Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Tissue Engineering
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have generated a promise as a potential source of cells for tissue engineering application due to their instrinsic ability to self-renew and differentiate into functional cell types. With their ability to differentiate into multiple cell phenotypes, mesenchymal stem cells offer the potential to regenerate entire tissue from a single cell source. Recent studies have demonstrated that MSCs were successfully used for bone repair, cartilage repair and soft tissue repair. This paper briefly outlines the biological characteristics of Mesenchymal stem cell and its application in tissue engineering field
INFEKSI Cytomegalo virus (CMV) PADA IBU HAMIL DAN MANIFESTASINYA DI RONGGA MULUT
Immune status in pregnancy was very impotant, because the effect for life to fetus andmother. If immune in pregnancy has’nt been attended, it will attack infection. Infection diseases was found in pregnancy was Cytomegalo virus (CMV) infection. Aims. This literature reviews purposes to information of CMV infection in pregnancy and manifestation in oral mucosa. Discussion. Infection in fetus could happen when mother could be reactivation, reinfection, it was assimptomatic and it ungiven sequele if it has been compared primer infection. That was caused maternal Ig G anti-CMVcould throug placenta and protective. Clinical symptom had been known from inflammation reaction. Oral manifestation could be vesicle and ulcer. Conclusion. CMV infection in pregnancy wasdanger infection for fetus and mother. It caused status immunity in pregnancy have been kept for prevent so that haven’t infection
PENGARUH NIKOTIN TERHADAP JUMLAH SEL LEYDIG PADA MENCIT (Musmusculus)
Nicotine which is one of toxic component in cigarette smoke had been reported to inhibit androgen biosynthesis and Leydig cell growth. Cigarette smoking alters plasma testosterone concentrations inmen. The effect of cigarette smoke can spoil sperm viability and spermatogenesis. It can cause hormonal condition and trigger the emergence of toxic substance on sperm that it can harm male fertility.The research design employed in this study was Post Test Only Control Group Design. The samples were adult male musmusculus. There were six groups of research subject chosen randomly after homogenization. Three groups were the control group and the other three were the experimental group. The subjects in the experimental group were injected with nicotine subcutaneously for one week, two weeks and three week with the same dosage namely 5 mg/kg bodyweight/day. The final observation was aimed at calculating the number of Leydig cell. The result of the one way Anova showed that the cell Leydig had a statistically significant difference on some experimental groups (p < 0.05). LSD test showed that there was significant difference between Leydig cells of P3 and K3; P2 and K3; P1 and K3. The conclusion of this research was that nicotine caused a decrease in the number of Leydig cell

Students of schools for disabled are more highly risky to have poor dental hygiene condition than that of the normal ones. They need more attention in order to possess the same condition as normal children. The present study animed at knowing the dental hygiene of students in elementary school for disabled in Bintoro District Jember Regency. The Approach used was cross-sectional. The result shows that there is no correlation between genders and classes existed and student’s dental hygiene
ANALISIS KESESUAIAN PENGGUNAAN ANTIINFEKSI PADA INFEKSI OPORTUNISTIK PASIEN HIV/AIDS RAWAT INAP DI RSUP DR. SARDJITO YOGYAKARTA
HIV / AIDS patients are prone to get opportunistic infections because of their low immunity level. The unappropriate treatment of opportunistic infections may result in morbidity and mortality. The research was carried out to analyze the use of anti-infective in the hospital. The study used a non-experimental and descriptive methods retrospectively from patient medical records. A total of 79 patients who met the inclusion criteria were analyzed descriptively. Suitability analysis based on the CDC and WHO guideline. Suitability analysis of drugs according to WHO and CDC in the case of TB / tuberculosis, candidiasis, pneumonia, PCP / Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, (hepatitis C, toxoplasmosis, hepatitis B, meningitis, CMV infection / Cytomegalovirus consecutively were 95.2%, 96.8%, 64.3%, 81.8%. Suitability candidiasis dose and frequency according to the CDC : nystatin: underdose (81.8%), overdose (2.3%); fluconazole: appropriate dose (20.5%), underdose (4.5%), overdose (72.7%); itraconazole: underdose (100%), according to WHO: nystatin: appropriate dose (40.9%), overdose (43.2%); fluconazole: appropriate dose (50%), underdose (50%); ketoconazole: appropriate dose (100%). Suitability choice of drugs on pneumonia, according to the CDC: beta-lactams (78.6%), macrolides (100%), quinolones (50%). Suitability of doses and frequency of the PCP: cotrimoxazole, underdose (100%)
SINTESIS DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI SENYAWA TURUNAN KALKON PADA STRAIN BAKTERI Bacillus subtilis DAN Escherichia coli
