Re-functioning within the scope of conservation awareness in interior architecture education: The case of Paşalimanı Flour Factory
ÖzetYeniden işlevlendirmemimarların, iç mimarların, tasarımcıların mevcut yapıların korunması bilincine sahip olmaları açısından en önemli çalışma alanlarından biridir. İşlevini yitirmiş kültürel öneme sahip tarihi yapıların kent içinde hayat bulması, yeniden işlevlendirme ile mümkündür. Bu doğrultuda, kültür varlıklarının korunabilmesi ve gelecek kuşaklara aktarılabilmesi amacıyla Biruni Üniversitesi İç Mimarlık ve Çevre Tasarımı, 2021-2022 Bahar Dönemi, İç Mimari Proje IV dersinin konusu geçici konaklama tasarımı olarak belirlenmiş ve proje alanı olarak İstanbul’da yer alan Üsküdar Paşalimanı Un Fabrikası verilmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında öğrencilerden, kent içinde atıl bir halde bulunan yapıyı, bulunduğu bölgenin kültürel ve sosyal gereksinimlerini gözeterek, geçici konaklama işleviyle tasarlamaları beklenmiştir. Proje stüdyosunda başarı göstermiş 21 öğrenci projesi içinden, 10 proje çalışmanın rastlantısal olmayan benzeşik örneklemini oluşturmak üzere seçilmiştir. Çalışmada, çift eksenli metodoloji kullanılmış ve nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden “nedensel karşılaştırma modeli” kullanılarak, belirlenen değerlendirme ölçütlerine, öğrenci çalışmalarının hangi ölçüde yaklaştıkları tablo üzerinden aktarılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, öğrenci çalışmaları değerlendirildiğinde, hem yapının bütünlüğünü gözeten hem de çağdaş öneriler getiren farklı tasarım yaklaşımlarının geliştirildiği ve koruma kavramının öneminin büyük ölçüde benimsendiği görülmüştür.Abstract Re-functioning is one of the most important fields of study for architects, interior architects, and designers to have an awareness of the protection of existing cultural buildings. It is possible for historical buildings of cultural importance that have lost their function to come to life in the city through re-functioning. In this direction, to protect cultural assets and transfer them to future generations, the subject of Biruni University Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, 2021-2022 Spring Semester, Interior Architecture Project IV course was determined as temporary accommodation design and Üsküdar Paşalimanı Flour Factory which is located in Istanbul/Turkey was given as the project area. Within the scope of the study, the students were expected to design the building, which is idle in the city, with a temporary accommodation function, taking into account the cultural and social needs of the region. Out of 21 student projects that were successful in the project studio, 10 projects were selected to form the non-random analog sample of the study. In the study, a biaxial methodology was used and the extent to which the student projects approached the evaluation criteria determined by using the “causal comparison model”, one of the quantitative research methods, was presented in a table. As a result, when the student works are evaluated, it is seen that different design approaches that both consider the integrity of the building and bring contemporary suggestions have been developed and the importance of the concept of conservation has been adopted to a great extent
Evaluation of sleep quality and affecting factors of nurses working in the emergency department
