Perubahan Komposisi Gulma pada Sistem Tumpangsari Padi Gogo dengan Kedelai di Lahan Pasir Pantai
Weeds can reduce upland rice yields in coastal sandy area. Density and growth of weeds can be controlled and reduced by an intercropping system between upland rice with soybeans. The study aimed to determine the weeds composition change and weeds biomass in various crop proportions of upland rice and soybean under intercropping. The research was conducted from December 2016 until March 2017, at coastal sandy soil of Samas, Bantul, Yogyakarta (8°00’03.5”S and 110°15’20.1”E). This study used a complete randomized block design (RCBD) with one factor and three replications. The treatments were crop proportions of upland rice and soybean under intercropping with 6 levels, such as 100:0 (upland rice monoculture), 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80, and 0: 100 (soybean monoculture). The results showed that there was weeds composition changes due to setting crop proportions of upland rice and soybean under intercropping at coastal sandy soil. Weed of sedges, grass, and broadleaf were found throughout the experimental plots, but varied in number and type of weeds among experimental plots. Weeds condition differed among the soybean proportion treatments < 40% and ≥ 40%. The average community coefficient value was <75% which was dominated by Digitaria nuda and Eragrostis tenella under soybean proportion treatments < 40%, and Ludwigia parviflora and Amaranthus lividus under soybean proportion treatments ≥ 40%. The linear model was established between the increase of soybean proportion to a decrease in dry weight of weeds as Y = -0.6624X + 67.699; R2 = 0.7224).Keywords: crops proportion, intercropping, weeds communit
Morphological Variation in Arabica Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) Growing in North Sumatra Indonesia
Genetic variation is important in plant breeding. However, information on the genetic variability of Arabica coffee especially in coffee field of North Sumatra was not yet available. Magnitude of morphological variation, genotypic variation, phenotypic variation, heritability, genetic advance, genetic correlation, and phenotypic correlation of plant vigors and yield components of 28 genotypes were evaluated using nested design. This research showed morphological and genetic variations of the genotypes in the field. Based on the research locations as operational taxonomic unit, the genotypes were separated into three clusters. Most of the parameters had low to moderate genotypic variation, while phenotypic variation was moderate to high. Heritability and genetic advance were low, moderate, and high. Several plant vigors and yield components had a positive significant genetic and phenotypic correlation one another, and several had negative ones. Coffee berry borer infestation (CBBI) had a highly significant negative genetic correlation with leaf width (rG = -0.309**), leaf weight (rG = -0.671**), fruit diameter (rG = -0.320**), and bean length (rG = -0.175**). CBBI showed a significant positive genetic correlation with mesocarp pH (rG = 0.134*). To reduce CBBI, selection for higher leaf weight is better. Selection on lower pH of mesocarp could be considered to decrease CBBI.Keywords: cluster analysis, genetic correlation, genetic heritability, variabilit
Pemberian Pupuk Silika Cair untuk Meningkatkan Pertumbuhan, Hasil, dan Toleransi Kekeringan Padi Sawah
As one of the silica (Si) accumulator, rice (Oryza sativa L.) requires large amounts of silica for growth. This study aimed to determine the effect of liquid silica fertilizer application on lowland rice growth and yield, and its roles in drought stress responses. The experiments were conducted at Sawah Baru rice field and Cikabayan Greenhouse Experiment Station, IPB, Bogor during the period of January to May 2016. The field experiment was set up in a randomized complete block design with 7 treatments and three replications. The greenhouses experiment was arranged in a split-plot randomized block design with 3 replications. The main plots were 5 levels of liquid silica fertilizer application, while the subplot was 5 level of various soil water contents. The results of the field experiment showed that the application of liquid silica fertilizer increased rice shoot dry weight, total and productive tiller numbers, and yield per plant, but did not increase yield per hectare. Meanwhile at greenhouse experiment, it showed that the use of liquid silica fertilizer reduced the number of rice stomata, but did not increase cuticle thickness and grain yield per plant. Silica application was not effective to alter drought in rice
Aplikasi Dua Paket Pupuk Majemuk pada Tanaman Tebu Ratoon yang Ditanam dengan Juring Tunggal dan Ganda
