Relationship between Students’ Emotional Intelligence and Their Tadarus Al-Qur’an Activities
Emotional intelligence has been considered as contributing factor to students’ achievement in their academic life. Unfortunately, this intelligence seems to neglect on the part of students. In SMK (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan/Vocational School) Negeri 2 Pekanbaru, students had religious program namely Tadarus Al-Qur’an from 2013 until now but this program contributes less to their emotional intelligence. This study is aimed at investigating the relationship between students’ participation in extracurricular activities of Tadarus Al-Qur’an with their emotional intelligence. This study was quantitative and it applied correlational method. Data were collected through questionnaires and 232 students participated in this study. The results were analyzed by product-moment correlation test and linear regression. The results showed that based on the grouping of students’ answer scores for emotional intelligence as follows: high group of 9.57%, medium group 69.57% and low group, 20.87%. This is based on the product-moment correlation test results and linear regression test results, both at the 5% level and at the 1% level. It can be concluded that there was a significant relationship between students’ participation in extracurricular activities Al-Qur’an and their emotional intelligence
The Evaluation of Islamic Education Teachers’ Performance
Teachers’ performance is one of crucial topics in education and become a global problem in improving the quality of education in many countries, including the performance of Islamic Education teachers. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate Islamic Education teachers’ performance at SMA (Sekolah Menengah Atas/Senior High School) in Gorontalo Province. The method used in this research consisted of an evaluation research with countenance stake model. The samples were 66 Islamic Education teachers taken by purposive sampling technique.  Data were obtained through observation, interview, and document study. The finding of this research shows that the Islamic Education teachers’ performance in learning planning is good. Teachers are able to design a good learning process, although the ability in selecting methods and strategies, selecting media and learning source and composing the assessment component in evaluating the learning should be improved. Because those three components are still in enough category. The performance of teachers in the implementation of learning is in good category, despite there are still some measured components that should be improved such as by doing elaboration activity, doing assessment process and furthermore program. Therefore, explicitly shows that Islamic Education teachers in Gorontalo Province performance should be evaluated. It aims to the professional development and the carrier improvement as a teacher
Strategic Management in Increasing Educational Participation for 12-year Compulsory Education
In Indonesia, education has many problems to take into consideration. One of them is that SMP (Sekolah Menengah Pertama/Junior high school) graduates could not continue to SMA (Sekolah Menengah Atas/Senior high school) level. This research was aimed at investigating accurate data and information regarding strategic management administered by education and culture office of Sukabumi city in improving educational participation. This research applies strategic management model proposed by Hunger-Wheelen. This study was qualitative using case study. Data were collected using interview, documentation, and observation. The Education and Culture Office of Sukabumi City had no specific vision and mission for the implementation of 12-year secondary education. The strategies included providing financial support in many programs like kartu pintar, Direct Help Card, and scholarships for poor families. The implementations were based on programs, budgets and procedures. In general, the implementation had been successful but it has two programs which had not succeeded namely retrieval program and program to support student who were prone to drop out. Teaching Methods in Pesantren to Tackle Religious Radicalism
Religious radicalism has been a problem and a burning issue in social religion life in Indonesia. Government and the society including educational institutions like pesantren need to collaborate to solve this problem. This study was aimed at investigating the teaching methods applied in pesantren as an effort to tackle religious radicalism. This research used descriptive qualitative method. Techniques used were observation, interview and documentation. Interview was done to several key informants from pesantren to gather relevant information. The results showed that pesantren around the capital city of Jakarta still applied learning methods namely sorogan, bandongan, Islamic classic book reading. Those methods were designed to promote discussion in learning Islamic material. In addition, the learning methods developed santri academic achievement nurture their social skills. Given these skills and competencies, santri were taught to respect opinions of others and promote the effort to tackle religious radicalism in pesantren
Al-zarnuji’s thought of Education and its Implementation at pesantren
The study aims to find out al-Zarnuji’s basic concept of knowledge, learning material, ethic, strategy, process and his contribution as well as to explain conceptual model on the basis of his thought at the institutions. In Pesantren Kebon Jambu al-Islami, Buntet and Bendakerep Cirebon, the Kitab Ta’līm al-Muta’allim is used as main reference of learning ethic. The study used qualitative research method. Source and kind of data were determined by the researcher as information center with purposive trait as long as it is supposedly representative. The result indicates that the implementation of the book Ta’līm al-Muta’allim at those pesantrens was less satisfactory due to textual understanding. In order to effectively implement the book Ta’līm al-Muta’allim at those institutions, the contextual description is required
Implementation of Education Management Standard in The Guidance of Private Islamic High School
