    Skrining Plasma Nutfah Jagung terhadap Kekeringan

    Most corn planted in marginal upland area which often experience drought. Early maturing and drought tolerant corn is needed for such environment. The objective of the experiment was to select genotype tolerant to drought. Experiment was conducted in Jakenan, Pati, Central Java during the dry season of year 2000. Split plot design was used, main plats consist of plant with drought and without drought strees. Subplots consist of 64 corn accessoris. Result of the experiment showed that based leaf rolling score (1.0), silk delay (1-3days), drought index greater than sensitive control (lkene 8149), 6 accessious were selected to be drought tolerant. Under drought condition, the 6 accessious yielded between 0.606 - 1.325 ton/ha and drought index between 0.73 - 0.92. Tolerant control (Wisanggeni) yielded 1.204 ton/ha and drought index 0.98 while sensitive control only 0.369 ton/ha. Days to harvest of the six accessious were between 71 - 85 days while the two control was 90 days.   Key words: Screening, Drought, Germ plasm, Maiz

    The problems of monotoon swamps are acid soil and macro nutrient deficient, especially P and K. To solve the problems, it can be used the tolerant and adapted varieties at monotoon swamp. Fourteen genotypes from CIMMYT (Mexico), two national varieties and two local varieties as check varieties were tested in randomized block design with three replication in dry season of 2000 at Sungai Kupang village, Hu/u Sungai Selatan district. The result of experiment indicated that two genotypes have highest yield; i.e. Cotaxtla S 9649 and Synthetic NVE - SR (TIWD). And then. there were four genotypes have lower yield than Cotaxtla S 9649 and Synthetic NVE - SR (TIWD). Yield of the other genotypes were not significantly different with local variety.     The objective of research was to know effective concentration of surfactant and kind of herbicide. Research was conducted at young rubber plantation of PTPN VIII, Sukabumi, West Java. Factorial experiment was arranged in Randomized Block Design with three replication. The first factor was kind of herbicide, glyphosate 2.5 l/ha, sulphosat 1 .5 l/ha and paraquat 2 l/ha. The second factor was surfactant concentration of 0 %, 0.1 % and 0.2 %. Glyphosate that was mixed with 0.2 % of surfactant controlled weed at young rubber plantation effectively. It was showed by low persentage of weed covering. Paraquat without surfactant controlled Borreria alata, and Commelina benghalensis.     The objective of this research was to determine the effect of prestorage infiltration of CaCl2, infiltration of spermidine, plastic wrapping and waxing on the maintenance of banana shelflife and qualities at different storage temperatures. Prestorage infiltration of Cavendish banana (Musa Cavendishii) with CaCl2 inhibited fruit softening, the increase of sugar content in peel color index. Plastic wrapping could inhibit the increase of weight loss, pulp peel ratio, peel color index, and the decrease of appearance score. Treatment of fruit with spermidine infiltration store in cool temperature could maintain banana shelflife until 27.8 days or 8.1 days longer than control

    Intercropping of maize, rice, and cassava is commonly practice by subsistent farmer on rainfed agriculture in Indonesia. In general grain yield of rice in intercropping is lower than monoculture sole crop. This due to the fact that rice varieties planted in intercropping was bred and selected under elite, monoculture crop environment. Field experiments to evaluate grain yield relative stability of the three selected rice breeding materials planted in association with maize and cassava were carried out in Pekalongan (Lampung), December 1994 - September 1995. Tb153e-Tb-1 and Tb47h-Mr-17 are relatively stable in respect to grain yield. Individual mass selection in these two population will be practiced in association with maize and cassava

    Efek Aplikasi Synechococcus sp. pada Daun dan Pupuk NPK terhadap Parameter Agronomis Kedelai

    Synechococcus sp. is a species photosynthetic bacterium that has symbiotic mutualism with plant.  Research on this field is not many. Foliar application of this bacterium may increase the growth and yield characteristics.  The aim of this research was to determine the effect of Synechococcus sp. application and NPK fertilizer on soybean growth and yield.  The research was conducted in Pusat Inkubator Agribisnis (PIA) Jember University on February until May 2004.  Split plot design was used with 2 factors, Synechococcus sp. as sub plot (B0: without bacteria and B1: with bacteria application) and NPK fertilizers as main plot (P0: 0 g/plant; P1: 0.347 g/plant; and P2: 0.875 g/plant) with three replications. The result showed that the interaction between Synechococcus sp. and NPK fertilizers treatments was not significant.  The  bacteria applications significantly increasing plants growth (42.9%), leaf area index (294.6%), number of productive stem per plant (141.3%), number of productive nodes per plant (40.3%), pods weight per plant (175.2%), number of pods per plant (152.8%), grain weight per plant (80.5%), dry weight (209.8%), and 100 grains weight per plant (3.4%).  The fertilizers significantly affected only on plants growth (44.6%) and number of pods per plant (29.4 %).    Key words:  Glycine, Synechococcus sp., NPK

