    The effect of cognitive restructuring counselling technique on reducing students’ social media usage intensity

    The purpose of this research is to discover the effect of cognitive restructuring counseling technique on social media usage intensity of SMPN 1 Bantaeng students. This research uses quantitative approach with Quasi Experimental Design with the Nonequivalent Control Group Design research design. The subjects of this research were 20 students in class VIII who were identified as having high social media usage intensity. The data collection techniques used in this research are usage intensity scaling, observation, and interviews. The results of this research discovers that the implementation of cognitive restructuring technique can reduce the intensity of social media usage intensity as applied according to the procedures that have been designed through 8 meetings. The intensity of using social media before implementing cognitive restructuring technique was considered high but after implementing cognitive restructuring technique, the intensity of using social media decreased

    Role playing and emotional competence in school-age children (a causality approach)

    School age is a time when the children begin to know more complex emotional expressions, so they need to learn about emotional competence to express and regulate them appropriately. One effective learning method to improve children’s emotional competence is role playing. The purpose of this study was to use the role playing method to improve the emotional competence of school-age children. This study used a quasi-experimental research design of two group pretest-posttest. This study used primary-school-age population and the target population of this study was the second grade of elementary-school children. This study involved 16 participants and was divided into an experimental group and a control group. This study used an instrument to measure emotional competence. The results show significant increase on the Wilcoxon test and it can be concluded that the role-playing method can be used to improve the emotional competence of school-age children

    Relationship between parental autonomy support and academic motivation among junior high students

    This study aims to observe the relationship between parental autonomy support and academic motivation among junior high students. This correlational study collected data from 124 students and their mothers. Convenience sampling was used. The instruments employed were Perceived Parental Autonomy Support Scale and Academic Self-Regulation Questionnaire translated into Indonesian. The Spearman’s Rank was used for correlation analysis. The results revealed that parental autonomy support and maternal autonomy support has a positive correlation with students’ autonomous motivation. The more frequently students receive support from parents and the more frequently mothers give support to their children, the higher motivation students have to perform activities they desire. Maternal autonomy support also associates positively with students’ controlled motivation. The more often mothers give freedom, the higher motivation students have to do activities coming from internal and external pressures. Parental control perceived by students and maternal control have no link with overall motivation

    Academic self-concept, teacher’s supports and student’s engagement in the school

    Students' engagement in school is a condition where the students can engage in learning activity well, it seems by the students' ability and willingness to engage in the school activity. This research aims to examine the role of academic self-concept as the moderate variable on the relationship between teacher's support and students' engagement in school. This research uses qualitative through the correlational method. Students' engagement is measured by the student's engagement at school questionnaires (SESQ). While the teacher's support is measured by the perceived teacher academic support scale (PTASS). Academic self-concept is a moderate variable that is measured by using the academic self-concept scale (ASC) by measure on two aspects namely students' confidence and students' effort in the academic aspect. Testing hypotheses have one by using moderated regression analysis (MRA). The results show that the relationship between the teacher's support and students' engagement in school is increasingly strengthened by the presence of academic self-concept as a moderated variable. Teacher's supports such as emotional supports in the learning process can enhance academic self-concept positively. The positive self-concept among the students encourage to develop student's self-regulation and achievement academic and automatically increase student's engagement in the learning process

    The portrait of spiritual intelligence and aggressiveness of university students

    Aggression is interpreted as a behavior that aims to hurt others physically and verbally. This study used quantitative approach through correlational method to find out the influence of spiritual intelligence (SQ) to the aggressiveness in university students. Students’ aggressiveness was measured using adapted aggression questionnaire, while SQ was measured using the adapted spiritual intelligence scale. The sample technique used proportional random sampling technique and data analysis used regression test through SPSS 22. The findings of the research suggest that spiritual intelligence has a positive and significant effect on students’ aggressiveness. The research results point out that SQ among the students encourages God spot activation. God spot leads students to show ideal behavior and find peaceful solution for every problem. God spot makes students crave on the transcendence; as the consequence, the deep love, peaceful, unity of existence arise in students’ mind and behavior. The peaceful behavior significantly decreases students’ aggressiveness

    Pengembangan Inventori Motivasi Belajar Untuk Siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan

