IT Governance Awareness and Practices: an Insight from Malaysian Senior Management Perspective
No full textWhile corporate governance is now receiving due attention in the Asian region, IT governance (ITG) does not appear to be given much credence even though business processes today mandate IT. It is observed that awareness and practices of ITG do not seem to be widespread in the region. Using senior management sample data from Malaysian organizations, a study was conducted to determine the awareness and practices of ITG. Contrary to observation, findings indicated that Malaysian businesses appeared to exhibit awareness but ITG was only partially practiced. There was positive correlation between both concepts. Although the association was not causal, it revealed the potential tendency for awareness to cascade down to practices in an operating environment. ITG practices may be strengthened through senior management commitment and involvement, oversight committees, and real-world issues experienced by organizations such as the focus on IT creating tangible value to real stakeholders and the strategic alignment of IT to include the real business environment. Online In-service Teacher Professional Development in Malaysia: A New Possibility?
Get PDFPredominant forms of INSETT available have been known to be inflexible in terms of time and resources, not meet teachers’ actual needs, cause a loss of instructional time with students, and not incorporate sustained collaborative endeavors, nor offer further support after the program. In view of the increasing successful utilization of online in-service teacher professional development in complementing traditional forms of INSETT in other countries such as the USA, it is time that Malaysia seriously considers similar innovations. As such the purpose of this paper is among others, to examine (1) factors that would cause them to consider participating in online INSETT programs, (2) ICT self-efficacy, and (3) perceived value of various ICT tools for future professional development. Findings indicate that the in-service teachers sampled in this study were generally positive about online INSETT and appeared ready in terms of basic ICT competencies. (Authors' abstract
Unity lost? Reframing ethnic relations in Lloyd Fernando's Green is the Colour
No full textThis essay reads Lloyd Fernando's Green is the Colour (1993) against the “lost” (forgotten, erased) but recently recuperated histories of ethnic unity in Malaysia to challenge the state's account which paints the past as a time of disunity and animosity between the ethnicities essentialized as “races”. Specifically, I reframe the racial violence of “May 13, 1969” at the heart of Green is the Colour to argue that the novel gives the event a much more radical treatment than has been critically acknowledged. Instead of presupposing racial difference as the natural and spontaneous cause of the violence, the novel, I show, unmasks as myth the account by the state which renders its own complicity invisible

A statistical analysis using simulation on a lean manufacturing model
No full textThe research seeks to study a framework that integrates the characteristic of a process, the system and simulation which provides the realistic manufacturing system that is used for operational and decision making in order to minimize the cost (or maximize the profit) of the operating system in an organization. The research is developed into a specific case study focusing on a selected sample manufacturing plant that is derived from a supply chain model. The model is conducted using simulation software via PRO-MODEL to represent a model of a manufacturing system through two production method via one piece flow and mass production. The raw data were analyzed by the statistical software and theory to analyze the good production method of a manufacturing system. From the simulation software and statistical analysis, the good production method of a manufacturing system can be determined using quantitative method. (Authors' abstract