    Kandungan Beberapa Zat Endogen pada Buah Retensi dan Buah akan Rontok pada Mangga

    The aim of this research was to study the relationship between fruit drop  and contents of auxin, polyamines, ACC, total sugar, and starch. Cultivars of mango used were Gadung 21 and Lalijiwo.The persisting fruit and abscising fruits were used to quantify auxin, polyamine, ACC, total sugar, and starch.  The content of polyamine and ACC was determined on pericarp, auxin on seed, whereas the content of starch and total sugar was determined on mesocarp. The result of research showed that fruit drop was preceded by low content of auxin that increased the sensitivity of abscission zone to ethylene.  The increased sensitivity of abscission zone to ethylene was supported by low content of polyamine and  high content of ACC.     The experiment was conducted at Leuwikopo Lath House and Seed Science and Technology Laboratory Department of Agronomy, Bogor Agricultural University, Darmaga, Bogor, from March to June 2004. The objective of this research was to study the effects of germination substrate and pre germination treatment on the noni seed viability in relation to the seed dormancy. The research was arranged in the Randomized Complete Block Design with two factors. The first factor was germination substrates, consisted of sand, paddy charcoal and soil mixed with compost (1:1). The second factor was pre germination treatments, consisted of control, scarification, KNO3 1%, KNO3 2%, warm water (470C), combination of scarification and KNO3 1%, combination of scarification and KNO3 2%, combination of scarification and warm water (470C). This result showed that soil mixed with compost (1:1) was the best substrate for noni seed germination. Pre germination treatments as well as interaction between germination substrate and pre germination treatment had no significant effect on noni seed viability.     Analisis Pencapaian Produktivitas Pemetikan Pucuk Sebagai Dampak Agrowisata Di Kebun Teh Gunung Mas, Bogor

    The objective of the research was to study the impact of agro-tourism on production of tea bud. The experiment was conducted at Gunung Mas Tea Plantation, Bogor, from June 2004 to March 2005. Blocks 3, 5, 8, 10 and 17 at Gunung Mas I afdeling represented area with agro-tourism activity and blocks 3, 7, and 10 at South Cikopo I afdeling represented area without agro-tourism activity. Site selection was based on plant variety, age of cutting, tea walk track (0, 4, 6, and 10 km), and elevation height (800, 900, and 1000 m above sea level). The result shows that agro-tourism activity decreases production of tea bud. When the number of visitors increased, production of tea bud decreased because the pluckers were absent during the plucking time. The positive impacts of agro-tourism are improvement in plantation management, especially in productive plants, and existing additional income. Gunung Mas Tea Plantation especially Gunung Mas I afdeling which runs agro-tourism should limit the number of visitors and there must be a cross subsidy from agro-tourism to agro-industry sectors.   Key words :  Agro-tourism, productivity of tea shoots, afdeling, plucking

    Pertumbuhan Bibit Tanaman Manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) Setelah Inokulasi dengan Berbagai Galur Agrobacterium rhizogenes1

    Growth of mangosteen essentially depends on its root system.  Therefore, it needs technology to obtain stringer mangosteen root system.  The use of Agrobacterium rhizogenes bacterium is an alternative.  The objectives of this experiment were : 1) to find the effective strain of A. rhizogenes bacterium for inoculation of mangosteen seedling root, 2) to find the best inoculation method for inducing mangosteen seedling root.  The materials used in this experiment were ; mangosteen fruit and A. rhizogenes collection from Puslit Biotechnology LIPI Cibinong-Bogor.  The experiment was arranged in completely randomized design with two factorial treatments.  The first factor : 11 strains A. rhizogenes (ATCC-15834, ATCC-8196, R-1000, 07-20001, A4, A4-J, 509, 510, 511, MAFF 01-1724, and control), the second factor : 2 inoculation methods (cutting and dipping).  The results showed that A. rhizogenes  of ATCC-15834, 509, 07-20001, A4, and R-1000 increased stem diameter, plant height, leaf number, lateral and tertiary root number, better than ATCC-8196, MAFF 01-1724, 510, 511, A4-J, and control.  Cutting root method of inoculation resulted in higher live plant percentage compared to dipping root method.   Key words :  Agrobacterium rhizogenes, Garcinia mangostana, inoculatio