Özet Uyku, ruhsal ve bedensel sağlığımız için gerekli olan temel ihtiyaçlarımızın başında gelmektedir. Bütün meslek gruplarında vardiyalı olarak çalışmak uyku ve uyku kalitesinde düzensizlikler ortaya çıkarabilmektedir. Acil serviste vardiyalı olarak çalışan hemşirelerin de uyku ve uyku kalitesinde düzensizlikler görülebilmektedir. Bu çalışma, acil serviste çalışmakta olan hemşirelerin uyku kalitesi ve uyku kalitesine etki eden faktörleri değerlendirilmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma Eylül 2022-Kasım 2022 tarihleri arasında, gönüllülük esasına dayanarak 111 acil servis hemşiresine kişisel bilgi formu ve Pitssburgh Uyku Kalitesi Indeksi (PUKİ) ile anket formları dağıtılarak kendilerinin doldurması istenmiştir. Verilerin analizinde; Mann Whitney U Testi, Shapiro Wilk Testi, Tukey Testi, Kruskal Wallis Testi kullanılmıştır. İstatistiksel anlamlılık için p 0,05). Sadece gece çalışan hemşirelerin, "Pittsburgh Uyku Kalitesi İndeksi" puan ortalamalarının, gece-gündüz değişen vardiya sistemi ile çalışan ve sadece gündüz çalışan hemşirelere göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede yüksek olduğu belirlendi (p 0.05). It was determined that the "Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index" score averages of the nurses working only at night were statistically significantly higher than the nurses working with day-night shifts and working only during the day (p<0.05). It was determined that the mean scores of the "Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index" of the nurses with 10-12 patients per nurse in the working shift were statistically significantly higher than the other nurses (p<0.05). As a result, it was determined that the sleep quality of the nurses working in the emergency room was moderate and poor
Artifact-removed quantitative analysis of choriocapillaris flow voids
Abstract
Objectives: To investigate choriocapillaris flow voids (FV) with a new optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) image processing strategy that can eliminate artifacts caused by vitreous opacities, sub-retinal pigment epithelium fluid and deposits, and subretinal fluid (SRF) by thresholding the en-face OCT image of the outer retina.
Materials and methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients with drusen and patients with active central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). FV number (FVn), average area (FVav), and maximum area (FVmax) and the percentage of nonperfused choriocapillaris area (PNPCA) obtained using the proposed strategy were compared with those obtained by removing only artifacts caused by the superficial capillary plexus (SCP).
Results: The SRF group included 21 eyes with active CSC and the drusen group included 29 eyes with nonexudative age-related macular degeneration. FVav, FVmax, FVn, and PNPCA obtained using the algorithm were significantly lower than those obtained by removing only SCP-related artefacts in both groups (all p<0.05). The algorithm was also able to remove 96.9% of artifacts secondary to vitreous opacities and all artifacts secondary to serous pigment epithelial detachments.
Conclusion: Choriocapillaris nonperfusion areas on OCTA images may be overestimated in eyes with RPE abnormalities and SRF due to artifacts. These artifact areas on choriocapillaris OCTA images can be removed using thresholded images of the outer retina en-face OCT scans. Our new artifact-removal strategy is useful in the assessment of choriocapillaris FV in eyes with SRF, drusen, drusen-like deposits, and pigment epithelial detachment
Periodontal plastik cerrahinin yaşam kalitesi ve dentin hassasiyeti üzerine etkisinin uzun dönem değerlendirilmesi
Amaç: Bu çalışmada, bağ doku grefti ile birlikte koronale kaydırılan flep operasyonunun yaşam kalitesi
ve dentin hassasiyeti üzerine etkilerinin uzun dönem değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem:
Çalışmaya, sistemik olarak sağlıklı, sigara içmeyen, anterior veya premolar bukkal bölgede tek bir dişte
Cairo Tip 1 veya Tip 2 dişeti çekilmesi bulunan 12 birey dahil edildi. İlgili dişlere bağ doku grefti ve
koronale kaydırılan flep operasyonu uygulandı. Tüm bireylerde operasyondan önce ve 1 yıl sonra alıcı
bölgede plak indeksi (PI), sondalamada kanama (SK), klinik ataşman seviyesi (KAS), dişeti çekilme
miktarı (DÇM) ve genişliği (DÇG) ve keratinize doku miktarı (KDM) değerleri kaydedildi.
