    Optical solitons with an extended (3 + 1)-dimensional nonlinear conformable Schrödinger equation including cubic–quintic nonlinearity

    Abstract In this paper, we study the extended (3 + 1)-dimensional nonlinear conformable Schrodinger equation with cubic-quintic nonlinearity. We use three different methods to obtain exact solutions of this equation: the G'/G expansion method, the extended hyperbolic method, and Nucci's reduction method. We show that these methods are effective in finding solitary wave solutions, periodic wave solutions, and rational solutions of the equation. Besides, a first integral of the considered equation is derived by the Nucci reduction technique. Our results demonstrate the applicability of these methods in finding exact solutions to nonlinear PDEs, especially in cases where other methods are not effective

    Prevalence of soft tissue calcifications in panoramic radiography: A retrospective study

    Abstract Aim Soft tissue calcifications in the dentomaxillofacial region are unusual and relatively asymptomatic. They are often found incidentally on panoramic radiographs during routine examination. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of soft tissue calcifications of the dentomaxillofacial region in panoramic radiography in relation to demographic features and localization of the jaws. Material and method Panoramic x-ray images of 1000 patients (558 females, 442 males) aged 12-74 years were used in the study. The presence of calcified lymph node, tonsillolith, calcified atherosclerotic plaque, sialolith, phlebolith, anthrolith and styloid ligament calcification were examined. The findings were subjected to statistical analysis to examine the relationship with the gender and age parameters. Results While the most common calcification was styloid ligament calcification (8.4%), phlebolith was never found. The most common calcification was styloid ligament calcification (8.4%), followed by tonsillolith (2.1%) and carotid plaque calcification (1.5%). Conclusion Soft tissue calcifications are rarely seen on panoramic radiographs. However, when it is encountered, dentists should be able to identify and establish the differential diagnosis of the main soft tissue calcifications in the dentomaxillofacial region, which may be of high importance in patients’ health

    Structural characterization of TRAF6 N-terminal for therapeutic uses and computational studies on new derivatives

    Abstract: Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factors (TRAFs) are a protein family with a wide variety of roles and binding partners. Among them, TRAF6, a ubiquitin ligase, possesses unique receptor binding specificity and shows diverse functions in immune system regulation, cellular signaling, central nervous system, and tumor formation. TRAF6 consists of an N-terminal Really Interesting New Gene (RING) domain, multiple zinc fingers, and a C-terminal TRAF domain. TRAF6 is an important therapeutic target for various disorders and structural studies of this protein are crucial for the development of next-generation therapeutics. Here, we presented a TRAF6 Nterminal structure determined at the Turkish light source “Turkish DeLight” to be 3.2 Å resolution at cryogenic temperature (PDB ID: 8HZ2). This structure offers insight into the domain organization and zinc-binding, which are critical for protein function. Since the RING domain and the zinc fingers are key targets for TRAF6 therapeutics, structural insights are crucial for future research. Separately, we rationally designed numerous new compounds and performed molecular docking studies using this template (PDB ID:8HZ2). According to the results, 10 new compounds formed key interactions with essential residues and zinc ion in the N-terminal region of TRAF6. Molecular dynamic (MD) simulations were performed for 300 ns to evaluate the stability of three docked complexes (compounds 256, 322, and 489). Compounds 256 and 489 was found to possess favorable bindings with TRAF6. These new compounds also showed moderate to good pharmacokinetic profiles, making them potential future drug candidates as TRAF6 inhibitors

