Gambaran Status Kebersihan Mulut Pada Pasien Geriatri Di Puskesmas Sentolo Kabupaten Kulon Progo Yogyakarta
The number of elderly people in Indonesia is increasing every year. Increasing age in the elderly is degenerative resulting in non-communicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension. DM and treatment of hypertension cause hyposalivation so that the self-cleansing effect is reduced and dental and oral hygiene worsens. The aim of this study was to describe the status of oral hygiene in elderly prolanis participants at Puskesmas Sentolo 1, Kulon Progo. Type of research is descriptive observational with a crosssectional, using a total sampling technique and obtained 88 respondents. The study was conducted on elderly prolanis participants aged ≥60 years at Puskesmas Sentolo 1. The variable measured was the status of dental and oral hygiene with the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S) instrument. The data obtained is then categorized as good, moderate, or bad and presented in the form of a frequency distribution. The results of the study showed the status of dental and oral hygiene in the good category (0%), moderate category (10.2%) and bad category (89.9%). The male has the most status of bad dental and oral hygiene, the age range 60-69 years with systemic disease hypertension has the most status of bad dental and oral hygiene, the type of work of housewives has the most status of dental hygiene and bad mouth, elementary education level has the most bad dental and oral hygiene status. Most dental and oral hygiene status is in the poor category in the elderly with female sex, age range 60-69 years with systemic hypertension disease, type of housewife job and elementary school level of education
Pencegahan Relaps Postorthodntic dengan Pemberian Kopi yang mengandung kafein pada Tikus
Orthodontic relapse can be defined as the tendency for teeth to return to their pre‐treatment position. Coffee is one substance whose effects on relapse have been extensively studied. The aim of this study was to analyze coffee administration containing caffeine on the osteocytes count in rats. This experimental laboratory study enrolled Spraque dawley rats, with brackets applied using Edgewise slot 0.022” system and a nickel-titanium open coil spring fixed between the lower central incisors for 14 days. Based on Federer’s formula, 36 Spraque dawley were randomly divided by simple random sampling into four groups: Group 1 (no retention), Group 2(retention for 3 days), Group 3(retention for 7 days), and Group 4(retention for 2 weeks). The Spraque-Dawley rats in the four experimental groups were given aquadest, 50 mg, and 100 mg/kg coffee intake ad libitum. Orthodontic relapse was assessed by measuring changes the number osteocytes between the lower central incisors (the relapse side). The number of osteocytes was examined using hematoxylin–eosin staining. Data analysis was conducted with the Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and a post hoc Tukey test. Significant differences were observed in the control and treatment groups and the time of observing osteocytes count levels (P < 0.05). Osteocytes counts in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group. coffee administration containing caffeine encourage postorthodontic relapse prevention by increasing osteocytes count in rats
Hubungan Sikap Pemeliharaan Kesehatan Gigi Dengan Status Kebersihan Gigi Pada Lansia Peserta Program Pengelolaan Penyakit Kronis (Prolanis)
Oral hygiene is crucial to oral health, especially in the elderly. Elderly people in Indonesia reaches more than 10% of total population. Increasing elderly is also a challenge to maintain their oral health. Elderly people experience decrease in their ability to maintan oral hygiene care, this condition can be influence by attitude which can deteriorate their oral health conditions. To increase the awareness of oral care behavior among the elderly, oral care attitude plays a critical role in daily dental practices. Oral care attitude in elderly's perspective is needed to assess or behave in maintaining oral hygiene to avoid disease. The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between oral care attitude with oral hygiene status in elderly chronic disease management program (Prolanis) clinic pratama PKU Muhammadiyah Srandakan Bantul Yogyakarta. This is an observational analyitic with a cross sectional study. Clinical examinations were performed on 55 elderly to assess the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S). Face-to-face interviews were applied to attitude for oral care through a questionnaire, which consisted of questions regarding demographic characteristics and oral care attitude. Data were analyzed using a gamma correlation test. Most of the oral care attitude in moderate category (49.1%), %) and the OHI-S moderate category (41.8%). The statistical test results showed that p-value = 0.000 (<α: 0.05) was statistically significant. There is a significant correlation between oral care attitude with oral hygiene status of the elderly Prolanis clinic pratama PKU Muhammadiyah Srandakan Bantul Yogyakarta