Operasyondan 1 yıl sonra elde edilen kök kapanma oranları (KKO) hesaplandı. Başlangıçta ve
operasyondan 1 ay, 3 ay ve 1 yıl sonra Ağız Sağlığı Etki Profili-14 (OHIP-14TR) ölçeği kullanılarak
yaşam kalitesi değerlendirildi. Dentin hassasiyeti ise aynı zaman dilimlerinde pozitif/negatif şeklinde
kaydedildi. Veriler istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilip anlamlılık p<0,05 olarak kabul edildi. Bulgular:
1. yılda PI, SK, KAS, DÇM ve DÇG’de istatistiksel olarak anlamlı azalma; KDM’de ise istatistiksel
olarak anlamlı artış̧ saptandı (p<0,05). OHIP-14TR ve dentin hassasiyetinde başlangıca göre tüm
zamanlarda istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede azalma izlendi (p<0,05). Başlangıçta dentin
hassasiyeti olan bireylerde olmayanlara göre başlangıç ve 3. ay OHIP-14TR değeri anlamlı olarak
yüksek bulundu (p<0,05). OHIP-14TR skorları, dentin hassasiyeti olan ve olmayan her iki grupta da
azalmasına rağmen, gruplar arasında 1. yılda anlamlı fark bulunamadı (p>0,05). 1. yıl KKO ile KAS
(r=-0,788; p<0,01), DÇM (r=-0,918; p<0,01) ve DÇG (r=-0,908; p<0,01) istatistiksel olarak negatif
olarak anlamlı korelasyon gösterirken; KDM (r=0,690; p<0,05) ile pozitif korele idi. 1. yıl KKO ile
OHIP-14TR arasında bir korelasyon bulunmadı (p>0,05). Sonuç: Periodontal plastik cerrahi, yaşam
kalitesini etkileyen dentin hassasiyetinin tedavisinde etkili ve öngörülebilir bir tedavidir
Investigating the effectiveness of embedded instructional practices using simultaneous cueing method in developing emotion recognition skills from facial expressions in children with ASD
ÖZET
Otizmli çocukları diğerlerinden ayıran birçok özellik bulunmaktadır. Bu
çocukların ayırt edici ve aynı zamanda karakteristik özelliklerinden biri de sosyal
iletişim ve etkileşim becerilerindeki sınırlılıklardır. Otizmli çocuklarda duyguları
tanımada yaşadıkları güçlükler pek çok araştırmada incelenmiş ve yüz ifadelerinden
duyguları tanıma yetersizliklere sahip oldukları görülmüştür (Baron-Cohen, 1991).
Otizmli çocukların sosyal yaşamda yaşadıkları etkili iletişim gerçekleştirememe,
karşılıklı sohbet başlatma ve sürdürmede zorluk yaşama, konuşmaya uygun konular
bulamama (Hale ve Tager-Flusberg, 2005), sosyal ifadeleri anlamama, başkalarının
ilgilerini ve sevinçlerini paylaşamama (Atwood, 2000) gibi sorunların temelinde
duyguları tanımadaki yetersizlikler yatmaktadır. Araştırmada eşzamanlı ipucu
yöntemi ile sunulan gömülü öğretim uygulamalarının, OSB’li çocukların yüz
ifadelerinden duygu tanıma becerisini kazanmalarına, uygulama oturumları sona
erdikten sonra kazandıkları bu beceriyi korumalarına ve farklı materyaller ve farklı
ortamlarda bu beceriyi sergileyebilmeleri üzerine etkililiği incelenmiştir. Bu
araştırmada tek denekli araştırma yöntemlerinden katılımcılar arası yoklama evreli
çoklu yoklama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bağımlı değişkeni yüz
ifadelerinden duygu tanıma becerisidir. Bağımsız değişkeni ise eşzamanlı ipucu ile
sunulan gömülü öğretim uygulamalarıdır. Araştırmaya yaşları 8 olan üç OSB’li
çocuk katılmıştır. Araştırmanın her aşamasında uygulama güvenirliği ve gözlemciler
arası güvenilirlik verileri toplanmıştır. Bu bağlamda araştırmanın uygulama gü
venirlik katsayısı ile gözlemcilerarası güvenirlik katsayısı %100 olarak
hesaplanmıştır. Ayrıca, araştırmaya katılan üç OSB’li çocuğun ebeveynlerinden
araştırma hakkındaki görüşlerini öğrenmek amacıyla sosyal geçerlik verileri
toplanmıştır. Bulgular, eşzamanlı ipucu işlem süreciyle sunulan gömülü öğretim
yönteminin, OSB’li çocuklara yüz ifadelerinden duygu tanıma becerisinin
kazandırılmasında etkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Ayrıca OSB’li çocuklar
kazandıkları bu beceriyi farklı ortam ve farklı materyaller ile de genelleyebilmiş olup
bu becerileri öğretim oturumları sona erdikten 7, 14 ve 21 gün sonra da sürdürdükleri
görülmüştür.ABSTRACT
This master’s thesis conducted a study to examine the effectiveness of embedded
instructional practices using the simultaneous cueing method in developing emotion
recognition skills from facial expressions in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
(ASD). Previous research has shown that children with ASD often struggle with
recognizing emotions from facial expressions (Baron-Cohen, 1991). Difficulties in
emotion recognition underlie various social challenges faced by these children, such
as impaired communication, initiating and maintaining conversations, difficulty in
finding appropriate topics to talk about (Hale and Tager-Flusberf, 2005), failure to
understand social expressions and inability tos hare interest and joy of others
(Atwood, 2000). The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of embedded