    The purpose of this research resulted learning motivation inventory for vocational high school students that meet the requirements of validity and reliability, so that it is able to measure the learning motivation of students that would become the guidelines on teacher guidance and counselling in providing tutoring services as well as to arouse the learning motivation of students. This research is the development of research or research and development model of the Borg and Gall, by involving 317 students. The population of this research is the vocational high school students aged 15-19 years. The taking of the sample of this study using cluster random sampling, while the analysis used product moment pearson, cronbach alpha, test for normality and an analysis of the factors. This research resulted learning motivation inventory for vocational high school students consisting of 59 items statement declared valid, has a high level of reliability, data is normally distributed and has 15 correlating factors on each particular item. Thus this study motivation inventory product can be used to identify learning problems of vocational high school students

    The development of “problem box e-counseling” Android-based application as a medium for students’ problem disclosure

    The study aimed at discovering (1) the description of the need of “problem box  e-counseling” Android-based application as a medium for students’ problem disclosure, (2) the prototype of “problem box e-counseling” Android-based application as a medium for students’ problem disclosure, and (3) the acceptance of “problem box e-counseling” Android-based application as a medium for students’ problem disclosure. This study is a development, The data were collected by interview and questionnaire techniques. This study revealed that (1) there is a high need of “problem box e-counseling” Android-based application as a medium for students’ problem disclosure at SMA Islam Athirah I Makassar (2) the prototype of “problem box e-counseling” Android-based application as a medium for students’ problem disclosure at Athirah I Islamic High School Makassar (3) the acceptance of each subject of research expert test, namely the counseling media expert, technology expert in education, and counseling practitioner in the initial product test showing positive response. Thus, the application can be accepted, and based on a test involving 10 students and a school counselor in the small group test; it indicates a very positive response (high), so it can be accepted

    Efektivitas Metode Problem Solving Melalui Konseling Kelompok Untuk Meningkatkan Regulasi Diri Siswa

    Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas metode problem solving melalui konseling kelompok terhadap regulasi diri siswa SMA N 1 Jatinom. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan jenis penelitian quasi eksperimen. Desain penelitian yang digunakan Non Equivalen Pretest-Posttest. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua kelompok yaitu kelompok eksperimen sejumlah enam siswa dan kelompok kontrol sejumlah enam siswa. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa SMA N 1 Jatinom tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah purposive sampling. Proses pengumpulan data menggunakan skala regulasi diri untuk mengukur tingkat regulasi diri siswa SMA N 1 Jatinom. Efektivitas metode problem solving terhadap regulasi diri dapat dilihat dari perbedaan hasil uji wilcoxon dengan nilai sig. 0,028 lebih kecil 0,05 (0,028 22,2). Rerata Gain Score kelompok eksperimen sebesar 0,43 sedangkan kelompok kontrol sebesar 0,23. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa metode problem solving melalui konseling kelompok efektif terhadap regulasi diri siswa

    The Influence of Bibliocounseling to Enhance Student’s Academic Self-Regulation

    The purposes of this research are to discover (1) the description of academic self-regulation before and after bibliocounseling treatment to students, (2) the implementation of bibliocounseling to increase academic self-regulation of students, (3) the influence of bibliocounseling to academic self-regulation of students. The approach used in this research is quantitative approach by using quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group design. The subjects of this research were 30 students of class VIII who, identified as having low learning self-regulation and they were divided into two groups, namely experimental group, and control group. Techniques for collecting the data employ self-regulation learning scale, observation, and interview. The results of this research reveal that (1) the level of academic self-regulation of a student in SMPN 1 Makassar is low before giving bibliocounseling. However, after implementing it in 4 sessions, the level of academic self-regulation of students improve to hight category, (2) the result of statistic descriptive analysis obtains that essentially there is a change of the level of academic self-regulation of students after giving bibliocounseling and the result of hypothesis test shows that there is positive influence on the implementation of bibliocounseling to increase academic self-regulation of the students in SMPN 1 Makassar.

    Derajat Stres Mahasiswa Baru Fakultas Kedokteran Ditinjau Dari Tingkat Penyesuaian Diri Terhadap Tuntutan Akademik

    People encounter many changes in the first year of college. It was related to adjustment’s problems, which was a serious problem that must be faced when entered college. Adaptation to new environment can make individual experienced stress. The various studies have shown that medical students experienced stress more higher than non-medical program students. Students who are experiencing extreme stress or depressed require serious attention cause it can have an adverse effect on learning process, achievement and even intent to suicide. This research involved 49 medical students. It took to determine the correlation between level of adjustment to academic demands and stress degree on new students in Faculty of Medicine, Islamic University of North Sumatra, T.A 2016-2017. Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ) and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10 Test) were used to collect relevant data on adjustment rates and stress levels. Data were analyzed by using Spearman correlation test. The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between adjustment rates to academic demands with stress level on new students with p value of 0.001 (p <0.05) and r value of -0.697
