Construct validity and ıtem discrimination of the diabetes foot self-care behavior scale in patients with Type-2 diabetes
Abstract : Background: This study was planned to test the construct validity of the Turkish version of the Diabetes Foot Self-Care Behavior Scale (DFSBS) in patients with type-2 diabetes.
Method: 119 type-2 diabetic patients (57 women; 62 men) with a mean age of 53.3±4.7 years were included in this study. The forward-backward translation of the DFSBS was conducted for translation from English to Turkish according to the methodology outlined by Beaton. The World Health Organization Well-being Questionnaire-22 (WBQ-22) and Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) were administered to the participants along with the DFSBS.
Results: For convergent construct validity analysis, the correlations between the DFSBS score and WBQ-22 (r=0.639, p<0.001) and NHP total score (r=-0.200, p<0.029) were calculated with the Pearson correlation coefficient. The discriminative construct validity analysis showed that there is no difference between men and women in terms of scale scores. The exploratory factor analysis results showed that 75% of the total variance is explainable by two factors. The fit between the factor structure of the Turkish version and the original version was adequate as shown by the confirmatory factor analysis. Additionally, item discriminative power analysis showed that all items were able to discriminate ‘high’ and ‘low’ responses.
Conclusion: The DFSBS is a rare scale that can assess and measure diabetic foot self-care behaviors in a person-centered approach with satisfactory construct validity. This scale can be used to assess self-care behaviors, plan interventions and education programs with diabetic foot clients
Evaluation of the relationship between knowledge level and anxiety level of cancer patients with port catheter
ABSTRACT
This study was carried out in a descriptive-sectional type to evaluate the relationship between the level of knowledge about the catheter and the level of anxiety in cancer patients with port catheters. The sample of the research, at İstanbul a hospital consisted of 136 patients who were treated in the outpatient chemotherapy unit. “Patient Information Form”, “Patient Information Form for Port Catheterization” and “Beck Anxiety Scale” were used to collect data. The analysis of the data obtained from the research was performed using the SPSS 21 program. The mean age of the patients participating in the study was 59.70±12.07 years, 57.4% were male and 52.9% were primary school graduates. 48.5% of the participants were cancer patients for 1-3 years and the majority (80.1%) were receiving chemotherapy. 15.4% of the patients stated that they received training before the port catheterization application, the training was mostly (9.6%) given by the physician and they evaluated their general health status as good (68.4%). In the study, the mean score of the “Patient Information Form for Port Catheterization” was 20.11±2.43, the mean score of the “Beck Anxiety Scale” was 8.16±4.84. It was found that there was a significant difference between the port catheterization knowledge score according to marital status (p < .05). In this study, no significant relationship was found between the anxiety score and the port catheterization knowledge score (r= 0.131; p= .128). As a result, although the level of knowledge of the patients about the port catheterization procedure was good, it was determined that they experienced mild anxiety. It is recommended that nurses should play an active role in the education of patients with port catheterization and personal characteristics and variables related to disease status should be considered in patient educationÖZET Bu çalışma port kateteri olan kanserli hastalarda katetere ilişkin bilgi düzeyi ile anksiyete düzeyi arasındaki ilişkiyi değerlendirmek amacıyla tanımlayıcı-kesitsel tipte gerçekleştirildi. Araştırmanın örneklemini, İstanbul’da bir hastanede ayaktan kemoterapi ünitesinde tedavi gören 136 hasta oluşturdu. Verilerin toplanmasında “Hasta Bilgi Formu”, “Port Kateterizasyonu Hasta Bilgi Formu” ve “Beck Anksiyete Ölçeği” kullanıldı. Araştırmadan elde edilen verilerin analizi SPSS 21 programı kullanılarak yapıldı. Çalışmaya katılan hastaların yaş ortalaması 59.70±12.07 olup %57.4’ü erkek ve %52.9’u ilkokul mezunudur. Katılımcıların %48.5’i 1-3 yıldır kanser hastasıdır ve büyük çoğunluğu (%80.1) kemoterapi almaktadır. Hastaların %15.4’ü port kateterizasyonu uygulaması öncesinde eğitim aldığını, eğitimin çoğunlukla (%9.6) hekim tarafından verildiğini belirtti ve genel sağlık durumlarını iyi (%68.4) olarak değerlendirdi. Çalışmada, “Port Kateterizasyonu Hasta Bilgi Formu” puan ortalaması 20.11±2.43, “Beck Anksiyete Ölçeği” puanı ortalaması 8.16±4.84 olarak belirlendi. Araştırmada medeni duruma göre port kateterizasyonu bilgi puanı arasında anlamlı farklılık olduğu bulundu (p < .05). Bu çalışmada, anksiyete puanı ile port kateterizasyonu bilgi puanı arasında anlamlı ilişkiye rastlanmadı r= .131; p= .128). Sonuç olarak, hastaların port kateterizasyonu işlemine ilişkin bilgi düzeyi iyi olmakla birlikte hafif düzeyde anksiyete yaşadıkları görüldü. Dynamics on novel wave structures of non-linear Schrödinger equation via extended hyperbolic function method
Abstract
In this study, our focus is on the construction of novel soliton solutions of non-linear Schrödinger equation with parabolic law and non-local law non-linearities via new extended hyperbolic function method. The acquired solutions are original and could be helpful in the field of nonlinear optics, fluid dynamics, and plasma physics. From these outcomes, it is believed that this method is a promising technique to handle a wide variety of such type of equations. For physical understanding and better realization of our constructed solutions, some of the obtained solutions under appropriate parameters are demonstrated by 2D and 3D plots. Analysis discloses that the proposed scheme is consistent and can be applied to more advanced models in engineering and physics
The combined use of carbon nanotubes with synthetic ceramics enhances posterolateral fusion: An experimental study in a rat spinal fusion model
Purpose The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efectiveness of carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/ HA–tricalcium phosphate (TCP) composite in a posterolateral spinal fusion model. Methods At frst, CNTs and CNTs/HA–TCP composites were prepared. Twenty adult male Sprague Dawley rats were randomized into four groups with fve rats in each group. Decortication was carried out in standard manner in all animals. Group 1 (only decortication), group 2 (CNTs), group 3 (HA–TCP) and group 4 (CNTs/HA–TCP) were formed. Eight weeks later, all animals were killed and obtained fusion segments were evaluated by manual palpation, histomorphometry and micro-computed tomography (mCT). Results In all evaluations, highest fusion values were obtained in Group 4. In mCT investigations, bone volume/ tissue volume (BV/TV) ratio was found to be signifcantly higher in composite group (group 4) only compared to ceramic group (group 3) (p<0.001). Although in Group 2, in which only CNTs were used, the ratio was found to be statistically signifcantly higher than group 1(p<0.001), the diference was not considered as signifcant in terms of fusion and in addition in group 2, CNTs were completely surrounded by fbrous tissue, i.e., no bone formation was observed. Conclusions The CNTs/HA–TCP composite is a promising synthetic bone graft substitute for spinal fusion. Although CNTs are inadequate in producing spinal fusion when they are used alone, due to their high biocompatibility due to their high biocompatibility, and multiple efect on bone regeneration, they seem to increase fusion rates signifcantly when they are used in combination with ceramic-based synthetic grafts
Self-efficacy and social support as predictors of social cohesion in gifted individuals

sosyal destek düzeylerinin kişisel bilgi formunda yer alan değişkenler açısından
incelemek ve diğer iki değişkenin sosyal uyumu yordama gücünü belirlemektir.
Araştırmaya 2021-2022 yıllarında İstanbul’daki Bilim ve Sanat Merkezlerine giden
361 öğrenci dahil edilmiştir. Öğrencilere araştırmacı tarafından oluşturulan Kişisel
Bilgi Formu, Aydoğdu ve Gürsoy’un (2020) geliştirdiği "Sosyal Uyum Ölçeği", Telef
’in (2011) Türkçeye uyarladığı "Çocuklar İçin Öz-Yeterlik Ölçeği" ve Cırık’ın (2010)
Türkçeye uyarladığı "Çocuk ve Ergenler için Sosyal Destek Değerlendirme Ölçeği"
uygulanmıştır. Ölçek ve formlardan elde edilen veriler SPSS 24 programı kullanılarak
analiz edilmiştir.