instructional practices using the simultaneous cueing method in helping children with
ASD acquire emotion recognition skills from facial expressions, retain these skills
after the intervention sessions and exhibit these skills in different materials and
environments. The research employed a single-subject research desing, specifically
the multiple-probe across participants design. The dependent variable was the ability
to recognize emotions from facial expressions and the independent variable was the
embedded instructional practices using the simultaneous cueing method. Three
children with ASD, aged 8, participated in the study. Interobserver agreement data
were collected at each stage of the research. Additionally, social validity data were
gathered from the parents of the three participating children to obtain their
perspectives on the study. The findings of the research revealed that embedded
instructional practices using the simultaneous cueing method were effective in
develoing emotion recognition skills from facial expressions in children with ASD.
Furthermore, the children were abla to generallize these skills to different
environments and materials and they maintained these skills even 7, 4 and 21 days
after the instructional sessions concluded
On soliton solutions of parabolic law with non-local nonlinearity for improved perturbed nonlinear schrödinger equation
Abstract: The nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which has Kerr, power, parabolic, dual power, cubic, anti-cubic, quadratic-cubic, cubic quintic-septic, triple power nonlinear forms from self phase modulation, is of great importance in the modeling of many physical phenomena, especially in the modeling of soliton transmission in the field of nonlinear optics. In addition to these nonlinearity forms, the cases whether the equation includes group velocity dispersion, spatio-temporal dispersion, perturbation terms are also important for the model created. In this study, under the shadow of all these issues, we aim to obtain the analytical soliton solutions of parabolic law with non-Local nonlinearity for improved perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation having group velocity and spatio-temporal dispersions by implementing the new Kudryashov approach. Following the acquisition of soliton solutions, graphic presentations and necessary comments are the natural parts of the study
The value of preoperative inflammatory markers in patients through total laryngectomy for advanced stage larynx carcinoma
Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the difference between neutrophil, lymphocyte, platelet and RDW (red cell distribution width) counts and NLR (neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio) and PLR (platelet/lymphocyte ratio) between patients who underwent total laryngectomy for advanced stage laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and healthy control group. The study group consisted of 37 patients (36 male, 1 female) who underwent total laryngectomy and bilateral neck dissection for advanced stage laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma between January 2017 and December 2019. As a control group, complete blood count records of 35 healthy individuals who were routinely examined in 2019 within the scope of occupational health and safety were compiled. Blood was collected preoperatively from the patient in the study group. The data obtained from the whole blood counts of the two groups were analyzed statistically by comparing neutrophil, lymphocyte, platelet, RDW, NLR and PLR values. The age difference between the study and control groups was not significant (p>0.05). Neutrophil, platelet and RDW counts were higher in the study group compared to the control group and this difference was statistically significant (p=0.001, p=0.035, p=0.001, respectively). Although the lymphocyte count was high in the study group, the difference was not significant (p=0.061). The difference between NLR and PLR between the two groups was high in the study group and this difference was statistically significant (p=0.001, p=0.007, respectively). Neutrophil, platelet, RDW, NLR, PLR values were significantly higher in patients with advanced stage laryngeal cancer than in the control group. NLR, PLR and RDW values, which can be obtained cheap, simple and rapidly at the diagnosis stage of laryngeal cancers, may be biomarkers in determining prognosis. Revisiting the central aortopulmonary shunt procedure
Background: In this study, we present our experience with
the central aortopulmonary shunt technique with interposing a
polytetrafluoroethylene graft between main pulmonary artery
(end-to-end) and the ascending aorta (side-to-side) in a variety of
cyanotic congenital heart defects.
