    Optical soliton solutions of Schrödinger-Hirota equation with stochastic distribution with multiplicative white noise and nonlinear parabolic law via Ito calculus

    Abstract: In this study, our aim is to introduce the stochastic distribution Schrödinger-Hirota equation with multiplicative white noise and nonlinear parabolic law (SHEPL) through Ito calculation and to investigate its stochastic optical soliton solutions. To this end, we used the auxiliary and unified Riccati expansion of equations (UREEM) methods to generate analytical solutions. Firstly, we integrated multiplicative white noise with wave transform into SHEPL via Ito calculation and constructed the real and imaginary parts of nonlinear ordinary differential equation (NODE) form of SHEPL. We then introduced the solution algorithms of subversion of auxiliary and UREEM methods and successfully applied it to NODE. We composed analytical solutions of SHEPL using appropriate solution sets containing unknown parameters and required transformations. Then, we investigated the noise effect on the structure of soliton, we presented the graphical representations of these solutions and the research results. We obtained optical stochastic soliton solutions of SHEPL, reflected their graphical representations, and presented the effect of the noise factor on the obtained structure of solitons

    Abstract Introduction: Nanoparticles are used in various fields such as chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology, and food science since they provide higher sensitivity than traditional optical detection methods. Recently, synthesis of nanomaterials using green chemistry has become popular. Many phytochemical components are used in the synthesis of nanoparticles, including vitamins, proteins, polysaccharides, glycosides, essential oils and phenolic compounds. Objective: A novel green nanotechnology-based method using quince seed mucilage (QSM) was designed for the determination of ascorbic acid in pharmaceutical preparations. QSM, a natural polysaccharide, was used as a bioreducing and stabilizing reagent in the proposed silver nanoparticle (SNP)-based method. Method: In the first stage of the developed method, silver(I) is reduced to silver(0) via QSM and spherical, homogeneous SNPs were prepared (QSM-SNPs). In the second stage of the developed method, SNPs nuclei were enlarged with the addition of ascorbic acid. The developed method was validated by performance parameters (linearity, recovery, and precision). Ascorbic acid determination was performed by measuring increase in absorbance at 420 nm. Results: The limit of detection and limit of quantification for ascorbic acid were, respectively, found to be at 0.27 and 0.90 μM. The QSM-SNP-based method was successfully applied to effervescent tablets containing ascorbic acid. The standards of the excipients frequently used in pharmaceutical preparations did not interfere with the developed method.     Abstract In the present investigation, we employed the Jacobi elliptic function (JEF) method to invoke the perturbed nonlinear Schro center dot dinger equation with self-steepening (SS), self-phase modulation (SPM), and group velocity dispersion (GVD), which govern the propagation of solitonic pulses in optical fibres. The proposed algorithm proves the existence of the family of solitons in optical fibers. Consequently, chirped and chirp free W-shaped bright, dark soliton solutions are obtained from dn(4), cn(4) and sn(4) functions. The final results are displayed in three-dimensional plots with specific physical values of GVD, SPM and SS for an optical fiber

    Accuracy of aMMP-8 point-of-care test in indicating periodontal treatment outcomes in stage III/IV periodontitis: A 24-week follow-up study

    Objective: To analyse the correspondence between aMMP-8 PoC test results and the clinical endpoints of non-surgical periodontal treatment in stage III/IV periodontitis. Background: The diagnostic success of the active-matrix metalloproteinase-8 (aMMP8) point-of-care (PoC) test has been demonstrated in various studies, but the evidence of its accuracy following periodontal treatment is limited. Materials and methods: Altogether 42 stage III/IV grade C periodontitis patients were included in this prospective diagnostic study. Clinical periodontal indices were recorded, aMMP-8 PoC test was applied and mouthrinse was collected before and at 6, 12 and 24 weeks after non-surgical periodontal treatment. Quantitative aMMP-8 levels were determined with immunofluorometric assay (IFMA) for the verification of the PoC test results. The accuracy of the aMMP-8 PoC test was assessed using previously established clinical endpoints as references. Results: Sensitivity and specificity of aMMP-8 PoC test to indicate clinical endpoints were ranged as follows: Sensitivity 71.4% at baseline, 39.3%–42.4% at week 6, 28.6%– 32.4% at week 12 and 35.3%–42.9% at week 24; specificity 64.3%–80% at week 6, 40%–57.1% at week 12 and 56%–64.3% at week 24. Conclusions: The accuracy of aMMP-8 PoC test in identifying clinical endpoints after non-surgical periodontal treatment is reduced in relation to baseline. Individual healing patterns of each diseased pocket eventually limit the accuracy of the dichotomous aMMP-8 oral rinse test during the post-treatment period

