jika dibandingkan dengan kaedah tradisional “Chalk and talk’.

The purpose of the study is to seek understanding on the teachers' perceptions of the play-based approach implementation at private Islamic
preschool context located in Ampang, Selangor. This study employed
qualitative approach in collecting data and thematic method in analysing data.
The purposive sampling was used and data collection was done through semistructured interview. A total of 11 preschool teachers from three private
Islamic preschools located in Ampang, Selangor were selected purposively in
this study. The qualitative data was transcribed and analysed using thematic
method. The results of the study indicated that the teachers believed that play
is undeniably beneficial and impacted the children positively. However, issues
and constraints related to children, teacher, school management and parents
are discovered which lead to few suggestions towards improvement. This
research also reveals that training on how to deliver lesson through playbased approach is necessary for the preschool teachers. (Abstract by authors
Application of Micro-learning In Structured OER (SOER) for Online Learning
In today’s world, learners who are rapid in a self-pacing, tight schedule, and involves in a multiple tasks job are in favour to types of learning that is short with a quickly absorbs learning resources at a specific learning point. The content delivery relies on the complexity of the concept of the content itself. The learning structure needs to reflect the ordered relationship of intellectual skill (as stated by Jonassen, Hannum & Tessmer, 1989 p. 38). The tasks laid out in the learning structure depend on the complexity of the content. The content that reflects the skill and knowledge needs to be organized in an orderly and logical manner based on the level to create a clear learning path. The need for direct guidance is crucial in online learning. Kirschner, Sweller, and Clark (2006) conversely define direct guidance instruction as “providing information that fully explains the concepts and procedures that students are required to learn.” (As stated in Hmelo-Silver, Duncan & Chinn, 2007) The project aims to design a MOOC course that will be delivered entirely online. The project is also intent on exploring the microlearning techniques applied in the course design. Most of the content in the courses are OER that are structured (structured OER) through a scaffolding technique. The numbers of topics are limited to two (2) subjects for each course. Most of the content in the learning structure contains OER by creative commons (CC) license that can be shared, reused and remix. Microlearning techniques are used to formulate the framework of the entire instructional system from enrolment to certification. The outcome of this project is an initial learning prototype on an instructional design course delivered via a Moodle-based learning management system , so-called as TippingMind School of Learning (TMSOL). Media Preferences for Open Distance Learning Advertising Activities
The purpose of this paper is to examine prospective learners’ preferred media
channel with regards to open distance learning advertisements. This research
focuses on two types of media channels, i.e. traditional and new media. This
paper segments prospective learners based on their demographical
characteristics, such as gender and age. A descriptive study was conducted to
assess the media preferences based on generational cohort, and to measure
the differences in perception between genders. Self-administered
questionnaires were used to obtain meaningful data from 234 potential
learners in Malaysia. The study was conducted from February to March 2020.
Based on the findings, there is a significant difference in perception towards
open distance learning advertisements between genders, in which female
respondents appear more receptive towards advertisements. A majority of the
generational cohort rates social media as the most preferred media channel,
followed by newspaper and television. However, each generation has its
respective media preferences. The ANOVA results have revealed a slight
difference in academic advertisements and media likeability among
generational cohorts. This study adds to the literature of integrated marketing
communication. The findings have strong implications to both academic and
open distance learning institutions, particularly in the aspect of prospective
learners’ acceptance of advertisements in media channels. (Abstract by authors
The Influence Of Social Media In Marketing Communication Strategies Towards Reputation Building Of Open University Malaysia (OUM)
The study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of social media as a marketing
communication towards reputation building of Open University Malaysia (OUM).