Methods: Between January 2019 and June 2022, a total of
10 patients (6 males, 4 females; mean age: 4.3±2.8 months;
range, 5 days to 10 months) with hypoplastic central pulmonary
arteries who underwent central aortopulmonary shunt procedure
were retrospectively analyzed. Demographic characteristics,
preoperative, operative, and postoperative data of the patients
were recorded. The Nakata indices of the patients were also
noted before the procedure, as well as before the second stage of
palliation or definitive repair.
Results: Four (40%) patients were operated as the first-step
palliation for univentricular circulation. Six (60%) patients had
well-developed ventricles and were palliated to be treated with
total correction. The median follow-up after the procedure was
12 (range, 8 to 16) months. The mean systemic arterial saturation
level at room air was 89.3±2.9% during follow-up. No mortality
was observed in any patient.
Conclusion: A central aortopulmonary shunt procedure provides
a reliable antegrade blood flow with a relatively non-challenging
surgical technique that offers sufficient growth for the hypoplastic
and confluent central pulmonary arteries with a very low risk of
shunt thrombosis and overflow
Approximate and exact solutions in the sense of conformable derivatives of quantum mechanics models using a novel algorithm
Abstract
The entirety of the information regarding a subatomic particle is encoded in a wave function. Solving quantum mechanical models (QMMs) means finding the quantum mechanical wave function. Therefore, great attention has been paid to finding solutions for QMMs. In this study, a novel algorithm that combines the conformable Shehu transform and the Adomian decomposition method is presented that establishes approximate and exact solutions to QMMs in the sense of conformable derivatives with zero and nonzero trapping potentials. This solution algorithm is known as the conformable Shehu transform decomposition method (CSTDM). To evaluate the efficiency of this algorithm, the numerical results in terms of absolute and relative errors were compared with the reduced differential transform and the two-dimensional differential transform methods. The comparison showed excellent agreement with these methods, which means that the CSTDM is a suitable alternative tool to the methods based on the Caputo derivative for the solutions of time-fractional QMMs. The advantage of employing this approach is that, due to the use of the conformable Shehu transform, the pattern between the coefficients of the series solutions makes it simple to obtain the exact solution of both linear and nonlinear problems. Consequently, our approach is quick, accurate, and easy to implement. The convergence, uniqueness, and error analysis of the solution were examined using Banach's fixed point theory
Obtaining soliton solutions of the nonlinear (4+1)-dimensional Boiti-Leon-Manna-Pempinelli equation via two analytical techniques
Abstract
This paper tackles the recently introduced (4+1)-dimensional Boiti-Leon-Manna-Pempinelli equation (4D-BLMPE) utilized to model wave phenomena in incompressible fluid and fluid mechanics. Modified extended tanh expansion method (METEM) and the new Kudryashov scheme are implemented to produce analytical soliton solutions for the presented equation. The traveling wave transformation is constructed, and the homogeneous balance principle is utilized to apply the two proposed techniques. Furthermore, the flat-kink, smooth-kink, singular, and periodic singular solutions are successfully extracted. Some produced solutions are illustrated graphically to understand the physical meaning of the presented model. Moreover, for the first time in this study, the effect of model parameters on kink soliton dynamics is examined, and graphical representations are depicted and interpreted
