    New fractional modelling, analysis and control of the three coupled multiscale non-linear buffering system

    Abstract This study aims to investigate the complicated dynamical HCO− 3 /C O2 buffering system using fractional operators which is not been investigated yet. We consider a new fractional mathematical model in the frame of fractional-order differential equations. In the proposed fractional-order model, we apply the Caputo-Fabrizio fractional operator with an exponential kernel. Then to solve the derived system of fractional equations, we suggest a quadratic numerical technique and prove its stability and convergence. Also, accurate control for the proposed system is considered. Behaviors of the approximate solutions for the considered model are provided by choosing different values of fractional orders along with integer order. Each figure manifests and compares the numerical solutions under selected orders. Figures, show how the results can be affected by changing the fractional orders

    Comparison of clinical-related characteristics of endodontic patients before and during the COVİD-19 pandemic

    Abstract Objective: To compare patient-related and clinical-related characteristics of endodontic patients, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The study population comprised 506 patients (teeth: n=674) aged 13–81 years who attended undergraduate dental clinics in the Endodontics Department of the Faculty of Dentistry at Biruni University for endodontic treatment. Patient-related and clinical-related data were compared at two time intervals: before the first COVID-19 case was reported in Turkey and after the first COVID-19 case was reported in Turkey Results: There were no significant differences in terms of age and sex of the patients attending the clinics before versus during the pandemic. The incidence of reported pain before the pandemic was significantly lower than that reported during the pandemic (p=0.041). Periapical health before the pandemic was significantly better than that during the pandemic (p<0.001). The frequency of a diagnosis of asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis before the pandemic was significantly higher than that during the pandemic (p<0.001). The frequency of a diagnosis of asymptomatic apical periodontitis was higher during the pandemic than before the pandemic (p<0.001). Conclusion: These results may be explained by patients, other than those with severe symptoms, not wishing to attend endodontics clinics during the pandemic due to concerns about contracting the virus and passing the infection to family members

    Solving the fractional Jaulent–Miodek system via a modified Laplace decomposition method

    In this paper, the time-fractional Jaulent–Miodek system associated with energy-dependent Schrödinger potential is solved by the modified Laplace decomposition method. The Caputo fractional derivative is considered throughout the paper. The attained solutions using the method are analyzed and compared with the solutions of the existing studies in the literature to demonstrate the efficacy and applicability of the technique. The results are summarized in the tables and figures. We use Mathematica for all computations and figures in the paper. The method is competitive, easily computable, and adaptable to solving various nonlinear problems

    Analysis of the effects of ha-330 hemo adsorption column application on mortality and morbidity of adult patients with sepsis in general intensive care unit

    Sepsis is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in critical care units. The objective of this study is to evaluate if using the HA-330 Sepsis Adsorption Column in the intensive care unit reduces mortality and morbidity in patients with sepsis. This study was designed as a retrospective study evaluating demographic and laboratory parameters in the General Intensive Care Unit. The study involved 200 sepsis patients who were followed in the critical care unit between June 2019- December 2020 and were treated with the HA-330 Sepsis Adsorption Column. The length of hemoperfusion in patients who died was statistically significantly longer than in patients who recovered. The mean lactate and the hemoperfusion time/day value had a weak but significant negative correlation. In the recovery and death observations, the improvements in repeated C-reactive protein and Procalcitonin measurements were statistically significantly different. The differences in repeated pH and lactate measurements in the recovery and mortality observations were statistically identical, according to the observations. Sepsis-related deaths are a severe issue in critical care units. HA-330 Sepsis Adsorption Column, it can be thought that it can be an inexpensive, useful, and effective method that can be used in the prognosis of the patients. In antibiotic-resistant sepsis, hemoperfusion may be recommended

    Influence of 3D analysis software on measured deviations of CAD-CAM resin crowns from virtual design file: an in-vitro study

    Objectives: To evaluate a nonmetrology-grade and a metrology-grade 3D analysis software when measuring the deviations of computer-aided-design/ computer-aided-manufacturing (CAD-CAM) fabricated crowns from the virtual design file. Materials and Methods: A right first molar on a mandibular dentate model was prepared and scanned with an intraoral scanner, i500 (Medit). A complete coverage crown was designed in standard tessellation language (STL) format and 20 resin crowns were fabricated with CAD-CAM. The crowns were then digitized using the same intraoral scanner (test-scans). Root mean square (RMS) method was used to evaluate the deviations between the test-scans and the design file of the crowns on 3 surfaces (overall, external, and internal) using a metrology-grade, Geomagic Control X (3D Systems) and a nonmetrology-grade, Medit Link (Medit) software. The data were analyzed with Welch two-sample t-tests to compare two software for the non-inferiority of the nonmetrology-grade software with a 50 µm threshold and the potential superiority of the metrology-grade software (α = 0.05). Results: The Welch two-sample t-tests for the non-inferiority analysis showed that the differences between the nonmetrology-grade and the metrology-grade software were below the threshold of 50 µm for each surface tested (p <0.001). The differences between the two-tested software were nonsignificant for each surface analyzed when superiority was considered (p ≥.194). Conclusion: The nonmetrology-grade software performed similar to the metrology-grade software when analyzing the deviations of CAD-CAM crowns. Therefore, the nonmetrology-grade 3D analysis software may be considered for the deviation measurements of similar restorations. Clinical Significance: The trueness of crowns after fabrication may affect their fit, and 3D analysis of trueness prior to the delivery appointment with the tested nonmetrology-grade software after fabrication may facilitate potential clinical adjustments and delivery of the crowns

    Dental anxiety and cardiovascular response changes in multiple implant surgery – an observational study