    Same day discharge versus overnight observation followingchronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention:Insights from the PROGRESS‐CTO registry

    Abstract BackgroundSame day discharge (SDD) following chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has received limited study. MethodsWe evaluated the clinical, angiographic, and procedural characteristics of patients discharged the same day versus those kept for overnight observation in the Prospective Global Registry for the Study of Chronic Total Occlusion Intervention (PROGRESS-CTO, NCT02061436). ResultsOf the 7181 patients who underwent CTO PCI, 943 (13%) had SDD. The SDD rate increased from 3% in 2015 to 21% in 2022. Patients with SDD were less likely to have a history of heart failure (21% vs. 26%, p = 0.005), chronic lung disease (10% vs. 15%, p = 0.001), or anemia (12% vs. 19%, p < 0.001). Technical success (87% vs. 88%, p = 0.289) was similar, but in-hospital major adverse cardiovascular events (0.0% vs. 0.4%, p = 0.041) were lower in SDD. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, prior myocardial infarction odds ratio (OR): 0.71 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.59-0.87, p = 0.001), chronic lung disease OR: 0.64 (95% CI: 0.47-0.88, p = 0.006), and increasing procedure time OR: 0.93 (95% CI: 0.91-0.95, p < 0.001, per 10-min increase) were associated with overnight observation, while radial-only access OR: 2.45 (95% CI: 2.03-2.96, p < 0.001) had the strongest association with SDD. In the SDD, 2 (0.4%) of 514 patients were readmitted, due to retroperitoneal bleeding (n = 1) and ischemic stroke (n = 1). ConclusionThe overall frequency of SDD after CTO PCI was 13% and has been increasing over time. SDD is feasible in select patients following CTO PCI, and radial-only access had the strongest association with SDD

    Applicability evaluation of mtDNA based molecular identification in mosquito species/subspecies/biotypes collected from Thessaloniki, Greece

    Abstract The genus Culex, containing many described species, plays a role as a vector for diseases of medical and veterinary importance worldwide. Among these species, Culex pipiens is one of the most widespread mosquitoes and is classified into two biological forms (biotypes), named as Culex pipiens pipiens and Culex pipiens molestus. Due to similar morphological structure between these biotypes, morphological identification is inadequate. Thus, molecular methods have been developed and are considered more reliable, some of which are based on analyses of mitochondrial DNA. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the applicability and reliability of mtDNA based molecular identification methodologies. Initially, mosquito specimens (n = 100) collected from Thessaloniki, Greece were morphologically analyzed. Then, mitochondrial cox1 sequencing and PCR-RFLP methods were used to confirm the morphological identification results as well as to discriminate species and subspecies/biotype of Culex pipiens complex. According to morphological identification results, Culex pipiens complex (n = 92), Culex modestus (n = 6) and Culex theileri (n = 2) were detected. Using mtDNA sequencing, all Culex modestus and Culex theileri samples were confirmed whereas 86 of Culex pipiens complex were detected as Culex pipiens but surprisingly the remaining six of them were detected as Culex quinquefasciatus. Among Culex pipiens specimens, PCR-RFLP detected that frequency of Culex pipiens pipiens (85%; 85/100) was very high compared to Culex pipiens molestus (1%, 1/100). In conclusion, this study shows the necessity of use of molecular methods beside morphological methods for especially specimens detected as Culex pipiens. Also, it was shown that mtDNA PCR-RFLP methodology represents a well-established alternative for Culex biotypes identification

