Individuals with special needs receive education based on the same curriculum with their peers during inclusion practices. The education these individuals receive includes Turkish, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Music, Visual Arts, Foreign Language courses. Even if there are individualized education plans, these individuals may find it difficult to attend some classes. Inclusion students may need extra support as the teaching of vocabulary and concepts in foreign language lessons is quite intense. In the literature review, there are many studies in different disciplines related to inclusion and IEP preparation, but it is seen that there is a great lack of research on inclusion practices in foreign language education. In this study, the views and suggestions of foreign language teachers on the use of inclusion practices in foreign language lessons were examined. In the study, in which the phenomenological design was used, semi-structured interview questions were asked to foreign language teachers working in public and private schools, and the results obtained from the interviews were analyzed using descriptive analysis technique. In line with the data obtained as a result of the analysis, suggestions were made in order to support foreign language teachers and inclusion students

    No full text
Background: The literature regarding clinical olfaction, olfactory loss, and olfactory dysfunction has expanded rapidly over the past two decades, with an exponential rise in the past year. There is substantial variability in the quality of this literature and a need to consolidate and critically review the evidence. It is with that aim that we have gathered experts from around the world to produce this International Consensus on Allergy and Rhinology: Olfaction (ICAR:O). Methods: Using previously described methodology, specific topics were developed relating to olfaction. Each topic was assigned a literature review, evidence-based review, or evidence-based review with recommendations format as dictated by available evidence and scope within the ICAR:O document. Following iterative reviews of each topic, the ICAR:O document was integrated and reviewed by all authors for final consensus. Results: The ICAR:O document reviews nearly 100 separate topics within the realm of olfaction, including diagnosis, epidemiology, disease burden, diagnosis, testing, etiology, treatment, and associated pathologies. Conclusion: This critical review of the existing clinical olfaction literature provides much needed insight and clarity into the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with olfactory dysfunction, while also clearly delineating gaps in our knowledge and evidence base that we should investigate further

Background/aim: This study aimed to investigate pregnancy frequency and evaluate the factors affecting live births in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Materials and methods: Female HD patients whose pregnancy was retrospectively reported between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2019. The duration of HD, primary disease, and the information on whether the pregnancy resulted in abortion, stillbirth, or live birth, whether the HD duration was prolonged after diagnosing the pregnancy and whether it accompanied preeclampsia were recorded. Results: In this study, we reached 9038 HD female patients’ data in the study. A total of 235 pregnancies were detected in 145 patients. The mean age was 35.42 (35 ± 7.4) years. The mean age at first gestation was 30.8 ± 6.5 years. The average birth week was 32 (28 –36) weeks. A total of 53.8% (no = 78) of the patients had live birth, 51.7% (no = 70) had at least one abortion in the first 20 weeks, and 13.1% (no = 19) had at least one stillbirth after 20 weeks. The rate of patients’ increased numbers of dialysis sessions during pregnancy was 71.7%. The abortion rate was 22.4% in those with increased HD sessions, whereas 79.3% in those not increased HD sessions (p < 0.001). Live birth frequency was 67.2% in the increased HD sessions group and 3.4% in those who did not differ in HD sessions (p < 0.001). Conclusion: For the first time, we reported pregnancy outcomes in HD female patients, covering all regions of Turkey. It has been observed that; increasing the number of HD sessions in dialysis patients will decrease fetal and maternal complications and increase live birth rates

Child z-score value was found to be statistically positively correlated with 'food enthusiasm', 'emotional overeating', 'enjoying food', and 'positive social behavior' score from PSBS-TF sub-dimensions (p<0.05). A statistically significant but negative correlation was found with the child z-score value, 'overt/physical aggression' and 'depressive affect' scores, which are sub-dimensions of PSBS-TF (p<0.05). A statistically significant and positive relationship was found between the 'drinking passion' score, which is the sub-dimension of the child eating behavior scale, and the 'positive social behavior' score, which is the sub-dimension of the Preschool Social Behavior Scale - Teacher Form (p<0.05). It has been observed in the studies that some behaviors acquired during childhood continue in the later years of life and the basis of some problems stems from the data related to childhood. For this reason, it is thought that more studies on nutrition and social behaviors in childhood will contribute to the future

BDNF Val66Met polymorphism is associated with negative symptoms in early-onset schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders

    No full text
Background and Objectives: To investigate the clinical characteristics of adolescents with early-onset full psychotic disorders either with Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) Val66Met (rs6265) or DRD2/ANKK1 Taq1A (rs1800497) polymorphisms. Method: 101 cases with early-onset schizophrenia (EOS) or other psychotic spectrum disorders (SSD) and 150 healthy controls were included in the current study. Using the Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS), patient subgroups were compared for their psychotic symptoms, age-onset, duration of untreated illness, and family history of psychiatric disorders. The real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was implemented for genotyping procedures. Results: Study groups and patient subgroups were similar regarding their sociodemographic characteristics (16.4 ± 2.6 years, 62.2% male for all participants). Results did not reveal any difference between patients and healthy controls for DRD2/ANKK1 Taq1A and BDNF Val66Met genotypes. Patients with A1A2 (Gly/Lys) allele reported higher rates of substance use compared to A2A2 (Glu/Glu) counterparts. Other clinical variables were found similar. EOS/SSD group with Val66Met heterozygote allele revealed lower levels of negative symptoms than Val/Val homozygotes. Conversely, the age onset of full psychotic disorder, total positive symptom score, and total general psychopathology score of PANSS were found comparable between Val/Met and Val/Val groups. In the logistic regression model, Glu/Lys genotypes remained significant for the presence of substance use. Conclusion: The interaction between substance use and the DRD2 gene should be investigated for the development of early-onset psychotic disorders. BDNF Val66Met polymorphism also could be a disease-modifying factor for the presence of negative symptoms

