The kepok banana peel extract (Musa paradisiaca Linn) and avocado peel extract (Persea americana Mill) contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and steroids. There is a linear relationship between antioxidant activity and sunscreen capability. The stronger antioxidant activity, the better sunscreen capability will be. This study aims to determine antioxidant activity and sunscreen capability from the combination of kepok banana peel extract and avocado peel extract compared to it’s single form. This study was conducted with quota sampling. The preparation of ethanol extract from kepok banana peel and avocado peel were using maceration method with 96 % of ethanol. The study was started by collecting samples, making the extract with 96% ethanol solvent, then continue with phytochemical testing, antioxidant activity testing of kepok banana peel extract and avocado peel extract with variation ratio (1:0), (1:1), (1:2), (2:1), (0:1). Further tests including cream formulation, cream stability test and in vitro SPF value determination was also conducted. The result of IC50 determination from : kepok banana peel extract is 122,77, belongs to medium category; avocado peel extract is 11,50, belongs to very strong category; (kepok banana peel extract : avocado peel extract) (1:1) is 39,88, belongs to very strong category; (kepok banana peel extract : avocado peel extract) (1:2) : 25,31, belongs to very strong category; (kepok banana peel extract : avocado peel extract) (2:1) : 76,77, belongs to the strong category. The result of SPF measurement from the single form kepok banana is 16,21, belongs to ultra category; single form avocado peel is 21,21, belongs to ultra category; (kepok banana peel extract : avocado peel extract) (1:1) is 21,32, belongs to ultra category; (kepok banana peel extract : avocado peel extract) (1:2) is 21,52 belongs to ultra category; (kepok banana peel extract : avocado peel extract) (2:1) is 21,51, belongs to ultra category. The antioxidant activity from the variation ratio of banana peel extract and avocado peel extract (1:2) is stronger than the single form of banana peel extract, but it is weaker than the single form of avocado peel extract. The combination of kepok banana peel extract and avocado peel extract (1:2) has better sunscreen capability than it’s single form
Beluntas (Pluchea indica (L.) Less) is a plant that is often used in traditional medicine because of the presence of several substances that have activity as antimicrobial compounds. Beluntas leaves contain secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, steroids, terpenoids and saponins which can function as antibacterial. This experimental research aimed at obtaining beluntas leaf extract gel and to determine the physical stability and the effectiveness of beluntas extract gel against Propionibacterium acnes. The first step is drying the beluntas leaves and and extracted by maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The extract obtained was then formulated into a gel and evaluated, the evaluation results show that formula 1 is the most stable. The results showed that beluntas leaf extract gel was effective in inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, the inhibition zone obtained was categorized as strong, where the average diameter before the accelerated stability test was 12.02 mm and 11.58 mm after the accelerated stability test
Jamu (Indonesian herbal medicine) are prohibited from containing chemicals medicine which are isolated or synthetic chemical compounds. Chemical compounds which is commonly added in jamu pegal linu (rheumatic pain) is phenylbutazone. One simple alternative test for detecting chemicals medicine content is to use a strip test. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of phenylbutazone content in jamu using a strip test. The research conducted is experimental research. This study used 6 samples of jamu pegal linu which were extracted using 95% ethanol solvent. The strip test is carried out by immobilizing reagents into Whatman’s filter paper using the impregnation method. Data obtained from observations of the color change of the strip test. The results showed that strip test made with alizarin red reagent and potassium hexacyanoferate (III) identified 2 samples of jamu pegal linu containing phenylbutazone, namely sample D and E, from 6 samples that circulated in Sungai Pinang District, Samarinda
Foot odor is a common body odor problem. The smell of feet makes oneself and people around uncomfortable, the smell of feet can be eliminated by washing the foot using soap, using a tabun powder. However, the foot wash using soap or powder is assessed less practical. Footsanitizer Spray is a new innovation of foot odor relievers that are practical and efficient use. Stirring process will affect product quality especially particle size distribution. So in this study aims to assess the effect of speed and time stirring of physical characteristics of the preparation of the foot sanitizer spray. In this research has been done variation of speed and stirring time, variation of stirring speed is done by varying the stirring speed at 300 rpm, 500 rpm and 700 rpm. Variation in stirring time is done by varying the stirring time for 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours. From the results of this research can be concluded that coffee beans extract and ginger rhizome can be used as a spray footsanitizer. And the greater the speed of the mixing form of the Footsanitizer spray the more cloudy and the viscosity value and type weight is getting bigger. The longer the stirring also leads to greater viscosity and density values.
