    No full text
This study aims to examine prospective learners’ perceptions toward effective market segmentation strategies for Open Distance Learning (ODL) advertisements. A descriptive study was conducted to assess preferences based on the generational cohort. Self-administered questionnaires were used to obtain meaningful data from 282 potential learners in Malaysia. The potential learners were working adults based on generational cohorts, namely, Gen Z, Gen Y, Gen X and Baby Boomers. The study was conducted from October to December 2020. Based on the analysis, Substantiality and Accessibility between ODL institutions and the market were viewed by the majority of the respondents as more effective than Responsiveness and Identifiability. However, the standardised path coefficient shows that all variables are significant predictors of the effective market segmentation. Therefore, it is noteworthy to develop creative marketing strategies to attract the attention of a wider audience. The insights obtained can potentially assist ODL institutions to better understand the characteristics of effective market segmentation. The study adds to the existing marketing literature and has strong implications in both academic and ODL institutions, particularly regarding the aspect of prospective learners’ opinions pertaining to effective market segmentation

The initiative of the government to develop Mega Project such as Electrics Train Service (ETS) in the year 2015, consisting the railway from Kuala Lumpur to Padang Besar, Perlis and it helps to reduce the amount of traffic on road and lessen the time spent to travel from these two places. This project includes the building up of two unique Train Tunnels and categories as Twin Tunnel that are 3.3kilometre length in Bukit Berapit and 1.1kilometre length in Bukit Larut, Perak. The Twin Railway Tunnel in Bukit Berapit, Perak is the longest in Malaysia ever built. The development of this twin train tracks is brought by the local engineering expertise with the advisory by international expert. One of the important components of its development is to ensure the main build up standards and life safety in this twin railway tunnel project is given priority. Based on the statistics by Bureau of Transportation in United States, accident that involved in Train Tunnels are 11 accidents and resulting 343 death and 81 injuries with multiples factor most of it caused by electrical failure and results to fires. Based on the statistics, 2 most important safety element in developing Bukit Berapit Twin Railway Tunnel are life safety and properties of the building. The safety elements need to be considered are fire protection system and the fire retardant material. The preliminary concept of this project is using the combination of Italian Standards and NFPA 130, since there are no local standards to be referred. This research focused on the best standard practises from other countries for the purpose to evaluate the effectiveness of fire protection system used in Bukit Berapit Railway Tunnel. Stress levels can be raised by psychosocial risks, which can lead to physical and mental health problems. Low motivation, exhaustion, anxiety, sadness, burnout, and suicidal ideation are all possible psychological responses. Malaysia has one of the highest COVID-19 immunisation rates in the world. Although this is a huge accomplishment, we must keep in mind that it adds to the taskforce's workload. Between January 2019 and May 2020, there were an average of two suicide deaths per day. The Royal Malaysia Police Force, on the other hand, reported that suicide rates had doubled in the first five months of 2021. A mass vaccination centre in Kuala Lumpur was closed on August 6, 2021, after over 200 medical staff and volunteers tested positive for the coronavirus. Fear is rising among healthcare workers as a result of a previous occurrence like this, and the current emergence of the Delta strain of the Virus, and now the Omicron, can only alarm the healthcare family. According to a study conducted by American International Assurance (AIA Vitality), majority of Malaysian workforce unable to get enough sleep. One out of every ten Malaysian representatives is nervous or discouraged, with the majority of them being in their twenties and thirties. As is the case during a pandemic, healthcare workers are overworked. They must deal with the effects of public misconception, face stress from relatives, fear of contracting the obscure illness and becoming a carrier of the illness, and now seek protection from the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and vaccinations to which they have adhered during vaccination programmes. Frontline workers' mental health issues, particularly burnout and fear, should be addressed by policymakers. Future national and organisational interventions must include providing adequate social support, building self-efficacy and resilience, and ensuring frontline work willingness. (Abstract by authors

Parental modelling has become an essential reference for children to form desirable behaviours as children grow up. Therefore, parents must model appropriate actions for their children to observe. This quantitative study examined the relationship between parents’ awareness of their role as a model of technology usage and children’s engagement in online learning. Other variables explored concerning the main variables included parents’ perception of technology usage, parents’ technology usage, and children’s technology usage. The respondents in the study comprised 385 Malaysian parents and their four to six-year-old children. Data collected via a virtual platform or face-to-face interaction included parents from all the states in Malaysia. The findings indicated that parents’ awareness of their role as a model of technology usage was not related to their children’s engagement in online learning. Instead, it showed that parents’ perception of technology usage was positively related to their children’s technology usage, and children’s technology usage was positively related to their online learning engagement. Therefore, the findings imply that parents need to equip themselves with the proper perception of technology usage, as their perception may affect their children’s technology usage and engagement in online learning. Does the Number of Hours Spent on Learning Affect Academic Achievement?

Examinations are measurement tools designed to assess learners’ achievement of course learning outcomes. Past studies have shown that factors such as motivation and study time play a part in enhancing learner achievement in assessment. The objective of this exploratory study is to develop a Regression Model that will be used to identify the possible relationship between the learners’ study time with their academic achievement. An online questionnaire survey was administered to 98 respondents of year 1 distance learners of the Principle of Management course in the January 2021 semester at Open University Malaysia. The data on the self-report of study time by the learners for the two variables were analysed. A regression analysis via Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) analysis tool was performed to study the relationship between the study time (for completing the assignment and preparing for the final examination) and academic achievement. The findings of this study suggest that a regression model can significantly predict academic achievement. However, based on this model, only the study time allocated for completing the assignment appears to be significantly correlated to the course assessment achievement. It is hoped that the findings gathered will lay the foundation for future research that take into consideration other relevant factors associated with study time and academic achievement