Disease caused by bacteria still have a high prevalence in Indonesia, both in urban and rural areas. Currently the treatment of diseases caused by bacteria carried by many antibiotics, whereas in reality antibacterial drugs like antibiotics are now causing a lot of resistance in some people. Because of this we effort to develop antimicrobial agents, a series of chalcones were 1-(4-Bromo-phenyl) -3-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-2-propen-1-on and 1-(4- Bromo-phenyl)-3-(3,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)-2-propen-1-on compounds.These compounds are synthesized on the basis of QSAR (Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships) using lipophilic, steric, and electronic parameters. Compound 1-(4-Bromo-fenill)-3-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-2-propen-1-on and 1-(4-Bromo-phenyl)-3-(3,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)-2-propen-1-on is made from raw materials 4-bromo-asetophenone and 4-Methoxy benzaldehide/3,4-dimethoxy benzaldehide usual Claisen-Schmidt condensation method of mixing for overnight 24 hours then be recrystallized to obtain a pure crystalline chalcones analog compounds. After the synthesis, compounds were characterized by organoleptic and melting point test. The results showed that a white color, smells aromatic, and needle crystals. The synthesized compounds were characterized by means of their 1H-NMR spectral data. All the compounds were tested for their antibacterial activities by the hole plate method
Aktivitas Antifungi Ekstrak Etanol dan Metanol Batang Pisang Mauli 100%
Background: North Hulu Sungai Banjarmasin people are using banana stem mauli to accelerate wound healing in the skin. Mauli banana stem extract contains antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. Need the development of traditional plants that can be used as a topical antiseptic drug in the oral cavity. Purpose: to determine the anti fungal affectivity of methanolextract of 100% mauli banana stem compared with the ethanol extract of 100% mauli banana stem. Methods and materials: pure laboratory experimental research with the completely randomized design using 3 treatments with 9 replications. Making 100% banana mauli stem extract by maceration method using the solution of ethanol and methanol. The sample was a pure culture of Candida albicans. Saboroud agar petridish were contained Candida albicans that have given filter paper soaked for 3 hours with100% methanol extract of mauli banana stem, 100% ethanol extract of mauli banana stem, and 0,2% Clorhexidine gluconate. Inhibition zone diameter of three treatments was compared after doing incubation for 1 day. It using the diffusion method. Results: Kruskal Wallis test of the three treatment resulted p value=0.00(p <0.05) that H0 was rejected, so it could be concluded that there were significant differences between the three treatments. Mann Whitney test resulted that the treatment of 100% ethanol was compared with100% methanol resulted p = 0.00 (p <0.05).There was a significant difference between the treatment of 100% ethanol and 100% methanol to the growthness of Candida albicans. Conclusion: The results of the study it appears that the banana stem mauli have antimicrobial activity. Methanol extract of banana stem mauli has a total flavonoids was higher than the ethanol extract of banana stem mauli. This makes methanol extracts had higher antifungal activity than the ethanol extract

Periodontitis is a chronic infection disease caused by periodontopathogen bacteria in the oral cavity. Severity of periodontitis can be affected by systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is occurred metabolic disruption that is characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin deficiency. Increasing blood glucose levels can lead to manifestations in the oral cavity in the form of inflammation of the gingival tissue, attachment loss and alveolar bone destruction. Periodontitis is one of the sixth complications of diabetes mellitus. There are inter- related relationship between periodontitis and diabetes mellitus
CORROSION RATE OF TITANIUM ORTHODONTIC WIRE AFTER IMMERSION IN ARTIFICIAL SALIVA
Various types of metallic orthodontic wire and brackets stainless steel, cobalt-chromium-nickel alloy, nickel-titanium alloys, beta-titanium alloy are use in the treatment of malocclusion. For correct of orthodontic appliance one must have a thorought knowledge of the material from wich these appliance are made. The mechanical and physical properties of these materials change greatly under variying condition of manipulation.These metals undergo chemical or electrochemical reactions with the oral enviroment resultilting in disssolution or formation of chemical compounds. Under several situations thr oral enviroment is highly aggresive and leds to corrosion. An in vitro study to measure the behavior of corrosion on Beta III Ti and CNA orthodontic archwire has been done. The aim of this study was to calculated the corrosion rates of orthodontic archwire. The rectangular 0.017x0.025 Beta III Ti (3M Unitek) dan CNA (OrthoOrganizer) were used in this study. To measure the corrosion rates the weight loss and planed interval test method has been used. Data was tasted and analized using Between Subjects Effectc and Multiple Comparation test .. The result show the corrosion rates of CNA was higher than Beta III Ti
