O Pará que «Treme»: Compreendendo o Tecnobrega como Património Cultural Imaterial

The Tecnobrega as a characteristic musical rhythm and cultural heritage of the state of Pará (Brazil), carries with it several elements that express the identity of the community to which it belongs and which involve not only its melody, but also its parties, environments, agents, dances, gestures and symbols. This work aims to, as an introductory way, identify these elements and to understand their role in the formation of this property and in its process of patrimonialisation, as well as to suggest measures for its recognition, preservation and valorization through educational measures

Shoah e Literatura de Testemunho: O campo concentracionário enquanto lugar de memória

To remember and to forget are actions that involve selection of information, which means that it is impossible to remember without forgetting. Being the collective memory a social construct and a factor of identity for any community, how are we supposed to live with forgetfulness? How are we to live upon the deletion of the past (de-memorizing)? To counteract the silences and the unsaid it is possible to think of underground memories that express the spoken word of the excluded and the neglected from the official memory. Shaping a new writing and a new literature, innumerous authors consecrated thus their experiences of pain and trauma caused by Shoah. It is their examples of life and writing that we bring forward into confrontation, resorting to a conceptual frame that will also be supported by such thinkers as Michael Pollack, Theodor Adorno, Giorgio Agamben, HannahArendt or Walter Benjamin

Nova Sapho — Um novo olhar sob(re) a paisagem literária portuguesa

It’s our main goal to bring Nova Sapho of Visconde de Vila-Moura to the surface of the Portuguese literary landscape. Situated in the twentieth century, three years before the orphic modernist movement, this novel does not integrate the Portuguese’s literary canon. In Aníbal Fernandes’ words this is «the only and main example of the decadent movement in portuguese prose» (my translation) which explores feminine sexuality as marginal to the social and cultural context. Understanding decadent features within this work is our main goal and it will provide an introductory stance to the novel, being Anna M. Klobucka’s and Óscar Lopes’ studies the only investigation found about it

People with visual impairment are one of the groups with more difficulties to enjoy the audiovisual products, even more in the case of video games. Universal accessibility tries to take down those barriers and to reach that goal it needs to find alternative procedures to the visual channel in order to communicate the same information and interaction. A model to analyze the information communicated in their different levels and screens, through the visual, sound and haptic channels, will help to identify the information that is just communicated through pictures, with subsequent possible applications to the accessibility of that game

Deconstruir el amor a partir de El príncipe y la modista (2018) de Jen Wang

This paper deals with constructions of the romantic love ideal as narrative formulae inscribed in cultural products, focusing on «comic» as a médium hardly attended in Visual Studies. We look this narrative’s doublé nature as a union of the content (story) and the traditional form (discourse) in the discipline of audiovisual narrative. In this direction, we will review some of the critical texts dealing with both the romantic ideal of which consumers participate as well as the use of visual images employed in this stories, as a way of tentativelyposing a narrative canon. Through the critical analysis of The Prince and The Dressmaker (2018) by Jen Wang, we will explore the subversive strategies of the romantic canon in order to, ultimately, concretize these aspects in a podagogical model concerned with new roles and construction mechanisms of romantic love and gender roles in this type of story. This analysis will show, beside his loyalty to classic amorous schemes, Wang’s innovations in the representation of characters and their narrative roles

«Que coisa é a verdade?»: Theatrum mundi e o mistério da existência no Acto da Primavera de Manoel de Oliveira (1963)

The moving image and the visual culture lay down a field of references between imaginary and projected image. Rite of Spring (a Manoel de Oliveira feature film from 1963) is a good exemple of this relationship. If, by one hand, it inaugurates inquisitive tools that will turn into recurring issues in the author’s vision of cinema, by stressing the distance between image and médium, by the theatricality of the performance and by the operative relationship constructed between rhythm and film editing, on the other hand, this film is also an excelent essay on the action of images, when confronted with the christian imaginary that we inherited through visual culture and ritual. This way, we propose to analyze Manoel de Oliveira’s Rite of Spring as a device for the comprehension of life’s theatricallity, and as game of mirrors with our mental images as well

A cinepedagogia enquando «grande função do cinema». Discursos, modelos e experiências do cinema educativo em Portugal (1920‑1950): o caso do Porto

The present paper aims to analyse some of the discourses and experiences on educational cinema during the first half of the 20th century in Portugal. The cinepedagogia («cinepedagogy») – as it is named in historical sources – embodies pedagogic activities that benefit from moving images. The use of cinema for education is discoursed since the first decades of the cinematograph, however, it was from the 1920s onwards that the discussion on educational cinema truly developed, and it lasted vividly until the 1950s. Along with ahistorical contextualisation of this movement in Portugal, the city of Porto was defined as a case study, for instigating the association of cinema and education prematurely and successfully. This research takes advantage of sources that usually aren’t used in the analysis of this phenomenon in Portugal: specialized publications in cinema, such as magazines and newspapers. These sources demonstrate the discussion regarding educational cinema and publicise the concretizations in this field. Therefore, the review of the Portuguese cinematographic magazines, along with bibliographic resources, was fundamental for this study

O Auto da Floripes no lugar das Neves: um contributo da imagem em movimento para a perceção do fenómeno cultural

The present work has as its object of study the representation of the play Auto da Floripes. According to the theme previously mentioned, our main objective is, in first place, to analyze the relationship between this play – from its origins until, approximately, the end of the 1950’s – with the place called Neves and thereligious devotion of the local saint. We also intend to analyse the particular contribution of the homonymous film, made in 1959, to the development of a theme that, on principle, has belonged to the field of Social and Human Sciences. In this sense, we used the documentary collection from Cineclube do Porto in order tounderstand, in the end – and from the existing documentation on the film –, the relationship between the ethnographic context in order to understand of Neves and the representation of Auto da Floripes itself
