    KALIMAT PENGANDAIAN BAHASA JEPANG: KAJIAN SINTAKTIS DAN SEMANTIS

    Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan persamaan dan perbedaan bentuk-bentuk pengandaian dalam BJ dari segi sintaktis dan semantis yang dipusatkan pada anak kalimat (S1) dan induk kalimatnya (S2). Hasil analisa data diketahui bahwa keempat bentuk penganadaian BJ digunakan dalam variasi konstruksi yang sama, yaitu: (a) S1-KàS2-K; (b) S1-PàS2-K, (c) S1-KàS2-P, dan S1-PàS2-K. Persaman dan perbedaan lainnya adalah (1) V-TO dan V-BA digunakan untuk menyatakan pengandaian biasa; (2) V-TARA dan V-BA bisa diikuti oleh S2 yang menyatakan kejadian di masa lampau; (3) V-NARA dapat menyatakan bahwa S1 dan S2 terjadi secara bersamaan; (4) V-TARA, V-BA, dan V-TO menyatakan urutan kejadain S1 yang disusul oleh S2 (S1àS2); (5) V-TO menyatakan urutan S1àS2 tanpa ada jeda waktu atau perantara; (6) V-TARA dapat digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa S1 benar-benar telah terwujud; (7) V-TO tidak bisa diikuti S2 yang menyatakan perintah, permohonan, ajakan, maksud, keinginan, larangan, dan saran; dan (8) semua bentuk tersebut bisa diikuti S2 yang menyatakan kemungkinan, dugaan, atau pendapat peribadi penutur.Kata kunci: kalimat pengandaian, bentuk V-BA, bentuk V-TO, bentuk V-TARA, bentuk V-NARA Abstract This study tried to describe the similarities and the differences of Japanese conditional patterns from the perspectives of syntax and semantics. The results reveal that the four Japanese conditional patterns are used in similar variations and constructions, namely (a) S1-KàS2-K; (b) S1-PàS2-K, (c) S1-KàS2-P, and S1-PàS2-K. Other equations and differences expose several facts. (1) The patterns of V-TO and V-BA are used to declare a general conditional. (2) The patterns of V-TARA and V-BA can be followed by an S2 that states events in the past. (3) The pattern of V-NARA can express S1 and S2 events that occur simultaneously. (4) The patterns of V-TARA, V-BA, and V-TO state the order of events of S1 and S2 (S1àS2). (5) The pattern of V-TO declares a sequence of activities S1àS2 without any lag time. (6) The pattern of V-TARA can be used to declare an S1 that has actually happened. (7) The pattern of V-TO cannot be followed by S2 that state imperatives, requests, invitations, intention, desire, prohibition, and advice.     IDEOLOGI DALAM PENERJEMAHAN BUDAYA: ANALISIS PADA NOVEL TERJEMAHAN “NEGERI 5 MENARA” KARYA AHMAD FUADI

    AbstractThis research aims to describe  the translation procedures, methods, and ideology  applied to translate novel Negeri 5 Menara,and assess the impact of the ideology on equivalence. This research is using qualitative approach and content analysis. The source of data for this research consists of documents that  refer to novel  Negeri 5 Menara and its translation in English. The units of analysis of this  research data comprise of words, phrases, sentences, and dialogue taken from Negeri 5 Menara Ahmad Fuadi’s Work and its translation (The Land of 5 Towers) by Angie Kilbane. Findings of this research show followings. First, translation procedures were used 90 times  to render Negeri 5 Menara into English.  On the basis of the frequent use of each translation procedures, functional equivalent (20) appears to be first rank, followed by cultural equivalent (19), reduction and couplets (10), transference and naturalization (7), descriptive equivalent (6), notes (4), transposition (3), and  modulation and compensation (2). Second, theoretically, transference and naturalisation are oriented to source language while cultural equivalent, functional equivalent, descriptive equivalen, transposition, modulation, compensation, reduction, couplets, and notes are oriented to target language. This means that the translator tended to choose adaptation, free, idiomatic, and communicative methods. Third, the use of translation procedures and the selection the translation methods tend to be based on the adoption of the ideology of domestication. Fourth, in terms of the equivalence of the translations, it was found that 80 data were accurately translated and 10 data were inaccurately translated.     PEMAKAIAN BILINGUALISME DALAM INTERAKSI SISWA DI KELAS RENDAH DI MADRASAH IBTIDAIYAH NEGERI SINGARAJA BALI

