    PERTUMBUHAN TANAMAN GAHARU Aquilaria spp DENGAN PEMBERIAN MIKORIZA DAN MULSA PADA LAHAN TERBUKA DI TANAH ULTISOL

    Agarwood (Aquilaria spp) only can be grown under shade on the first phase of planting because this plant has silvic semi tolerance. This condition make agarwood difficult to grow under open field. Due to this condition, to grow in open field, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and mulching are needed. The research work aimed to find the effect of mycorrhizal fungi and mulching on agarwood growth in open field. The research work was conducted in experiment garden of Universitas Tanjungpura in Pak Laheng village, Toho district, Mempawah regency until the plant aged 8 weeks. The research work employed split plot design using a randomized block design. The treatment consisted of main factor with seedling without fungi (A1) and seedling with fungi (A2) and additional factor with plant without mulching (B1) and plant with mulching (B2). The research findings showed that in the age 8 weeks the mycorrhizal fungi only could fasten the growth of diameter and while mulching had effect on height, diameter and number of leaves.     Forest ecosystem and flora and fauna variety are a basic capital for national development which benefit for human’ s life in particular at Tembangan forest located in Mensiku Bersatu village of Binjai Hulu sub-district of Sintang.  Tembangan forest located in Mensiku Bersatu village of Binjai Hulu sub-district of Sintang has a lot of flora and fauna and one of its familiar animals is squirrel. For several reasons, squirrel conservation is considered as an unimportant action since this wild animal is often regarded as one of potential pests. In fact, squirrel has several significant roles in maintaining the sustainability of forest ecosystem since this animal can perform as a flora distributor or a insect controller that distribute seeds around Tembangan forest. The purpose of this study is to investigate the type of squirrel species at Tembangan forest located in Mensiku Bersatu village of Binjai Hulu sub-district of Sintang. The study result is expected to have significant contribution regarding the required data for management, protection, and conservation of Tembangan forest.  The setting of this study is in Tembangan forest located in Mensiku Bersatu village of Binjai Hulu sub-district of Sintang. Survey method and purposive sampling technique are applied in this study to identify the squirrel’s main territory around Tembangan forest. Based on the results of observation and identification, it can be concluded that Tembangan forest located in Mensiku Bersatu village of Binjai Hulu sub-district of Sintang has 5 species of squirrel specifically Spotted Squirrel (Tupaica picta), Slim Squirrel, (Tupaica gracilis), Small Squirrel (Tupaica minor), Javan Treeshrew Squirrel (Tupaica javanica),and Beautiful Squirrel (Tupaica splendidula). There are approximately 183 squirrels living in Tembangan forest and Spotted Squirrel (Tupaica picta) is the most common type of squirrel found in there and Tembangan forest has 82 spotted squirrel (Tupaica picta), 36 slim squirrels (Tupaica gracillis), 45 small squirrels (Tupaica minor), 13 Javan Treeshrew Squirrel (Tupaica javanica), and 7 beautiful squirrels (Tupaica splendidula).     At recent year, termite control strategies is still using of synthetic termiticide which is applied either by soil treatment, wood preservation or impregnation of the thermiside into the target. This control technique is very effective and beable to protect buildings and agricultural crops from termite attack, on the other hand, synthetic termite can pollute the environment and potentially poison to human. Therefore, it is necessary to develop termite control technology using baiting system, which is made from natural material as environmentally friendly. Eucalyptus leaves are potentially used as attractants for termite control by bait method. The test was conducted in two methods: no-choice test and two-choice test, using 5 treatment composition, eucalyptus leaves: official waste paper, 80%: 20%, 60%: 40, 40% : 60%, 80% : 20%, and 0% : 100% as control. The results showed that the mixing of eucalyptus leaf (Melaleuca leucadendra) and official waste paper at composition of 60%: 40% was effective as bioatractant to termites (Coptotermes sp).     SUKSESI VEGETASI PADA LAHAN BEKAS PENAMBANGAN EMAS RAKYAT DI KECAMATAN MONTERADO KABUPATEN BENGKAYANG

