THE ADVANCED ANALYTICS JUMPSTART: DEFINITION, PROCESS MODEL, BEST PRACTICES
Companies are encouraged by the big data trend to experiment with advanced analytics and many turn to specialist consultancies to help them get started where they lack the necessary competences. We investigate the program of one such consultancy, Advectas - in particular the advanced analytics Jumpstart. Using qualitative techniques including semi structured interviews and content analysis we investigate the nature and value of the Jumpstart concept through five cases in different companies. We provide a definition, a process model and a set of thirteen best practices derived from these experiences, and discuss the distinctive qualities of this approach
INTEGRATING INTERNAL CONTROL FRAMEWORKS FOR EFFECTIVE CORPORATE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GOVERNANCE
Abstract This paper analyzes and proposes how several internal control frameworks can be integrated to achieve effective corporate information technology governance. The fundamental tenet of the current literature in this area is that neither a single framework nor non-integrated multiple frameworks would suffice in achieving effective information technology security and governance. Using the extant literature, a deductive approach, and focusing on three popularized internal control frameworks ERM, COSO, and COBIT5, we propose a framework that can help organizations effectively and efficiently achieve information technology governance through their interaction. An integrated framework is one that links the key control objectives to strategic business objectives and, in doing so, addresses IT governance principles at both a strategic and operational level, whilst aligning IT and business management understanding of the key risk areas that characterize the organization’s goals (Goosen and Rudman, 2013). In addition, this fundamental alignment is expected to eliminate unnecessary controls and processes which in turn help improving IT governance. We expect firms seeking to adopt the proper IT governance to utilize the proposed integrated framework
CYBER SECURITY GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT FOR SMART GRIDS IN BRAZILIAN ENERGY UTILITIES
The event of cyber security in critical infrastructures has aroused the interest and the worry of energy utilities, government, regulatory agencies, and consumers as well as of the academic and research institutions. If on one hand it is prominent the vulnerability of the cyberspace, which augments the risk of attacks in the organizational environment, on the other hand, the research leading to alternatives for the governance and management of these critical structures are still too incipient. This study aims at building a theoretical-empirical model of cyber security governance and management and testing it along with academic experts and professionals from the energy sector. By using the Delphi method and statistics techniques for validation, an assessment instrument was developed based on both the constructs: governance and management; and nine dimensions with their respective variables that allowed for an analysis of the situation of the Brazilian energy utilities regarding the protection of their cyberspaces. The contribution of the article reaches two fronts: a conceptual and empirical one as it expands and systematizes the knowledge about aspects of the governance and management of cyberspaces; and a methodological one as it proposes measuring those dimensions in energy utilities
THE ADOPTION OF BIG DATA SERVICES BY MANUFACTURING FIRMS: AN EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION IN INDIA
Although some leading companies are actively adopting Big data services (BDS) to strengthen market competition , many manufacturing firms are still in the early stage of the adoption curve due to lack of understanding of and experience with BDS. Hence, it is interesting and timely to understand issues relevant to BDS adoption. The empirical investigation reveals that a firm’s intention to adopt BDS can be positively affected by the quality and benefits of BDS. Surprisingly, a firm’s absorptive capacity in utilizing big data and risks and costs associated with implementation and maintenance does not impact the adoption intention of BDS
Analysis of Interaction between Business Intelligence and SMEs: Learn from Each Other
: Business Intelligence (BI) and SMEs are two distinctive research domains but greater interaction between these two entities can offer the effective learn from each other. This interaction has been consider in conducting the changing environment. This interaction does only strengthen individual insights of BI and SMEs, it contributes to the business environmental performance. Although research on BI and SMEs is vast to date, limited focus was given on learning aspect between BI and SMEs. Therefore, this study is aimed to analyse literature and explore an integrated view of literature analysed on how BI and SMEs learn from each other and contributes to the business environmental performance. A qualitative content analysis was conducted for the procedure, which considers 43 articles for data source. Findings of the literature review suggest enhancing capability of SMEs and new innovation of BI, which may affect each other. Findings of this study may become useful for further research in terms of BI implementation success
Revisitant Les Facteurs Affectant L’utilisation Des Tics Sur L’information Relative Aux Intrants Agricoles Par Les Paysans Dans Les Pays en Voie de Developpement D’Afrique Et Asie
Despite farmers’ exposition to ICTs on agricultural input information, their contribution to the access and use of agricultural input information is far from expectation. This study therefore, reviewed these ICTs in developing countries to extract the factors that affect ICTs’ adoption by small-scale famers using the Grounded Theory.
Proactive Management of IT Operations to Improve IT Services
IT Service Operations is a high priority improvement target for IT service providers because it is critical for business operations and involves daily interaction with customers, thus directly effecting customer satisfaction. An action research project involving three organizations explored current IT service operation activities and challenges and initiated projects to improve service operation at each organization. The findings indicate that the major challenges include reactive rather than proactive approach to IT operations management, measurement and reporting, classification of incidents, management of customer feedback, and interfaces between IT service operation processes. Recommendations are formulated to help IT service managers and theoretical contributions are provided
Co-Creation of E-Services Enabled by the Digitalization of Physical Products
: With the advent of digitalization, e-services are now enabled by embedded digital technologies in physical products such as vehicles, elevators, construction equipment. In spite of numerous instances of e-services enabled by the digitalization of physical products, little research has been carried out to investigate the characteristics of co-creation of such e-services. This paper attempts to fill the gap by reporting from a three-year long research project with a vehicle manufacturing company. Using the translation phases from the Actor-Network theory (ANT) as a theoretical lens, this paper presents three propositions that characterize the co-creation of e-services enabled by the digitalization of physical products. The propositions highlight the role of physical products, establishment of trust and setting priorities about digitalization
App adoption and switching behavior: applying the extended tam in smartphone app usage
The increasing use of mobile applications have been escalating with the increasing use of smartphones. In the present study, we examine (a) the adoption behavior of mobile apps using the extended TAM framework, and (b) whether adoption leads to subsequent use behavior and switching intentions. Based on data collected from two surveys in India we test the conceptual model of extended TAM and the effects of behavior on switching intentions using factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The major findings indicate a significant effect of most predictor variables on the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of apps. Further, we found a significant effect of behavioral intention on use behavior and subsequent switching intentions to apps from computers/laptops