       Abstrak Pemakaian Bilingualisme dalam Interaksi Siswa di Kelas Rendah di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri Singaraja Bali. Tulisan ini mengungkapkan realitas dari implikasi bilingualisme dalam pendidikan dasar. Konteksnya tidak hanya memperhatikan pembelajaran bahasa, tetapi terhadap pendidikan dalam arti luas. Hal ini karena bilingualisme memaksa para guru untuk mempertimbangkan pengajaran bahasa dalam pembelajaran di kelas. Umumnya, siswa dari Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri Singaraja Bali -Sekolah Dasar Islam- memiliki latar belakang bahasa Indonesia (L1). Bahasa Indonesia digunakan dengan berbagai dialek dan kosa kata bahasa Bali. Penggunaan bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa sehari-hari mereka disebabkan orang tua mereka berasal dari latar belakang lingkungan dan masyarakat multi-etnis. Orang tua mereka adalah generasi keempat dan kelima dari nenek moyang mereka, dan hampir tidak menggunakan bahasa asli mereka dalam ranah keluarga. Para keluarga migran ini sebagian besar adalah pedagang, buruh, dan beberapa dari mereka adalah PNS. Bahasa Bali, sebagai L2 diperoleh dalam lingkungan sosial terutama di sekolah menengah. Implikasi dari Bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa pengajaran lebih “mendidik-akomodatif”, disesuaikan dengan latar belakang bahasa siswa dan tingkat perkembangan bahasanya.Kata kunci: bilingualisme, implikasi, bahasa, pembelajaran     Abstract Bilingualism Implications in Primary Classroom Interactive Students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri Singaraja Bali. This paper reveals the reality of these implications. Its context does not concern only in the language learning, but into the education in broadest sense also. It is because bilingualism “force” teachers to consider language teaching in the classroom instruction. Generally, students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri Singaraja Bali-as an Islamic Primary School- have Indonesian language background (L1). Indonesian language used with various dialects of Balinese language and its vocabulary. The use of Indonesian as their everyday language is caused their parents from neighborhood background and the multi-ethnic milieu. Their parents are fourth and fifth generation of their forefather, and almost had not used their native language in family domain. The migrant families were mostly traders, laborers, and some of them are civil servants. Balinese language, as L2 acquired in social domain especially in secondary scholl. The implication of Indonesian as language teaching more “educative-accommodative”; adjusted by students’s language background and their level of language development.Keywords: bilingualism, implication, language, learning   

    VISI-VISI POSTMODERN DALAM KESUSASTRAAN JERMAN AWAL ABAD KE-20

    Abstrak Visi-Visi PostModern dalam Kesusastraan Jerman Awal Abad ke-20. Aliran pemikiran postmodern yang menyeruak di segala bidang kehidupan mulai dirasakan pada paruh kedua abad ke-20. Namun akar pemikiran tersebut sudah mulai tampak pada abad ke-19. Kritik terhadap pemikiran modern itu muncul dalam berbagai ekspresi masyarakat, seperti seni, arsitektur, dan sastra. Dalam kesusastraan Jerman pemikiran yang dapat dikategorikan sebagai visi postmodern dapat kita temukan dalam beberapa karya sastranya yang terbit pada awal abad ke-20. Tulisan ini membahas tentang visi-visi postmodern yang terdapat dalam novel Siddahartha karya Hermann Hesse yang ditulis pada tahun 1919. Pembahasan difokuskan kepada visi spiritualitas postmoden. Visi-visi spiritualitas tersebut muncul dalam gambaran tentang tokoh utamanya dan relasi antar tokoh serta latarnya. Spiritualitas yang bersifat internal, esensial, dan konstitutif serta spiritualitas yang bersifat organis hadir menjadi penawar permasalahan modernism pada masa karya tersebut ditulis.Kata kunci: Postmodern, Siddhartha, spiritualitas Abstract Postmodern Visions In German Literature In The Beginning Of 20th Century. The flow of postmodern thinking in all areas of life began to imerge in the second half of the 20th century However; the roots of these ideas already started to appear in the 19th century. Criticism towards modern thinking occured in various expressions of the society, such as art, architecture, and literature. In German literature, ideas that can be categorized as postmodern vision can be found in several literary works published in the early 20th century. This paper discusses the postmodern visions contained in the novel Siddhartha written by Hermann Hesse in 1919. The discussion in this paper focuses on the vision of postmodern spirituality. The spiritual visions appear in the description of the main character and intercharacter relationships, and background.     PEMEROLEHAN SINTAKSIS (B1) BAHASA “SASAK” PADA ANAK USIA 4-6 TAHUN DI LOMBOK TIMUR MELALUI PERMAINAN TRADISIONAL

    Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pemerolehan sintaksis (B1) bahasa “sasak” pada anak usia 4-6 tahun di Lombok Timur melalui permainan tradisional. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitin ini adalah klausa atau kalimat (B1). Sumber data diperoleh dari anak usia 4-6 tahun di Lombok Timur selaku penutur asli (B1) bahasa “sasak” di desa Kalijaga, Kecamatan Aikmel, Kabupaten Lombok Timur. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik simak dan rekam audio visual. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah mentranskrip data, penerjemahan, pengklasifikasian berdasarkan jenis klausa atau kalimat, dan penganalisisan. Hasil analsis data yang diperoleh adalah terdapat penggunaan kalimat tunggal, di antaranya (1) klausa berdasarkan kelengkapan unsur intinya, di dalamnya terdapat klausa lengkap dan klausa tidak lengkap; (2) klausa berdasarkan struktur internalnya, di dalamnya terdapat klausa berstruktur runtut dan klausa berstruktur inversi; dan (3) klausa berdasarkan unsur negasi pada predikat;. Selain itu, terdapat pula penggunakan kalimat majemuk koordinatif dan kalimat majemuk subordinatif.Kata kunci:  pemerolehan sintaksis B1, anak usia 4-6 tahun,  permainan tradisional       AbstractThe purpose of this study is to investigate the acquisition of syntax (B1) of children aged 4-6 years through traditional games. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The research data is a clause or sentence (B1). Sources of data obtained from children aged 4-6 years as native speakers (B1) of “Sasak” language in the village Kalidjaga, Aikmel sub-district, East-Lombok district. The data collection technique used is the listen and record technique using audio-visual equipment. Data analysis technique used was transcribing the data, translation, classification based on the type of clause or sentence, and analyzing. The results of the analysis of data obtained is a single sentence contained use, including: (1) clause based on the completeness of the point, in which there is a complete clause and the clause is not complete; (2) clause based on the internal structure, in which there is a coherent structured clause, and clause inversion structure; and (3) clause based on a predicate negation element ;.     PEMEROLEHAN FONOLOGI DAN METATESIS: STUDI KASUS PADA ANAK USIA 2 TAHUN 10 BULAN

    Abstract           This study aimed to describe the phonemes produced by children aged 2 years and 10 months and describes forms of exchange or metathesis sound that occurs in producing the sounds of language in words. The data collection technique use three stages of strategic sequence. These stages are (1) a method of providing data, (2) data analysis methods, and (3) methods of presenting the results of the analysis. Data in the form of speech is transcribed into a phonetic transcription. The findings of this research are: The respondent has been able to produce almost any sounds or phonemes that exist in Indonesian. Phonemes produced consisting of consonant phonemes that are already emerging that a total of 18 phonemes: / b /, / t∫ /, / d /, / g /, / d /, / dj /, / k /, / l /, / m /, / n /, / ŋ /, / ñ /, / p /, / r /, / s /, / t /, / w /, / y /. From the 18 consonant phonemes are emerging, 8 of them have variations, so that the number of phonemes is generated as a whole is 27 consonant phonemes. Respondents have been able to produce six vowel phonemes plus two variations so that all amount to 8 vowel phonemes. It was found five pieces of diphthongs are: / au /, / ai /, / ei /, / o /, and / ua /. In the span of less than one month found 19 words that contain elements of metathesis. From the 19 words, found 5 types or form of an exchange of sounds and sound accompaniment of addition and subtraction.           Keywords: language acquisition, phonology, metathesis, phonemes