    This study aims to obtain information about the succession levels of natural vegetation on ex – community gold mining in Monterado. The method of this research was survey method through vegetation analysis by double plot size 20 m x 20 m. Placement of plots dileberately based on the tailing period of ex – community gold mining which were : 10 years. The result showed that kinds of shrub found in all age level of ex – community gold mining area. The type of woody plants at the seedling found in all period of ex – community gold mining area, whereas sapling, pole and tree only found in ex – community gold mining at age level > 10 years. Based on the vegetation analysis, it showed that Ischaemum rugosum and Melastoma malabathricum L. dominanted at all age level of ex – community gold mining. Seedling in the ex – community gold mining at all age level were dominanted by Dillenia suffruticus. The index of species diversity showed that it was still low on ex – community gold mining in Monterado.Until the age of tailing > 10 years, succession was still in the level of competition, so it was concluded to be slow. To accelerate succession, revegetation, land restoration, and people awareness should be undertaken.Keyword : Gold mining, Monterado Sub district, Succession

    KEANEKARAGAMAN HERPETOFAUNA DI KAWASAN TAMBLING WILDLIFE NATURE CONSERVATION (TWNC) TAMAN NASIONAL BUKIT BARISAN SELATAN (TNBBS) PESISIR BARAT LAMPUNG

    Data was collected using VES (Visual Encounter Survey) methods in which we observed and recorded any species that had been seen. Methods VES (Visual Encounter Survey) was combined with transect sampling. We surveyed two transects, one located in aquatic and one in terrestrial habitats. This study aims to calculate the species diversity, species richness, relative abundance, and evenness index for this population. We found 22 species of amphibians and reptiles. This total contains 11 species (Frog and Toad) of Order Anura included in the families Bufonidae (3 genus), Dicroglossidae (1 species), Ranidae (4 genus), Rhacophoridae (1 genus), and Microhylidae (2 genus); and 11 species of  Order Squamata included in the family Agamidae (2 genus), Gekkonidae (3 genus), Scincidae (2 genus), Varanidae (1 genus), and Colubridae (4 genus). We calculated that for this community, the diversity index was 1.04, the evenness index was 0.77, the richness index was 4.03, the abundance index was 0.044, the results and dominance index was 4.03, and the total number of individuals encountered was 183.Keywords: Amphibians and reptiles, Diversity, Visual Encounter Survey

    Porpoises or freshwater dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris), of Delphinidae family and is a kind of marine mammals. Porpoises are one of oceanic dolphins biota but this group can live in the sea, brackish or fresh water. This species distributed in the shallow waters of tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific from northern Australia waters, Papua New Guniea, to the Bengal Bay, especially in Brahmaputra and Ganges of India River waters, mekong in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, the Mahakam River in East Kalimantan and Ayeyarwady river in Myanmar. This study is aimed to determine the distribution of the dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris) in the waters kubu raya district and waterways Kayong utara districts. This study uses survey / observation method, population observation method using cruising with a ship. The survey results were the discovery of the dolphins numbered 13 tails and are in three different groups. The first group was found in simpang lidah area. Kubu Raya district 9 tails, the second group was found in Paket 3 (Batu Ping). Kayong Utara District 2 tails and a third group in bumbun estuaries. Kubu Raya District 2 tails.     ANALISA BIAYA DAN PENDAPATAN INDUSTRI PENGOLAHAN KAYU DI KABUPATEN KUBU RAYA

