    Ethical Leadership Assessment for The Islamic Secondary School Principals

    This study aims to determine the assessment of ethical leadership in Islamic High School principal; determine the relationship among ethical leadership constructs; and investigates the influence of ethical leadership in terms of value, serve, act justly, and do right to build the community for a common goal. Eight Islamic secondary schools and 80 teachers were selected as respondents for the study. Quantitative data obtained through a questionnaire which is modified from ethical leadership Perceived Leader Instrument Integrity Scale (LIS). The questionnaire was analyzed using mean and standard deviation, Pearson correlation, and path analysis with multiple regressions. The findings show that the assessment of ethical leadership matched with empirical data. It also found that leadership principals in the service of others was developed at the level of an ethical community, and in terms of respect for others is at unethical level. Then, the finding showed that each construct correlated at a moderate level. It also found that the constructs of ethical leadership (serve and act) provided direct influence on the establishment of a community development effort. The study recommended the elements of ethical leadership of respect for others.   Â

    Criticizing Montessori’s Method of Early Childhood Education using Islamic Psychology Perspective

    This study examined critically Montessori’s concepts on early childhood education through Islamic Psychology perspective. This research used qualitative methodology with a literature approach. The results showed that (1) Montessori’s method pays more attention to the cognitive aspect of children development while children potential doesn’t only consist of cognitive, affective, and psycho-motoric aspects, but also spiritual one; (2) Reinforcement are not needed in Montessori’s method, while in Islamic Psychology, rewards can increase children\u27s learning and punishment is needed to make children become disciplined in carrying out the rules; (3) Learning environment should be structured, in order, realistic and natural. This concept is suitable for upper class educational institutions but it would be difficult for middle-low income groups since the materials required by Montessori’s method is expensive enough. (4) Parents and teachers are required to become observers and interpreters. This role may pose problem on the part of parents and teachers since not all parents and teachers have criteria to act as is it expected by Montessori’s method

    This article is an attempt to explore the application of Wasatiyyah in the education system in Brunei Darussalam. This research will be focusing on the advancement of Muslim women’s education since the Nation’s Policy of Education has been formulated. In such, Annual Education Report and related government official documents are to be analyzed as the main resource in this article. In brief, the methodology used is library research which will be presented in descriptive and narrative approach. As a result, the research found that it is certainly notable Wasatiyyah concept is part of the country education system. It is clear and noticeable with no restriction on gender to enroll in all schools. The opportunity to get an education is equally open to all children. Besides, the government is constantly offering and encouraging all adult Muslim women to engage in long life learning with providing them with adult education to enhance their skills and knowledge in numerous field.   Â

    The Effect of Family Literacy Culture on Student’s Motivation in Islamic Education Subject at State Senior High School in Garut

    The environment is believed to have a strong effect on the learning process of students, including the family’s influence. This study is aimed to examine the influence of family literacy culture on student learning motivation in Islamic education subject. This study applied the associative method with inferential statistical analysis. The population of this study covers 484 students of class X at State Senior High School in Garut District, Indonesia, while the number of research samples comprises 83 respondents. Data measurement in this research uses ordinal data with Likert Scale measurement. The analysis methods include regression analysis, correlation coefficient, the coefficient of determination, and hypothesis testing.     This article aims to investigate how santri understood the concept of ‘uzlah in Pesantren and how they participated in ‘uzlah activities to enhance their mentality and spirituality.  ‘Uzlah is a form of self-isolation and an effort to detach from everything dealing with the world. Its purpose is to get closer to Allah. The research applied Al – Ghazali framework theory to describe and elaborate students’ uzlah practice. The type of the research was qualitative applying phenomenology approach. The data collection technique were observation and focus group discussion for students to investigate their understanding on ‘uzlah practice. The data analysis process applied flow models as the followings: data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The research found that the santri understood concept of ‘uzlah as the way to perform activity and a treatment that position themselves to live with the Sufi attitude without ignoring their role as a member of society. Through the activity of ‘uzlah, santri’s spirituality and mentality were built as a form of integrity between religious activity and their factual life pattern in the society