    Contemporary minimal invasive surgical management of stones in children

    Abstract Objective: Pediatric urolithiasis has been more common over the past 20 years, and urologists have unique challenges in managing it surgically because this particular demographic is recognized as one of the high-risk categories for stone recurrence. Given this reality, care focuses on maintaining renal function, achieving total stone-free status, and most importantly avoiding stone recurrences. In this presented article, we aimed to make a comprehensive review of the current minimally invasive treatment of pediatric kidney stone disease. Methods: We evaluated the results of 74 studies following a comprehensive PubMed search till February 2023. This article was written by making use of current urology guidelines. Results: Considering the reported occurrence of metabolic issues in up to 50% of cases in addition to the anatomic anomalies (about 30% of cases), the treatment of pediatric urolithiasis necessitates a full metabolic and urological examination on an individual basis. Timely management of metabolic imbalances and obstructive diseases is necessary. In addition to encouraging proper fluid consumption, it is advisable to improve urine volume and consider using medical therapeutics to raise urinary citrate levels. The location, content, and size of the stone(s), the morphology of the collecting system, the presence of urinary tract infection, as well as the presence of any obstruction, should all be taken into consideration while deciding on the best surgical procedure. Conclusion: All modern endourological methods are now used in the safe and efficient care of pediatric urolithiasis as a consequence of the obvious advancements in instrument technology and expanding expertise derived from adult patients. Other minimally invasive procedures, such as ureterorenoscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy, require more expertise and can be successfully applied with careful management for an excellent stone-free rate with minimal morbidity. Of these procedures, shock wave lithotripsy is still the first choice in the majority of cases with upper tract calculi. Open surgery will still be the therapy of choice for pediatric patients with complicated and big stones as well as anatomical anomalies

    Diş hekimliğinde multidisipliner yaklaşımların çok önemli olduğu ve bu disiplinler arası sinerjinin sağlandığı oral diagnoz, diş hekimliği ile tıp hekimliği arasında köprü görevini üstlenmektedir. Uzun yıllar bu prensipler çerçevesinde genç hekim arkadaşlarımıza, asistanlarımıza ve uzmanlık öğrencilerimize bu alanda rehber olduğumuza inanıyoruz. Bu rehberliğin oluşturduğu ekolle diş hekimliğinde semptomlar, ayırıcı tanı yöntemleri, tedavi planlamaları, sistemik hastalıklar ve acil durumlardaki değerlendirmelerde didaktik bir yaklaşımla pratik uygulamalı bir bakış açısı geliştirilmiştir. Düşüncelerimiz doğrultusunda daha önceki yıllarda editörlüğünü üstlendiğim “Oral Diagnoz”(1995) ve “Sistemik Yaklaşımlarla Oral Diagnoz” (2007) isimli mevcut kitaplarımızdan sonra gün geçtikçe baş döndürücü bir hızla değişen bilgiler ve klinik yaklaşımların diş hekimliğinde de tezahür etmesiyle güncel kalma ihtiyacı tüm gerçekliğiyle ortadadır. Oral diagnoz alanında yine editörlüğünü üstlendiğim yeni kitabım bu anlayışla yola çıkılarak düzenlenmiştir. Uzun soluklu bu yolculukta, akademik merakı ve etik sorumluluğu yüksek çok değerli hocalarımız olduğu gibi mesleğin başındaki genç hekim arkadaşlarımız da bizlere eşlik etmiştir. Kitabımızda, oral diagnoza giriş ile başlayarak tüm sistemik hastalıkları ve klinikte bu sistemik hastalıklara diş hekimliği yönünden nasıl yaklaşılması gerektiğini de içine alacak şekilde çok geniş yelpazede bilgi sunulmaktadır. Bu bilgi paylaşımları sayesinde ayırıcı tanılarda farklı bakış açıları kazandırmak amaçlanmış olup hem akademik ortamda hem de diş hekimliği pratiğinde meslektaşlarımızla olan etkileşimimiz bizi ayrıca çok mutlu etmektedir.     A study of an online cyber identity course designed on the basis of the community of inquiry model

    Abstract The current study examines whether an online cyber identity course, which was based on the community of inquiry model, significantly affected the self-efficacy perception of school counselor candidates (SCC) in terms of technology integration. Forty-four SCC, selected using the criterion sampling method, participated in a mixed-method design study by taking a one-week online cyber identity course. The online version of the Computer Technology Integration Survey (CTIS) was used as a pre and post-test measure to collect quantitative data. Two subscales are used in the survey to measure the selfefficacy of participants. Qualitative data was collected through the use of a structured interview form which included open-ended questions regarding the social, cognitive, and teaching presence of the community of inquiry model. T-tests were conducted to detect any significant differences between the pre and post-test scores of the CTIS subscales. The results of these tests revealed that the online cyber identity course created significant differences in both SCC’s self-efficacy perception of the computer technology capabilities and strategies, and the external influences of computer technology uses. Moreover, qualitative analysis results showed that students reflected more on cognitive and teaching presence than on social presence

