Abstract In this article, the Hirota bilinear method is utilized to reveal multi-fusion solutions to the Broer-Kaup-Kupershmidt (BKK) system in (2 + 1)-dimension. The Broer-Kaup equations are a pair of linked nonlinear partial differential equations which plays a great role in nonlinear physics. The solutions are one-, two-, three-, and four-soliton resonant wave solutions. On the other hand, the new modified Sardar sub-equation method (SSEM) is employed to reach complex wave solutions in the form of topological, non-topological, and other wave solutions. By selecting suitable values for parameters, the dynamics of some of the reported solutions are graphed. The reported solutions are novel and have not previously been reported in the present literature. The solutions may be useful in explaining the physical meaning of various nonlinear physical model

Olfactory nomenclature: An orchestrated effort to clarify terms and definitions of dysosmia, anosmia, hyposmia, normosmia, hyperosmia, olfactory intolerance, parosmia, and phantosmia/olfactory hallucination

Abstract Background: Definitions are essential for effective communication and discourse, particularly in science. They allow the shared understanding of a thought or idea, generalization of knowledge, and comparison across scientific investigation. The current terms describing olfactory dysfunction are vague and overlapping. Summary: As a group of clinical olfactory researchers, we propose the standardization of the terms “dysosmia,” “anosmia,” “hyposmia,” “normosmia,” “hyperosmia,” “olfactory intolerance,” “parosmia,” and “phantosmia” (or “olfactory hallucination”) in olfaction-related communication, with specific definitions in this text. Key Messages: The words included in this paper were determined as those which are most frequently used in the context of olfactory function and dysfunction, in both clinical and research settings. Despite widespread use in publications, however, there still exists some disagreement in the literature regarding the definitions of terms related to olfaction. Multiple overlapping and imprecise terms that are currently in use are confusing and hinder clarity and universal understanding of these concepts. There is a pressing need to have a unified agreement on the definitions of these olfactory terms by researchers working in the field of chemosensory sciences. With the increased interest in olfaction, precise use of these terms will improve the ability to integrate and advance knowledge in this field

Background: Beck-Fahrner syndrome is caused by homozygous or heterozygous mutations in TET3 on chromosome 2p13. The general characteristics of this syndrome include behavioral abnormalities such as autistic features, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disabilities, and epilepsy. Case presentation: Six years old male patient was found to have a de novo TET3 loss-of-function variant by whole-exome sequencing (WES) analysis and was diagnosed with electrical status epilepticus during slow-wave sleep (ESES) based on clinical and electroencephalogram (EEG) characteristics. The patient had a neurodevelopmental delay from the age of 3 months and started experiencing generalized tonic-clonic seizures and regression at the age of 5 years. EEG findings were consistent with ESES, and WES analysis revealed a novel heterozygous nonsense NM_001366022.1:c.1594C > T (p.Arg532*) variant in TET3. Valproic acid and immunotherapy were administered for the first 6 months, and clobazam was administered orally in addition to oral valproic acid therapy for the next 6 months. Clinical improvement was noted regardless of EEG improvement for the first 6 months. EEG improvement was achieved with clobazam. No regression was observed following the discontinuation of immunotherapy. Conclusion: Decreased TET3 enzyme activity may be one of the new genetic etiologies of ESES. Abstract: With the increasing number of patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease, the importance of measuring drug levels in patient body fluids has increased exponentially, particularly for the drug clozapine. There is a growing demand for real-time analysis of biofluids on a single low-cost platform in ultra-low fluid volumes with robustness. This study aims to measure the level of clozapine (Clz) with a portable potentiostat using a practical approach. For this purpose, we developed an inexpensive, portable platform via electrochemistry on a commercial glucose test strip (CTS). CTSs were first modified by removing the enzyme mixture from the surface of the sensing zone, which was followed by modification with Multi walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and Nafion. The electrochemical characteristics of CTS electrodes were investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential voltammetry (DPV) techniques. The designed sensor displayed decent linear range, detection limit, reproducibility, and reusability results. A linear dynamic range of 0.1–5 µM clozapine was observed under optimized conditions with a good sensitivity (1.295 µA/µM) and detection limit (83 nM). Furthermore, the designed sensing electrode was used to measure the amount of Clz in real samples

