Ekstrak Buah Delima sebagai Alternatif Terapi Recurrent Apthous Stomatitis (RAS)
Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is an oral mucosal lesion in the form of a single or multiple recurrent ulcer. The etiology is still not known, usually occurs in the second decade. RAS is more likely to strike in early adulthood with a tendency more often in women than men (3:1). The RAS precipitating factors are infection, trauma, hormones, emotional effect, fatigue, immunological disorders, nutritional disorders, and hereditary. Clinically RAS is in the form of ulcers that are round, single or multiple, varying in diameter, white-centered, redness in the edge, and painful. The RAS Classification: aphthous ulcers major, minor aphthous ulcers and herpetic form. Ulceration is a mucosal damage to the stratum basale, painful and interfere while chewing food. RAS can heal itself between 7-14 days and even more but the excruciating pain will torture the patient. Wound healing is a complex process that involves many elements which work in sync to achieve wound healing. Pomegranate is one of the widely studied medicinal plants for health. Pomegranate has benefits as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, immunostimulatory, cheap, easy to obtain, have no side effects. Pomegranate has very complex potential that can eliminate various predisposing factors in a single therapy and also can increase endurance. Based on this fact the purpose of this research is to theoretically study pomegranate as an alternative therapy for RAS biomolecularly. The conclusion is the active ingredient of pomegranate theoretically has the functions of anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, immune-stimulatory and can regulate the fibrosis process, so that pomegranate can cure RAS
POKET PERIODONTAL PADA BURUH PEROKOK
Background. Periodontal disease is a disease of the tissues supporting the teeth. Clinical signs of periodontitis is the presence of gingival inflammation, swelling interdental papillae, formation of pocket / gingival pocket and gingival recession. The increase of periodontal disease prevalence in smokers caused by poor oral hygiene and late diagnosis.Method. Reseach objective was to prove the factors that related to periodontal pocket. Study design was cross-sectional. The study population were 85 labours of loading and unloading at the Port of Tanjung Emas Semarang, the collection of data through interviews and clinical observations. Data were analyzed by chi-square test with 95 % Confidence Interval and Prevalence Ratio were calculated. Results. The results showed all respondents have periodontal pocket with an average depth of pocket were 1.4 mm. The proportion of periodontal pocket depth more than 1.4 mm (50.6%) and less than 1.4 mm (49.4%) were almost comparable. Factors significantly associated with periodontal pocket were the duration of smoking (p-value 0.04, 95% CI = 1.037 to 5.941; PR = 2.482), oral hygiene (p-value 0.023, 95% CI = 1.143 - 13.311; PR = 3.9), and saliva buffer capacity (p-value 0.011, 95% CI = 1.283 to 7.984; PR = 3.2). Conclusion. Smoke have a greater risk of periodontal pocket, therefore smokers should be given health education on dental and oral health maintenance in the form of brushing and regular dental plaque cleaning (scaling). Smokers need to reduce the number of cigarettes that smoked or quit smoking
Periodontal infection is a “silent killerâ€*
Periodontal infection contained at many pro-oxidatif toxity components which is easily spreading through flood circulation syslimicly, and potentially acts as antigent and induces inflamating response inflamation processes is a front line defence respons to infection. However it is very dangerous if inflamation is oceure is a vital asam such as in brain and heart, could be of a life threatering. The spreading of Periodontal infection through Blodd steam is usually asymoptpmatically. Thas patients are unaware that their left is in a thred Periodontal infection is a “silent killerâ€
PENGARUH PEMBERIAN INFUSUM DAUN SALAM (Eugenia polyantha W) PADA EKSKRESI ASAM URAT TIKUS WISTAR JANTAN
High degree of uric acid into blood or called hyperurecemia, could be caused by increasing of uric acid production, but excretion of uric acid that passed through renal decreased. Effort for overcoming, it was used drug that have diuretic effect. Bay leave was one of plant that can be used as diuretic. This study aimed to know ability bay leave (Eugenia polyantha W) to increase excretion of uric acid at male rats. This study was experimental laboratory study with pre and post control group design and used 30 sample male rats. The samples were divided into 6 groups. Before treatment urine of samples were taken in tubes for 24 hours. Then, samples were treated with high purin feeding and given bay leaves extract twice a day for 5 days. At 6th day, urine of samples were collected and centrifuged for getting urine sediment. They were observed and counted amount of uric acid sediment that use microscope. Result of anova test showed there are differences significantly amount of uric acid sediment for 24 hours at male rat urines, after they are given bay leaves extract in many dozes, aquadest sterile, and probenesid (p < 0,005). Bay leaves have ability to increase amount of uric acid excreation. Flavonoid that be contented in bay leaves can increase catch point in renal for producting urine and decrease reabsorbsion of uric acid through proximale kontortus tubule of renal, so excretion uric acid sediment increase. Flavonoid also had antioxidane effect that can inhibit xantine oxidase enzyme and reaction of superoxide, so formation uric acis is lower or inhibit. Conclution this study is infusa of bay leaves 100 % in many dozes cab increase excretion of uric acid sediment at male rats
