The environmental awareness character of elementary school students in the Kahayan River basin: Comparative study in rural and urban areas
This study compares the environmental awareness character of elementary school students in the Kahayan River Basin, Central Kalimantan Province, who live in rural and urban areas. It is a quantitative study using survey data collection methods. The survey was conducted on 60 students: 30 students from SDN Bukit Rawi 1, located in a rural area, and 30 students from SDN Percobaan Palangka Raya, in an urban area. The survey used a questionnaire containing 20 statements with five answer options, using a Likert scale. The collected data is then analyzed using descriptive percentage analysis. The results showed that students living in rural areas of the Kahayan River Basin had better environmental awareness than those living in urban areas. The majority, 70 percent of rural students, demonstrated "Very Good" ecological awareness, while the majority, 73 percent, of urban students, showed "Good" environmental awareness (one level below "Very Good"). Furthermore, rural students had an average score of 90.59 (Very Good), compared to urban students with an average score of 84.30 (Good). The researchers suggest further studies on the factors influencing students' environmental awareness and the development of products/programs to enhance environmental awareness among students in the Kahayan River Basin
Application of media notion to improve students' critical thinking through TaRl learning at SMAN 6 Malang
This research was motivated by the low critical thinking ability of students in Geography subjects at SMA Negeri 6 Malang. This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills by using a project-based learning model based on TaRl learning strategies. This type of research is classroom action research. The subjects of this study were students of grade X-I SMA Negeri 6 Malang. The instruments used in this study were interview sheets, observations, test questions, and documentation. Data collection techniques consist of interviews, observations, tests and documentation. Data analysis in this study used quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The result of this study is to improve students' thinking processes with a problem-based learning model based on Tarl learning strategies assisted by media notion in class X-I SMA Negeri 6 Malang. This is shown from the results of the analysis of each cycle showing a significant improvement so that students' thinking processes can develop
Tumpeng Sewu: Osing tradition as cultural material in social studies learning
This study aims to explore social studies teaching materials based on the Tumpeng Sewu tradition of the Osing tribe. A qualitative approach was used by conducting interviews with informants and strengthen by relevant previous research. The results showed that the culture of Tumpeng Sewu became one of the hereditary cultures of the Banyuwangi people, especially the people in Kemiren Village. This culture is a culinary festival of Tumpeng Sewu in a traditional clean village ritual in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi. This traditional ritual is carried out by the Osing ethnic group and is held every year by serving food dishes as a form of their traditional tradition. This custom may be great in attracting tourists and improving the economic aspects of the community. The culinary festival is an annual program of the Banyuwangi government which has been held from 2015 to 2019, even though it is hindered by a pandemic, this ritual continues even though the procession is slightly different. The contribution of this research is used as cultural material in social studies learning which refers to literacy studies and interviews with resource persons.
Implication of fitrah based education in social studies learning (A case study at Sekolah Alam Yogyakarta)
Fitrah-based education is a conscious effort to increase all the potential that God has given to humans so that they become humans who unite with God and can benefit other humans for the sake of a better civilization. This research aims to determine the implications of nature-based education contained in social studies learning. This research a qualitative descriptive method with interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on research results it is that education must be able to develop and improve human nature which has been bestowed by God since humans were born. Sekolah Alam Yogyakarta offers natural education based on fitrah. The implications applied to social studies learning at Yogyakarta Nature School include social interaction in society, understanding of nationality, diversity of Indonesian culture, and activities related to nature so that through these activities’ students’ nature can be improved. This requires support from family and society to improve the nature of students
Student team achievement division model assisted by card media in social studies learning
The research aims to see how far the use of the STAD model assisted by card media improves learning outcomes and students' activeness and interest in learning. The method used was remedial action or classroom action research. The subjects were teachers and fifth-grade students at Pasirgunung Selatan 4 Elementary School, Depok, totaling 38 participants. The learning outcomes of the first cycle using the discussion method obtained an average of 69 (58 percent mastery learning) and 25 (66 percent) who actively answered. Cycle 2 using the STAD Model assisted by card media obtained an average of 80, completeness reached 80 percent, and student activity was 32 (84 percent). The results of the study can be concluded that STAD model assisted by by card media increases the class average value, learning completeness, student learning outcomes, student activities, and growth the cohesiveness and student interaction. The use of the STAD model assisted by card media has implications for social studies learning such as resulting data that makes it easy to measure students’ learning outcomes through comparisons between understanding before and after use. In addition, this research has the potential to enhance students' interaction and understanding of complex materials in social studies, as well as develop social and cognitive skills that are important for their development