Laporan Kasus : Ekstraksi Open Method Disertai Kista Radikular Pada Regio Gigi 24
Radicular cyst is a cyst that is often found in the anterior maxilla and is difficult to detect when it is early in development. It is difficult to distinguish radicular cysts from chronic periapical periodontitis lesions so that radiographic examination is needed first. The purpose of this case study is to provide an overview of the tooth extraction procedure and the management of radicular cyst cases. An 18-year-old female patient came to the RSGM IIK, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a complaint of remaining roots on the upper left back teeth. The patient said that the teeth had been extracted by a dentist but not all of them had been removed. The patient felt uncomfortable and disturbed when eating. Intraoral examination showed remaining roots of tooth 24, druk (-), reddish and edematous gingiva (-). Management of the patient in this case was extraction of tooth 24 using the open method technique
Optimalisasi Produk Bakteri sebagai Strategi Antikanker dalam Imunoterapi Kanker Mulut: Review
The microbiota in the mouth cavity is implicated as a causal factor in infection and inflammation, particularly exacerbating prognosis in cancer. Several known microorganisms have can exhibit oncolytic activity against specific tumors. This study aims to compile and summarize publications discussing the impact of bacterial products on oral cancer as potential therapeutics. The focus themes were derived via a scientific search engine, summarizing data from reviews that referenced the keywords pertinent to the investigation the cytotoxic effects of the bacteria have also been seen in solid tumors, inhibiting their progression. We anticipate that giving this title may present new opportunities concerning bacterial products as resources for insights into developing therapy for oral cancer
Profil Proporsi Streptococcus mutans pada Beberapa Lesi Karies dengan Tingkat Keparahan Berbeda
Dental caries is a common bacterial infectious disease that affects tooth structure, with Streptococcus mutans being associated with its severity. This study aimed to assess the distribution of S. mutans proportions across various levels of carious lesions as a potential prognostic factor. A post-test-only control group design was conducted on 33 patients registered at RSGM UMY who fulfilled the sample criteria with caries-free teeth, severe cavities, reversible pulpitis, and pulp necrosis. DNA samples were extracted and analyzed using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique and semi-quantitative densitometry analysis using Image-J. Statistical analysis was performed to compare S. mutans proportions across different lesion categories. The study found non-significant variations in S. mutans proportions (p>0.05) among the observed groups, with the highest population levels observed in the ICDAS V group (34.53±23.09), followed by the pulp necrosis group (24.41±15.48), reversible pulpitis group (11.14±1.36), and the caries-free teeth group (6.95±2.57). In contrast, the lowest proportions of the population were found in caries-free and reversible pulpitis conditions. Although S. mutans is associated with caries, its presence alone does not fully explain and correlate to the lesion severity

Komposit Bioactive Glass Berbasis Silika Abu Ampas Tebu dan Gum Mimba Menstimulasi Proses Remineralisasi Permukaan Gigi
Dentin hypersensitivity results from exposed dentinal tubules. One of the treatments used is remineralization of dentin and cementum. Bioactive glass (BAG) is a material that can stimulate the remineralization process due to its silica content. Sugarcane bagasse contains high levels of silica and is used as a BAG material. Adding binders and emulsifiers to paste forms increases bonding and stability and makes application easier. Neem gum is a polysaccharide, has emulsifying properties, and can unite two or more ingredients with different properties, increasing the strength of the ingredients. The study aims to analyse the effect of neem gum and bioactive glass composites based on silica bagasse ash on tooth remineralisation. There were three research groups, namely control (BAG paste), treatment A (hyaluronic acid BAG paste) and treatment B (BAG paste, hyaluronic acid and neem gum). The injection paste was applied to the teeth [using cow teeth] on the mesial surface, then soaked in artificial saliva for six days and stored in an incubator at 370C. The remineralization process was observed by forming hydroxycarbonate apatite (HCA) on the tooth root surface using a scoring method based on the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) results. CA formation in the BAG, hyaluronic acid and neem gum composite group had a significantly (p<0.05) higher HCA formation score than the group without gum. The control group experienced a washout, so no HCA was formed. BAG composite paste with silica based on bagasse ash and neem gum stimulates the remineralization process marked by the formation of HCA on the tooth root surface
