Serological investigation on swollen head syndrome in Indonesia
Clinical signs indicated that Swollen Head Syndrome (SHS) was suspected to be present in Indonesia. Serological investigation was carried out by collecting a number of 242 serum samples from Tangerang, Bogor, Cianjurm Ciawi, Cicurug dan Magelang, tested using serum neutralization (SN) test. The results of SN test indicated that SHS has been identified in these investigation areas. Based on the fact that these are the center for parent stock breeders it could be suspected taht the disease might have been speread to several areas of chicken farms in this country.It would be wise if a control program be formulated since this time, to ensure that everything is well prepared in case SHS situation develops into unfavorable condition

Developmental capacity of goat oocytes collected from 5°C preserved ovaries
Research has been conducted to study the effect of ovaries preservation at 5°C on the oocytes development capacity i.e the capacity of oocytes to undergo in vitro maturation (IVF), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and in vitro embryo development. Goat ovaries were abtained from slaughterhouse in saline solution containing 0.1% Bovine Serum Albumine (BSA) and antibiotic and kept at 5°C for 3 and 12 hours. As control, untreated ovaries were kept for 3 hours at 30-35°C, the temperature usually used for ovaries transportation. The oocytes were aspirated from follicles with 2-5 mm in diameter using 20G needle connected to a 5 ml syringe containing modified phosphate buffered saline (mPBS). The aspirated oocytes were incubated in 100 µl micro drops of tissue culture medium -199 (TCM-199) supplemented with 10% newborn calf serum (NBCS), 0.01 mg/ml follicle stimulating hormore (FSH) and 50 µg/ml gentamycine sulphate for 24 hours at 38.5 °C in 5% CO2 incubator. In vitro fertilization (IVF) was done in CO2 incubator at 38.5 °C for 18 hours using fresh semen. Inseminated by their nuclear status after aceto-orcein staining. The results showed that the avarage number of morphological normal oocytes collected from 5 °C preserved ovaries were significantly lower than from the untreated control ovaries. After 24 h incubation the percentage of matured oocytes from the 3 ang 12 h preserved ovaries were 85.3± 2.8% and 75.5± 2.2%, respectively (
Karakteristik histologi perkembangan folikel ovariumfase luteal pada kancil (Tragulus javanicus)
The lesser mouse-deer (Tragulus javanicus) is one of the Indonesia biodiversity. This animal distributes only in South-East Asia and Hindia. The lesser mouse-deer is the smallest ungulate in the world and regarded as an ideal model to biomedic and ruminant research. As their population becoming extincted, conservation efSort is very important. One of the eflorts in supporting the lesser mouse-deer conservation is by improving our knowledge reproductive physiology of the female lesser mouse-deer. The aim of this study was to investigate the histological characteristic of ovarian follicles development of the female lesser mouse-deer. Experiment was done on the ovary (n=4). The ovary was fixed in Bouin solution andprocessed according to standard of histology. The slides were stained in HE. At luteal phase, the developing follicles can be classified into 10 stages. The number of developing follicles in the left ovary were higher then in the right.
Perilaku nyamuk anopheles punctulatus dan kaitannya dengan epidemiologi malaria di desa Dulanpokpok Kabupaten Fakfak, Papua Barat
Malaria is a major health problem in Fakfak District. The studies were aimed to discribe the behavior of Anopheles punctulatus, the biting activities, the characteristics breeding place, the incidence rate of malaria, and the people behavior in Dulanpokpok Village. The studies were done from May to August 2009. The Anopheles mosquitoes were collected by indoor and outdoor human landing collection in the evening between 6 pm and 6 am. Breeding place characteristics were measured based on the larval collections. The people behavior were interviewed with indepth inteview. The result showed that the man biting rate of A. punctulatus indoors was 1,38 bites/man/night, and outdoors was 1,48 bites/man/night. The biting activities of A. punctulatus were known pools, wheel ruts, ditches and puddles. The breeding places characteristic of A. punctulatus were water base an mud, water depth 5-50cm, water temperature 28°C , pH 6-6,8, and sality 0%. The lack of knowledge and the behavior of people going outdoor during the night will increase the risk of malaria infection in the study area
Gambaran hispatologi insang, usus dan otot ikan mujair (Oreochromis mossambicus) yang berasal dari daerah Ciampea, Bogor
The aim of the present study is to describe the histopathological lesions of gill, intestines and muscle tissue of Mujair fish from Ciampea, Bogor. Totally of 30 Mujair fish randomly sampled from 6 different fishpondr in Ciampea, Bogor was used. The observed organs were process for histopathology and stained by Hematoxyln and Eosin. Result of the srudy showed that there were hyperplasia, fusion, oedema, epithelial necroses and metazoan parasitic infestation in gills lamella. Degeneration and cells necroses were commonly found in the tissue muscle; while in the intestines prolifeation of goblet cells and celk necrosis were also common. Based on the result mention above, we concluded that there were several types of histopathological lesions on these three observed organs of Oreochromis mossambicus fish and these lesions were due to infections ofmicrobes andparasite. Poor water quality seemed to play an important role in this case.
