Impacts of internal audit on the financial performance of commercial banks in Malaysia

It has been widely accepted that an internal audit is a simple administrative function that involves reviewing documents, calculating assets, and reporting to the Board of Directors, Management, or External Auditors. Due to a lack of personnel and management support, as well as inadequate training and development, Malaysia suffers from significant Internal Audit deficiencies. Yet there hasn't been an in-depth examination of the above concerns with a focus on the fundamental causes of successful internal auditing, notably in commercial banks. Therefore, the current study examines the impacts of internal audits on the financial performance of commercial banks in Malaysia. In this regard, a descriptive research approach will be employed to address the research questions. (Absrract by author

It provides a flexible, learner friendly, and accessible approach to online learning to ensure that learners can study from anywhere, and at any time. Learners engage in self-learning most of the time. As a pioneer of ODL education, OUM responds to quality learning materials by leveraging Internet-based technology in order to support the learning process in an ODL setting. Main objectives: This study aims to obtain (i) students’ perceptions and actual usage of learning materials, learning modules in particular, and (ii) the importance of instructional design in learning materials satisfaction. Through this study, OUM will be able to obtain feedback from learners of the instructional design elements implemented in the modules. Methodologies: The basic design of data for this research paper was gathered from exploratory and survey questionnaires. The questionnaires were distributed to the learners via Google Forms in OUM’s learning management system (LMS) known as myINSPIRE. Feedback from learners in various programmes and learning centres were collected via online surveys for three semesters in the year 2019 (January, May, and September). Results: The findings show that from 969 learners for the January, May, and September 2019 semesters, OUM learners are very satisfied with their modules. The results of this study would be able to provide some insights to OUM on the quality of learning modules from the instructional design perspective. The study certainly benefits the university in taking action to improve the quality of modules focused on instructional design elements. Recommendation: Currently, the survey is focusing only on modules. In the future, we aim to conduct a more extensive survey to measure the learners’ satisfaction with our other learning materials, namely, interactive web-based materials and video lectures. This study utilised a self-administered questionnaire related to factors that motivate and deter nurses’ participation in CNE. Results: The results of this study showed that both factors that motivate and hinder CNE participation among the registered nurses were above the mean of 3.0 out of 5 scores. above theAll factors that influence have mean of more than 3.0. There is no significant difference between various categories of the department on factors that influence CNE participation among registered nurses at the selected private hospital in Penang; F (6, 81) = 0.558, p = 0.763 > 0.05. Conclusion: This study indicated that there is a need to develop an effective strategy for nurses to participate in the future CNE

Factors Influencing Behavioural Intention to Adopt the QR-Code Payment: Extending UTAUT2 Model

    No full text
This study aims to identify the factors which affect the consumers’ behavioural intention to adopt the Quick response code (QR-code) mobile payment. This study extends the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) with the personal innovativeness construct. This study reveals that performance expectancy, social influence, habit, price value, and personal innovativeness in information technology are significantly related to behavioural intention to adopt QR-code mobile payment. However, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, and hedonic motivation are found to be statistically insignificant. This study presents one of the few empirical works investigating the role of consumer innovativeness and thus validates the inclusion of personal innovativeness as constructed in mobile payment adoption research. Findings from this study provide valuable insights for mobile payment application developers and mobile payment marketing teams. (Abstract by authors

Since the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) as pandemic on March 11, 2020, containing its spread has been an international priority. COVID-19 is characterised by its rapid human-to-human transmission and the potential of asymptomatic cases to infect others. To reduce community spread, countries adopted unprecedented restrictions to isolate their populations to their homes - popularly termed “quarantine” or “social distancing” - and implemented social isolation measures that disrupt not only the economic sectors but also people's lives. Our life during the pandemic has changed tremendously in every aspect. Working from Home (WFH) and Fully online Learning is now the new norm. In early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary education environments, the methods of learning have changed. Educational institutions have drastically revised and changed their teaching and learning processes. Technology is fully leveraged to ensure the process of learning continues. Ready or not, students need to embrace the changes. For Open University Malaysia (OUM), which has long been leveraging technology in its teaching and learning, COVID-19 has resulted in further changes. We have fully migrated from traditional assessment to online assessment, this to cater to the government’s restriction of congregating physically. Examinations are now conducted entirely online. Learners have to answer MCQ exams or write essays for take-home-exams in the allocated time. In this aspect, we need to develop suitable exam questions to ensure the quality of assessment. Past studies have shown that these types of assessment are advantageous to adult learners. However, to what extent do these types of assessments influence student's performance? This study analyses the impact of online and traditional assessment on student performance. The results can be used to further improve the assessment method applied, leading to ensuring the quality of graduates in open and distance learning environments. (Abstract by authors

Classification of Learner Retention using Machine Learning Approaches

    No full text
Learner retention issues require a huge commitment from a university as the process of monitoring learners' re-registration status from the beginning of each semester until they graduate can be quite tedious. When the number of learners who re-register for a subsequent semester is low, it not only affects the university's image but also its ranking and reputation in the education sector. Therefore, the university must identify, at an early stage, the likelihood of a learner is not retained in the following semester. This study proposed to experiment with the classification methods for solving the issue of learner retention at Open University Malaysia by comparing three Supervised Machine Learning algorithms namely Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, and k-Nearest Neighbor. The performance of these algorithms was evaluated based on accuracy, precision, recall, and f-measure. It is determined that Support Vector Machine showed the best accuracy in classifying the learners' retention rate with 80% accuracy. The benefit of performing Machine Learning is that it enables the identification of at-risk learners at the earliest opportunity and therefore implement the earliest interventions to retain them.