Liveworksheet-based e-LKPD: an evaluation of a workshop aiming to improve Social studies teachers' pedagogical competence
Teachers often present monotonous teaching and learning processes and use conventional assignments through LKPD (student worksheets) during a pandemic. The manual assessments take time and effort. Departing from that problem, UM Social Sciences Education Lecturer Team organized a workshop on liveworksheet-based e-LKPD (electronic LKPD) as a form of community service. This Program aims to improve the pedagogic competence of teachers. A series of activities have been carried out, and evaluation actions are needed in this workshop activity. The purpose of writing this article is to evaluate the workshop using the CIPP evaluation model, namely context evaluation, input evaluation, process evaluation, and product evaluation. The results of data analysis using CIPP show that the percentage value of the evaluation of the Liveworksheet-based E-LKPD Workshop for improving the pedagogic competence of Social Science teachers in Malang is Very Good. This value indicates that the implementation of the community service that has been carried out has a very well-implemented system
Using learning technology for social studies as a resilient media during the pandemic outbreak
The covid-19 pandemic has almost been experienced in all corners of the world in the last two years. The impact is no exception and also affects the activities of students, workers, or the community in general. However, the existing obstacles do not make humans surrender to that conditions. In fact, with these conditions make everyone compete in creating innovations to support learning activities. This study explores student resilience efforts in dealing with the covid-19 pandemic through learning media as a supporting application in online learning. A conventional literature review was used to elaborate on the research problem. This study found that using learning technology media can make people's and students’ lives resilient during the Covid-19 pandemic. Students found themselves more flexible and encouraged to participate in learning processes. As a result, they could learn effectively in social studies materials provided on the online platform
Encouraging learning difficulties in social studies by multidisciplinary learning models
Learning activity distributes knowledge from educators to students to develop abilities and shape character, essential in improving student learning outcomes. However, there are still many learning activities that are less exciting or tend to be monotonous, which makes students quickly bored. This study aims to explore the learning difficulties in social studies learning by implementing a multidiscipline learning model. A conventional literature review and Jacobs' theory of a multidisciplinary integrated learning model were used to analyze the data. This study found that applying multidisciplinary learning models in social studies learning could bring some advantages, such as encouraging students to be more open-minded, active, easy-going, friendly, motivated, disciplined, and work in teamwork
Narrative harmony: Empowering students through the national anthem in social studies education
This study explores the integration of the national anthem into social studies education. It is essential, considering that the coverage of IPS material is related to the fighting spirit of citizens. The article describes the relevance of the national anthem and the material in social studies learning. The article was prepared by utilizing 20 pieces of literature. The literature is devoted to studies relevant to the national anthem used in learning. The research results show that social studies education's relevance in integrating the National Anthem plants the seeds of lifelong civic responsibility. This study argues that once used only in classrooms, national anthems now serve as a guiding force, empowering students to contribute to their nation's ongoing narrative actively. The Indonesian national song "Dari Sabang to Merauke" examines its geographic and nationalist meaning. Using this song as a resource will increase meaningful social studies learning, including aspects of Indonesia's geography, history, and cultural diversity. This study identifies the impact of integrating the national anthem on student engagement, emphasizing the instillation of civic responsibility
The effectiveness of differentiated learning in Geography subject, anthroposphere material, for grade X at SMAN 4 Sidoarjo
Students play a crucial role in the learning process at school, and creating a fun and engaging learning environment that can positively impact their interest and active participation. However, accommodating the diverse learning styles and needs of students can be a challenge for teachers. To address this, differentiated learning activities are considered appropriate, as they focus on meeting the individual needs of students and allow educators to respond effectively in the classroom. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of differentiated learning in improving the activity and learning outcomes of Grade X Geography students, specifically focusing on the Anthroposphere material at SMAN 4 Sidoarjo during the academic year 2022/2023. To investigate the effectiveness of differentiated learning, a one-shot case study experimental design was employed. The study involved 40 students and utilized the one-shot case study model. The results revealed that the implementation of differentiated learning effectively improved the activity and learning outcomes of Grade X-C Geography students in relation to the Anthroposphere material at SMAN 4 Sidoarjo during the academic year 2022/2023
