Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning can be the catalyst for boosting income and propelling productivity. This process enables knowledge and experiences that people acquire outside of formal education to be assessed and recognised, thereby granting them the opportunity to enrol in courses at open and distance learning institutions like Open University Malaysia. The main objective of this paper is to provide descriptive information on the operationalisation of credit awards and to examine the factors affecting the operationalisation of credit awards in open and distance learning institutions. Data related to applications, eligibility and results of 1,721 students over five years were summarised in this paper. A review was conducted on previous literature, policies and documents from Malaysian Qualifications Agency to create an instrument. A total of 203 usable questionnaires were obtained from Open University Malaysia using phone interview methodology. Based on the mean analysis performed, it can be summarised that the students put much emphasis on saving time and cost via credit transfer because most of the adult learners intend to graduate faster. An exploratory factor analysis procedure was conducted using Principal Component with Varimax Rotation on the 20 items that measured operationalisation of APEL for credit awards (Kaiser Mayer Olkin = 0.94; Total Variance Explained = 70%). Service Quality (Alpha = 0.94), Management System (Alpha = 0.89) and Support system (Alpha = 0.87) were the three factors that were extracted from the exploratory factor analysis procedure and they were all found reliable to claim a model fit. In terms of originality, this is a preliminary study on credit awards in Malaysia that has furnished empirical data. It can be concluded that this mechanism serves as a social justice tool, providing lifelong learning opportunities to adult learners. (Abstract by author

Development of an Android-base Parking Management Application

Nowadays, available free parking slots are hard to be noticed when the parking area inside the building's parking area is full of cars. When it is hard for a driver to notice available parking, this will result in a longer searching time to find available parking slots. The building installs various sensors in separate parking spaces to detect the cars and sometimes the sensor is not functioning well. Thus, an android-based Parking Management System is developed. This application will be developed to let users enter the building parking area without the parking ticket, display the availability of parking slot numbers so that it will assist the users to easily find available parking slots. Moreover, this application also can let the user pay their parking fee. All the information collected will be sent into the cloud as a database for this system

Any government organizations, such as Majlis Perbandaran Dungun (MPD), will definitely face the need to change their structure, objectives, processes and technology. The MPD is in the process of adopting the Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies (SAGA) at the fourth phase of implementing the accounting and financial system as was directed by the government. MPD is collaborating with MBI (Ipoh City Council) in developing the system that suits the MPD’s requirement in order to ensure that the system is in compliance with SAGA. The success of SAGA implementation in MPD does not depend only on technical perspectives but may also rely on the employees’ willingness to use the system. The purpose of the study is to determine the employees’ technology readiness (TR) and technology readiness for change (RFC) in the implementation of SAGA in MPD. The basic question is the applicability of the system by the MPD employees. The scope of the study is to examine technology readiness (TR) by using Technology Readiness Index (TRI) which includes the test of user personality by using the TRI components: opportunity, innovativeness, discomfort and insecurity, and readiness for change (RFC) statements. The study examines the relationship of user personality and technology readiness and finally to determine the most influential user personality towards technology readiness among the employees of MPD. Questionnaires were adopted from previous study on technology readiness (TR) and technology readiness for change (RFC) and distributed to the MPD staffs. The questionnaire involved three sections: demographic, readiness for SAGA and technology readiness. The IBM Special Package for Social Science (IBM SPSS) is utilised for the data analysis. The result of the study concludes that there is positive indication for technology readiness in implementing SAGA by the MPD employees. Optimism was found to have positive influence on MPD employees for SAGA readiness in terms of technology change. However, innovativeness has not yet become its predictor as the employees need to be able to comfortably use the new technology. While for discomfort, it was found that it was not a significant predictor to perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of using new technology. The last factor that is also not significant to influence readiness for SAGA is insecurity. The research concludes that the highest correlation value is between optimism and innovativeness. The findings also denote that only optimism serves as a significant factor that determines the MPD employees’ readiness for SAGA. As for managerial implications and suggestions, the MPD management should encourage positive and frequent communication, training, support system, expose to new technology, practice the right culture and positive work environment among the MPD staff. Full text link
Despite the technology included in the National Preschool Standard-based Curriculum, teachers in Malaysian preschool are yet to fully integrate technology to enhance children’s learning in the classroom. Concerns such as how the preschool teacher perceived the easiness of technology integration became our main focus in this study. It is believed that teachers’ acceptance and readiness influenced the outcomes of the technology used in teaching and learning pre-schoolers. This study employed a quantitative approach and data collection through a survey to investigate the teacher’s perception towards technology integration in the preschool settings based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). A total of 50 teachers in this survey were selected through random sampling from eight private preschools in Bandar Puteri, Puchong. Nevertheless, only 30 questionnaires were returned by the teachers. The survey was done through a questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale. The data has been collected and analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) to get the frequencies, percentages, and means of the teachers’ perception of technology integration in teaching and learning. This study found that teachers aged 30 to 39 have the highest perception of technology integration in teaching and learning, and Science and Technology is the most suitable area to teach children with technology
