Get PDFKertas ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan mengenai sejarah pengajaran dan pembelajaran Pendidikan Islam di masjid dan kaedahnya. Pertamanya penulis cuba menonjolkan beberapa buah masjid terkenal di dalam sejarah Islam, khasnya di Asia Barat dan di Andalus. Ini termasuklah Masjid al-Nabawi, Masjid al-Haram, Jami’ al-Umawi, Jami’ al-Mansor dan lain-lain. Seterusnya penulis akan mencadangkan beberapa kaedah pengajaran dan pengajaran untuk diaplikasikan di masjid dan surau demi untuk mempertingkatkan keberkesanan pengajaran dan pembelajaran dan juga untuk menarik minat generasi muda agar sudi menghadirkan diri di masjid-masjid dan surau bagi mengikuti kelas-kelas pengajian serta mendalami ilmu-ilmu Islam. Efficacy and Cost-Effectiveness of Three Broad-Spectrum Herbicides to Control Weeds in Immature Oil Palm Plantation.
No full textEfficacy and cost-effectiveness of three herbicides (paraquat, glufosinate ammonium, and glyphosate) were evaluated at the MAB Agriculture-Horticulture Sdn. Bhd. Plantation, in Sepang, Malaysia from February 2004 to October 2005. The experimental design was RCBD with four replications. Each plot size, with the measurement of 4.8 x 20.5 m, was used for three oil palm plants. There were 13 treatments applied at the respective rates (namely, paraquat at 200, 400, 600, 800 g a.i. ha-1, glufosinate ammonium at 200, 400, 600, 800 g a.i. ha-1, glyphosate at 400, 800, 1200, 1600 g a.i. ha-1) and an untreated check as a control. The rates for the herbicides cover their field recommended rates (paraquat at 400-600 g a.i. ha-1, glufosinate ammonium at 500 g a.i. ha-1, and glyphosate at 1000 g a.i. ha-1). Results showed that glufosinate ammonium and glyphosate gave better efficacies than paraquat as revealed by the data on the percentage of weeds killed, the percentage of weed growth reduction and the duration of effective weed control. Nonetheless, a similar efficacy did not always produce the same cost-effectiveness. The most cost-effective treatment was glyphosate (at 400 g a.i. ha-1), followed by glyphosate (at 800 g a.i. ha-1) and glufosinate ammonium (200 g a.i. ha-1) with the costs around RM108.95, RM160.70, and RM214.19 ha-1year-1, respectively. Meanwhile, glyphosate has the ideal criteria as the most cost-effective herbicide because it is cheap (at the current price of RM13.75 L-1), good efficacy at low dose, produces long duration of effective weed control, and lesser spraying rounds required year-1.[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR
E-Readiness among Learners in Malaysia: An Insight into Fresh School Leavers

education in Malaysian is facing a changing the delivering trend due to the effects of globalization, and
the speed of change in the growth of communication. A book by Scott The Globalization of Higher
Education has highlighted the radical processes of globalisation as implicating higher education as the
creator, interpreter and sufferer of such trends (Scott, 1998). Over the years, there is an increasing
number of higher educational institutions have embraced e-learning, however, with a lesser number of
higher education providers in Malaysia particularly private education providers as well as colleges
provides e-learning to their learners. Why is it so? There are still doubts and hesitation on the e-approach
especially for young school leavers who undergo their studies full-time. There are various dimensions of
e-readiness have yet to be explored such as learner readiness, management readiness, personnel
readiness, content readiness, technical readiness, environmental readiness, cultural readiness and
financial readiness. We wish to study on young learners’ readiness on e-learning only for this paper. This
study will be conducted in various public and private higher education providers whereby its respondents
are young learners. The outcome of this study will be useful for education providers to draw and provide
suitable learning pedagogy to their learners as well as potential learners in order to engage in an effective

Leveraging on New Technologies and Their Impact on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
Get PDFIn this digital age, there is little that escapes technologies. They influence the way we work and communicate, and are a mainstay for many businesses today. Higher education is similarly affected, as many of the latest teaching and learning innovations are built on the internet and web-based technologies. A well-equipped information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure is therefore essential for higher education institutions. ICTs provide the resources needed to complement the university’s pedagogy and delivery system, and they are important enablers for revitalising higher education and for inculcating a new teaching and learning culture amongst academics and students.
For an open and distance learning (ODL) institution like Open University Malaysia (OUM), technologies are indeed integral and represent the vital link between what is necessary and what is innovative. It is through technologies that OUM has been able to spread its wings in Malaysia and internationally as well.
This paper will illustrate the leverage of new technologies in a higher education institution as exemplified by OUM. A university’s ICT infrastructure must be continuously enhanced and improved in order to develop best practices and maximise the benefits of technologies in a holistic and comprehensive manner. Thus, this paper will also describe the way forward for higher education institutions looking to adopt even newer developments in technology. (Authors' abstract

Models With Failure Free Life - Applied Review and Extensions
No full textFundamental engineering considerations in many real-world reliability engineering applications result in the need for using a statistical distribution with a failure free life (FFL) parameter. These include usual failure time models as well as specialized repair time models (for maintenance planning) and breakdown voltage models used for voltage endurance studies of electrical insulations. In this paper, some commonly encountered statistical distributions with failure free life are described together with a review of practical applications. From the literature, the 3-parameter Weibull distribution has been found to be the most common statistical distribution used when failure free life is considered. Some estimation procedures for the 3-parameter Weibull distribution are discussed and a new modified maximum likelihood type approach which leverages on the empirical cumulative distribution function is proposed in this paper. Two case studies considering complete and censored data are discussed. (Authors' abstract
