An Empirical Study on Service Recovery Satisfaction in an Open and Distance Learning Higher Education Institution in Malaysia
This study investigated the relationships among justice dimensions (distributive, procedural, interpersonal, and informational), university image, service recovery satisfaction, and customer behavioural outcomes (trust, word of mouth, repurchase intention, and loyalty). This study adopted a cross-sectional survey approach and data were collected through a survey of 303 students of Open University Malaysia in Malaysia who experienced service failure and service recovery. The framework was tested via partial least square structural equation modelling, and the results revealed a significant relationship between justice dimensions and service recovery satisfaction in terms of procedural and interpersonal justice. Service recovery satisfaction had a significant effect on all customer behavioural outcomes investigated. University image did not have a moderating effect on the relationship between justice dimensions and service recovery satisfaction. Theoretical and practical implications of the study are discussed in this paper. (Abstract by authors

(Abstract by author
Online Learning Participation in an Asynchronous Environment: A Case Study in an Online and Distance Learning University in Malaysia
Learner participation is related to communication and interaction skills. This
study intended to identify the types of online interactions which occurred in a
selected first-year compulsory course and determine the relationship of online
interaction with course achievement. A sample of 116 learners were randomly
selected from the Introduction to Communication course offered to first-year
undergraduates at an open and distance learning university in Malaysia. Data
were extracted from online interaction reports, learners’ assessment records,
and a set of questionnaires filled by 20 respondents. The findings show that
interaction during online participation is primarily learner-instructor and learnercontent whilst learner-learner interaction is lacking. No pattern is found in the
learners’ online participation and course assessment scores. Appropriate
construction of online roles and an understanding of how communities of online
learners develop have been discerned from this research. These are important
in sustaining discussion forums in online learning. Monitoring students’
participation and patterns of participation could help instructors identify and
develop strategies to ensure successful course completion by the learners. (Abstract by authors
Enhancing the Achievement of Subject-Verb Agreement Among the Year 5 Students Using Word Bricks Game
The purpose of this study is to investigate the achievement of Subject-Verb
Agreement among Malaysian students of year 5 using the Word Bricks Game
and the students’ perception towards learning Subject-Verb Agreement using
Word Bricks Game. Subject-Verb Agreement is unavoidably necessary for
mastering English language which is taught as a second language in Malaysia.
Students who study English at a young age with simple and correct systems
would be successful communicators in the future. Students can only interact
efficiently in restricted circumstances if they do not learn Subject-Verb
Agreement. Furthermore, Subject-Verb Agreement is regarded as a vital
component of the study of language and ideas. Subject-Verb Agreement, in
reality, aids humans in analysing and describing their words. Word Bricks Game
was used to enhance the achievement of Subject-Verb Agreement since
students who used games to learn felt more inspired and excited about their
work. Qualitative research design is used in this study. The participants
comprised of 40 students from a primary school in Kuala Lumpur. Observation
and interview were used as the methods for data collection. Findings include
the interview responses from the year 5 students and opinions shared by some
English teachers, and researchers’ observations of the learning process of
Subject-Verb Agreement using Word Bricks Game. The findings showed that
year 5 students have positive perceptions towards the learning of Subject-Verb
Agreement using Word Bricks Game. They also have high-level of acquisition
of Subject-Verb Agreement using Word Bricks Game in the learning process. In
addition, English teachers shared their opinions on the important criteria of the
games which should be considered before teaching Subject-Verb Agreement. (Abstract by authors
Validation of Humanitarian Love Scale (HLS) through Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis
- Measuring love for humanity is an important step for developing a loving, caring and peaceful
community. However, there is a gap between a valid and reliable instrument to measure the love of humanity in
Malaysia. This study aims to validate the Humanitarian Love Scale (HLS) by using exploratory and
confirmatory analysis with a sample of 500 volunteers. The HLS is a set of questionnaires that has 50 items with
10 domains. It were namely Altruism, Philanthropy, Caring, Tolerance, Shared Values, Love of Kindness, Moderation, Obeying Law, Empathy and Social Responsibility. Two steps of analysis have been done through
Exploratory Analysis (EFA) and followed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The analysis was using SPSS
and Amos version 22.0. The Cronbach's alpha coef icient for subscale ranging from 0.660 to 0.818 and overall
scale 0.888. Finally, after the confirmatory process through CFA, there are only 29 items were chosen as an
HLS Instrument, with 9 new domains, excluding Moderation. The study found that HLS was a reliable and valid
scale to measure the love of humanity based on the domains measured. This study supports the conceptual
framework and provides practical implication in the field of social psychology and psychological testing. (Abstract by authors
