Determinants of tax compliance intention: a review of non-economic factors

    No full text
Taxes are the primary source of income for the government. Tax collection is the most reliable method of fostering national development. In order to collect the correct amount of total national tax income, taxpayer compliance must occur. Because of this, any kind of tax non-compliance activity could result in large losses for the government. Tax compliance issues have received a lot of attention from scholars over the past few decades due to the pressing requirement to make sure that the tax revenue is sufficient to cover the budgeted national spending. This prompted thorough and in-depth examinations that exposed various viewpoints. Based on this, this research study examines the prior literature on the non-economic factors of tax compliance issues in order to emphasise the scope, methodology, and models employed by earlier researchers in order to identify research gaps and suggest those for future studies. Previous research's scope, geographic location, theories/models, and technique were all analysed to help with understanding the topic at hand. The report has also highlighted and made recommendations for important areas where future research should focus. Finally, it has identified the patterns of earlier studies with reference to these three elements

    No full text
This study aims to identify the factors which affect the consumers’ behavioural intention to adopt the Quick response code (QR-code) mobile payment. This study extends the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) with the personal innovativeness construct. This study reveals that performance expectancy, social influence, habit, price value, and personal innovativeness in information technology are significantly related to behavioural intention to adopt QR-code mobile payment. However, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, and hedonic motivation are found to be statistically insignificant. This study presents one of the few empirical works investigating the role of consumer innovativeness and thus validates the inclusion of personal innovativeness as constructed in mobile payment adoption research. Findings from this study provide valuable insights for mobile payment application developers and mobile payment marketing teams. (Abstract by authors

    No full text
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) has paved greater access to lifelong learning opportunities. The systematic process of assessing prior learning for gaining access to higher education and accreditations for courses is a game-changing movement in Malaysian Education. Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) introduced the Open Entry Admission System in 2006 and gave the mandate to the Open University Malaysia to be the pioneer for operationalising it nationwide. The main objective of introducing APEL in Malaysia is to democratise education and develop human capital. The enrolment of students entering open and distance learning (ODL) institutions through the APEL system has increased over the years. More universities have been appointed to be the assessment centres. However, there is a lack of studies investigating the performance of students who have undergone the APEL system for admission. Thus, this study aims to examine the academic performance of APEL students and how their demographic factors influence academic performance. A quantitative research approach will be employed to collect data on students’ academic performance based on the CGPA and demographic information. The population of this study was all learners under the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM). The results showed demographic factors such as age, marital status and type of programme does influence the APEL entrants’ academic performance (CGPA) This is significant findings as ODL institutions will be able to take necessary proactive measures to establish appropriate action for curbing dropout rates. No full text
There are many interventions introduced by Open University Malaysia in supporting its learners to successfully complete the programme that they have enrolled in. An example is the use of personality traits dimensions to predict learners' Lifelong Learning skills dimension. The research was carried out using a survey instrument which measures 34 items within six dimensions including the five dimensions based on the Big Five Personality Traits and the Lifelong Learning skills. The sample for this study was taken from the population of first semester learners during the September 2019 semester. All new learners are enrolled in one of the compulsory courses OUMH1603: Learning Skills for 21st Century. Data was collected online using the Survey Monkey platform within a-month duration. 411 out of 2546 (16.14%) responses were obtained. The data analysis was carried out based on descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling by using SPSS and AMOS software. The findings indicate that all dimensions have high Cronbach's Alpha scores (more than 0.8) which means that all dimensions are reliable. In addition, Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, and Emotional Stability showed positive correlations with the Lifelong Learning skills dimension. The instrument used in this study is able to support system and propose strategies for improving learners' Lifelong Learning skills. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR

    No full text
Online learning has become common since then and has become a necessity during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, online learning is not as simple as converting face-to-face learning to online, therefore preparedness and readiness to produce effective online courses, especially mathematics online courses are urgently needed. Student engagement is one of the issues that need to be addressed in online learning, in order for students to stay motivated, participated and completed the course. Besides, problem solving and critical thinking skills are the important skills for students to develop, especially in mathematics related course. Both skills are also part of the 21st century skills and have been emphasized in Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025. The problem-based learning (PBL) approach has been selected in this study as many studies have shown that PBL could enhance students’ learning in terms of their abilities and skills in applying knowledge, problem solving, practicing higher order thinking and self-directing and reflecting their own learning. Under the PBL approach, students are responsible for their learning whereas teachers are responsible to facilitate students learning. In this study, the quasi-experimental research design has been applied to investigate the effectiveness of PBL approach on student performance in a mathematics online course, which has been implemented via Blackboard. Besides, the quantitative research using correlation analysis and t-test have been used to study the relationship of student engagement with student performance, as well as the effect of age and gender of students on both dimensions. We concluded that the PBL approach has significant impact on student performance in our study. We also concluded that the age and gender of student has significant impact on their class attendance, but no significant relationship can be obtained in terms of the Blackboard clicks and performance. Some recommendations are provided for future studies. (Abstract by authors
