Periodontopathy bacteria cause periodontal tissue destruction by host cell activating system, such as prostaglandin. PGE2 induce bone resorption and MMP secretion (Academic report, 1999). Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is formed as a result of the metabolism of arachidonic acid. It participates in inflammatory response. Prostaglandin cause alveolar bone destruction by osteoclast activating. Beside it, it enhance calcium metabolism

    Public Health Center is one of the institution which produce medical waste. Medical waste must heve good management system because it can effect in public health. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the existing medical waste condition at this Public Health Center, and to evaluate the medical waste system management. That is needed to design a good medical waste management system. The type of research is descriptive research, which used primary and secondary data. Results of this study showed that the main medical waste source was emergency unit (UGD) with a generation rate of 76,06 gr/ day; where as smallest waste source was planning family unit and laboratorium unit with a generation rate of 12,5 gr/ day. The medical waste management system was not properly implemented. Medical waste management system based on the characteristic must be implementated to keep the public health

    Background. Fish scales are the waste that has not been utilized optimally. Fish scales in industrial scale(derived from fish fillet industry) can be utilized as a source of collagen, whereas in the household is usually justthrown away. Fish scales containing proximate, calcium, chitin, alkaloids, steroids, saponins, phenols hydroquinone,molisch, benedict, biuret and ninhydrin allegedly can be used as a stimulant of bone regeneration after toothextraction. Expected fish scales can provide a solution as a material that can accelerate the regeneration ofalveolar bone after tooth extraction are cheap, easily available and effective. The aim of this study was to know thepotential of fish scales as a material that can accelerate the healing process of soft tissues of the oral cavity, dentineand alveolar bone regeneration. The benefits of this study was this article can be used as a reference for studiesutilizing fish scales as a material that can accelerate the healing process of soft tissue, hard tissue regeneration, ofcourse it's cheap and easily obtainable. Discussion. Content of fish scales were similar to bone and also containsome property that have the potential as an antimicrobial. The antimicrobial properties of fish scales indicate qualifyas dental materials. The mechanism of healing of soft tissue of fish scales allegedly played by the alkaloids, steroids,saponins, phenols hidrokuinone, which can modulate immune cell activity. The others were suspected to regulatethe content of odontoblast activity, osteoblasts and osteoclasts and fibroblasts. The conclusion of this review that fishscales could potentially accelerate healing of soft tissues of the oral cavity, dentine and alveolar bone regeneration

    The leucocytes count and differential counting are routine blood test that have any significant role in diagnose and evaluation of disease or health. The aim of this study is to evaluated both in stress condition in animal model used Wistar male rat. Stress induced by electrical foot shock for 7 days. The result showed that leukocyte count in samples were higher than control (p<0.05). It was considered that stressor induce the adrenal cortex’s hormone secretion particularly glucocorticoid. This hormones caused movement of leukocyte in bone marrow storage to the vessel, leukocyte in marginating granulocyte pool moved to circulating granulocyte pool and and make the result of blood test is higher. This movement make the responds immunes to any injures worst and person with stress more susceptible to any infection

    NANCE AND MOYERS ANALYSIS STUDY ON MEASUREMENT OF AVAILABLE SPACE IN THE MANDIBULAR DENTAL ARCH

    The shape and size of dental arch plays an important role in determining the space available for teeth. To avoid crowding the teeth it needs the space provided (available space) is sufficient for the permanent teeth grow. Measurement of available space on the discrepancies in the diagnosis of orthodontic models generally use the analysis Moyers and the analysis Nance. The research was carried out by casting the lower jaw in 30 subjects. The cast is then measured using a brass wire available space on the analysis of Nance and digital calipers on the analysis of Moyers. The data obtained were then conducted a t test with a significance of p <0.05 to determine differences in measurement results available space mandibular dental arch based on the analysis Moyers and the analysis Nance. The test results obtained by using t test p value of 0.563 (p> 0.05). The resulting value shows that the size of the available space in the mandibular dental arch analysis Moyers and analysis Nance showed no significant difference, so that the analysis can be used to measure the available space mandibular dental arch in the permanent dentition

    Gene therapy involves the introduction of DNA or ribonucleic acid (RNA) into the target cell either to express or suppress the biosynthesis of proteins. The success of gene therapy is highly dependent on a suitable carrier system that can efficiently deliver genes in to specific desired cell with minimum cytotoxicity on target cells. Chitosan is interesting to be used as a gene carrier because it has a high positive charge and low toxicity to cells. Positive charge chitosan can form complexes with the plasmid. DNA complexes provide protection against enzymes degradation and promote internalization of plasmids that have been condensed. In this study the complex formation of chitosan-pEFneo-GFP and chitosan / TPP-pEFneo-GFP is by complex coaservation method. The results of complex analysis with a 0.8% agarose gel electrophoresis for 30 minutes 100Volt showed that the complex was stayed in the well and the plasmids did not migrate like plasmids which were dissolved in the water and buffer solvent. Stability evaluation in storage at room temperature for 14 days showed that the complex with chitosan concentration 0.02%-0.04% were the most stable, so that transfection analysis performed for the complex with chitosan concentration of 0.02%-0.04%. Transfection results showed that chitosan is able to protect plasmid and promote the internalization of plasmid into the nucleus and then expressed as a green luminescence. From these results chitosan potentially be developed as a carrier system in gene delivery

    Local anesthetics are believed to be the most frequently used drugs in clinical dentistry. Lidocaine and mepivacaine are commonly used in RSGM (Oral and Dental Hospital Jember University), although they are generally regarded as safe, some adverse reactions can be expected and do occur. This study was undertaken to know the effect of vital sign on mepivacaine in local anaesthetic on dental clinical use. Material and Methods: A total of 42 (14 males, and 28 females) healthy students of Faculty of Dentistry Jember University were included in this clinical trial. They were locally injected as block anaesthesia of inferior alveolaris nerve. Blood pressure, pulse, and respiration were examined pre and post injection. Result: Mean of respiration pre/post (18.7/1.8) p>0.05, pulse pre/post (79.8/79.9) p>0.05, and diastole pre/post (74.9/73.9) p>0.05, and systole pre/post (112.0/110.2) p>0.05. There were no clinical and statistical differences on vital sign between pre and post injection. Conclusions: Mepivacaine as local anaesthetic is clinically safe on vital sign