    ENGLISH WRITING SKILL ANALYSIS OF FIRST YEAR INDONESIAN TERTIARY STUDENTS IN A UNIVERSITY IN BANDUNG

    Abstract This article reports a study on English writing skill of Indonesian tertiary students. The purpose of the study is to examine students’ initial ability in writing English compositions.  The subjects of the study are 22 university students in their first year at English Language and Literature study program at one university in Bandung. The data are taken from students’ descriptive essays written in the classroom. The texts are then analyzed based on writing rubrics developed by Lane and Lange (1999) to see the recurrent global and local errors, supported by analytic writing rubrics proposed by Jacobs et al. (1981) to see the students’ writing ability in general. The results of the study show that the recurrent errors made in twenty-two English descriptive essays are singular/plural nouns for local errors and sentence structure for global errors. In terms of analytic view, errors in language use are the most frequent errors made by the students. The findings provide useful information for constructing teaching materials for English writing in this study program.Keywords: writing skill, descriptive text, composition scoring technique, analytic scoring technique, global and local errors. Abstrak Artikel ini melaporkan hasil kajian mengenai keterampilan menulis bahasa Inggris mahasiswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memotret kemampuan awal menulis mahasiswa dalam bahasa Inggris. Adapun subjek penelitian adalah 22 orang mahasiswa tingkat I di Program Studi Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris, di sebuah universitas di Bandung  yang dipilih untuk mengetahui kemampuan awal mereka. Data diperoleh melalui karangan deskriptif yang ditulis di kelas.Teks dianalisis dengan menggunakan rubrik penilaian yang dikembangkan oleh Lane and Lange (1999) untuk tataran global dan lokal (global and local errors); dan rubrik penilaian analitik yang dikembangkan oleh Jacobs (1981) untuk melihat keterampilan menulis mahasiswa secara umum. Analisis data menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan yang paling banyak dilakukan mahasiswa pada tataran lokal terkait pemarka nomina tunggal dan jamak (singular/plural nouns), sedangkan pada tataran global, kesalahan pada struktur kalimat (sentence structure) merupakan kesalahan yang paling sering dilakukan oleh mahasiswa. Dari sisi analitik, kesalahan pada penggunaan bahasa merupakan kesalahan yang paling sering ditemukan dalam kebanyakan tulisan mahasiswa.Hasil temuan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan masukan bagi penyusunan bahan ajar matakuliah menulis di lingkungan program studi. Kata kunci: keterampilan menulis, teks deskriptif, teknik penilaian tulisan, teknik penilaian analitik, kesalahan global dan local

    WHY IS THERE CODE SWITCHING IN EFL CLASSROOM? : A CASE STUDY IN A VOCATIONAL SCHOOL IN CIMAHI WEST-JAVA

    AbstractCode switching is a common phenomenon that results from the bilingual quality of a language speaker. In the educational context, code switching is frequently found in an EFL classroom of which the teacher is a non-native speaker. It is considered as one of the strategies to facilitate students to learn English more effectively. However, a number of research studies investigating EFL classroom discourse found various reasons of the use of code switching, ranging from the familiarity of the context to the teacher’s language proficiency. The present research gears toward investigating code-switching practiced by an EFL teacher in Indonesia and the rationale behind that practice. Taking case study method, this qualitative study employs observation and semi-structured interview to gather the data. An English teacher in one vocational school in Indonesia was chosen to be the participant of the research. The research shows that, as a bilingual, the teacher practiced code-switching both in educational context and non-educational context, inter-sententially and intra-sententially. In the classroom context, inter-sentential code switching was practiced deliberately to serve as exposures for students. Meanwhile, intra-sentential code switching was oftentime not a deliberate action, but rather a force of habit of the English teacher as a bilingual.Keywords: Bilingualism, code-switching, EFL classroomAbstrakAlih kode merupakan fenomena umum yang dihasilkan dari kualitas bilingual dari penutur bahasa. Dalam konteks pendidikan, alih kode sering ditemukan di dalam kelas EFL dimana guru merupakan pembicara non-pribumi. Hal ini dianggap sebagai salah satu strategi untuk memfasilitasi siswa untuk belajar bahasa Inggris dengan lebih efektif. Namun, sejumlah penelitian yang menyelidiki EFL wacana kelas menemukan berbagai alasan dari penggunaan alih kode, mulai dari keakraban konteks untuk kemahiran berbahasa guru. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji alih kode yang dilakukan oleh seorang guru EFL di Indonesia dan alasan di balik praktek itu. Metode yang digunakan yaitu studi kasus, studi kualitatif dengan menggunakan observasi dan wawancara semi-terstruktur untuk memperoleh data. Seorang guru bahasa Inggris di salah satu sekolah kejuruan di Indonesia dipilih menjadi responden penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, sebagai bilingual, guru berlatih alih kode baik dalam konteks pendidikan dan konteks non-pendidikan, antar-kalimat dan intra-kalimat. Dalam konteks kelas, alih kode antar-kalimat sengaja dipraktekkan untuk pengenalan awal bagi siswa.     THE EFFECT OF WRITTEN CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK ON HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS’ WRITING ACCURACY

    AbstractWith the higher demand of accuracy on students’ writing in university level, the present study examines the effect of direct and indirect written corrective feedback (WCF) on students’ L2 writing accuracy. The study was conducted in a six-week period with 43 Indonesian university student participants majoring IT. The results of the pre- and post-writing tests showed that 1) the writing accuracy improvement of the students receiving direct WCF was statistically significant while the writing accuracy improvement of the students given the indirect WCF treatment was not; 2) the accuracy improvement in the untreatable error rate of the direct WCF group was the most significant compared to all types of error in both WFC student groups. The study concludes that considering the students’ current English proficiency level and learning setting with limited English exposure, written corrective feedback, especially the direct one, helps the university students improve their writing accuracy.Keywords: corrective feedback, L2 writing, higher educatio
