Pers Tionghoa Pasca Orde Baru di Yogyakarta
Since the end of Soeharto regime in 1998, dozens of newspapers with Chinese language and Indonesian newspapers which were published by Chinese people started to emerge. Having bases in some major cities, these newspapers aimed for all Chinese community. However, most of them did not exist in a long period. Interestingly, some of the Chinese press in some regions goes along in some certain pages in the local newspapers, such as in Yogyakarta. With this format, they can survive and become the media of expression for Indo-Chinese people. This paper essentially observes these phenomena in three Yogyakarta local newspapers, namely Bernas Jogja, Radar Jogja, and Harian Jogja (Harjo). Konstruksi Seksualitas Perempuan di Majalah Men’s Health
This study explores the construction of female sexuality in MEN’S HEALTH Magazine. MEN’S HEALTH is a magazine which contains information about fitness, health, intimacy, career and fashion. MEN’S HEALTH in Indonesian edition is a franchise of Indonesian Edition which is licensed by the United States’ MEN’S HEALTH. The purpose of this study is to study the construction of female sexuality in the media. This study also aims to examine the imbalance of power between men and women which is built by the media. By using critical discourse analysis, this research shows that woman’s sexuality is under men’s domination, and it is exploited by capital. There are several points in the conclusion which are women as commodity and women as ones who were defeated. According to MEN’S HEALTH, good women are asexual and it exploits sexuality as an object. Representasi Kekerasan Simbolik dalam Iklan Anak-anak
This paper aims to observe symbolic violence towards women which can be seen in children advertisements on television. This symbolic violence is a smooth way to dominate, and it cannot be known or recognized. So, it is called misrecognition domination which is introduced socially. The research method is done by analyzing the contents of children TV advertisements during April 2012. The result shows that there is a strong confirmation of gender roles stereotip for women and men in children advertisements. Female figures in children advertisement are placed in social roles as wives, housewives, or prospective wives and housewives with domestic activity. Social position which is performed by female figures includes jobs or prospective jobs which are associated with a secretary, a kindergarten teacher, singer, painter, or a model. Then the personal traits which are attached to the female figures are gentle, helpful, affectionate, shy, sensitive, smart, jealous, caring for beauty and appearance, attentive, creative and love competition. On the other hand, male figures in children advertisements are described as having social roles as fathers and the leaders of family. The social position is described as the family breadwinners. Based on The Law Number 14 Year 2008 about The Openness of Public Information (UU KIP), public organization in Indonesia must provide the public information as their duty for the public. Majority of research about practice of UU KIP discuss about the practice in government or state organization. Meanwhile, the public organization also include non-government organization. This article discuss about practice of the opennes of public information in Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). PSSI is one kind of non-government organization. PSSI also under the microscope because public thinks PSSI is not transparent related to their management. The focus of this article is how PSSI use their internet-based media to support the practice of the opennes of public information. Theoritically, internet could support the organization in providing information to the public. There are four indicators to observe the internet usage: (1) transparency, (2) participation, (3) accountability, (4) effective and efficient. PSSI has did the transparency and accountability, but still non-ideal. Meanwhile for participation and effective and efficient, PSSI not doing it yet. Music is one of media product which is not able to be separated from Political Economy of Media even though it is packaged as leisure time entertainment product. Music which is particularly in Alternative subgenre is not far from its main genre which is Rock. In fact, this subgenre has a solid and prominent fan base which consists of young people who enjoy dynamic and fast-tempo music which tells the struggle of youngsters in their life. Ironically, the tragic incidents which surround the band personnel of ‘The All-American Rejects’ are used to increase the popularity of their single entitled ‘Move Along’. Media Sosial dan Gaya Komunikasi