    Al-Zarnuji’s Character Concept in Strengthening Character Education in Indonesia

    This study aims to find the relevance and contextualization of the thoughts of al-Zarnuji\u27s character in the present context especially in relation to strengthening character education in Indonesia. The research used the incorporative approach and descriptive, heuristic and hermeneutic methods. The analysis technique used analytical content. The study found that there was relevance in the concept of al-Zarnuji\u27s character to the concept of strengthening character education in Indonesia, where both of them made aspects of noble character and morality as the pillars and main souls of humans in nation-building. Although in a different socio-cultural context, the concept of al-Zarnuji\u27s character and the concept of character education in Indonesia both go in the same direction, namely the effort to establish positive characters for students through education.Â

    In Thailand context, Faculty of Islamic Sciences (FIS), Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, is one of the higher educational institutions which plays a vital role not only in disseminating knowledge related to Islamic studies disciplines but also serving as an impetus to the development of Muslim community in southern part of Thailand in particular. This study aims at examining the ongoing development of one of the programs offered by FIS i.e., Islamic Educational Administration and Management Program. The focus will be given to its contribution and proposal for the development that would result in strengthening the program to achieve the desired goal. Documentary analysis is used for the study. Moreover, presentation of the result will be narratively described. It is hoped that the study would give some guidelines for policy implication.   Â

    “I Teach Character in My Classâ€: Integrating Character Education in EFL Reading Classroom at Islamic Higher Education

    This article explores teacher\u27s experiences and students\u27 perceptions of character and values education at the university level. This is a case study of how teacher integrates character education in EFL Reading Comprehension subject at Islamic higher education context. The data from ten students and a teacher are collected through an online interview and questionnaires. The result showed the characters implied in EFL Reading Comprehension Subject are eleven characters include learning method, critical thinking, independence, creativity, courage/self-confidence, communicativeness, responsibility, honesty, religiousness, cooperation, tolerance. Those characters are positively responded by the students in their learning process in the classroom. Besides, the teacher also integrated those values in the teaching and learning process to instill students\u27 character education

    Islamic Local Awakening: Study of Muhammadiyah Renewal as The Rise of Islamic Education Identity in South Sumatera

    The purpose of this study is to construct the dynamics of Muhammadiyah education in South Sumatera which is undergoing a phase called the local awakening. Such conditions occur after social, political and religious relations have struggled during the development of Muhammadiyah education there, which also helped encourage the renewal of overall Islamic education in South Sumatera. This study is a qualitative study with a social history approach. Data in the form of historical facts related to this research are collected through library and documentation techniques. The results of this study indicate that the construction of Muhammadiyah education as an identity for Islamic education in South Sumatera actually happened due to factors of Islamic renewal which occurred intensively in rural areas (periphery) that experienced a process of negotiation and integration in the social community. So that the renewal of Islam carried out by the modernist movement there actually appeared in rural areas not in urban areas as happened in other regions in Indonesia.  Â

    Tafsir Tarbawi in Indonesia: Efforts to Formulate Qur’an-Based Islamic Education Concept

    This article examines the interpretation of the Qur’an among education scholars in contemporary Indonesia. This article studies 24 books of Tafsir Tarbawi (educational exegesis) which has been written in 2000-2018. The study focuses on the nature, validity, and contribution of Tafsir Tarbawi in Indonesia. This research belongs to library research. By using bibliographical analysis, this study concludes that firstly, Tafsir Tarbawi is a Qur’anic exegesis that uses pedagogic approach in interpreting the Qur’an; secondly, it appears as a text book and as a special work of tafsir; thirdly, it is a valid and acceptable Qur’anic exegesis; and fourthly, its works have relatively contributed to the development of Islamic Education science, either in term of paradigm and method or in that of product. As a paradigm and methodology, books of Tafsir Tarbawi have offered approach and method of tafsir in developing Tafsir Tarbawi (pedagogic exegesis), while as a product, book of Tafsir Tarbawi in Indonesia not only have confirmed basic concepts and principles of Islamic Education, but also have formulized science or theory of Islamic Education. Therefore, Tafsir Tarbawi might function as theological-scriptural basis and epistemological-conceptual tool as well. However, these efforts should be advanced