    ÖZET çalışma umudun sağlıkta yaşam kalitesi ile ilişkisinin incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada ilişkisel tarama modelinden faydalanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu 18 yaş ve üzeri 141 kadın ve 107 erkek olmak üzere toplamda 248 bireyden oluşturmuştur. Katılımcılara araştırmacının hazırlamış olduğu Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Umut Ölçeği ve SF-36 Sağlıkta Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Katılımcıların demografik özelliklere göre umut ve sağlıkta yaşam kalitesi açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir şekilde farklılaşıp farklılaşmadıklarını incelemek için bağımsız örneklem t testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Farklılığın hangi gruplar arasında gerçekleştiğini gözlemlemek için çoklu karşılaştırma testlerinden Tukey testi kullanılmıştır. Bireylerin umut düzeylerinin sağlıkta yaşam kalitesi alt boyutlarının anlamlı birer yordayıcısı olup olmadığını incelemek için regresyon analizinden faydalanılmıştır. Analiz sonuçları umudun cinsiyet, eğitim düzeyi ve gelir düzeyine göre anlamlı olarak farklılaşmadığını göstermiştir. Evlilik durumuna göre bakıldığında ise evli bireylerin umut düzeyinin bekar olanlara göre daha yüksek seviyede olduğu gözlenmiştir. Sağlıkta yaşam kalitesi açısından bakıldığında cinsiyet ve evlilik açısından farklılaşmalar gözlenmiştir. Buna göre erkeklerin yaşam kalitesi kadınlara oranla daha yüksek seviyede bulunurken medeni durum açısından bakıldığında fiziksel fonksiyon alt boyutu bekarlarda canlılık, ruh sağlığı ve sosyal işlev alt boyutlarında evlilerde yaşam kalitesi puanları daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Umut ve mutluluk arasındaki ilişki incelendiğinde umut ve mutluluk arasında pozitif anlamlı ilişki bulunmuştur. Umut ve sağlıkta yaşam kalitesi xi arasındaki ilişkiye bakıldığında umudun canlılık, ruh sağlığı, sosyal işlevsellik ve genel sağlık alt boyutlarını anlamlı olarak yordadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Buna göre umut ile canlılık, ruh sağlığı, sosyal işlevsellik ve genel sağlık boyutları arasında pozitif yönlü ilişki tespit edilmişti

    Can additional variables be used to predict stone-free rates following retrograde intrarenal surgery? Anticoagulants and parenchyma thickness: A detailed examination

    The purpose of this article is to identify the factors that predict the success of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS), with a focus on the efect of renal parenchymal thickness and anticoagulant use on stone-free rates. From February 2014 to April 2022, cases of kidney stones treated with RIRS at our clinic were retrospectively screened. The study included 642 cases meeting all inclusion and exclusion criteria. The patients who were observed to be stone free after a single session of RIRS were assigned to Group F, while those with residual fragments were assigned to Group R. Group F comprised 472 patients, while Group R included 170 patients. The two groups have compared certain preoperative and postoperative laboratory and radiological parameters. The infundibulopelvic angle was signifcantly more acute in Group R (45.63±16.25 vs. 49.28±15.36, p=0.011) while patients in Group F tended to have thicker parenchyma (27.39±8.38 vs. 22.88±5.56, p<0.001). In our analysis of multivariate logistic regression, stone size (OR: 1.074, 1.037–1.113; p<0.001), lower calyceal location (OR: 0.550, 95% CI 0.364–0.831; p=0.005), multiple numbers of stones (OR 0.254, 95% CI 0.166–0.389; p= <0.001), the value of parenchymal thickness (OR 0.911, 95% CI 0.882–0.941; p= <0.001) and more importantly use of anticoagulants/antiplatelets (OR 0.557, 95% CI 0.333–0.933; p=0.026) appeared to be independent predictors of stonefree status after RIRS. Further evaluation of the data revealed that the cut-of value of the renal parenchymal thickness for an efective stone-free status in a ROC curve analysis was 24.5 with 62.9% sensitivity and 56.8% specifcity (area under curve value: 0.654 [95% CI 0.608–0.699, p<0.001]). The endourologist may be able to make more informed decisions by evaluating renal parenchymal thickness in addition to patient-related factors like anticoagulant use, which we fnd signifcantly afects outcomes, along with the stone and renal anatomy-related factors