PENGARUH PENYAKIT PERIODONTAL SELAMA MASA KEHAMILAN TERHADAP JUMLAH TOTAL LEUKOSIT DAN HITUNG JENIS LEUKOSIT
The changes of hormonal during pregnancy can increase the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Increased estrogen and progesterone can cause excessive response in periodontal tissues so easily happen inflammation of the periodontal tissues. The most important aspects of the inflammation is the leukocyte reaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of periodontal disease during pregnancy to the total number of leukocytes and leukocyte counts. Research procedures performed each trimester which includes examining periodontal index (PI) to assess the severity of periodontal disease and total leukocyte counts and leukocyte counts were taken from venous blood. The data obtained were analyzed with linear regression test. Statistical analysis showed that the higher the score PI will increase the total number of leukocytes. The conclusion of this study is periodontal disease during pregnancy may increase the total number of leukocytes and leukocyte counts
KELAINAN PADA TEMPORO MANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ)
Mastication movement is interaction of some component, such as teeth, mastication musclary, and temporomandibular joint/ TMJ. TMJ is connective joint between mandible and maxilla. In its function, TMJ need teeth and musculary that worked integrally and sinergitic. Tooth missing case, especially in posterior region, can cause disordes in mastication movement, and finally it caused TMJ disorder
TAKARAN DAN KRITERIA PASTA GIGI YANG TEPAT UNTUK DIGUNAKAN PADA ANAK USIA DINI (APROPRIATE AMOUNT AND CRETERIA OF TOOTH PASTE USED FOR EARLY-AGED CHILDREN)
ABSTRACT Dental caries in early-aged children still occurs frequently. One of its causes is the less dental hygiene, children are still incapable to maintain their oral and dental health independently. One of material to help in cleaning teeth is toothpaste. The choice of this material should be appropriate in order to obtain optimum dental hygiene and not result in negative impacts. The products available in the market generally claim themselves as the best one by showing their excellences e.g. brand, interesting package, low price, and quality. Those necessitate the customer especially parents to be selective in choosing appropriate toothpaste for their children. The choose of toothpaste should consider some aspects including the composition, development of child age, criteria required based on the age, product variant, and side effect. In conclusion, the criteria of the chosen toothpaste: should be base on safe package and interesting, colours, scent and taste liked by children
PENGARUH PASTA GIGI EKSTRAK DAUN TEH (Camelia sinensis L) TERHADAP JUMLAH KOLONI Streptococcus sp. PADA PERMUKAAN GIGI
Background. The primary step of caries process (cafited tooth) is plaque deposition on the surface area of teeth. The first variety of bacteria colonized in plaque is Streptococcus. This bacteria will produce sticky extracelluler gel which could trap another bacterias. The most effective method to prevent plaque accumulation is using mechanical way, such as brushing teeth. Herbal addition at toothpaste is expected to inhibit plaque deposition. Tea is one of herbal containing flavonoid which has an antibacterial. PURPOSE. This research is purposed for knowing the effect of toothpaste containing tea leaf extract (camelia sinesis L) to colony amount of Streptococcus sp bacteria on the surface area of teeth. METHOD. The type of this research is laboratory experiment using post test control group design in research approach. The subjects is 10 children under criterias, who are given an instruction of the proper way in brushing teeth at the first day. on the eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh days, subjects are instructed brushing their teeth using placebo toothpaste, toothpaste containing tea leaf extract in 5%, 10% and siwak toothpaste (positive control), then gargling twice. Take the plaque sample on the surface area of teeth after 1 hour. The plaque sample will be diluted and inoculated in agar media of Streptococcus. RESULT. Decreasing amount of colonyof Streptococcus sp. after brushing teeth using toothpaste containing tea leaf extrac
SIDE EFFECT OF DENTAL CERAMIC DEGRADATION
The use of ceramic as the material of denture fabrication is highly desirable because it provides excellent result of final treatment such as hardness resembling to enamel, not easily degraded, esthetically close to genuine color of teeth, stable and translucent. Basically, dental ceramics consist of materials which are generally considered inactive; however, porcelain hides some danger towardthe certain groups of people especially related to dental field such as dentists, dentist assistants, and laboraory groups of people necessarilly contact with the materials used in treatment, sush asceramics. Therefore, these groups are likely contacted with this materials more frequently and in higher dose, thus their risk of side-effect is also greater
