Full text linkIn a time where mass-mediated culture is prominently consumed in our society, the right portrayals of crime becomes primary. This goes without saying that media in popular culture often featured highly visible crimes to be portrayed as exaggerating and exhilarating phenomenon. Thus, this paper is set to acknowledge the ever-growing portrayals of the dynamic of crime in urban area presented in docuseries “Asumsi Distrik”. Using Jeff Ferrell’s cultural criminology framework, this study also viewed the depiction of the inhabitants in urban area to be categorized as “crime as culture”. Moreover, Asumsi Distrik hereby posed as a medium to bring the visibility of crime of the powerful that often overlooked by the media

Full text linkThe phenomenon of the 2017 DKI Jakarta Regional Head Election (Pilkada) presents a lot of friction which causes a contestation of meanings to be analyzed using a cultural criminology point of view. Having a focus on one word, namely “eviction”, cultural criminology is placed as the basis for analysis of contestation that focuses on cultural space and the influence of post-modernism. Cultural criminology also discusses how education plays a major role in shaping the discourse construction process of crime. Full text linkTulisan ini membahas mengenai keberadaan suatu wacana yang merupakan bagian dari narasi film berjudul 2014. Wacana spesifik dalam film menjadi suatu hal krusial yang patut untuk diidentifikasi karena menurut paradigma postmodern, wacana dan interaksi sosial merupakan sarana manusia dalam membentuk realita sosial. Melalui penokohan, alur cerita, dan logika dunia dalam film tersebut, penulis mengidentifikasi bahwa wacana yang ingin disampaikan oleh film ini adalah propaganda polisi yang bertujuan untuk membentuk citra polisi yang baik. Propaganda tersebut disampaikan karena apabila direspons secara positif akan membentuk perputaran wacana kepercayaan terhadap polisi oleh masyarakat, media, dan polisi itu sendiri

Full text linkOntologically, from a symbolic interactionist perspective, bitcoin can be viewed as a crime. This paper aims to explain how bitcoin viewed as a crime especially from Michalowski’s symbolic interactionism perspective. In the interactionist perspective, where society is plural and has different values from other groups, the definition of right or wrong depends on the plural and unique point of view of the community group. The difference in definition is the result of interactions and labels given by the community. Likewise, the view of crime can differ according to the interaction, definitions and labels given by society. In this case, Indonesian view bitcoin as a crime because of the perception that bitcoin is a virtual currency that is used to carry out illegal transactions.Keywords: bitcoin; crime; label; symbolic interactionism

Using Arnold’s conception of the genre and Dillaway & Paré’s house-bound motherhood, this paper aims to explore the symbols and narratives surrounding monstrous motherhood featured in Mo Brother’s “Rumah Dara” (2009) that makes it distinct from its precedent, “Dara” (2007), in which the titular character is not a mother. Findings show that while the change is determinant, the film lacks depth in portrayal of motherhood as it was directed by men
Hiperrealitas dalam Fenomena Real Person Fiction di Kalangan Penggemar K-Pop
Full text linkPerson Fiction (RPF) is a subset of fanfiction whose characters are adapted from public figures which then written based on the assumptions of their fans. RPF is one of the most popular phenomenon of fan cultures, especially among the K-Pop community. While virtually harmless, RPF unknowingly has a risk of constructing false reality on the concept of idols for its readers, which then can generate deviant values or even crimes in the long run. The concept of hyperreality is able to provide insight on how deviant fans is created while constitutive criminology tries to consider the human agents to prevent the amplifying effects that will occur if these negative values of fan culture get normalized

Full text linkAbstractThe discussion in this paper focuses on looking at data related to fake news and hoaxes that statistically continue to rise in the digital space of society. The analysis carried out on the deliberate making of fake news and hoaxes by certain parties provides an overview of their impact empirically and concretely on the views and paradigms of netizens or the internet community in Indonesia. The journal that is the source of the literature review is research that discusses the impact of hoaxes in different contexts, times and locations. The author uses the Neo-Routine Activity Theory which is very suitable for analyzing various types of cybercrime. Full text linkAbstrakMakalah ini membahas penjarahan dan kekerasan domestik yang muncul pasca bencana Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami Sulawesi 2018 yang melanda kota Palu, Donggala, dan sekitarnya. Pasca bencana, jumlah kasus penjarahan dan kekerasan domestik muncul dan meningkat di daerah terdampak bencana. Bencana memberikan dampak negatif pada masyarakat dan individu yang menjadi korban. General Strain Theory digunakan dalam tulisan ini untuk melihat bagaimana sumber-sumber ketegangan muncul dari dampak negatif bencana dan mempengaruhi perilaku dan tindakan korban bencana. Tulisan ini menyimpulkan bahwa ketegangan yang dihasilkan dari bencana mendorong korban untuk melakukan kejahatan berupa penjarahan dan kekerasan domestik.Kata Kunci: Bencana alam, Penjarahan, Kekerasan Domestik, General Strain Theor