Area of ratoon cane (RC) in Indonesia is more than 75% of total area of cane with productivity lower than plant cane (PC). To improve the productivity proper fertilizer application is required in accordance with the planting system used. This study was aimed to acquire a package of NPK compound fertilizer efficient for several planting systems of ratoon cane. The experiment was conducted in Muktiharjo Research Station, Pati in October 2013-September 2014. Two packages of compound fertilizer, i.e. 15N:15P:15K:10S formula package (500 kg compound fertilizer + 600 kg ZA ha-1) and 16N:8P:18K:2S:2Si formula package (500 kg compound fertilizer + 100 kg ZA ha-1) were arranged in randomized block design with four replications. Both packages were applied to two single row planting systems and two double row planting systems. The results showed that in single row planting system with both center - to - center (ctc) distances, i.e. 130 and 110 cm, the application of 16N:8P:18K:2S:2Si formula package resulted productivity, sugar content, and sugar yield that are no different from those with 15N:15P:15K:10S formula package. However, in double row planting systems with ctc 50/170 cm, 16N:8P:18K:2S:2Si formula package increased 9.20% sugar yield. The profit from 16N:8P:18K:2S:2Si formula package (12.07 million-14.23 million rupiah ha-1) in single row planting systems were lower than that of 15N:15P:15K:10S formula package (13.15 million-15.15 million rupiah ha-1). However in double row planting systems with ctc 50/170 cm, 16N:8P:18K:2S:2Si formula package produces profits (39.92 million rupiah ha-1) higher than with 15N:15P:15K:10S formula package (28.49 million rupiah ha-1).Keywords: planting-system, productivity, sugar-content, sugar-yiel
Pertumbuhan dan Hasil Kedelai di Lahan Rawa Lebak dengan Aplikasi Pupuk Hayati dan Kimia
Soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill) demand is high in Indonesia, however national production is low, therefore improving productivity is important. The research was aimed to determine the effect of application of biofertilizer containing N- fixing and P- solubilizing bacteria on the growth and production of soybean in lowland swamp. The experiment was conducted at Labuhan Ratu VI Village, District of Labuhan Ratu, East Lampung Regency from September to December 2014. The experiment was arranged in factorial randomized block design with three replications. N and P fertilizers were applied in four levels. Doses of N were 0, 11.25, 22.50, 33.75 kg ha-1, doses of P were 0, 36, 72, 108 P2O5 kg ha-1, in combination with and without biofertilizer application. The results showed that interaction between biofertilizer and N significantly affected number of branches and number of leaves at maximum vegetative phase. The influence of three types of fertilizer had no significant effect on the productivity of soybean in lowland swamp with soil pH of 7.0 and medium soil fertility. It is recommended to apply Biofertilizer + 11,25 kg N ha-1 + 36 kg P2O5 ha-1 to obtain high soybean production in lowland swamp area. Keywords: nitrogen, phosphate, productivity, soil fertilit

Sugar cane is a strategic commodity for the Indonesian government as raw material for the national sugar industry. Cultivation of sugar cane has been shifted to dry areas dominated by Inceptisol, Vertisol, and Ultisol soil. These conditions require certain clones to obtain high sugar yield. New improved varieties have been developed and 8 early-mid maturiting clones have been obtained. The study was aimed to evaluate and obtain earty-mid maturing clones with higher sugar yield than the existing varieties in dry land of Inceptisol soil. The study was conducted at the Karangploso Experimental Station, Malang from July 2015 to September 2016. The study was arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. The treatment consistsed of eight clones of early to mid maturing sugarcane clones and one control variety (Kenthung). The eight clones were (1) PS 04 117, (2) PS 04 259, (3) PS 04 129, (4) PS 05 258, (5) PS 06 391, (6) PS 06 370, (7) PS 06 188, and (8) JR 01. The results showed that three clones (PS 06 188, PS 05 258 and JR 01) produced higher sugar yield (10.45-11.88 ton ha-1), and the other clones showewd lower sugar yield (6.55-9.37 ton ha-1) than that of Kenthung variety (9.16 ton ha-1).PS 06 188 and PS 05 258 clones obtained the highest sugar yield of 11.88 and 11.49 ton ha-1, respectively
Analisis Genetik Arsitektur Malai Padi Menggunakan Dua Populasi F2
Improvement of rice panicle architecture is one important objective in the development of improved new-plant-type rice varieties. Panicle architecture is directly related to yield components in rice. The aims of this study were to obtain information on inheritance pattern of panicle architecture on F2 generation and to obtain the best selected individuals. The experiment was conducted at Sawah Baru Experimental Farm Bogor, from May to October 2016. Two F2 populations derived from crosses of IPB 3S/IPB160-F-36, IPB160-F-36/IPB 5R and three genotypes of parents were used as experimental materials. A total of 208 and 204 plant samples were taken representing each of the two F2 populations and 20 plants representing the parents. Three panicles were taken randomly from each individual as observed samples. The results showed that additive gene action influenced number of primary branches in population of IPB 3S/IPB160-F-36, whereas in the population of IPB160-F-36/IPB 5R, most of the panicle architecture traits were controlled by additive gene action except for the length of primary branches. All of panicle architecture traits were controlled by relatively many genes except length of primary branches and number of grains on primary branches in the IPB 3S/IPB160-F-36 population. The panicle architecture of the two observed population was genetically varies. The heritability estimates were moderate to high. Selection could increase the mean of panicle architecture traits using either single or multiple traits simultaneously. Keywords: gene action, heritability, genetic variability, panicle trait