Araştırma sonucuna göre sosyal uyum ile kişisel bilgi formundaki demografik
özellik değişkenlerine göre anlamlı farklılık olmadığı görülmüştür. Öz-yeterlik ile
demografik özellik açısından fark analizine ilişkin bulgular incelendiğinde
öğrencilerin sosyal öz-yeterlikleri cinsiyet, kardeş sayısı ve anne eğitim düzeyi
değişkenlerine göre anlamlı farklılık bulunmuştur. Sosyal destek ile demografik
özellik açısından yapılan analizlere ilişkin bulgulara bakıldığında öğrencilerin sosyal
desteği (önem) cinsiyet faktörüne göre fark görülürken sosyal desteği (sıklık)
BİLSEM’de geçirilen yıl, kardeş sayısı ve doğum sırasına göre farklılık görülmektedir.

This study aims to examine the social adaptation, self-efficacy, and social
support levels of gifted students in terms of the variables in the personal information
form and to determine the predictive power of the other two variables. 361 students
who went to Science and Art Centers in Istanbul in 2021-2022 were included in the
research. Personal Information Form created by the researcher for the students, the
"Social Cohesion Scale" developed by Aydoğdu and Gürsoy (2020), the "Self-Efficacy
Scale for Children" adapted to Turkish by Telef (2011), and the "Child Efficiency
Scale" adapted to Turkish by Cırık (2010). and Social Support Evaluation Scale for
Adolescents" was applied. The data obtained from the scales and forms were analyzed
using the SPSS 24 program.
According to the results of the research, it was seen that there was no significant
difference between social adaptation and demographic characteristics in the personal
information form. When the findings related to the different analyses in terms of selfefficacy and demographic characteristics were examined, a significant difference was
found according to the variables of social self-efficacy of the students, gender, number
of siblings, and mother's education level. When we look at the findings of the analyzes
made in terms of social support and demographic characteristics, there is a difference
according to the gender factor of the students' social support (importance), while the
social support (frequency) differs according to the year spent in BILSEM, the number
of siblings and birth order. As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined
that students' self-efficacy and social support were predictors of social cohesio
Analysis of the fractional differential equations using two different methods
Abstract: Numerical methods play an important role in modern mathematical research, especially studying the symmetry analysis and obtaining the numerical solutions of fractional differential equation. In the current work, we use two numerical schemes to deal with fractional differential equations. In the first case, a combination of the group preserving scheme and fictitious time integration method (FTIM) is considered to solve the problem. Firstly, we applied the FTIM role, and then the GPS came to integrate the obtained new system using initial conditions. Figure and tables containing the solutions are provided. The tabulated numerical simulations are compared with the reproducing kernel Hilbert space method (RKHSM) as well as the exact solution. The methodology of RKHSM mainly relies on the right choice of the reproducing kernel functions. The results confirm that the FTIM finds the true solution. Additionally, these numerical results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed methods
Dispersive optical solitons with differential group delay having multiplicative white noise by ito calculus
Abstract
The current paper recovers dispersive optical solitons in birefringent fibers that are modeled by the Schrodinger-Hirota equation with differential group delay and white noise. Ito Calculus conducts the preliminary analysis. The (G'/G)-expansion approach and the enhanced Kudryashov's scheme gave way to a wide spectrum of soliton solutions with the white noise component reflected in the phase of the soliton
Effect of SGLT-2 inhibitors as an add-on therapy to metformin on P wave indices and atrial electromechanics in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients
Abstract
IntroductionSodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors have been shown to reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) occurrence in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). In this prospective study, we aimed to analyze the effect of SGLT-2 inhibitors as an add-on therapy to metformin on P wave indices and atrial electromechanics in patients with type 2 DM. MethodsA total of 144 patients enrolled. Electrocardiographic indices were recorded on admission and at 3rd and 6th month of the combination therapy. P wave indices and atrial electromechanical coupling intervals were measured and compared. ResultsAlthough decrease in P wave dispersion (62.78 +/- 9.59 vs. 53.62 +/- 10.65; p = .002) became significant at 6th month of combination therapy, significant decreases in P wave terminal force in V-1 (37.79 +/- 3.45 vs. 32.01 +/- 5.74; p = .035), left atrial volume index (35.87 +/- 6.57 vs. 31.33 +/- 7.31; p = .042), left sided intra-atrial electromechanical delay (32.09 +/- 9.17 vs. 27.61 +/- 8.50; p = .016), right sided intra-atrial electromechanical delay (31.82 +/- 4.92 vs. 27.65 +/- 8.05; p = .042), and interatrial electromechanical delay (29.65 +/- 7.52 vs. 25.96 +/- 4.30; p = .044) were seen as early as 3rd month of treatment. Besides, there was no statistically significant difference between Empagliflozin and Dapagliflozin subgroups in terms of mentioned parameters. ConclusionSGLT-2 inhibitors as an add-on therapy to metformin were shown to significantly improve P wave indices and atrial electromechanics in type 2 DM patients as early as the 3rd month of treatment. It was thought that this may be one of the underlying mechanisms of the decrease in the frequency of AF with the use of SGLT2 inhibitors
Chirped periodic waves and solitary waves for a generalized derivative resonant nonlinear Schrödinger equation with cubic–quintic nonlinearity
Abstract
We investigate the self-similar propagation of one-dimensional optical waves through optical fibers exhibiting self-steepening, dispersion, cubic–quintic nonlinearity and resonant. A generalized derivative resonant nonlinear Schrödinger model with cubic–quintic nonlinear medium governing the evolution of optical pulses is studied, and analytical solutions of the model are extracted together with different material parameters. A full range of solitons and periodic wave solutions leading with nonlinear chirp is obtained. In long wave limit, chirped localized waves including solitary waves are obtained in a continuous wave background. The model exhibiting distributed parameters in inhomogeneous medium is also examined via similarity transformation method. Analytical self-similar chirped solitary beams are identified, which have quadratic phase variation in time suggesting linearity of associated frequency of chirping. The chirping ensures interesting features, and it can relevantly control the self-similar structure and its dynamical behavior. The applicability is demonstrated by choosing a periodic-distributed fiber amplification system
Physical activity level and sedentary behavior in patients with bronchiectasis: A systematic review of outcome measures and determinants
Abstract
Background: Changes in respiratory functions negatively affect the physical activity (PA) levels of patients with bronchiectasis. Therefore, detecting the most frequently used assessments of PA is essential as determining related factors and improving PA. This review study aimed to investigate the PA levels, compare levels with the recommended PA guidelines, determine the outcome measurements of PA and examine the determinants related to PA in patients with bronchiectasis.Method: This review was conducted using databases of MEDLINE, Web of Science, and PEDro. The searched terms were the variations of the words "bronchiectasis" and "physical activity". Full texts of cross-sectional studies and clinical trials were included. Two authors independently screened the studies for inclusion.Result: The initial search identified 494 studies. A hundred articles were selected for full-text review. Following the application of the eligibility process, 15 articles were included. Twelve studies used activity monitors and five studies used questionnaires. The studies that used activity monitors presented daily step counts. The mean number of steps ranged between 4657 and 9164 for adult patients. It was approximately 5350 steps/day in older patients. One study investigated children's PA level reported 8229 steps/day. The functional exercise capacity, dyspnea, FEV1 and, quality of life as related determinants with PA have been reported in the studies. Conclusion: PA levels of patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis were lower than the recommended levels. The objective measurements were frequently used in PA assessment. In further studies, it is needed to investigate the related determinants of PA in patients