    Wood furniture industry is one of the wood industries in the district of Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan Province. The industry has long existed and has to compete with other local furniture industry. The objectives of this study is to investigate the cost of each manufacture unit and actual income of each production type, analyze the economic income, indentify the amount of production break-even point and  break event point of each production unit since West Kalimantan forests have sufficient raw material of wood for furniture production. The average cost of door production is 293.111 rupiah per unit,the average cost of window production is 141.045 ruiah per unit and the average production cost of sills is 134.053 rupiah, actual profit of door production is 41.731 rupiah per unit, actual profit of window production is 49.536 per unit and actual income of sills production amounted to 105.947 per unit, break even point rupiah for door production amounted to 334.828 rupiah, break even point rupiah of window amounted to 190.581 rupiah and break even point rupiah of sills amounted to 240.000. The  findings indicate that the furniture industry is the industry that is highly helpful in increasing the incomes of enterpreneurs. Therefore, many people are interested. Community needs in the use of furniture production is increasing and the limited availability of raw materials make the selling price to be expensive. Accordingly for the furniture enterpreneurs should have sufficient supplies of raw materials in the warehouse.     The tesso nilo national park (TNNP) is a nature conservation area located in Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province with an area of ±83,068 hectares. The TNNP is administratively located in two districts of Pelalawan and Indragiri Hulu in Riau Province. This region has the type of lowland tropical rain forest, with a height of 50-175 m above sea level with flat to hilly topography. This research aims to identify the food source availability for sumatran elephants ( Elephas maximus sumatranus). This research was conducted at the Air Hitam Resort In Tesso Nilo National Park, Pelalawan Regency of Riau Province which was held from 27 April to June 20, 2016. The locations of the study were divided into three habitat types, namely: open habitat and swamps, shrub and natural forest. The amount of food for elephants found at the Air Hitam Resort TNNP is composed of 39 species of the open habitat and 7 species of the swamp, shrub habitat 9 species and 22 species of natural forest habitat. The overall support capacity of elephant food at the Air Hitam Resort TNNP with an area of 11,252 ha is 39,472.61 individuals/day and can accommodate as many as 798 elephants. The number of elephants found in the research sites was as many as 25-30 individuals (seen from the groups of elephants spread across the research sites).     ASOSIASI DAN POLA DISTRIBUSI TENGKAWANG (Shorea spp) PADA HUTAN TEMBAWANG DESA NANGA YEN KECAMATAN HULU GURUNG KABUPATEN KAPUAS HULU

    This study aimsed to examine the association of Tengkawang (Shorea spp) with other species that dominate in Tembawang forest and examine the pattern of distribution / spread of Tengkawang in Tembawang forest of Nanga Yen Village, Hulu Gurung District, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan Province. Observations were made on five transects lines with lengths of 20 x 500 m respectively. The research found 65 species of tree and found three types of Tengkawang i.e. Shorea stenoptera, Shorea marcophylla, and Shorea mecistopteryx. The dominance trees were Durio zibethinus,  Dipterocarpus sp, Litsea firma, Dilleniaindica, and Eugenia spp with index important value (INP) ≥  15%. The tree which often encountered simultaneously in tembawang forest of Nanga Yen village were Shorea stenoptera with Durio zibethinus, Dipterocarpus sp, and Dilleniaindica; and between Shorea marcophylla with Dipterocarpus sp; with high association criteria on value 0.74. ~ 0.49. The distribution pattern of Tengkawang (Shorea spp) were uniformly spread on class of pole, sapling and seedling with I value was I 1.Keywords: association, distribution pattern, Kapuas Hulu, Shorea spp, Tembawang

    Dragonflies are spread throughout the world; the number is very abundant, especially in a wide variety of habitats. This study aims to determine the type of dragonfly in the area of ​​Sylva UNTAN Arboretum Forest City, Forest City Hall of Governors, the football field UNTAN Jogging Track and Field UNTAN as part of a green open space in the city of Pontianak. The second objective was to determine the existence of the diversity of the types of dragonflies in the area of ​​green open space, as well as to determine the species diversity index, the percentage of relative abundance, evenness index and species richness index. The study was conducted in April-May 2016, with the methods time search. Results of the study found 12 species of dragonflies. 8 species belonging to the suborder Anisoptera Libellulidae families and 4 types belong to the suborder Zygoptera which includes family Coenagrionidae and Platycnemididae.