    Abstract Objective: The aim of the study is to observe the level of anxiety and its relationship with cardiovascular changes in each implant in the patients with a high number of implants applied in a single session. Methods: In the prospective observational study, 100 patients, who had undergone 4 or more implant surgeries in the same session electively, were included in the study. Demographic data of each patient were recorded. After Corah Dental Anxiety Scale (C-DAS) was applied to the patients 10 minutes before the surgery, standard heart rate (HR), saturation, systolic (SAP), and diastolic (DAP) blood pressure monitorization were performed and the measured values were recorded during surgery and 30 minutes after the end of the procedure, and the surgery period were recorded. Results: It was determined that the mean age of the cases was 52.0±11.7 and the number of implants was 5.8±1.5, and the surgery periodwas 53.7 ± 18 minutes. There was a positive correlation between HR and CDAS at all times and as the number of implants increased, SAP and DAP were added to this correlation (p <0.05). As the number of implants increased, HR, SAP and DAP also increased (p <0.05). As the surgery period increased, postoperative anxiety increased (p <0.05). Conclusion: It was found that anxiety levels of patients and accordingly the HR, SAP and DAP increased as the number of implants increased in the patients who underwent 4 or more implant surgeries in the same session

    Novel 1,2,4-triazoles derived from Ibuprofen: synthesis and in vitro evaluation of their mPGES-1 inhibitory and antiproliferative activity

    Abstract Abstract: Some novel triazole-bearing ketone and oxime derivatives were synthesized from Ibuprofen. In vitro cytotoxic activities of all synthesized molecules against five cancer lines (human breast cancer MCF-7, human lung cancer A549, human prostate cancer PC-3, human cervix cancer HeLa, and human chronic myelogenous leukemia K562 cell lines) were evaluated by MTT assay. In addition, mouse embryonic fibroblast cells (NIH/3T3) were also evaluated to determine the selectivity. Compounds 18, 36, and 45 were found to be the most cytotoxic, and their IC50 values were in the range of 17.46–68.76 µM, against the tested cancer cells. According to the results, compounds 7 and 13 demonstrated good anti-inflammatory activity against the microsomal enzyme prostaglandin E2 synthase-1 (mPGES-1) enzyme at IC50 values of 13.6 and 4.95 µM. The low cytotoxicity and non-mutagenity of these compounds were found interesting. Also, these compounds significantly prevented tube formation in angiogenesis studies. In conclusion, the anti-inflammatory and angiogenesis inhibitory activities of these compounds without toxicity suggested that they may be promising agents in anti-inflammatory treatment and they may be supportive agents for the cancer treatment.     On the examination of optical soliton pulses of Manakov system with auxiliary equation technique

    Purpose: This manuscript addresses to investigate the optical soliton solution of the Manakov model which governs soliton transmission technology by utilizing the auxiliary equation technique. Methodology: After obtaining the nonlinear ordinary differential equation form (NODE) of investigated nonlinear partial differential equation problem (NLPDE) with the complex wave transform (cWT), the serial form is suggested in accordance with the utilized auxiliary method, and after written in the NODE form, the linear algebraic system is formed and by aid of the any symbolic calculation package the unknown parameters are obtained. In order to gain the soliton solutions, the proposed series form, the solution functions of the method, and the cWT are brought together and it is checked that the obtained solutions satisfy the main equation. By considering the functions that satisfy the main equation as solutions, graphical presentations are made and interpreted in order to better understand the obtained results. Findings: By applying the effective auxiliary equation method, optical soliton pulse solutions such as bright, singular, V-shaped, periodic singular, periodic bright, periodic bright–dark have been obtained, and it has been shown that the method can be applied effectively for such equations. Originality: The auxiliary equation method has not been applied to the Manakov model and the V-shaped, periodic singular, periodic bright soliton pulse solutions have not been reported before

    The association between follicular fluid sialic acid levels, oocyte quality, and pregnancy rates

    Sialic acid residues perform important roles in both physiological and pathologic processes. Our aim was to measure the levels of sialic acid in the follicular fluid of women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) and to assess correlations between IVF parameters and sialic acid levels. All women meeting the inclusion criteria underwent gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist treatment and during oocyte retrieval, follicular fluids of mature follicles were collected and pooled for each patient. Correlation analysis was made between sialic acid levels and oocyte quality. Eighty-seven patients meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled. In terms of oocyte quality and sialic acid, follicular fluid total sialic acid (FF-TSA) levels positively correlated with germinal vesicle oocytes and metaphase I oocytes. In terms of clinical parameters, no correlation between sialic acid levels and body mass index, serum levels of hormones, duration of infertility, and the total dose of gonadotropins was observed. The mean FF-TSA was 86.1±35.19 mg/dl in the clinical pregnancy positive group and was 73.64±22.15 mg/dl in the clinical pregnancy negative group. FF-TSA levels positively correlated with immature oocytes. This can be either as part of the normal oocyte maturation or as a compensatory mechanism against reactive oxygen species during the oocyte maturation process

    Breather, kink and rogue wave solutions of Sharma-Tasso-Olver-like equation

    In this paper, we consider the Sharma-Tasso-Olver-Like equation (STOLE) describing the dynamical behaviour of nonlinear dispersive waves in inhomogeneous medium. By using the Hirota bilinear method, some new type of solitons like breather-wave, kink solitary wave and rogue wave, one-, two- and new three-wave solutions to the STOLE have been determined. These results are achieved and verifed by using the Maple software. The obtained results are new from the existing results. For the further explanation of these solutions, diferent kinds of graphs are also drawn. These solitons suggest that this method is efective, straight forward and reliable as compare to other methods
