Diversity Of Meranti Species (Shorea spp.) In The IUPHHK-HTI Area PT. Bhatara Alam Lestari Mempawah Regency West Kalimantan. Meranti is a commercial tree species, meranti timber market is not limited only to domestic market but also international market, although meranti has become important commodity of forest product, but until now its production still relies on natural forest. The purpose of this research is to know the diversity of meranti species. The object of the study was the type of meranti (Shorea spp.) and the type of vegetation found in the observation plot. This research was conducted at IUPHHK-HTI area of PT. Bhatara Alam Lestari. Determination of plot and line of meranti species diversity in the field was using mixed method. The results showed that there are 4 types of meranti namely meranti batu, meranti bunga, meranti seraya and meranti sibo. The dominance index (C) at the growth rate of seedlings, saplings and trees has a low average value of less than 0.5, so it can be said that the spread of vegetation species is not concentrated in one particular species but spreads in all species. Result of Species Diversity (H) Compiler shows more than 1 (H 1 <H <3) value for all levels of vegetation growth means that species diversity (H) less than 1 (one) means species diversity in low or non-diverse transects. Result of Abundance (e) vegetation in general that Abundance of all growth rates of seedlings, saplings, poles and trees show the value (e) less than 1 means that all species are unequal abundance at each growth rate within a forest area. Keywords: Abundance, Diversity, Meranti

Orangutans are the great apes that is only living in the continent of Asia. They consist of  3 species, namely Pongo pygmaeus, P. abelii, P. tapanuliensis. This has prompted much research to study about Pongo spp.  However, the aim of this research is to study the daily behavior of the Borneo orangutan (P. pygmaeus) after released into its natural habitat. This research was conducted in The Protected Forest of Tarak Mountain, Subdistric of Nanga Tayap, Ketapang, West Kalimantan. The observation was done at 05.00 – 06.00 am until 16.00 – 17.00 pm, for 7 days. The results showed that the dominant activity of orangutan were eating and defecation in the morning, and nesting, moving and resting in the afternoon.  Orangutan are groom when they are feeding or resting.  Based on that, there was difference of orangutan behavior between after released in the nature habitat with orangutan behavior is rehabilited.  This become important information about orangutan as the early efforts to conserve this species exspecially orangutan after released into nature forest. Keywords: Bornean Orangutans, Daily Behavior, Focal Animal Sampling, Protected forest of Mt Tara

The Population of Hawksbill Sea turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) is still declining even though their status as a protected animal and a rare marine resource, Human activities in hunting both the Hawksbill Sea turtles and their eggs have caused severe declines in populations, beside that the damage of their habitat and nest caused due to changing of landscape. The propose of this research is to get the nest characteristic data of Hawksbill Sea turtle at Tanjung Puting National Park, Management National Park II - Kuala Pembuang, Sungai Perlu Resort, Central Kalimantan, with research time in the field for about a month and research method purposive sampling, based on turtle’s nest habitat. The requiring data on this research are physical data (the nest beach) and biological data the nest beach characteristic (the long, slope, and width of coastal, the temperature and size of sand, and the closest coastal vegetation to the nest). The results of this research are made as narrative, diagram and image. The location of this research is east coastal (around Sungai Ranggau, Sungai Leger, Sungai Batang Behalang Kecil) with 7 km of width, the width of beach supratidal on nest between 2.5 to 39.4 m, the coastal slope 3.0o - 7.5o, the amount average of temperature 28.80˚C, the dampness 84.53%, subtract texture occurred in Nest 1 is 64.7% on shaker level smooth type. The dominant coastal vegetation is australian pain tree (Casuarina equisetifolia), the easiest discovered predators are monitor lyzard (Varanus salvator), White-bellied sea eagle (Haliaeetus lecogaster, Haliastus indus), and ghost crab (Ocypode cursor).Keyword: Eretmochelys imbricata, Hawksbill Sea turtle, Kuala Pembuang - National Park II-TNTP, Nest

The puposes of this research is to examine the diversity of fruit-producing trees that can be consumed. The object of this research are all fruit-producing trees in the plot or observation path, which is the limitation is the fruits that can be consumed by human. This research have been done at IUPHHK-HTI PT. Bhatara Alam Lestari. The printed path has been used to determine the plots and observation paths of fruit-producing trees diversity that can be consumed on the ground. The result of the research found that there are 12 kinds of tree producers offorest fruit consumption, they are asam-asam, cempedak hutan, durian hutan, jungkang, kandis, kelampai, keranji, medang asam, nyatoh/sangai, petai hutan, rambutan hutan, ubah. The value of the dominant index (C) at the research area is quite poor, because the value of the dominant index from all the lane is not reached the highest index value of dominance yet (C-1). This indicates that the community not found one or two tree producing fruit consumption who dominated on a community forest secondary , while index value diversity its kind low because less than the value 1 , this showed that on a community many those kinds of composing under each organizations research is low. To value index provided the global financing of other firms ahmad abundance of offerings shared with or far higher than those, because the pattern of spreading on this community can be equally on each its kind.Keyword: Diversity, tree producing fruit, secondary fores

The determination of the conversion rate (1.04) for certain types of wood still contains weaknesses, this is caused by bontos diverse forms. Where the measurement results will be very different for logs that have bontos cylindrical shape with a cylindrical timber that is not or has buttresses. It is necessary for research that aims to determine how much the conversion rate measurement volume of logs in the water compared to the measurement volume of logs on land for Meranti (Shorea spp). Logs were observed and measured the average diameter of at least / lowest is 60 cm by 50 stems. Implementation of measurement include: measuring the length of logs on land and in water, measuring the diameter of logs on land and in water as well as the determination of the volume of logs on land and in water. From the results of statistical analysis using the t test in one direction, the result is greater than the figure of 2.17 t tables for 5% significance level = 1.67 and smaller for a very real level of 1% is 2.40, which means that Ho is rejected on the the real rate of 5%, which means that the diameter measurements on land and in water / river for Meranti (Shorea spp) influence the treatment of the measurement method because it produces a real difference.Keyword : Conversion Rate, Grading, Log, Shorea sp