The emergence of social media as a means to communicate has given the influence on the people’s life either directly or undirectly. It is because social media gives an opportunity to the users to interact and express their aspirations and inspirations. This media can even affect the communication styles of its users. This study aims to determine the impact of the use of social media which is based on web 2.0 on everyday communication styles of STAIN Kediri students. It also determines which variables that give dominant impact on communication styles. Based on the research, it can be concluded that there is a significant impact of the use of social media towards daily communication styles of STAIN Kediri students. The most significant variable which has great impact is the interaction in utilizing social media. It is because the student interaction with social media explains the relationship and deep involvement between the users and the social media that they use. Komodifikasi Dai di Televisi: Kajian Ekonomi Politik Media
In every talent show on TV, labor commodification occurs not only on the creative team, but also on the contestants. Dai Muda Pilihan ANTV which was aired in 2011 was also full of commodification, particularly on the Dai (Islam preacher) as the contestants. In this study, the researcher wants to find out the processes and patterns of labor commodification, particularly the Dai in Dai Muda Pilihan ANTV. The method of the research is case study with in-depth interview, participant observation, and documentation as the data collection methods. The result shows that commodification in Dai Muda Pilihan ANTV occurred at pre-production, production, and postproduction. Therefore, the Dai who normatively have religious characters were encouraged to perform well and to entertain in accordance with the commercialization values of the television station which owned the program. Media Sosial Baru dan Munculnya Revolusi Proses Komunikasi
The study entitled “New Social Media and The Emergence of Revolution in Communication Process” has a background as follows; (1) the people around the world are infatuated with social media, (2) social media has changed the process of message delivery in the world. The social media has even changed the political map, world power, world intercommunication because of the acceleration of communication, and (3) the circulation of information which spreads by social media is much more complicated, more complex, and it has real consequences in internet age today. Based on this study, it could be concluded as follows; (1) the changes in message delivery process from one direction (one-step flow) to the many direction (multistep flow), (2) the amount of message circulation which spreads in the world as a result of social media is greatly increasing beyond space and time, (3) our society is experiencing spillover of communication (overwhelming information) that causes cultural shock in our society. Persepsi Antarbudaya sebagai inti Komunikasi Lintas Budaya (Studi Kasus mengenai Mahasiswa Indonesia di India)
Jumlah mahasiswa Indonesia yang belajar ke luar negeri semakin hari semakin meningkat. Faktanya ketika berada di negara yang berbeda dengan tempat di mana dibesarkan, akan menimbulkan berbagai konflik baik internal maupun eksternal diri. India berada pada kebudayaan yang dekat dengan Indonesia dalam The Lewis Cross-Cultural Communication model, namun berbeda negara pasti juga memiliki banyak perbedaan yang terjadi di dalamnya. India merupakan salah satu tujuan belajar mahasiswa Indonesia untuk belajar di luar negeri. Dalam artikel ini menjelaskan mengenai penelitian yang dilakukan kepada beberapa mahasiswa Indonesia yang belajar di India untuk melihat bagaimana pandangan mereka tentang India serta bagaimana persepsi dari diri mereka untuk kemudian menjalankan komunikasi lintasbudaya sebagai mahasiswa Indonesia di India.
Apresiasi Komunikasi dalam Komunikasi Antarpribadi
The purpose of this study is to determine the difference of communication apprehension among undergraduate students of communication science study program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University based on communication context and extrovertintrovert of personality types. The method of this research is quantitative method and comparative study. The data was collected by Para Tingkat questionnaire of Situational Communitaion Apprehension by Devito () and extrovert-introvert MBTI personality type test by Myers (). The samples were 80 undergraduate students. The data were analyzed by One Way Anova and independent sample T-Test. In analyzing the data, it also used SPSS 18.00. The result of this study is that there are significant differences of communication apprehension among undergraduate students of communication science study program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University based on communication context with F 11,415 and p 0.000 <0,050. Thus, hypothesis 1 is accepted. There is no significant difference of communication apprehension among students based on extrovertintrovert extrovertintrovert personality type with F 0.115 and p 0.734> 0.050.
