Monocytes as non-specific immune cells provide an early response to pathogens and foreign objects that enter the body. When exposed to pathogens or foreign objects, monocytes experience an increase in the number of free radicals. Free radicals activate phospholipase enzymes that break down membrane phospholipids into phosphate, glycerol and fatty acids. Unsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) react with free radicals to undergo peroxidation to produce malondialdehyde (MDA). It takes antioxidant compounds that can reduce excess free radicals in the body. Coffee grounds as solid waste from the consumption of processed coffee products are not used and disposed of, it is suspected that they can be used as antioxidants. This study aims to determine the effect of coffee grounds steeping antioxidants on the profile of MDA levels in monocytes stimulated by the S. mutans exotoxin (In Vitro). Research was done in experimental post test only control group design. The object of this study was human peripheral blood monocytes, which were isolated by the Gradient Density method. Following in vitro exposure to the exotoxin S. mutans, the monocyte isolates were subjected to treatment with brewed coffee grounds extract at three different concentrations (0.25 mg/ml, 0.50 mg/ml, and 0.75 mg/ml). The MDA levels were subsequently determined by employing the TBArs method on a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results of MDA levels were analyzed using One Way Anova and LSD. The MDA level data showed significance (p<0.05) with the average MDA level in the Negative Control group1.49 g/ml; Positive Control 10.62 g/ml; T1 8.15 g/ml; T2 6.59 g/ml; and T3 4.69 g/ml. It can be concluded that the extract of brewed coffee grounds can reducing MDA levels in monocytes exposed to the exotoxin of S. mutans

Traumatic ulcer is one of the disorders of the oral cavity that can be caused by mechanical, thermal, and chemical. Patch one of traumatic ulcer treatment choice are being developed, but the available patch is uneconomic and have side effects. Therefore, the use of natural ingredients is an alternative treatment, such as pomegranate. Pomegranate is known to contain bioactive elements, that can act as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, that it can accelerate the healing of traumatic ulcers. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the pomegranate extract patch on the acceleration of ulcer healing. Sample in this research were 25 traumatic ulcered wistar rats which were divided into 5 groups. All groups were condensed the pomegranate extract patch with a concentration of 12.5%; 25%; 50%, positive control (taisho patch), and negative control (placebo). The red pomegranate extract patch can accelerate the healing of traumatic ulcers. There was a significant difference in healing time between all groups (p<0.05), except between the positive control group with a concentration of 50%. pomegranate extract patch affected the acceleration of ulcer healing, with a concentration of 50% pomegranate extract patch was the fastest

Oral health is a condition when a person can do functions like eating, smiling, speaking, and being free from chronic pain, diseases, and disorder. The Brassicaceae family, which includes cruciferous vegetables, is believed to contain a large number of bioactive substances that can be utilized as an agent to maintain oral health conditions. This review aims to analyze bioactive compounds in cruciferous vegetables that affect oral health. Sulforaphane, Indole-3-Carbinol, and Sulforaphane are well-known substances being researched as treatments for oral illnesses. At the molecular level, cruciferous bioactive chemicals impacted oral cancer, caries, periodontitis, salivary composition, and malodor in the mouth. Cruciferous plants offer a number of advantages for dental health when used as a food and medicinal tool. In the fight against oral cancer, I3C showed significant advancements. Additional research needs to be done on the many chemicals obtained from cruciferous plants and the effects of their combination

Technological developments do not allow people to be free from anxiety regarding dental care, such as extractions and odontectomies. Anxious reactions arise when an action is about to be carried out that they find frightening. The aim of this study was to compare the level of patient anxiety between odontectomy and tooth extraction at RSGM UMY. Fifty-four patients underwent tooth extraction and odontectomy at RSGM UMY. The odontectomy group and tooth extraction group each consisted of 27 patients, who filled out a 5-question questionnaire. The Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) is used to measure the level of anxiety in patients. The data obtained were analyzed using the Mann Whitney test in SPSS. The odontectomy group showed a significant increase in anxiety as measured by the MDAS questionnaire (p<0.05). Based on the results of the questionnaire on five question points, it was found that the patient's anxiety level was more dominant when given anesthesia before the extraction procedure. Patient anxiety is higher in patients undergoing odontectomy compared to tooth extraction

Informed consent is not only used in the treatment of adult dental patients but also refers to children before any action is taken. Not all dentists provide informed consent due to lack of knowledge and time constraints. Objective: This study aims to determine the attitude of dentists in providing informed consent to pediatric patients. The research strategy taken was a literature review obtained from the academic databases Google Scholar, ProQuest, and Science Direct. Search for articles using the keywords "Informed Consent", "Pediatric Dentistry", and "Dental Care" using Prisma Method. Giving informed consent to pediatric patients must be accompanied by parental consent. Pediatric patients who can be consulted also need to be given information regarding the treatment that will be carried out. Dental care procedures that were routine and were considered not to be risky do not require written informed consent. Conclusion: Dentists must pay attention to filling out informed consent for pediatric patients to avoid lawsuits for undesirable events

Vasoconstrictors are commonly used with local anesthetics to control pain in dental practice. This is related to the role of vasoconstrictors in the alpha 1 receptor smooth muscle of peripheral blood vessels. Vasoconstrictors are able to constrict peripheral blood vessels in the area around the injection site, so that there is a decrease in absorption of local anesthetic drugs in tissue. These conditions also contribute to the prolongation of the duration of action, the depth of anesthesia and the systemic reduction in drug toxicity. The aim of study to assess the recent vasoconstrictor that used in dentistry. Vasoconstrictors in local anasthesia can constrict peripheral blood vessels and have a negative effect on the vicinity of the injection site. These negative effects include prolongation of the bleeding process after surgery and inhibition of the wound healing process. Negative effects of vasoconstrictors are also associated with vasoconstrictor interactions with other types of drugs in dental practice. The use of vasoconstrictors can be very dangerous for patients with a history of cardiovascular disease such as unstable angina, ventricular tachycardia, fibrilar tachycardia and others. Understanding of vasoconstrictor pharmacology, vasoconstrictor interactions with other drugs, clinical use and contraindications to vasoconstrictor use are very important

When aging, elderly people are expected to have a good quality of life. However, the elderly are vulnerable to various dental and oral health problems such as dental caries. The impact of tooth decay affects the quality of life of the elderly regarding oral health (Oral Health Related Quality of Life). The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between risk factors for dental caries and the quality of life of the elderly in Jember district. This research was conducted from January to March 2022 in three sub-districts in Jember Regency. The total number of respondents required is 168, who are classified into the pre-elderly group (45-59 years) and the elderly group (≥60 years). The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire. Risk of dental caries using a questionnaire based on CAMBRA (Caries Management by Risk Assessment) and Quality of life related to dental health using the OHIP-14 questionnaire. The data analysis method used was statistical analysis using the Spearmen non-parametric correlation test; with a significance level of 0.01. Spearman correlation analysis shows a high correlation indicated by a figure of -0.580(**), which means it falls into the range 0.51–0.75 which is defined as having a strong relationship in the negative direction. The higher the risk factors for caries in the elderly in Jember district, the lower their quality of life