Dirofilaria Immitis (Leidy, 1856) dalam jantung anjing yang diseksi di fakultas kedokteran hewan institut pertanian bogor
Di dalam ventrikel kanan jantung anjing berbagai ras yang diseksi di laboratorium Patologi Fakultas kedokteran Hewan Institut Pertanian Bogor sejak awal 1970-an hingga tahun 1993 acap kali ditemukan cacing Dirojilaria immitis. Cacing-cacing tersebut berwarna putih, panjang, langsing dengan mulut tanpa bibir. Usofagus yang pendek terdiri atas dua bagian yaitu bagian anterior yang muskuler dan bagian posterior yang glanduler. Cacing betina panjangnya 20 - 29 cm dengan rataan 24,1 cm mempunyai ekor yang lurus dan berujung tumpul; vulvanya terletak di belakang ujung posterior usofagus. Cacing jantan panjangnya 14 - 20 cm dengan rataan 16,7 cm mempunyai ekor yang melingkar membentuk spiral yang dilengkapi lateral alae yang sempit; mempunyai dua spikulum yang asilnetrik tanpa bursa kopulatriks maupun gubernakulum. Didekat ujung ekor terdapat enam buah papila kaudal yang berbentuk kerucut.
Perubahan patologis dan gambaran lekosit pada itik yang diinfeksi Pasteurella multocida
Enam puluh ekor itik yang berumur lima minggu dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini. ltik dibagi secara acak menjadi dua kelompok yaitu kelompok infeksi dan kontrol.Kelompok pertama diinfeksi dengan Pasteurelhz multocida (Isolat lapangan) secara intramuskular. Itik diambil darahnya dan dinekropsi 1, 2, 4 dan 8 jam setelah infeksi untuk pemeriksaan diferensial lekosit dan perubahan makroskopik.Itik yang diinfeksi mulai menunjukkan lesio empat jam setelah infeksi. Itik yang diinfeksi dan mati menunjukkan gejala septikemi dengan hiperemi umum. Pemeriksaan gambaran lekosit menunjukkan peningkatan jumlah heterofil dan penurunan jumlah limfosit dan monosit 2,4 dan 8 jam setelah infeksi
Status Meiotik oosit kucing setelah masturasi in vitro pada waktu yang berbeda
The purpose of the research was to determine meiotic status of cat oocytes maturated in vitro at various duration times. Cat ovaries were collected from sexually mature queens after routine ovariohysterectomy. Oocytes were collected from those ovaries by slicing method and only good oocytes were maturated in maturation medium and incubated at 38,5oC in 5% CO2 humidified incubator in various duration. The durations were at 18-20 hours, 22-24 hours and 28-30 hours. At the end of maturation, the oocytes were fixed and stained with acetic orcein. The percentage of oocytes that reached metaphase II for 18-20 hours, 22-24 hours and 28-30 hours maturation were 60% ± 0.04 ; 68% ± 0.31 and 77% ± 0.2, respectively. There were no significant differences (P>0.05) on the percentage of oocytes in reaching the stage of germinal vesicle, anaphase-telophase and methapase II. Taksiran kerugian produksi daging akibat infeksi cacing saluran pencernaan pada ternak domba
Sebanyak 100 ekor domba jantan dan betina yang berasal dari Kotamadya dan Kabupaten Bogor dicatat berat karkasnya pada waktu penyembelihan di jagal dan contoh tinjanya diperiksa secara kuantitatif terhadap telur cacing saluran pecernaan. Terdapat korelasi negatif yang nyata (r= 0,4126; dk=3 : 76; P < 0,005) dengan indeks determinasi (r2) 0,1702, antara jumlah ttgt didalam tinja dengan cerat karkas domba. Dari sampel dengan rata-rata berat karkas 16,3 kg terdapat 80% dengan rata-rata berat karkas 15,4 kg yangmengandung telur cacing nematode, cestoda dan/atau trematoda. Hanya 20% yang negative dengan rata-rata berat karkas 19.8 kg. Dari yang positif, 27% menderita infeksi tunggal nematode, 7% cestoda, 8% trematoda, 9% infeksi campuran nematode dan cestoda, 7% nematode dan trematoda, 9% cestoda dan trematoda serta 13% infekasi campuran nematode, cestoda plus trematoda. Dari infeksi tunggal yang berjumlah 38% dan infeksi campuran sebanyak 42% terdapat 56% infeksi nematode, 38% cestoda dan 37% trematoda. Infeksi tunggal nematode mengakibatkan penurunan berat karkas sebesar 21, 72%, cestoda 9,60% dan trematoda 7,07% disbanding dengan berat karkas kelompok negatif. Infekski campuran nematode dan cestoda mengakibatkan penurunan produksi daging yang paling banyak (41,92%), disusul oleh infeksi campuran nematode, cestoda plus trematoda (34,34%). Domba jantan mengalami infeksi yang lebih berat dengan presentase penurunan berat karkas yang lebih besar disbanding dengan domba betina. Helminthiasis, ditambah interaksi dengan factor-faktor lain, mengakibatkan kerugian produksi daging dari ternak domba yang ditaksir antara 17,75 – 24,77% atau 3,2 – 4,4 juta kg atau Rp. 7,68 – 10,56 milyar atau US$ 4,8 – 6.6 juta pertahun