    Significance of USP7 in predicting prognosis of mammary ductal adenocarcinoma in the Turkish population

    Abstract : Objective: Breast cancer has the highest incidence and mortality rate among women worldwide. This study aims to analyze ubiquitin specific protease 7 (USP7) levels in mammary ductal adenocarcinoma patients in the Turkish population, to identify whether there is a relationship between the levels of USP7 protein and bad prognosis, which is indicated by enlarged tumor size, younger age, and receiving neo-adjuvant treatment. Materials and Methods: In our study, we analyzed USP7 levels by immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining in 38 mammary adenocarcinoma cases in the Turkish population. Corelation analyses were performed to evaluate the distribution of the patients by their age, tumor size, Ki-67 levels, and the status of neo-adjuvant treatment by their USP7 levels. The IHC data concluded that the average age and tumor size are reversely proportional to the USP7 levels, insignificantly. The differences between the levels of USP7 and Ki-67 measurements were found to be statistically insignificant between the groups. Results: Women who received the neo-adjuvant therapy prior to the operation presented much lower amount of USP7 levels when compared to their non-treated counterparts. Conclusions: These findings highlighted that mammary ductal adenocarcinoma patients in the Turkish population present varying USP7 protein levels.     Abstract In this article, we examine the Perturbed Gerdjikov-Ivanov equation by using the Jacobi elliptic function expansion method. This results in obtaining distinct solutions including dark, bright, singular solitons, periodic waves, singular periodic waves, and Jacobi elliptic function solutions. The 2- and 3-dimensional graphs of the reported solutions are presented. The reported results may be useful in explaining the physical features of the studied equation

    Modeling the risk factors of women with very severe menopausal symptoms

    Aim: Individual differences and sociodemographic, gynecological, and cultural characteristics affect the severity of menopausal symptoms. This study aimed to reveal the severity of menopausal symptoms experienced by Turkish women and the risk factors that cause women to experience very severe menopausal symptoms. Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted with 435 women in menopause. The Personal Information Form and the Menopause Rating Scale were used to collect data. In logistic regression analysis, backward stepwise Wald binary logistic regression method was used. In the logistic regression analysis, there were 30 independent variables. The dependent variable was determined as the total MRS score. Results: The mean score of the somatic symptoms sub-dimension was 3.14 ± 2.12, the mean score of the psychological symptoms sub-dimension was 10.11 ± 5.66, and the mean score of the urogenital symptoms sub-dimension was 3.58 ± 2.90. The total mean score of the Menopause Rating Scale was 16.83 ± 9.31. Menopausal age between 44 and 50 years old (OR = 10.681), having a chronic illness (OR = 6.432), having more than 5 pregnancies (OR = 5.372), and spouse’s primary school or below education level (OR = 4.02) increase the severity of menopausal symptoms. Conclusion: It is recommended that healthcare professionals evaluate the symptoms of women in the menopause period to provide them with psychological and social support and to help the spouse and family cooperate with women in menopause in compliance with the process

    Investigation of new solitons in nematic liquid crystals with Kerr and non-Kerr law nonlinearities

    Abstract Nematicons became a key topic of interest in liquid crystal technology in recent years. This paper contributes in understanding the fantastic features of nematicons in optics and further disciplines. This piece of research investigates nematicons for obtaining various exact solutions for Kerr and non-Kerr law nonlinearities with the help of the Kudryashov's approach and the tanh-coth technique. The acquired outcomes involve rational, periodic and hyperbolic solutions as well as their combo-type solutions for all the four cases of nonlinearity. A comparative study is conducted to show the novelty of present results with results already existing in the literature. The constraint conditions obtained ensured that the existence of these solutions is extraordinarily favorable to further investigate the dynamics of nematicons for various kinds of nonlinearity. The dynamics of the few of the obtained solutions are also discussed by 3D plots
