    Learning Model to Improve Teenagers’ Self-Esteem and Motivation of Having Achievement

    This article presents the process of developing an effective learning model to improve teenagers’ self-esteem and motivation of having achievement. The research used mixed method research.  In developing the learning model, the researcher carried out pre-study, development and model validation, and a model testing. The research generated a theoretically and empirically proper learning model to improve teenagers’ self-esteem and motivation of having achievement at pesantren (Islamic boarding school). The learning model which was generated is MPPHM (Model Pembelajaran Peningkatan Harga Diri dan Motivasi /The Learning Model to Improve Self-Esteem and Motivation). This model was able to create the interesting, pleasant, and challenging study ambience to be followed by students. The results showed that it generated pedagogic development, provided the efforts to solve a problem in improving teenagers’ self-esteem and motivation of having achievement, and served as the input for plan, implementation, and development of pesantren or other education institutions. This study was expected to benefit the teachers, principals and parents to pay attention to their children psychosocial factor that influence their children behaviors

    Achieving Graduate Competency Standards: Impact of The Excellence Program

    The purpose of this paper is to reveal the results of the efforts and strategies to improve the quality of graduates in achieving competency standards in FTIK (Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan/Faculty of Education and Teacher Training) at The State Islamic University of Malang, Indonesia. The existing challenge today, namely the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in which the human resources with special requirements, is to be able to compete and work at any positions wherever they want.  An Islamic college, particularly the FTIK where the prospective educators are “bornâ€, should be able to produce graduates who have both national and international qualifications. As a result, it demands the necessary management and strategies to achieve SKL (Standar Kompetensi Lulusan/ Graduate Competency Standard). This study uses qualitative approach with field research type. Strategies to guarantee the quality of graduates done through tight assessment, provision of extra programs that can improve the students\u27 academic quality, continuous assessment, and the students’ scientific work must be written in either English or Arabic. Excellence program has a positive impact either on students who want to continue to pursue higher education or students who choose to work. The graduates of excellence programs are proven to have tough mentality as well as high work ethics

    Tsangaya: The Traditional Islamic Education System in Hausaland

    In the pre-colonial Hausaland, an Islam-based educational system existed for several centuries and had produced leaders, scholars, businessmen, government functionaries, etc. This paper taking Kano as its focus of attention, and generating data through personal discussions, interviews, document analysis and personal experience, examines the Tsangaya system with the aim of bringing light into its untold beautiful features which are from a leaf that could be borrowed and successfully used in the so-called formal system. The paper reveals that the Tsangaya had staged from elementary to advanced and had its distinct of pedagogy and at the top of which there is educational delivery. Some benefits of the Tsangaya found in this study such as the strong relationship between teacher and student, respect for knowledge either for students or teacher, blending activities between teaching and learning and daily morality that can be useful for the modern era

    Development Strategy of Pedagogical Competence to Improve Professionalism of Islamic Education Teacher

    The purpose of this study is to analyze the pedagogical competence of PAI (Pendidikan Agama Islam/ Islamic education) teachers, the school’s strategies to develop PAI teacher’s pedagogical competence, the factors that inhibit school strategies, and the evaluation conducted by SMAN 3 (Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri /Senior High School) 3 Tasikmalaya, Indonesia toward the implementation of the strategies. The research method used is qualitative descriptive which reveals phenomenon holistically and contextually. Data were collected by observation, interview, and documentation. Qualitative descriptive data were analyzed by arranging and classifying the data, thus providing a real picture to the reader. The study conclude that the teachers had already good pedagogical competence, like the ability to understand the diversity of learners, to prepare lesson plans and strategies, to create active, creative, effective, and fun learning, and to evaluate students’ learning outcomes.  The school had employed strategy to develop PAI teacher’s pedagogical competence such as developing teachers regularly every month, involving teachers in various scientific activities, improving the welfare of teachers and educational facilities, supervising, monitoring and evaluating the performance of teachers by providing guidance, giving rewards to outstanding teachers. Thus, the factors inhibited the teachers’ pedagogical competence development were two kinds, internal and external factor.Â

    Improving Quality of Islamic Education Through Community Based Education: Principal Engagement

    The emergence of a community-based education paradigm is triggered by a large flow of modernization and democratization. Education should be decentralized. Its implementation in schools should be collaborative, and the principal has a big hand in this. Therefore, this study aims to examine the involvement or participation of the principal in improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) community-based in junior high school. The data are collected through in-depth interviews, observations, literature studies and documentation instruments. This study  shows that the principal\u27s concern on religious affairs and the improvement of the quality of PAI learning is relatively high. This can be seen from his programs conducting recitation   on Islamic and national holidays, Dhuha studies, tahfidz one day one verse, book of yaumi and verse book, tajwid learning   or tahsin for teachers, qurban animal repayment   and highly motivating teachers to have skills, develop existing curriculum, and improve the competence of teaching based on social piety

    Understanding the Cognition Process of the Students using the Internet as a Learning Resource

    This study aims to investigate how students search and process the information found on the Internet to meet the needs of their academic tasks as well as how they view such information compared to printed materials. The study was conducted targeting the student teachers at Primary School Teacher Education (PGMI) Program and Kindergarten Teacher Education Program (PGRA) in State Islamic University Sunan Ampel Surabaya. Such information search and processing are then later viewed through the lens of Blooms’ taxonomy. A qualitative method using the phenomenological approach is adopted in the study. Nine student participants of 1st, 2nd, 3rd-year classes were interviewed. The study indicates that the presence of the Internet as a source of learning has not shifted the role of the textbook as a primary source of information for the students while working on their academic assignments. It was revealed that the information search activities on the Internet have facilitated students to experience the four domains of the learning process in Bloom\u27s Taxonomy.Â

    يهد٠هذا البحث إلى الكش٠عن نوعية الاختبار النهائي على المستوى الوطني للسنة الدراسية 2012/2013Ù… للمدارس الثانوية الإسلامية ÙÙŠ إندونيسيا. والمراد بالنوعية هنا جودة أسئلة الاختبار من حيث كميتها ونوعيتها. وطريقة التقويم ÙÙŠ هذا البحث هي طريقة كيÙية بقيام المناقشة والملاحظة العميقة والنقدية حول الأسئلة ÙÙŠ الاختبار النهائي على المستوى الوطني ÙÙŠ السنة الدراسية 2012/2013Ù… للمدارس الثانوية الإسلامية بإندونيسيا. وكذلك القيام بمناقشات المجموعة المركزة مع الخبراء ÙÙŠ تقويم اللغة العربية وأيضا مع مدرسي اللغة العربية للمدارس الإسلامية وخاصة هم الذين تخرجوا ÙÙŠ قسم اللغة العربية لكونهم مستوعبين على تقويم الاختبارات الجيدة وغير الجيدة.  Ùˆ نتائج البحث هي أنه من ناحية مستوى نوعية الاختبار كيÙيا مازال ÙÙŠ الاختبار نقصان وأخطاء وهي ÙÙŠ كتابة الأرقام التي ما زالت مكتوبة بطريقة خاطئة، وأيضا ÙÙŠ توازن الخيار الصحيح بين الخيارات البديلة. ومن ناحية توÙير الاختبار العناصر الواجبة ÙÙŠ اختبار اللغة العربية.Â
