A quinta, a capela e o portal: análise do potencial de uma paisagem histórica inserida no conjunto arquitetônico da cidade de São Luís do Maranhão
Quinta das Laranjeiras, owned by the merchant and military José Gonçalves da Silva, is part of the landscape of the outskirts of the city of São Luís do Maranhão from the time of its construction, in 1789, until the present day. Located at the end of the old Caminho Grande, now Oswaldo Cruz street, the Quinta has a private chapel and an imposing portal decorated with lioz stones, which reproduces the coat of arms of the Portuguese merchant. Functioning as landmarks of the boundaries of this site, these architectural elements remained during the 19th and 20th centuries as a reference for the urban evolution of São Luís, even after the various stages of the uncharacterization of the Quinta and its surroundings. In this sense, this article intends to discuss the concept of historical urban landscape attributing to Quinta das Laranjeiras the necessary patrimonial potential for a case study that understands the derivations of this category. Using UNESCO and IPHAN definitions of cultural landscape as parameters, we will analyze the formation of a stratification of meanings that have been accumulated through the historical and economic processes, in addition to punctuating the effects of the toppling of Quinta das Laranjeira
The aim of this work is to present a case study on the identification between Romanesque art and national identity in Catalonia, an association that emerged in the framework of the emergence of national movements at the end of the 19th century, but that was recovered a century later when the process for the declaration of the Romanesque churches of the Boí Valley as a world heritage site by UNESCO began. The identification of the Romanesque with a «national art» is reinforced in this case because it is a Romanesque art located in the heart of the Pyrenees, with the strong symbolic value of the mountain as the «cradle» of the Catalan nation. We will analyse the World Heritage process and its effects in the context of a small territory, with a scarce population and dependent to a great extent on the seasonality of tourism
O desenho digital e as paisagens patrimoniais. Convento da Madre Deus de Monchique, no Porto
This article is part of a broader reflection on the digital drawing and new research methodologies in the History of Architecture. Aiming to reflect on the concept of Heritage Landscape, it starts from the old monastic structure of Monchique, in the city of Porto, as an experimental laboratory for architectural and urban research. It is known that digital technology makes it possible to reconstruct elements from other eras, whose time has transformed or disappeared. In this context, and using digital drawing, the recognition of the built heritage and urban structures is sought through a synchronic and diachronic interpretation, attentive to the different historical periods and their specificities
Uma geografia de rosto humano
In different literary means, and throughout his lifetime, Miguel Torga kept drawing a human-like geography, as his senses reacted to the places he visited and walked through. With this article, we try to show how, from his native land of Trás-os-Montes, a true existential geodesic marker, Torga displayed his telluric and Iberian nature, as he kept assessing and resizing himself as a man, by the experience of meeting new places and people that he preserved in books.By that literary inscription, born of an organic and subjective reaction and of a prospective look of human horizon, the author seeks to understand the human contours that the different physical and cultural geographies produced. In this exercise, which endows the spaces with human density, and gives them identity and historicity, the notion of heritage landscape is nurtured and expanded
Uma tríade botânica na paisagem oitocentista portuense: jardins e hortos de excelência científica e económica
The present work explores the recognition of the past and present genius loci of three spaces of Porto city center as remaining and transformed representations of spaces with distinct, interconnected and pertinent botanical missions in the nineteenth century landscape of the city. Through the exploration of sources left by the interveners or graphic testimonies of the urban landscape from 1850 to the present day of these (ethno-)botanical spaces, we explore how the interveners and spaces of the Jardim Botânico da Academia Polythecnica do Porto, the Horto-pharmacêutico da Botica da Hospital Real de Santo António and the Horto das Virtudes mutually influenced. On the other hand, it is demonstrated how these spaces determined a time of special interest in botany that would not be repeated in the history of the city and its population