Based on the previous studies, three factors have been identified known as content,
promotion and comprehensiveness of the information. The population of this study are
the students of OUM and the sample size were taken from students in Bangi Learning
Centre through convenience sampling technique. This study adopts a quantitative
research method approach with result of 211 respondents. To analyse the data, multiple
linear regression analysis was adopted in this study. The findings of the study have
shown enough evidences to support the hypotheses. All three variables indicated
significant results. Comprehensive information is the highest variable perceived by the
respondents, followed by promotion and content towards the reputation building of
OUM. The implication of the study brings more understanding on the importance of
enhancing the content, promotion and comprehensive information in the OUM social
media. This will lead towards increasing the student’s enrolment and improve OUM
brand equity. The conclusion of this study can be used to strengthen OUM reputation in
social media as an effective marketing tool hence becoming a source of reference for
students to choose Open Distance Learning (ODL) institutions to pursue their studies.(Abstract by authors
Development of a mobile financial planner application
Budgeting our monthly salary is essential to ensure financial peace of mind. This is true especially when it comes to family budget, standard of living, savings, and emergency funds. There are various ways of keeping track of our monthly spending but one device we use daily is a smartphone. This financial planner application is developed for smartphone running android operating system that calculate monthly utility bill prices by all electricity and water providers in Malaysia. The calculated values are then able to be saved into the application’s database to be viewed and evaluated. Android studio is used to develop the application with the programming language being Java. The application made analysing and budgeting monthly spending easier by keeping track of the amount of spending each month.(Abstract by author
Cybersafety in education for the 21st century: A comparative study of Malaysia and Thailand
Education for the 21st Century must recognise cybersafety issues faced by students in
schools. Cybersecurity threats are everywhere and students must be able to cope with
an environment where cyber threats and risks persist. What are these threats and risks
and how do students in Malaysia and Thailand handle them? This paper attempts to
compare and contrast cybersafety issues among school students in Malaysia and
Thailand. The sample for this survey comprised 1,896 students from Malaysia and
1,336 students from Thailand. The quantitative research approach was used to explore
and confirm relationship among variables. Four important factors influencing
cybersafety among students in Malaysia comprise i. availability of help through
significant others, parents and teachers (including counsellors), ii. accessing negative
sites, iii. tendency to hide things from parents, and iv. feeling of discomfort when
surfing negative sites. On the other hand, factors in Thailand include: i. ready
availability of help if bullied or proper avenues are available, ii. victim of
cyberbullying, iii. experiences of cyberbullying, and iv. experiences with accessing
negative websites. The findings showed high construct reliability and high construct
validity which was confirmed through Structural Equation Modeling. The study
showed that Malaysia and Thailand’s cybersafety issues differed significantly (p < .05)
in 6 constructs, i.e. i. existence of problematic situations or negative experiences, ii.
peer pressure, iii. parent-children gap, iv. sexting, v. cyber-bullying, and vi. dealing
with negative experience or mediation strategies. The study recommended the
following: i. parents in both Malaysia and Thailand should play a pivotal role in their
children’s well-being in cybersafety issues, ii. Malaysia and Thailand should develop
local-based strategies to suit local contexts in cybersafety issues, and iii. overcoming
new cyber risks in Malaysia and Thailand should follow best practices in other
countries which have successfully overcome them. (Abstract by authors
Teaching and learning via chatbots with immersive and machine learning capabilities
Chatbot is a computer program that simulates human conversation through voice
commands or text chats or both. Chatbots are designed to convincingly simulate how a
human would behave as a conversational partner. Chatbots with artificial intelligence
technology can be used to teach the students by turning a lecture in a series of messages
to make it look like a standardised chat conversation. The paper describes the
development of intelligent chatbots that had been built for Java programming course.
Most of the learning courseware/systems to learn Java programming language are
merely repository of static and monotonous contents such as hyperlinked online
tutorials, video lectures, etc. In order to address these shortcomings, seven text-based
conversational chatbots for the students to learn Java in an interactive and engaging
manners had been built. Each of these chatbots focuses on different programming
concepts or constructs. These chatbots support learning of Java via problem-solving
steps through “learning by doing”. The unique features of these chatbots are (i) The
chatbots are self-contained, interconnected and are able to initiate a learning process
for a particular learning outcome and provide feedback to a student as they are working
through problems; (ii) These chatbots are able to engage the learners’ in the “one-toone” session of the problem-solving process for more than one-hour through
conversing with a student; and (iii) It supports immersive learning in order simulate the
realistic scenarios and environments that give learners the opportunity to practice skills
and interact with the simulated tutor. These chatbots acquired its intelligence through
a hybrid approach that combines pattern-matching technique and machine learning
algorithm in order to formulate its responses. The feedback from the students who used
these chatbots and the effect of these chatbots on the students’ understanding of the
subject matter were favourable as discussed in the paper.