This study aimed to review the implementation of education management standard for the development of private Islamic high school. This is the case study in Gorontalo City (one of big city in Indonesia). This study investigates the process of program enforcement, such as the management of curriculum section and learning activities, students, teachers and staffs, facilities, monetary sections, culture and school environment, as well as public relation and partnership. Data were collected by observation, interview, and the documentation. The result showed that the standard implementation of education management under the guidance of private Islamic high school has been conducted even there are some management components, which are not yet well conducted as the standard. The challenges are the low interest of parents to enroll their children at madrasah, unrepresentative service, inefficient financial planning, government and foundation policy, free education program, public relation program concern more on an internal program, and also the lack of parents’ knowledge about Islamic high school. The potencies of Islamic high school such as religion curriculum, extracurricular program, and complete facilities should be optimized
The Model of Learning Design based on Islamic Multicultural Education to Prevent Conflicts of Behavior
This paper presents the form of multicultural conflict at SMA (Sekolah Menengah Atas/Senior High School) Kartini Regency of Rokan Hilir Riau, the supporting and inhibiting factors in application of the multicultural curriculum and design of learning model for multicultural-based PAI (Pendidikan Agama Islam /Islamic Education) to put down the conflicts among students. The research was a research and development (R&D) with qualitative approach. Research and development were conducted up to hypothetical phase. The research subjects were the teachers of PAI, Chemistry, and PKN (Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan/Civic Education). Each of subject teacher was one person, and the number of participating students were 34 people. Data collection technique was conducted by observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentation. Qualitative data processing encompassesed data collection, reduction, presentation, and verification. Based on the research results, there were conflicts at SMA Kartini caused by individual differences, interest differences, cultural and social changes. The supporting factor in application of multicultural curriculum was that all stakeholders at SMA Kartini still have tolerant attitude which can be developed and directed and the teachers at SMA Kartini have inclusive attitude. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors in application of multicultural curriculum at SMA Kartini were the minimum facilities and infrastructure, lack of information services, and lack of supervision towards students.   Â
The Intellectual and Spiritual Contribution of Nuruddin Ar-Raniri to Islamic Education in Indonesia
This paper attempts to analyze the intellectual and spiritual contributions of Nuruddin ar-Raniri to Islamic education in Indonesia. It gives the genealogy of ar-Raniri and his arrival to Indonesia as well as the vital role he played in the documentation of important literatures in Malay and Islamic education. This paper further argues that Nuruddin ar-Raniri, serving as a Sufi scholar, great writer, theologian, historian has immense contribution. His impact and influence in Indonesia was profound and noteworthy. His contribution to Malay literature and Islamic education is unavoidable. His masterpieces on intellectual writings has exerted considerable effort in the field of Malay letters and historical writings. His writings cover various fields of knowledge which helped in developing the learning culture in the society. This study used a qualitative approach in collecting and analyzing the data. This study concludes that due to this great contribution in the field of Islamic knowledge, ar-Raniri emerged as an exceptional scholar of his time and a pioneer in the standardization of Islamic religious text within Indonesia. Thus, it remains a legacy and a significant contribution in transforming Indonesia spiritually and intellectually. His contribution in Islamic education includes learning material and Islamic traditional book delivered in Pegon language which used in pesantren and other Islamic education institutions in Indonesia
Islamic Education at Multicultural Schools
This article aims to explain the roles of PAI (Pendidikan Agama Islam/Islamic Education) at multicultural schools. It was the results of the field research by using a qualitative method. The research was conducted at SMA (Sekolah Menengah Atas/Senior High School) Plus Pembangunan Jaya Bintaro Tangerang. The school was selected because its students had diversity of backgrounds, and the school had committed to develop the multicultural insights. Data of research were obtained through interview, observation, and documentation. The results showed that PAI had the roles as the pluralism moral activator to students. PAI was applied in the educational process to form students’ multicultural attitude and thought. There were two underlying findings, namely: type of inclusive educators and design of multicultural curriculum.Â
Institutional Transformation of Madrasa of Muslim Minority in Thailand
The article discusses the history of madrasa in the Southern Province of Thailand. The Muslim Malay community in Southern Thailand is an inseparable part of the Republic of Thailand. Historically, the Muslim Malay community are indigenous people who have embraced Islam since the 13th century, and even reachedits peak of glory during the reign of Pattani Sultanate. The discussion specializes in the history of madrasa in the region. The study uses historical approach. The article illustrates that the beginning of the emergence of madrasa was motivated by the disagreement among Muslim Malay community against Thai governmental policies. Haji Sulong was the founder of the first madrasa in Southern Thailand in 1933 named “Madrasah Al-Ma’arif Al-Watattaniah Fattani†as a manifestation of his intention to improve the socio-economic welfare of Muslim Malay community through education. Finally, the article discusses the institutional dynamics of Muslim minority madrasa and the development in relation to the identity and capacity of community