    No full text
In this manuscript, the aim is to prove a multiple fixed point (FP) result for partially ordered s-distance spaces under (theta,phi,psi)-type weak contractive condition. The result will generalize some well-known results in literature such as coupled FP (Guo and Lakshmikantham, 1987), triple fixed point (Berinde and Borcut, 2011), and quadruple FP results (Karapinar, 2011). Moreover, to validate the result, an application for the existence of solution of a system of integral equations is also provided

Immunostimulant/cytotoxic effect of cardamom extract with adjuvant combination on breast cancer cell line

    No full text
Abstract Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women and is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths. It is caused by the uncontrolled proliferation of cells in the breast tissue as a result of various factors. For the treatment of breast cancer, chemical drugs are utilized generally. However, chemical cancer drugs have a cytotoxic effect on healthy cells. That causes dose limitation and a decrease in the effectiveness of the treatment. For this reason, herbal-based studies in the treatment of breast cancer become popular day by day. In the literature, the anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties of many plants have been analyzed and their effectiveness has been proven. Diindolylmethane (DIM) and indole-3-carbinol (I3C) molecules found in Elettaria cardamomum (E. cardamomum, Cardamom) plant, reduce metastasis, tumorigenesis, immunomodulation. It has been shown in the literature that they play a role in preventing the development of breast cancer via inducing apoptotic pathways in the breast cancer cell. Herein, it is aimed to prevent breast cancer development by applying cardamom extract and cardamom Extract-Freund's adjuvant combination to THP-1 human macrophage cell line and MCF-7 breast cancer cell line and to increase the efficiency of cardamom extract with the use of an adjuvant. As a result, it was determined that the cytotoxic effect of the cardamom Extract-Freund’s adjuvant combination on breast cancer cells was higher than the alone cardamom extract application. At the same time, it was determined that the toxic effect of Freund's adjuvant could be reduced by increasing the plant extract concentration

ABSTRACT Investigation of Congenital Agenesis of Third Molar Teeth in Children Living in Erzincan Region Background: In this study, it was planned to retrospectively determine the congenital agenesis of the third molars in 1460 panoramic films of pediatric patients in the Erzincan region and to examine the distribution according to gender and location in the jaws. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University, Faculty of Dentistry from June 2018 - January 2020. 1460 patients(752 females and 708 males) between the ages of 10-14 were studied with panoramic radiograph to assess for agenesis of mandibular third molars. Statistical data were analyzed in SPSS 22 program. The Pearson chi-square test was performed for determining the prevalence of congenitally agenesis of the third molar teeth. Results: The prevalence of third molar teeth agenesis was 35.6 %. Total number of patients with single missing third molar was 222(15.5 %). The ratio of the third molar agenesis for females(38 %) was higher than that for males(33%). Significantly higher number of third-molar teeth were found to be missing from the maxilla(57%) than the mandible(43%). 529 patients(54%) had agenesis only on the right side and 469 patients(46%) had agenesis only on the left. Conclusion: The agenesis of the third molars was investigated in pediatric patients living in Erzincan province and its prevalence was found 35.6%. Congenital deficiency of the third molar teeth is more common in women, while it has been observed more in the maxilla than in the mandible. More comprehensive studies can be done by increasing the number of individuals examined.ÖZ Erzincan Bölgesinde Yaşayan Çocuklarda Üçüncü Molar Dişlerin Konjenital Eksikliğinin Araştırılması Amaç: Bu çalışmada, Erzincan bölgesindeki çocuk hastalar ait 1460 panoramik filmde üçüncü büyük azı dişlerinin konjenital eksikliklerinin retrospektif olarak belirlenmesi, cinsiyete ve çenelerdeki yerine göre dağılımının incelenmesi planlanmıştır.

A scopus - based bibliometric analysis of global tuberculosis publications: 1849-2020

    Get PDF
OBJECTIVE: Tuberculosis continues to become a serious public-health concern in many countries despite efforts to prevent and control global tuberculosis infections. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study aims to present bibliometric analysis of the period 1849-2020 tuberculosis publications that are published by global researchers and indexed in the Scopus database. Although many studies have been carried out on tuberculosis, there is no study that performs bibliometric analysis of publications in this field in such a wide range of dates. Tuberculosis publications searched in the Scopus database between the period 1849-2020 were analyzed. Data on tuberculosis were presented by analyzing the number of publications, the language of publication, the countries that contribute the most to the literature, the most active institutions, the most cited publications, active authors and active journals, using appropriate quantitative and qualitative bibliometric indicators. RESULTS: 263,234 articles, published between 1849 and 2020 and searched in the Scopus database, were evaluated. The most articles (n= 8.344) were published in 2020. A total of 112,121 articles were published between 2001 and 2020. The most used publication language in the articles was English (62.48%), followed by Russian (7.25%). The country that contributed the most to the literature was the United States (13.81%), followed by India (7.18%). 3.9% of the articles were published in the journal “Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases”. CONCLUSION: The results of the present bibliometric study are expected to shed light on the planning of future tuberculosis studies and the development of health policies toward tuberculosis. Research output is low in some countries, which should make larger investments in international and national collaborative research projects in the field of tuberculosis. If doing so, many countries of limited source will benefit from research that offer novel diagnostic and screening technology of tuberculosis