    Get PDF
Abstract OBJECTIVEThere has not any formal education program covering geriatric oncology within Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology (TROD) residency programs similar with other countries. Developing geriatric knowledge could provide radiation oncologists to plan RT according to frailty status and geriatric syndromes. Learning specific needs of radiation oncologists (ROs) would allow TROD to arrange the existing education program according to the needs of society. The aim of this study is to determine the geriatric oncology educational needs and awareness of TROD members.METHODSWe used an 18-item survey to collect cross-sectional opinion data from the members of TROD over 2 months. This quantitative survey was developed through discussions with the members of TROD Geriatric Oncology Working Group. Responses were analyzed with descriptive statistics and common themes.RESULTSSix hundred TROD members were contacted and 201 responded (34%). The most common age group was the ages of 40-49 years with a rate of 31.8%; this was followed by 23,8% aged <30 year. They stated that geriatric patients constitute 40.9% of their daily practice. It was observed that 62.4% had difficulty in making decisions in geriatric patient group, with whom they had such intense communication in daily clinic practice. More than half (62.4%) of responders had difficulty when managing the geriatric patients; 75% agreed additional geriatric training would be helpful. CONCLUSIONThere are significant deficiencies related to geriatric management of geriatric cancer patients within the TROD members. Most ROs agreed that it is important to integrate geriatric oncology training to improve and personalize the standards of geriatric patients

A Lie group treatment on a generalized evolution Fisher type equation with variable coefficients

    Get PDF
Abstract In this study, a general second-order evolution equation of the Fisher-type, with time-dependent variable coefficients, is considered. This equation contains many well-known equations, and obtained results may be applicable in investigating other evolution equations. Lie symmetries and corresponding invariant solutions of the considered problem are studied by a non-traditional Lie symmetry method (LSM). Prolongation of the model is an essential part of the Lie symmetry method, which in the current work, we analyze by the heir-equations. Finally, different types of solutions depending on the variable coefficients, such as the exponential solutions, trigonometric solutions, Bessel solutions, and Mathieu solutions, are extracted

Relationship between expression levels of TDRD7 and CRYBB3 and development of age-related cortico-nuclear cataracts

    Get PDF
Background: The human lens develops age-related cataracts (ARCs) because of the complicated effects of aging and stressful conditions. Under conditions involving oxidative stress, cells form stress granules (SGs). TDRD7 has been identified as an RNA granule component and an important component of SGs. TDRD7 plays a role in the post-transcriptional expression of genes, such as the crystallin gene CRYBB3. Therefore, the present study investigated TDRD7 and CRYBB3 mRNA expressions in relation to age-related cortico-nuclear cataracts. Methods: Quantitative real-time PCR was used to determine the expression levels of TDRD7 and CRYBB3 in 52 patients with ARC and 52 healthy controls. Anterior lens capsules and peripheral blood samples from patients with ARC were included in the patient group, and peripheral blood samples from healthy subjects and human lens epithelial cells (HLE-B3) were included in the control group. Gene expression levels in the different age groups were compared. Correlation analysis was used to assess the gene expression levels and age. Results: The expression of TDRD7 and CRYBB3 was significantly up-regulated (P < 0.0001) in anterior lens capsules compared to that in HLE-B3 cells. Similarly, the expression of TDRD7 (P = 0.0004) and CRYBB3 (P < 0.0001) was higher in the peripheral blood samples of patients with ARC than in those of healthy subjects. Significant upregulation (P < 0.05) was observed in the 71–81-year age group of patients. No correlation was found between gene expression levels and age. Conclusion: Significantly higher expression levels of TDRD7 and CRYBB3 in patients with ARC than in controls suggest that TDRD7 and CRYBB3 are associated with the development of age-related cortico-nuclear cataracts and the aging process under chronic stress
