex transform is used to convert fractional differential equations into ordinary differential equations. Several wave solutions have been successfully achieved using the proposed approach and the symbolic computer Maple package. The Maple package program was used to set up and validate all of the computations in this investigation. By choosing particular values of the embedded parameters, we produce multiple periodic solutions, periodic wave solutions, single soliton solutions, kink wave solutions, and more forms of soliton solutions. The achieved solutions might be useful to comprehend nonlinear phenomena. It is worth noting that the implemented method for solving nonlinear fractional partial differential equations (NLFPDEs) is efficient, and simple to find further and new-fangled solutions in the arena of mathematical physics and coastal engineering
