Perbedaan Efektifitas Antibakteri Ekstrak Daun Sirih Merah (Piper crocatum) pada Porphyromonas gingivalis dan Streptococcus viridans
Dental caries and periodontal disease has been experienced by about 90% of the people of Indonesia. Porphyromonas gingivalis is a major cause of periodontal disease particularly periodontitis. Streptococcus viridans is a cause of the disease and root canal pulp. Both microorganisms are gram-negative and gram-positive anaerobic bacteria. Periodontal disease and dental caries can be prevented by reducing bacteria on teeth using antibacterial material. The red betel leaf extract as traditional plants can be used as an antibacterial material. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in the effectiveness of antibacterial extract of red betel leaf (piper crocatum) in Porphyromonas gingivalis and Streptococcus viridians. This study used 16 diffusion wells and divided into 2 groups: group I Porphyromonas gingivalis were given red betel leaf extract and Streptococcus viridans group II were given red betel leaf extract. The wells diffusion incubated for 24 hours at 37 ° C and it measured the inhibition zone diameter. The results showed that the average diameter of inhibition zone Porphyromonas gingivalis were given red betel leaf extract is greater than Streptococcus viridans. Independent T-test results showed significant differences in both the test group (p <0.05). Conclusion The study showed that the antibacterial power of red betel leaf extract in Porphyromonas gingivalis is more effective than the red betel leaf extract in the Streptococcus viridians
Perubahan Histologis Jaringan Pulpa sebagai Respon terhadap Aplikasi Bahan Etsa
Etching agents which are widely used in adhesive restoration aimed to increase retention of restorative materials, may act a chemical irritant that induce inflammation of dental pulp. Odontoblasts which are located at the periphery of the pulp, are the first cells encountered by irritant and infectious agents. This research aimed to elucidate the responses of dental pulp to 37% phosphoric acid and 19% EDTA application as an etching agents. Forty-five male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups. Cavity preparation was made on the occlusal surface of maxillary first molar. 37% phosphoric acid, 19% EDTA and distilled water were applied on the surface of the cavity of the teeth in group I, II, and III subsequently. The cavities were filled by glass ionomer cements. The rats were sacrified at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 14 days after the treatment (n=3 for each day). The specimens were then processed histologically, stained with Hematoxylin Eosin. In intact teeth showed histological features of normal pulp tissue with no inflammation, odontoblast layer were aligned along the pulp chamber with normal morphology of cells. Severe inflammation was observed after 37% phosphoric acid application, odontoblast layer could not be observed in the areas below the cavity. Slight to moderate inflammation and disorganization of odontoblast layer were seen after application of 19% EDTA. In conclusion, application of 37% phosphoric acid induces severe inflammation and disorganization of pulp tissue than 19% EDTA
PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN ASAM LAKTAT SEBAGAI ENHANCER TERHADAP PENETRASI PERKUTAN KAFEIN DALAM BASIS GEL
Caffeine is a drug which is effective as an anti-cellulite. Caffeine works by slowing down the lipogenesis process and accelerating the lipolysis process. In this research, caffeine was formulated in Sodium CMC gel base and lactic acid (0, 2, 4, and 6%) as enhancers. The aims of these research was to know the effects of lactic acid as enhancer on pH, viscosity, spreadibility, flowability properties, and percutaneous penetration study of caffeine gel. The results obtained that all formulas have fullfilled of all requirements and it can be concluded that lactic acid lowered the pH, increased viscosity, and lowered spreadibility. The highest flux was obtained the caffeine gel on concentration of 6% lactic acid is equal to 5.43 g/cm2 menit
PENATALAKSANAAN PASIEN CEMAS PADA PENCABUTAN GIGI ANAK DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN ANESTESI TOPIKAL DAN INJEKSI
In dental care, tooth extraction without injection (topical anesthetic), extraction with injection (anesthetic injection), and drilling are condition triggering anxiety of patients. Difficulty in dental treatment for children can be overcome by understanding psychological aspect of children in a certain age. Some principles in handling children are good psychological approach, effective management technique of patient, empathy, and supporting circumstances. Thus, it is advisable to consider some techniques which are successfully-proved in psychology and may be applied in dental care such as attitude development, Tell-Show-Do, desensitization, reinforcement, modeling and sedation
Efek Larutan Kopi Robusta terhadap Kekuatan Tekan Resin Komposit Nanofiller
Nanofilled composite resin is a restorative material that can withstand mastication force in the posterior region. The compressive strength of composite resin is influenced by beverages consumption. Robusta coffee is the most consumed beverages by Indonesian society. It is an acidic-beverage that containing chlorogenic acid, therefore coffee solution can be expected to increase water absorption and solubility of restorative materials. This study was aimed to know the effect of robusta coffee solution to the compressive strength of nanofilled composite resin. Samples were 64 discs nanofilled composite resin, diameter 5 mm and thickness 2 mm. Samples were divided into 4 control group (immersed in aquadest) and 4 treatment group (immersed in robusta coffee solution). Every group contained of 8 samples and immersed for 1, 3, 5, and 7 days. Compressive strength was tested by using Universal Testing Machine. It showed average compressive strength value of control group was higher than treatment group. It increased on 3rd and 5th day then decreased on 7th day. Compressive strength value in teratment group approximately decreased on 3rd, 5th, and 7th day. Nonparametric statisic analysis Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney showed no difference among control group and treatment group (p>0,05) according to immersion time (days). It concluded that robusta coffee solution decrease the compressive strength of nanofilled composite resin
AKTIVASI PEMAKAIAN JINTEN HITAM (Nigella sativa) TERHADAP RESPONS IMUN PADA GIGI YANG MENGALAMI INFLAMASI
Exposing pulp tissue will be followed by inflammation reaction, such as releasing host response products. Host response product can cause pain, such as histamine, bradikinin, serotonin and prostaglandin. Nigella sativa contain some components that support immune system. The most component are thymoquinone, dithymoquinone, thymohydroquinone and thymol. Aim of this study ia to know effect of Nigella Sativa to immune response of inflammation tooth. Thymoquinon in Nigella sativa will induce lymphocyte activity. T lymphocyte will induce T helper, T suppressor, and T toxicity forming. They will play role in phagocytosis process

STIMULASI OSTEOBLAS OLEH HIDROKSIAPATIT SEBAGAI MATERIAL BONE GRAFT PADA PROSES PENYEMBUHAN TULANG
Bone has natural repair mechanism, but there are some critical sized defects which will not allow the tissues to regenerate themselves. The clinical success of bone graft is dependent on the formation of an intimate contact between the material surface and mineralized tissue. Osteoblast attachment, proliferation and differentiation must be optimized in order for the mineralization, necessary for this intimate contact to occur. One of the bioceramics are frequently used in biomedical applications as a bone graft is a hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite is a popular bone substitute material. The composition of hydroxyapatite crystals have an overview identical to hydroxyapatite in bone. This material is biocompatible, osteoinductive and osteoconductive, thus hydroxyapatite can be a medium for osteoblast to growth and improve the bone healing process
